Subscription entertainment hurts the quality all the way down to a developmental level. It is the most anticonsumer move in entertainment.
I agree. Sub models are just as bad as live service or mtxs, just in a different way. There's a limit to how many people will sub and so either companies can't fund proper development of new content once sub counts stall, or they have to constantly raise prices.
Sadly thats where the gaming industry is heading. First will be the removal/discontinuing of physical media (which is currently happening, you can't buy Movies and Video Game disc at Wal-Mart and BestBuy, soon Target is next) then after that, it'll all be sub based on systems cause it's more profitable to release it on your sub instead of a disc.... or so they say

Xbox killed the profitability of its individual games in exchange for a subscription service that's now plateauing because it has an inherently limited audience
i think ppls at the top did it cause the are way to greedy like the PS ones cause remember that when MS bought Bathesda few months later they said that they made double the $$$ they spend on Bathesda just from GP/Game sells(and y they included both Xbox/PC GP)

However, the current output of Xbox first party games have been pretty average outside of a few key titles.

Adding microphones to consoles is one of the worst, most intrusive decisions ever made. Gamers already lack trust in big companies. My ps5 lowering the volume of whatever im watching because it "thinks" I said something, when really im trying to work out with some background distractions is the epitome of intrusive.
People are paranoid enough when we can mention a city somewhere, and see adverts for it on our phones 30 minutes later.... Now my console is listening too??? wtw.

Switch 2 is looking like a significant upgrade from the current Switch, with the 12GB RAM so no more memory bandwidth bottlenecks and people complaining it’s not 16GB RAM should remember that Nintendo’s OS won’t be bloated like on the Steam Deck that runs windows or PS5 or Xbox which has heavy OS and Nintendo isn’t going anywhere near 4K but 1440p is possible.
The Activision Blizzard acquisition was terrible for Xbox in hindsight. It brought a ton of attention to the Xbox division of Microsoft, and they're paying the price.
It's really sad to see this implode. So much wasted potentially because the heads of Microsoft only care about numbers...
If Xbox does end up Sega-ing, then I wonder who's gonna take up the new opening. As insane as it sounds, I wouldn't be surprised if we see a Stadia Box or an Apple Box if Xbox actually does go full third party.

This is a bad moment but not a Sega level catastrophe. It took several failed console launches and infighting between Sega America and Sega Japan before the company crashed and burned. Things can turn around but Xbox needs to 1) pull their head out of their ass and 2) start releasing the large library of games they are sitting on onto Game Pass
If Xbox really went 3rd party that doesn't necessarily mean there's an opening . There are already 3 other major platforms out there - Nintendo, Playstation and Steam. Xbox is hardly anything more than a gimped PC anyway

Everybody celebrating that Activision acquisition and forgetting this kinds of things never end well. Now hopefully people will think twice before pushing for and supporting Microsoft and Sony to acquire companies. Having a couple boardrooms and ceos control this industry is bad for it.

You talk like it would make difference if people are or are not pushing companies to acquire studios, if a big company want to buy a studio, and the owner/owners want to sell, it's gonna happen.

Imagine working your ass off as an indie to create your own studio and be proud of it, then you get bought out by someone like Microsoft worth more than 3 billion and think your studio will grow and improve because of it only for said company to shut your studio down. That is just evil and sad. At this point it's better to stay indie and far away from these corporate entities.
I wouldn't say to stay far away, but publishing deals might be better than outright getting bought, though indie devs might not always, or even most of the time, have a say on that. Something like those indie games published by EA or doing timed exclusivity deals for games that make sense, like a platformer getting first released for Nintendo consoles, might be preferable.

