  • With Nintendo completely shutting down the 3DS and Wii U, it looks like a strange situation has popped up around purchased DLC. EA revived Dead Space with a remake last year, but it looks like things aren't going how fans were hoping.

Who is even paying for EA Play? Most of their library is old Madden and FIFA games that Gamestop won't even bother trying to resell, and the big sell for it is being able to play games that you're purchasing separately a few days early. Some people shouldn't be allowed to use money.

I pay for it indirectly. I have gamepass ultimate which includes ea play. So although I don't really use the ea app I'm included in their numbers I would imagine. And I'm guessing I'm in the same boat with a few million people lol. But it does actually have a few other good games. Pretty much the whole need for speed franchise, The dead space series, dragon age, both the Sims and simcity games. And for people who like it the sports games. Other stuff too. So I could see why others might want it. For me it's just a bonus with the gamepass subscription.

Shutting down servers in fifteen years, you estimate? That's at least reasonable. I got WWE2K20 to be able to play as the Fiend Bray Wyatt as that's one of the couple games he was in. I purchased the physical game in late 2023. Three years after game release. They have already shut down the servers for this, denying me access to the part of the game you have to play to unlock said Fiend Bray. So even with my physical copy, only three years into existing, I don't have the full game. Ridiculous.

If it was Steam shutting down for good or something like that, then fine, that's your CURRENT game library, I can understand that. But the 3Ds and the WiiU? Isn't that pushing it a little too far? Nothing lasts forever. And it's not something exclusive to digital stuff. I have physical copies of PC games that don't work anymore because I guess the file system of newer operating systems can't read those files or something like that. There's no point in me complaining about that. If I want to play one of those games so bad I can always emulate or find a tutorial on youtube or something. My benchmark for an open-world game is: Can you swim and explore underwater? Additionally, the underwater setpieces should enhance gameplay. I understand that Star Wars isn't widely recognized for its underwater adventures, but ever since the underwater sections in The Phantom Menace, there's no excuse. Once again, what's the definition of an open world? I've been eagerly awaiting a genuine single-player open-world Star Wars game for so long!

It's kind of a shame that we don't get a series of Prince of Persia games.
The Switch... If it can do native 1080p and locked 60 fps with its games I think it'll be enough. Trying to brute force it and hardware modding it to do 4K is a bit much.
Of course EA would raise its prices. Honestly who actually pays for these kind of subscription service? Just buy the select few games that interest you. It's better to actually own your games instead of having yet another streaming service with tons of games; most of which you realistically won't play.
That sucks that 3DS Smash Bros DLC is no longer downloadable. Nintendo should have a better service to handle stuff like this.
If this is what happened with the 3DS version, the Wii U version probably will be impacted like this.
Nintendo really has a crappy policy with preservation. Relying on severs is not the best.
For the 3DS version, it wouldn't be so bad if they _at least_ re-released a 'definitive' version with all the DLC included in the cartridge.
But really, Nintendo just assumed that most people would've just moved on to the Switch version and not cared about previous gen versions.
I _really_ hope that this isn't true about the Dead Space series.
They least they should've done is a remake for Dead Space 2 and Dead Space 3.
Even if they skip Dead Space Extraction and Dead Space Ignition, if they can remake 2 and 3 most fans would be happy.

The fact of the matter is when it comes to EA/Dead Space 2. Remake.
If in fact Motive was only in the very early pre-conception phase, and also considering the fact that their Iron Man game was announced not to long after they began work on Dead Space Remake, than it makes sense to pause work on Dead Space 2 Remake in order to focus on finishing up Iron Man.
Everyone is claiming that the remake flopped. Yet from what I've heard/read was that EA was said to have been happy with the remake's performance.
Time will tell of course if this tends to be the case, but don't forget like 2 weeks or so after the remake launched, EA sent out surveys asking if fans would like to see remakes of Dead Space 2 and 3....
Also, considering how many times Jeff Grubb has stated/hammered home the fact that the KOTOR remake was cancelled and due to the recent quote from Saber's CEO makes that statement null and void. Everything he says should be taken with a HUGE ass grain of salt.

I'm excited for Star Wars Outlaws. I'm buying the physical stranded ps5 version in August. The trailer looked awesome, and besides the three day thing and the different pricings, I don't understand the weird hate.

Don't forget you can't install the game without internet connection for the DRM. Meaning the disc is completely useless. If ubisoft decide to not support the game anymore ( like the crew) you can't even install the game. It pretty much like those download code in the box release. Do not support this company

"What would sell more; a new Deadspace, or, Iron Man?"
I hate that the answer to this question is always some kind of overproduced Marvel/Disney property.
We need fresh IPs, new experiences, and originality. I am exhausted of these overshadowing properties from monstrously bloated organizations being the safe bet because out of control publisher/developer budgets demand a predictable ROI - and what franchises have more historical sales data on them than something like a Disney property?
New ideas need a chance and the stranglehold Disney and other established properties have on massively talented gaming studios right now is downright sad. Incredible talent being shoehorned into yearly releases of Assassins Creed, Call of Duty, and Madden, or, being cornered into it financially because the market is so thirsty for the same-same bullsh!t that studios like Respawn Entertainment and Insomniac abandon their own fresh IPs in favor of Star Wars or Spiderman... it's so depressing to me. If I were working there, I'd probably quit if I went from making Titanfall to being a Disney b!tchboi working on yet another Star Wars.
I don't mean to speak for the developers themselves since I'm sure they're happy to take the paycheck, have the security in this turbulent industry that a monster like Disney can provide, and many are probably fans of these franchises... but as a gamer I am so tired of seeing the same brands shoved in my face when we could be getting some fresh new take on Titanfall, or, a new Infamous... I mean it's thanks to Infamous and Sunset Overdrive that Insomniacs Spiderman games are so good - they've decades of experience with that open world traversal and flashy third-person combat. Seems like a waste to sell out all that talent to a company like Disney if you ask me.
I hope one day companies like Respawn Entertainment, Insomniac, and Infinity Ward get the freedom they deserve to express their creative talents without the need for shackling themselves to a mega-corp what's milking their utters with calloused hands and slapping their own label on the sweet gaming juice that squirts out.
Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
