I do not agree, if they close then the gap should not widen, let's say Gti struggle with launch then when it gained traction it should not allow gap to widen...I bet the 128 packs more power as known BMW notorious for underrating their cars

The distance covered is proportional to the speed. Let‘s pretend that when the BMW reached 100 km/h , the GTI was around 90 km/h,when the BMW reached 150, the GTI had 143 etc. So the gap will only become closer the moment the GTI is at a higher speed than the BMW. Considering that the distance between both remains approx the same, and the GTI even seems to get closer, it is very probable that at a certain moment the GTI has a higher speed than the BMW.a rolling race would be very interesting, I even think the GTI could be a bit faster

I have got a GTI 7.5 I bought brand new just over 18 months ago but I’m not a fanboy and I’ve just ordered a 128ti that I’ll be picking up in October but I’m not a fanboy of that either. You can buy specific models made by various car brands without being a fanboy of them you know, just putting it out there.

It's not entirely surprising - lot of people calling foul, but ignoring the fact that BMW claims 0-60 in 6.1, but almost every reviewer has easily gone sub 6 seconds, even in wet conditions... wouldn't be surprised if this engine was actually 280-290bhp at full chat.
The secret is super unleaded apparently. BMW told me not to use it, as it was pointless. After 2 tanks the car was night and day different. Feels closer to 300 bhp.
I’ve just traded my mk8 Golf GTi for the 128ti and I can tell you the BMW has WAY more power than the VW. There is so much more torque on tap and it handles far better too, the GTi was a great car but the BMW is superior in every way
The 128ti is a serious piece of kit. I don't know about other areas, but I don't think the 128ti sells that well, because I have only ever seen one on the roads. The Golf GTI on the other hand is as common as air. I'm surprised BMW can't shift these as normally if you put a BMW badge on a wheelbarrow, people will buy it. I suppose the iconic nature of the Golf GTI is too much to overcome.
This is why I ditched VW GTI's (after having 5) the quality dropped due to cost cutting measures and it is clear it has a poor gearbox. It does not sound that nice either. Worse news is that the Golf costs more.
The DSG is quite good on the MK 8, the shifts are very fast. Everyone’s talking about cost cutting measures, yes, they used a bit more hard plastic in the interior (nevertheless you feel good inside and the materials feel much more premium than they may appear) and they dropped the GTI Logo on the seats and on the engine, but they developped a whole new vehicle dynamics manager, did improvements on the chassis and I‘m pretty sure they had to investigate a lot in the engine in order to deliver at least as much power as in the MK7.5 due to stupid regulations, I don‘t know what would cost more? And I don‘t know where you are from, but in my country the 128ti is about 5k more than the GTI. I configured both and at the end the BMW costed 50k Euro, the GTI 43.
@@dill8498 In the UK the BMW is £33,870 and the GOLF GTI DSG is £35,010. So for one of the top markets for hot hatches the Golf is too expensive. I admit the first one I had MK1 5 speed was really good but the brakes were bordering on dangerous. A GTI 16V mk2 was brilliant after they changed half the engine for oil leaks. The two Mark 3's I had were slow and awful build quality, hence why I went elsewhere

Anybody who has owned a Golf will tell you otherwise ....and as for poor gearbox, Golf 7 Gti and R gearboxes can handle over 1000hp stock standard. I am in a VW Golf R club group and I am yet to hear of anyone complain about VW Golf Gearboxes. The only common issue with VW Golf is water pump leaks and Turbo issues in the early 2014-15 Mk7 R....either than that Golf's are practically bullet proof

I blame the lack of traction in this drag race on the tires. VW puts shit tires on these cars from factory. Id like to see another run with grippier tires... but in the end it doesn't matter to me because I don't plan to buy either one lol.

That means the producer gives shlt about their buyers and it deserves to loose. But I'm sure that all car makers use the best tyres possible on their performance cars
Not really hey. Some manufacturers use tyres with more durability, less road noise and varying thread. Tyres make a huge difference in performance and so comparing on standard tyres on each car could distort results by as much as 3+ seconds.

No car reviewer will ever switch tyres on the car(a performance car should have the (one of)best tyre for the job) 2. My mk7.5 GTI came with Bridgestone Potenzas from the factory. Awful tires that always spun up and tramped like mad. Swapped them for Michelin Primacy (not even Pilot Sport) and the car was transformed. God knows why VW insist on spoiling the GTI with such bad tires. Must be cost. I have a 128ti on order and specced the no-cost optional Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires. Not having Bridgestones on any car again.
I think, Clubsport is more expensive than 128Ti. Question is, which one is more tunable, normal GTI or 128Ti. Clubsport is different league, with its engine on stage 1 it could have 450 HP.

I'm still thinking that gti is much better on track because an XDS diff with VDM that 128ti's LSD torsen diff. Because not all in life must be linear and flat!!! Sometimes must have some curves, slopes and downs.
Problem with this is newer VWs are so electronically limited from the factory its not even funny. Ever since the MK7 came out, factory spec disables left ignition when the brake is pressed, no ignition with the e-brake up, to try and reduce wheel spin, the electronically assisted differential hits the spinning wheels with ABS braking. Every single one of these issues can be easily removed with an ECU/TCU Flash and some with VAGCOM/OBDeleven. I was not a bit fan of my MK7 GTI. I traded it in for a MK7.5 Alltrack, put a JB4 on it, DSG Tune, and adjusted some settings in the VAGCOM system. The car is as fast as a factory Golf R with nearly no modifications on it aside from a piggyback tuner. If you ever want to truly fall in love with modern VWs, start with software changes.
But the M135i is a better car. Speed is NOT everything my friend. There are more aspects to judging a car. It seems that you just another sad and jealous VW fan boy who can't stand the fact that there ARE better cars in the world. 🤣🤣🤣🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹
Yeah BMW has 265hp and 400NM whilst the golf has 242HP and 380NM. But they are competitors so it's a fair race. I am interested in what tires they both had on. It is expected for the BMW to win because it was made to beat the GOLF they made sure to have better benchmarks.

Drove one yesterday in sports mode yeah although it's said to only be 250 hp I wouldn't be surprised if it was more then that