I think most of xbox's player base moved on to PC and playstation. AAA single player expeirences and large multiplayer live service is what's in right now. Smaller "gamepass studios" aren't making them any real $ and neither is selling xbox console
Tbh I feel Xbox needs to replace Halo as their system seller. Sony replaced Crash with Spyro, Spyro with Jak, Jak with Greek Kratos, Greek Kratos with Nathan Drake, and Nathan Drake with Norse Kratos. Xbox got on the map when Halo was a groundbreaking series, so they need to make a new groundbreaking series while Master Chief retires.
Yet chasing those AAA & large multi's are part of what's murdering gaming. AAA might be doing better...if corpos weren't so hard for """consultancy""" companies who are literal quality-wreckers. Of course, due to the cost of AAA development, a LOT of companies are accepting loans from certain financial institutes who in turn require the usage of the previously-mentioned quality-wreckers in exchange for the cash. Execs also have yet to realize that they don't control what multi-player games get popular.
The Xbox brand was never really all that successful. . . . Ever! Since the days of the OG Xbox, games that weren't shooters or sport titles never sold well, that includes first party as well. It's hilarious how back in the day, pro-Sony websites would claim that third party games don't sell on Nintendo while they gave Xbox a free pass because they hated Nintendo more.
They are about to become a candy crush / CoD one trick ponny. Giving up on gaming as an artform. So basically on their way to become EA. Sad.

12 GB is 2 GB more than Series S, also Nintendo OS is taking less RAM so it's gonna be at least 3 GB more for games than Series S!
Games targeting a true1080p on handheld, 1440p docked or 1080p docked with locked 60fps would be sufficient for me to consider the Switch next gen. Don't need true 2160p60 or 2160p120.

You know what would be nice for the Switch 2? If the grips on the side were a little more ergonomically designed. The Switch isn't comfortable to hold for extended periods unless you get some kind of case for it.
Why you don't by 3rd party grip for your Switch ? I buy grip for my Switch Lite in it's miles better. Nintendo clever because they want to help 3rd party business. If you give grip in your base portable console likes in Rog Ally & Steam Deck, 3rd party grip will not sell many

This is the beginning of the end for Xbox. I still love my Series X, but it will be the last Xbox I buy whether they stay in the hardware business or not.
To be honest, even if I am not the biggest Xbox fan I think it's pretty sad that if they'll abandon the hardware business, just for the fact it'd mean that the market will be dominated by PlayStation and Nintendon and even then PlayStation would dominate the high-spec console business, while Nintendo would fill their hybrid console niche, they won't compete directly unless Sony considers entering the portable market again. There's the PC market, but that's another thing
The Series X is both my first and last Xbox. I bought it mainly to play older games I missed out on.
The beginning of the xbox was in the beginning of the last gen, when they make xbox one more expensive because of kinect, and trying to not let people sell their physical games, they never recovered from that.

Literally just put out a masterpiece with dozens of masters of their industries , including the director of multiple Viewtiful Joe games, many Devil May Cry 3 devs, Okami devs, and Resident Evil 2 / 4 devs, and multiple Bayonetta devs.
I would check your sources next time, because those are some revolutionary games, which Hi-Fi Rush is one of them.
It seems like the Leaders wanted to start their own company/s.... partially I think that Tango should not have shut down... yet if the people wanted to move and do other things and maybe partner with xBox in the future, it would be best for everybody.... There is way too much that we don't know.
Exactly, it's a process that takes time. ps has been in a long process to grow organically and Xbox on the other hand though that throwing money on buying studios was the answer, well these are the consequences.

Although I am excited for the switch 2, I haven't seen many people talk about their online infrastructure. I really hope there's an upgrade of some sort, party chat at the minimum would be nice.
My excitement for the Switch's successor is the idea that games that were released on PS4 natively but as cloud versions on Switch won't be a thing anymore. Hopefully with current gen games, publishers will opt to just not put their game on the Switch's successor if the Switch successor can't run it vs putting out a cloud version onto the system.
Well, there's been plenty of speculation that many games that were released on the PS4 in the last couple of years will arrive on the Switch's successor. So we'll probably going to see games like the moderns Resident Evils (VII to 4 Remake), Kingdom Hearts 3, Street Fighter 6, Persona 3 Reload, Metaphor ReFantazio, Guilty Gear STRIVE, The King of Fighters XV, etc.

