Sometimes I think Ubisoft is actively encouraging their customers to buy their games six months after release for a third of the price…
true, $130. plenty of stuff to play, i'll wait for $20 bargain bin
No joke ubisoft games are fantastic for $20
I wait until they're given away for free... on GOG, that is. Ubisoft launcher is straight-up garbage.
Yeah, I got the 120 bucks AC odyssey ultimate edition for 15 bucks on sale. Same with most of the AC games on steam.
Yet they will make the bulk of their money on launch
"Ubisoft" and "new game" don't mesh well in a sentence.
Why? They released 14 games since 2023.
Since Star Wars is an Ubisoft game, I am pretty sure people can wait a few months and get it for 50% off or something.
$30 on Black Friday.
The best choice with a game like SW Outlaws is to not buy it at all. If we are being pressured into bad decisions as consumers with the garbage option #1 or garbage option #2 in terms of always online type of situations, then we HAVE to vote with our wallet. We can say “that’s probably not gonna happen” or whatever but it sure as heck won’t if we don’t speak clearly on our game ownership.
“Vote with our wallet” is such a cringe way of protest. I am debt free because of my equities portfolios into the varying corporations which includes the most controversial ones in gaming like Tencent, Activision, Take Two, Ubisoft… that is even before accounting for my other strong tech positions in Apple, Nintendo, Sony, Tesla and Nvidia- who are without controversy from time to time.
Contrary to what you may believe, consumers just don’t care. If you protest and don’t buy, some other loser will come along and buy and continue to support the so called “anti consumer practices”.
Just look at Pokemon Sword and Shield and Scarlet and Violet. Did all the faux outrage prevent the games from selling? Combined, both these sets of games sold 50+ million copies. All the boycotting. What did that achieve? 🤣😂

12:36 More like in 10 years, Ubisoft simply decides to take down the server to download Outlaws and says "Thank you for supporting our product" then the game is permanently killed like The Crew
UBI has to release SW: Outlaws in August so it can be heavily discounted by Black Friday. Probably $40.

The 3DS and Wii U going offline should really show that online only will never work in the long run

@@joshbimthedoctor FFVII rebirth was a 70 dollar release despite including two discs though
They will just release digital only at that point.
@@gsleo2396 Except they werent forced to do that, they made the choice to. Plus even if every game going forward on a console did have a physical release, that doesnt technically ensure that you would still be able to continue to play them.
I wonder if companys are purposely not putting full games on disc to prevent second hand sales at a later date.
Im sure that is one of the main reasons. You should be able to sell a game you paid for though!!
I have to imagine the main reason is they can save costs by using fewer/lower-capacity discs or possibly just spend less time and money optimizing their games. Cutting out the secondhand market is probably a distant second goal because while great games usually get remakes and remasters down the road, the majority of games will not see that treatment and so they don't get a second chance to pump money out of consumers once the servers shut off.
I doubt that. By the time the ability to download patches is taken away-I imagine not a lot are gonna want to buy the game again. Even ps3 still lets you download patches for disc games. Still sucks though, releasing a game not all in the disc. At that point you should just release it digitally. Oh well, another game to skip
Back when the Xbox One was revealed, the reason why Microsoft wanted to tie each disc to a specific console was to prevent second hand sales, and publishers were completely behind that idea. Of course, once Microsoft got a ton of backlash for wanting to do that, they did a 180 and removed that feature before launch. Now, you see Microsoft pushing for all-digital, getting rid of physical games as fast they possibly can, and yes, publishers want to move to digital-only as well. Like you said, it's about stopping second hand sales. Every time GameStop makes a second hand sale, the publisher doesn't make a sale.
We dont need 100 hour games where 80 hours are side quests and completing checklists
Correct. This is why Cyberpunk was/is so good asides from the exceptional Bioshock/Ken Levine type narrative. It doesn’t overstay its welcome.
The base game (story) can be completed in 20 hours, but if you go for the 100% (full trophies & achievements) it takes an additional 50-60.

Jon, honest to god, when you started talking about the Ubisoft outlaws release with multiple versions and having to have online to download a single player game, I realized I’m done with new triple a games on Xbox and PlayStation. I’m canceling my game pass and abandon getting new games for it. I have video game fatigue with the Xbox and PlayStation. I’m not giving up on Nintendo or switch yet but I’m close. I might just focus on retro consoles and games. New consoles and games suck sooo much compared to just a few generations ago.

