it depends on how you think fo Spurs. Most of us fans who support proper titans of the English game see Spurs in the same category as Everton. They're a big club but not on the same level as Chelsea, United, Liverpool, Arsenal and even City now. If you think Spurs are a huge club then I'd imagine you would be disappointed with Levy, yes he's balanced the books and allowed Spurs to continue growing but he's never shown much ambition for titles. If you think Spurs are on the level of Everton and Leicester (they've won less than both in the premier league era) like I do, then Levy has done an excellent job of keeping spurs in and around the big boys consistently

    • @GEricG
      @GEricG Před rokem +1

@@benedictharrison2819 I'm sure that he's ambitious for the title and I do think that the season when Harry Redknapp was going for the title, there should have been a better investment in the January window. The season when Leicester won the title was also disappointing but Leicester were ruthlessly efficient with their system. Arsenal had Wenger and the foundations for his reign were in place before Levy took over. City and Chelsea, Spurs can't compete with that but in fairness, with the money coming into the club now from the stadium, there is less excuse not to invest properly. Levy has stood back from signings so I can't really see where Souness is coming from.

  • @davidplayle5674

As a Spurs fan myself, I think Tottenham have struggled in recent years simply down to one man Daniel Levy. Every club we have faced in recent years like Chelsea and Liverpool and Manchester City in Final’s have had quality on and off the pitch. They have had really good managers in the past..Martin Jol, Harry Redknapp, and Poch. They couldn’t win anything and that’s really saying that something isn’t working at the club and i blame the Hierarchy. I honestly think that if we get rich owners like Man City have things will change.

    • @kmdreacts

That's the thing, a lot if our Spurs fans think the club/chairman/owner isn't rich..
They bought the club for less than 25m, it's now worth 2.3b, making Spurs the 9th richest club in world football... Go figure.
Dark Lord Levy just doesn't want to spend to win the big trophies because that means sustaining/maintaining and supplementing it with cash flow, yet, he doesn't seem to grasp the fact that success only brings more money and more success.
Hell, the fanbase even treat top 4 like a trophy now, the same way Levy does.
But let's be honest, are we in it to compete or just participate and pray for luck?

I now read the 29 year old Atalanta midfielder we passed for about £20M, is the one we are back in for in January... He has future with us at 29, has no pace, plays in Italy and you want him to make a impact and hit the ground running... Gamble and cheap option.

Simon Jordan , when did Levy give Conte £200 mil ?? Do you know something we don't ?? And FYI Spurs have won 6 FA cups in 60 years , 8 in total actually held the record for a while , first team to achieve the double , they've also won 1 cup winners cup ( first British team to win a trophy in Europe ) 4 LC , and 2 EUFA cups ( only English team to achieve that ) during that period . Does that qualify them as a big club ?? I would argue that it was the over prudent tenure of your buddy Daniel Levy that has held the club back for the last 2 decades , that allowed other clubs to overtake THFC , in trophy winning terms , petro dollar clubs like Chelsea , City and now Newcastle , to add to the perrenial giants United , Liverpool and Arsenal .

I think Souness is just writing the column for the pay cheque and its not a particularly well informed opinion.
The director of football, Fabio Paratici, is managing the transfers. Conte and Levy are essentially advising him and/or setting targets. That's why he's going out and buying a mix of Conte style transfers with more experienced players for results now and also going to the market for younger prospects which would both fit Conte's system and align with Levy's transfer policy.
People give spurs and Levy a hard time, but realistically we've been competing with teams at the peak of their powers and it's not strange that we've only won a single trophy in that 21 year period. Simon is talking absolute sense!
To win anything in the 2000s they had to beat Arsenal, Man U and Chelsea at their peaks. In the 2010s City used the unfathomable wealth of their owners to hit their peak and then Liverpool became a massive force as well. Up until after the Bale/Modric transfers to Madrid and Kane arrived, Spurs also had their best players taken from them whenever anyone stood out as well.
It's not at all surprising that only a few other clubs have managed to get a trophy or two in those eras. If anything it's surprising that Spurs' trophy came in 2008, rather than 2015-2017 when we really hit a peak and other teams were in slight transitional phases.
Conte has already shown he can over achieve with Tottenham. The club has already backed him and are desperate to keep him. Maybe some fans aren't enjoying the football right now, but most understand that until we get players with more ability in certain positions we will rely on being organised to get some results.

1 trophy in 21 years isn’t good enough
I will give ENIC & Levy credit for what they’ve done.
They’ve turned us from a league cup team to a proper European power house. The stadium is a game changer along with how big the club is now around the world.
We will never be able to compete with Man City, Chelsea, Man Utd or even Newcastle but the stadium allows us to invest and spend.
Levy said the stadium will allow us to spend more and we backed Conte this summer
Biggest mistake Levy & ENIC made was not investing in the squad under Poch.
Poch punched well above his weight and turned us into an absolute rampant team, we played brilliant football and had such a young squad.
ENIC & Levy know they have to spend now otherwise Conte will walk. He’ll stay, he isn’t the type of manager to say he’s happy then suddenly back out.
Conte is constantly saying we need time and patience and 2-3 windows.
That clearly hints to ENIC & Levy spending money and backing him
Once the stadium naming rights deal goes through that’ll be even more money to spend

I would have loved to have won more but the growth and improvement i've seen in my lfetime has only be upwards across those 21 years - we've been run really well. All of Poch's work built the foundations for the stadium rebuild which I think was a really clever investment that will pay off over the long term. I believe Conte will build a good team over the next 2-3 windows so we get closer to the state-funded clubs.

The fundamental issue with Spur's transfer policy is Levy. That's not for a lack of investment, it comes down to the fact that Levy has too much control of who we buy and how we buy. Djed Spence being a great example of a player that Conté never asked for but Levy tries to drive this philosophy of youth that has never worked out. How many young kids have we bought, that have shown massive potential, and what do we do? We condemn them to the training ground and when their form withers to the size of a dried grape, Levy sells them!
The mismanagement of players at Spurs is fundamentally why we struggled to compete and evolve.
Our only success in the transfer window has been from buying ready-made players not nurturing talent.
Chelsea, City, United, Liverpool, all have incredible youth development, incredible academies. That's why their successful.

People forget just where Spurs were when Sugar and then Levy took over. Spurs were a Premier League club within hours of bankruptcy - that's 1 thing when you're competing in the lower leagues and even then isa hard enough to come back from. Sugar, and particularly Levy, helped stabilise the club, balance the books so that Spurs simply continued to exist, let alone win trophies, and then slowly but surely pushed us back up the Premier League. They may not have won silverware but nobody can argue Spurs have not just improved steadily under Levy's stewardship but improved with consistency. 20 years ago, when Levy arrived, a good season at Spurs was to finish around 10th and a bad season would have been relegation. Nowadays Spurs aren't even close to 10th - I think a bad season is 7th, a terrible season is like 8th. I don't think people really remember just how unachievable that would've felt for Spurs 20 years ago. Spurs first ever qualification for the Champion's League came in 2010 and, since then, they've qualified another SIX times. I just do not understand the Levy criticism. He's not on the pitch. His job is to provide a stability and Spurs are one of the most stable clubs off the pitch - even when they have a wobble they're not dropping down the league. However, that last little push to get over the line for silverware SURELY comes from thew management and the actual players. Levy has brought 1 of the best managers in the world to the club - still people whinge. He went out and spent early this summer, a proper decent wedge too, and at the time everyone was cooing about Spurs. It hasn't quite clicked yet ... let's all blame Levy. What?