When I hear microphone I'm thinking maybe Nintendo came up with their own version of Alexa and Siri. Imagine the Switch 2 sitting in the dock, maybe a "faceless" minimalist dock that doesn't obscure the screen of the system, and it displays all kinds of info and neat little animations. Then you say "Hey Mario, open Metroid Prime 4" and the little Mario animation reacts with a thumbs up and says "let's-a-go", the TV and system switch on and Metroid Prime 4 loads with zero loading times.
Okay, so Animal Well could very well be a GOTY contender and I do hope it does well in sales. That One Person Behind the Game deserves all the praise.

I'm always confused by the people that expect handhelds to come up to ps5 territory or better. There is a reason desktops and gaming laptops are all as big as they are. It has to have controllers, screen, battery large enough to game cause yall will complain if you get more performance but can't play for more then 30 minutes. Tech doesn't magically shrink it takes a long time and lots of research especially if you want a system under 1k dollar.

Less than 25% engagement with Hellblade 2 is exactly the reason why Tango got shut down, and why Ninja Theory is next. You can't spend millions and years making a niche game for it to not move subs in Game Pass, let alone engage your current subscribers. This isn't a Game Pass problem, a MS problem, or even a creative problem: it's that games cost too much and take too long when making something at a Hollywood level.
Animal Well shows once again how a small game can do better than AAA and that's what's killing the industry at the top.

I think it'd be less than 400. Seems like the cpu/gpu/igpu architecture is half a decade old with some with some newer enhancements. I'd say 350 personally.

I hate to see the next Switch trying to compete with the other high-end handhelds with all these upgrades, and forego the innovations they were known for before. Nintendo systems have always been the odd ones out in a good way, l just hope they don’t get dragged down by the pressure of competition. At least their library remains to be their ace in the hole.
They won't, Nintendo flopped hard when tried to make powerful consoles (N64 and Game Cube), and broke records and sold millions with weaker ones (Wii, DS and Switch, 3DS was also weaker than Vita), and considering that Nintendo games doesn't need that much power, with the exception of Zelda and maybe Xenoblade, I don't think Nintendo will try to "compete" with those high-end handhelds that lose to a outdated console like the Switch. Nintendo will probably play safe, they gonna do a decent upgrade, make it welcoming to the third parties, but not forcing too much.
I think Nintendo has "learned their lesson" when trying to innovate. I mean, I know there's plenty of fans that grew up during the Wii and WiiU era that kind of miss those experimental and weird features their consoles had, but I think Nintendo now just wants to play it safe, and that's probably the wisest thing they can do at this point.

Also, you'd think they'd give it a little bit to see if possibly adding COD to gamepass would up subscription numbers before giving studios the ax.
The whole thing smells of bad management decisions from the top down.
At this point, it doesn't matter. When Game Pass flatlined at 30 million subs, it became apparent that it wouldn't be sustainable. Microsoft's goal was 90 million subs by 2027, and even if COD could double subs to 60 million, that's still well short, and there are no other heavy-hitter games, nothing bigger than COD that's coming out. The next big game is GTA6, and there's no way Rockstar is letting that game go to Game Pass. So, that's why Microsoft is probably going to be raising the price of Game Pass and may even stop having their first party games go to Game Pass on day one. It's just killing sales.

