  • So yes we drive the all-new BMW 128ti!
    Yes, yes we all now know this 128ti is front-wheel-drive!.... surly it can't be great as BMW's are renowned for being RWD but lets see what we think.
    The car has some great performance, it's 2-litre turbo charged engine helps the 128ti put out 265hp and 400Nm of torque! with a 0- 60mph time of just 6.1 seconds!
    Nothing ground-breaking I know, but with a price tag of around £32,000, the 128ti is direct rival for the lower price hot hatches out there as the Golf GTI and Octavia vRS!
    Is it a hit or a miss, watch on to find out.

    Great review Alex. I got a red 128ti in June and love it. Fast when I want it to be, relaxing when in traffic. Managed 47mpg average on a trip from Cheshire to Aberdeen in August. And the quality of the interior is absolutely every bit as good as you say. Feels special every time I get in it.

      The more reviews I see on this car the more convinced i am to order one. What's it like on rough roads, potholes etc??

    • @johnfranklin6394
      @johnfranklin6394 Před 2 lety +2

      @@mariosneocleous1418 Hi Marios. The ride is firm but sophisticated. By that I mean that you will feel bumps in the road, but it doesn’t crash over potholes. My previous car was a mk 7.5 Golf GTI Performance. It had a slightly softer ride, but crashed over potholes noisily.
      The ride improves with speed, smoothing rough roads out pretty well.
      So, of course it’s not the most comfortable of cars. There is a compromise on ride quality for the sake of handling. It corners much flatter than my old Golf for example.
      I believe there are harder riding hot hatches out there, as well as smoother riding ones.
      Ideally it would be available with adaptive dampers like the M135i. Sadly it’s not. But, I can certainly live with the 128ti’s ride. It’s a great car.

      Thanks Mike I really appreciate the kind words.
      I knew being a BMW it would drive great but I have to say even then I was still surprised as it was better than I expected it to be being as it should be a warmish hot hatch but it still felt all the bit spicy enough to be a full blooded hot hatch! Love it.
      What colour and spec did you go for? Where are you based also?

      @@PeakPerformanceReviews I went for black and ditched the red accents down the sides and vents - more low key, and black leather interior. Keeping the 18in wheels and have requested the Michelin tyres instead of Bridgestones which I gather is a no cost option. I have a BMW 125 which is a nice car, rear wheel drive of course, so interested to see the difference.

    • @PeakPerformanceReviews
      @PeakPerformanceReviews  Před 2 lety +1

      @@miked3807 awesome sounds like the right way to go, I thought I would worry about the difference of how it would feel vs the RWD platform equivalents but I was thankful it has lost little to nothing in dynamics and feel.
      I think the chassis on these feel tighter and they roll less (body roll in corners) also.

    • @johnfranklin6394
      @johnfranklin6394 Před 2 lety

      @@miked3807 Hi Mike. I have a Melbourne red 128ti, also ditched the side decals. I specified the performance tyres, expecting Michelin PS4s. Sadly, I got Pirelli P Zeros. My dealer contacted BMW UK and they explained that the performance tyre option covers a range of brands. So, while many reviews say you get Michelin PS4's, there is no guarantee you will get this in reality. Sorry if this is a bit disappointing, you may well be lucky and get the PS4's. I am now doing my best to burn through my Pirellis so I can get some Michelins. I took out a maintenance package, so the faster I shred them the more value I get from my monthly payments :-).

    Nice review. Out of interest how quick is the steering on this? Had both a 7 and 7.5 GTi which both had the progressive steering, and I'm temporarily in a new A3 which doesn't, and its like driving a bloody bus, feels like an extra turn lock to lock. Awful, and no feel. Is the 128ti quick to turn in? Cheers, Nik

    • @PeakPerformanceReviews
      @PeakPerformanceReviews  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks fella really appreciate the kind words. I don’t directly know the steering rack ratio so I can only go from feel and it’s brilliant, decently weighted and turns in quick, well and had nice feedback.

      From what I’ve heard the 128ti ride is a bit firm (when you aren’t hooning) as well. Mind you the infotainment on the Cupra seems naff and I don’t like the idea of people saying “oh you got a Seat” (maybe I’m being a snob there 😂).

    • @johnfranklin6394
      @johnfranklin6394 Před 2 lety

      @@alexmaple4 the ride is indeed firm. I have the 128ti, it replaced a mk 7.5 GTI Performance DSG also on passive suspension. It is definitely firmer than the Golf. I am getting used to it, and it settles a higher speeds. It's just the potholed Cheshire roads that show it up a bit.