Star Wars Wokelaws. The actress it's beautiful, the main character is the dbz fusion with Han Solo... the "make hot women ugly" button with turbo mode on
Serious question, how much money snd time do you think gets spent on making these actresses ugly? I'm seriously wondering how much time and labor it would save to either just not do it or cut the bs and start hiring actresses exclusively from Portland
One of the reasons we have such beloved retro games is because they had to get creative within the constraints of the hardware. I imagine we could get there again, just with budget constraints rather than hardware constraints.
Star Wars outlaws looks like it’s basically just a replay of the Han Solo story but with a woman as the main character
I just want to understand. Studios are complaining that game are too expensive to make. Players are complaining games are too long to makes for the unfinished product they get, but Microsoft are still focus on pushing boundaries nobody asked for?
Guess no one ever understands each other
Good thing I'm becoming a indie game developer.
This is why there's a concept called "I want shorter games with worse graphics made by people who are paid more to work less and I’m not kidding".
AAA game budgets have really gone out of control.
"nobody asked for this" is always a bankrupt critique. Much of the best loved media and hardware is something that came from left field. If you ask for it, then it's not going to be innovative or interesting. You can have innovation that doesn't work and then people will levy this claim, but you can also have something like Nintendo DS that literally nobody was asking for, but blew all of our minds.
you have to also remember that they are talking about next generation hardware to release years down the road. If it doesn't push boundaries then customers will just keep their current Xboxen.
@@DeathScyther006 It's Microsoft, they kept telling us that the series X was the most powerful hardware ever, but struggled to give us next-gen experience. I have no faith in them. I agree with your point, but not with Microsoft.

Great consistency with uploads. Just be careful about your editorializing. One example here was your "all-digital" future verbiage. Felt a little too onbrand for msft.
Also, you eventually said there needs to be a balance with budgets but I can more likely imagine you saying "hey, maybe we'll be seeing more of these AA style games on subscription services like Gamepass day one" than "these AAA big budget tentpole experiences are invaluable for bringing people in to the ecosystems like we've seen with PlayStation"

Ubisoft: really sticking to the "get used to not owning your games". Its such a set up since they see the lower sales for the physical and they will say "see no one buys the physical so lets do away with it" instead of "wow no one is buying the physical maybe we should have kept the basic functions of a physical game". Theyre creating the excuse to remove pro consumer features. Well if theyre happy to sabotage their game then Im happy to go buy any other game that does physical right.

As an investor in Ubisoft let me just say, they are difficult to properly evaluate because their business model is kind of hidden within that cashflow. As someone who has been invested in them for a best part of over a decade, they appear to not be very profitable, when they in fact they actually are. They are one of those companies that reinvests everything they make back into the company...
Ubisoft is also one of the few AAA companies where you rarely see layoffs. They spend an inordinate amount of resources building quality teams. And that is an important risk factor in retention/quality of workplace.
All that in mind, with or without you, Ubisoft and people like me invested in it will and has still seen success.

If game companies go all digital its a better deal to game on PC, as you can find game keys much cheaper and no monthly fee for online play! If you stay in a closed system like Sony has set up, they can control the prices much easier!
In regards to the topic surrounding the sustainability of game development and game prices, I think you touched on an aspect of that in another news story today, which is Ubisoft charging for multiple editions, which also include early access to the game.
I've seen this a lot lately. Gamers and the media getting hysterical over developers/publishers charging for certain types of post game or early access content. But this is largely how they will be able to maintain delivering games at the price they currently are. And unless gamers want the average prices for AAA games to be $90-$100, then I think we need to be ok with not getting every single thing for a game at that base level $70 price point.
I mean, sure, make a stink if they start releasing largely incomplete games with very little content for $70 and then charge more for the "actual" complete game. But as long as this additional paid content is largely just extra and the $70 game itself feels complete, be okay to with that.
And gamers often tend to view this kind of thinking as someone who is a corporate shill who wants the industry to run rampant with greed. But this is simply being okay with supporting an industry that we love as they sort out how to bring us high quality content without going out of business.
I have been waiting on Princip the Sand of time since the announced the remake for three years. Surely this game ought to come out sometime this year.

It's just marketing speak. I don't know why Jon is repeating it. Microsoft said the same when they were talking about Project Scarlett (which became the Xbox Series X).
I appreciate and note your love for Gaming News! 🙏🏽

When that botched preview was shown it was already said back then that it would go back to the original studio who made the original game. That being Montreal and that they would redo everything and that they got the whole original team back together. So I'm confused why it's been brought as of this wasn't public knowledge already. 🤷🏽♂️
If game companies could just make good 15-20 hour games for the old price of $60 I would be fine with that. Someone needs to step in and make sure they stay under budget! You know their is massive wasteful spending!
And don’t forget that one of the lead devs and community manager has been very racist and nasty and neither they nor Ubisoft have apologized
Yup people need to talk about this! The DEI for ESG score is out of hand and the industry need to crumble and rebuild by people that actually care about gaming and not simply pushing their agenda

It just means that the final code for the game is ready. The disc containing the final code is the "gold" disc which will be copied in manufacturing.
I can confirm, There are like 3 websites to get a MIG switch and the dumper in Mexico.
That sounds like a bit of irony. If things like the MIG Switch have a negative effect on the used game market then it’ll only encourage more people to buy new, thus giving the game publisher more money.
The game ive been playing mostly has been Balatro. £15. Making a fun game with a core mechanic is all you need and it can be done cheap. Most AAA games are all style and no substance. Thousands of dollars are spent building set pieces that you run through once.