The Twitter/X integration with the Switch was far more convenient than Facebook. I never have to constantly log back in with X.
The fan in my switch totally failed, and for a month i used an external fan that plugged into the dock, only playing it while docked, and it worked surprisingly well

Wasn't Famiboards created because there was a flame war at Resetera due to the Switch being more popular in Japan or something? Because I've heard that weekly Japanese sales reports posts in the site (and NeoGaf before) were very popular, but ever since the decline of the PS brand in Japan, there's less people discussing weekly numbers

Im kinda excited for switch's first-generation titles, possibly getting the upscale treatment and other enhancements. That said i would love a BotW Complete Edition with said enhancements, that might be a 80$ since it would include all the dlc.
Why does everyone assume, that Nintendo is doing enhancements to their Switch games for Switch 2.
Like, can you imagine them doing this for all their games, also having to go through all their 2nd Parties (IS, HAL), meaning they have to put a team aside for just doing this.
I can maybe see the games running more stable, like on a overclocked Switch.
@LG555 we should see automatic gains across the board just with the spec bump. I know this because ppl are playing tears of the kingdom at 60fps by overclocking the apu. Enhancements would be more textures, shadings, and other visual gains. All i want is true 1080p60 on handheld, 4k60 docked and hopefully 128gb internal storage. As far as enhancements(remasters) go, yes they could do this for all their games but most likely they will do this only for their best sellers and perhaps some 3rd party will too.
Fan in the dock? I'm going the copium route and hope that they're going to have some hardware in the dock to improve things, whether it's a whole dedicated GPU, an upscaler, or, heck, even additional storage. I feel like the dock was a missed opportunity last time. Anyway, in that case, the fan wouldn't necessarily cool the actual Super Switch device, but cool the dock itself.
The ROG Ally presentation made me think of when Sony had that PS5 press release in March 2020 where nothing really was announced

Switch 2 I’m going to wait for the switch 2 OLED. I upgraded from switch to OLED and I don’t think I can go back. I’ll see how the new screen looks I guess before I judge. But also my backlog is massive so I rather wait for the OLED version or pro or whatever they will release after.
Yeah I love the Oled but my only issue is its weight for a handheld.. I'll probably hold off til after I get a Portal & replace my dead Vita
@@Mintcar923 I have a portal. Highly recommend it especially if you’re a dad and get so tired even playing on a TV sometimes is inconvenient 😂. It runs surprisingly well on remote play as long as you figure out the proper wifi and tv setting.

Hearing you mention the top brass of Microsoft, the decision to shut down these studios makes sense to me. The top brass would only focus on numbers. It was still a shock to hear that Microsoft had made this decision.

If it really does have 12GB of RAM, coupled with DLSS and modern file compression techniques, then holy cow, this is gonna be a beast of a console and the closest Nintendo has been to their competition specs-wise since the GameCube. Its gonna be relatively future proof and stay around for 10 years.
12 gb with decent memory bandwidth will help with future proofing.

It NEEDS to be at least 16 if they want it to last more than four years. Unless they have some all purpose dlss that doesn't need tweaks done by devs, but that isn't a thing yet
Been saying that the leap in power for smaller chips has been pretty big over the past few years, when the switch came out it was kind of old hardware already so lots of years of improvements will definitely let us see a big boost in performance. Hopefully it helps make games run at 60fps more consistently or at all. Just hope we dont get the ghosting of DLSS too.
I’m so glad they went with 12GB of Ram as originally it was looking like they might go with 8 so this is going to allow a lot of PS4 multi-platform games to be ported to Switch 2 easy and run better

Hellblade 2 can't help GamePass grow when it is a 10 hour (or less) game. You buy a trial month and cancel it after. Your poll perfectly illustrates why GamePass is detrimental to these shorter singleplayer games. Most people will fly through it on GamePass and then Microsoft gets upset when it "underperforms" in sales.
Honestly Xbox fanboys should be begging games like this to go multiplat for there to be any chance of saving the devs. I hope this is a wake up call to everyone who was cheering on the Activision acquisition. Reminder - corporate consolidation is almost never a good thing.

I finally gave up on Xbox. Canceled my Game Pass subscription because I just don’t like the direction they are currently going. That obviously does not affect their bottom line that I’m not subscribed, but I just could not justify it anymore. Hope they can turn things around and do right by the fans/studios.

