    Why do they keep pushing VAR "getting more right than it gets wrong"? If I did 100 tasks at work, got 51 right and 49 wrong, I'd be sacked. Getting more right than wrong is not a measure of success.

      Well it is actually a measure of success. Those numbers you’ve chosen are quite poor. If you do 3 tasks and get 2 right and 1 wrong what happens there? If a team gets to 92 finals and wins 50 and loses 42, that suggests to me that they’re still a hell of a team and have loads of success in that competition. You can’t just choose numbers to suit your opinion on it. I’ve only done it to counter your argument

    • @grassfret
      @grassfret Pƙed rokem

      @@shauncrossey8184 I've not chosen numbers to suit any argument, but to simply say VAR has been a success because it gets more right than wrong is ridiculous. The minimum to get more right than wrong would be 51%, which I'm pretty sure everyone would agree would be a terrible record. If they were saying "VAR gets X number more decisions correct than no VAR" then that would be a valid defence, but they're not.

The spectacle of football is worse because of the ridiculous forensic analysis on offsides and /or the VAR room chiming in on incidents in an inconsistent manner. Originally I wanted VAR to remove goal/no goal like Lampard for England or the Spurs goal against MUFC. Every single time football is slowed down it heads towards American football which for me is not why I watch it. For the record I also agree with Simon that VAR gets more right than wrong. The Premier League half-arsed the implementation of VAR from the get go. When VAR debuted at a World Cup, the biggest stage in football, it went off almost without a hitch. One of the defining things about the implementation by FIFA was in allowing the on-field ref to go and take a look at the screen and decide for himself, much like TMO in Rugby will ask the on-field ref to take a look at something. What the Premier League did in the beginning was to limit the opportunity of the ref to take a look on the screen which did more to undermine the refs. Aside from offside which is an objective issue, everything other decision should reside solely with the on-field ref. VAR should not be making decisions, only advising the ref to take another look. And for God's sake mic them up so we can hear what they're saying and how they justify and reason their decisions.

    • @benmackay3573
      @benmackay3573 Pƙed rokem

      The main issue is that in rugby the on field referee doesn't get told to look at the screen, he will request what he wants to see in collaboration with the tmo BUT THE ON FIELD REF IS IN CHARGE. The tmo can't undermine him. Then there's also the fact they show it on the screen for the entire stadium as opposed to just the viewers at home. Them nobody is left out.

      If a goal is not ruled out for being "millimetres offside" Paulo, then how far offside must a player be before he is offside? It must be the same for every match, every team, every player. Therefore the line has to be drawn somewhere which means wherever it is drawn "millimetres" over that line will be enough to be offside.

    • @paulonvula6495
      @paulonvula6495 Pƙed rokem +1

      @@markchapman2933 Just the fact that the conceding team don't even complain the legitimacy of the goal says it all. It's true that offside is offside, but the forensic analysis in every goal scored is ridiculous, if that's the case then they should also have to look at every session of the play for a possible offside offense, not only when a goal is scored. It's not good for football when you see referees doing their best just to disallow a goal, they are looking for every tiny details just to rule it out and it's ruining the game. The technology was never about the toe, shoulder, armpit, forehead inches offsides; it was for the "clear and obvious" errors, meaning, the blatant errors that somehow the referees didn't spot or ruled very incorrectly which these offside calls are not. For there to be an offside both feet/heels of the attacking player has to be completely forward in relation to last defending player, the way it is now it's creating lazy defending and inhibiting the whole process and art of attacking. As if it's not already too difficult teams will now have to find for even more creative ways to score a goal just to ensure it doesn't go the surgery room (VAR) to see if it lives or dies

Scrap the offside scrutiny of an armpit or hair offside give the advantage back to the attacker make the criteria be if its a whole foot in front of the defender or the full shoulder or a part of the chest then call offside otherwise advantage to the attacker for his momentum stuff like that then it will be quicker to make decisions. Realise that, on principle, you're not asking for a different metric or larger margin of error, you're literally advocating for subjectively granted benefit of the doubt on a systemic level; for something like offside that's fundamentally black or white, that just doesn't make sense.

    Bang out of order on Danny Murphy! Jim and Simon ganged up on him and even cherry picked their arguments! Had that tape on the ready to play! Danny was caught in the headlights! They also do this to Martin Keown

    I say you double the linesman on the side of the field and allow more open communication between the refs and the linesman like in rugby. In rugby the linesman has a chance to state what they’ve seen and then from that the ref can make the final call. You double the linesman so each linesman gets a quarter of a field. Makes it easier to manage aswell