As I was saying, phil is just a face to represent many faces who are really making the decisions. Im sure he pitches ideas but its probably shot down. I miss the ol xbox that purely fun rather than corporate appeasing uninteresting bland box. They killed halo and forza and it hurts to see them in the state theyre in, and good games like Hifi rush are gone because they dont exploit players? Yeah a lot needs to change hardware and game wise for xbox to get back to its glory days.

The thing is, no one at the highest levels of talent and quality will want to work at microsoft studios after this. They have just communicated clearly that even if you make a well received, award winning, creative and profitable game, you will not have any expectation of stability or continued employment. Sometimes talented people need to time to cook and iterate and learn, but microsoft only wants the ultra profitable right from the start. They'll never get talented devs like this.

Docking already changes stock clock speeds, theyre different from handheld mode
If 1080p is the max res, being 80ish% of the XsS (power wise) sounds about right. Meaning at full optimization, the games will look about the same as the XsS graphically.
Leaks say the proccesor architecture is half a decade old with some more recent enhancements. Still running on only 12gb of memory, I cannot see it pushing 4k @ 60 fps dlss upscaled from 1440p or 900p in many AAA games. Expecting very few to run that well.
If indeed there's well documented instances of developers expressing how hard it is to optimize games for the Series S on split 10gb of memory, the Switch 2 will have dropped support from AAA devs after four years on 12gb and an eight year old cpu+gpu/apu/igpu.
So prettty much 2d & 3d cell shaded titles and games in development for seven+ years (metroid prime 4) will be fine.
This is worrying. I really want to like nintendo, but they make it so hard

my guess to this whole XBOX mess is that at the end of the day, after all the amazing reviews and awards HI-FI RUSH didn't make enough money and when you think about it that's the weak point of gamepass - the idea is that you'll get to play the full game and if you like it you'll buy to own but I guess too much people just play the games, mark them as "played" and move on so in the end you can get millions of players playing a game and none of them buy it which in turn make the suits at MS who looks at the bottom line turn to phil spancer with a "WTH is this? this studio doesn't make any money! shut it down!" which is a real shame but that's business I guess.
And even for those wanting to buy like me, I couldnt get it because I didnt want to support or download denuvo, theyll take the lack of sales as being a game problem but its mostly the baggage that comes with it. I'll try to get the physical which came way too late but even then its through LRG, and whatever cut would have gone to the devs wont anymore which ehh.. they deserved the bonus from physicals, not the phat cats that still have a job.
The studios should be getting a royalty share based upon downloads, the same way Amazon pays authors who get reads from Kindle Unlimited. There’s no other way for Gamepass to be sustainable at the studio level if you’re expecting the studio to actually make money.
I feel like this argument becomes super weak when you realize that PS+ Catalog has more games than game pass, and in my opinion, a lot better choices. The only difference is sony isnt putting games on PS+ Catalog "day one". That was a big mistake of Xbox, launching first party games day one on game pass
I look at Microsoft and I feel like I gotta place them even below EA from now on. And that's not an easy task. When Motive Studios pitched Dead Space 2 Remake EA said, "no we don't like that idea, we rather put you in the Battlefield dungeon to all of the others". And when Tango pitched Hi-Fi Rush 2 to Microsoft they said, "no we don't like that idea, you may leave now, your studio is now closed!" At least Motive survived that unfavourable pitch, they only got a jail sentence.
Switch 2 allegedly has 1536 cuda, 48 tensor and 12 RT cores
RTX 3060 has 3584 cuda cores, 112 tensor and 28 RT cores -> 135% "more"
RTX 4050 "laptop" gpu has 2560 cuda, 80 tensor and 20 RT cores -> that's still 66% more, and that's about as strong as GTX 1080 Mobile
We'll have to see what will they do with proprietary CPU, OS, memory bandwidth and so on...
