oh god i totally forgot about that joke
Probably. LABO OLED
😂😂🤣
Haha best comment of the day
I never thought I would see "Dock with LAN port" as a selling point on the side of a mainstream console in 2021. What a time to be alive.
Only Nintendo would scam people into thinking that a port that is standard in almost all electronic devices is somehow state of the art.
@@ooze1982 and people will buy it in droves, because Nintendo. I think it's a great system in general and this one is fantastic for anyone who doesn't have the original, but I'm going to be keeping my original. The Steam Deck interests me much more.
The kick stand being updated is a selling point. That's how useless this thing is. Meanwhile nintendo fanboys who have no games to play rush to buy it just to get that feeling of having something new to use.
Live long enough past the golden generation see the decay and everything else around it
@Dan Smith "Console: a small electronic device for playing computerized video games."
You tell me.
I feel like this only really appeals to people who play a decent amount of time in handheld. I myself don't really do that too often. Sticking with my og for sure
Nah. The sales numbers will show that A LOT of people want that premium feel regardless.
@@figuredrawing4912 I don't know. It's not worth it to me. I don't see much of a difference besides handheld stuff and storage.
@@danielramos6466 I have the day one Switch. I mainly play handheld and from my experience, the OLED is much better. Definitely worth it.
I played docked most of the time . Since I got the Oled haven’t used my dock . Prefer to play it handheld only truly does make huge difference . 👌🏽
i play handheld 95% of my playtime and for me its not worth it given that any new model that comes after OLED switch will likely be more powerful, so I wont buy it.
Looks mighty nice, but my OG Switch is still alive and kickin', so I'm sticking with it :)
T fernbach I don't play switch in portable mode. It's just too uncomfortable and it feels like it'll break if I look at it wrong. Horrible features for a portable if you ask me but I was raised on og Gameboy and links awakening so I was spoiled. Ags-101 gba is still by far the best portable system ever made.
I had mine for a year. I considered selling it and getting the oled. But I'm on the fence if it's worth the hassle.
I play mine a lot not docked. One with gamestops upgrade for 169.99 cdn with trade of dock system. It was kinda no brainer to trade in my launch system. As battery wear and tear. As well as screen, as well as joycons starting to have issues. The upgrade dock is nice. With having more memory and new upgraded screen it was probably cheaper in long run then buying held held one or new one as mine starts to die.
Same. I mostly play handheld, but I’m happy with it. I suspect the new switch will be holiday 2023
@@lancenorman2632 with the OG model you can jailbreak it and do that nice stuff that you can't with the new model so id say keep it. And if you do sell it if it's worth your time you can find someone who'd want to do that and pay a tad more than if you were to just trade it in or sell it
Yes, I did, and I can confirm it is a great upgrade. My wife who doesn't really get into picture or resolution was even impressed by the OLED display as well a the premium feeling build. Quality upgrade from a day 1 model.
First comment I read after just ordering one and therefore watching this vid, which also is of a white one like mine. I've seen and played on the normal LCD one but at the time I didn't have a need for a dockable handheld. Now I do have the need :-) about to get a back operation so I'll be spending time in hospital soon.
I preordered it and it came yesterday with Metroid Dread. It's my first Switch and I'm very happy with it :)
in my country i have to wait 5 months for it so i gave up and bought old nintendo :/
Congrats
@@janpechacek6647 That's sad. I can't get a PS5 until now so I know how you feel. I hope you have fun with the old Switch as well.
Buy botw it's worth it! I've had it for 3 years and still playing it. There's a ton of new glitches you can do that make the game more challenging or learn that make the game easier like BTB, Wind bombing, or shield clipping.
@@therealmariofan Thank you! It wasn't that hard to get for me. I was so excited that I got 11 other games even before I had the console :).
You kept the auto brightness on when turning the brightness all the way up. I did that and it still adjusts itself even if you have it all the way up. Turn off the auto brightness and it gets way brighter.
Have you noticed if it does that also when in really bright environment (like outdoors during daytime)? I mean, is the "auto brightness" off also then noticeably brighter, thanks?
Can confirm.
@@tkermi it's really hard to when I walk outdoors with it, but I would say it's adjusting for the sunlight like it's supposed to. Not very bright though in the sunlight.
@@tkermi wait are you asking if it's still brighter outside with the auto brightness off. If so, not really much of a difference outside either way. I believe the auto brightness does what it's supposed to when outside and turns itself all the way up
@@thischildishlifestyle Yes, I meant the difference outdoors between the auto brightness max and the max when auto brightness is off. Thanks for the info! I was guessing it works like you describe, happy to got that confirmed.
I like how the box it comes in is 60ish% smaller than the base model. It makes it easier to store on your shelf.
Take note, Sony.
@@fattiger6957 Lol yeah the PS5 box is the size of a whale.
@@themightytammos it doesn’t help the console itself is the size of a small SUV.
It means they can ship more at once. Shipping is extremely costly and ends up being the second biggest factor in deciding MSRP, right under retail markup. They did it to save on shipping cost.
It's funny how boxes always get smaller the longer a console generation goes on
different box could be just to help non gamers get the right one when shopping for gifts. especially with the red/blue joycon version.
I agree. Nice observation.
Red Blue joycon version has the same box for OLED model.....
@@trueshot55 Yes, that's what the OP is saying. It makes it easier to not confuse the neon OLED and neon LCD.
Pretty sure they’ll notice the price lol
@@trueshot55 no it doesn’t. Both OLED boxes are flipped and a different size.
Just a heads up but if you look in the manual nintendo warns you that there is already a shatter resistant screen protector already installed
Oh I didn't know that. I bought a screen protector and applied it I will get double the protection now.
That could explain the rainbow effect, though i’ve never really taken a look at an OLED screen up close to know 🧐
This OLED switch is basically for:
1. Someone who still doesn't own a switch.
2. Someone who owns a 1st generation switch, who mainly plays in handheld mode more than docked and wants to upgrade.
Its somewhat disappointing. Even a slight boost to RAM and CPU clock would've been nice with a 128GB base storage.
3 people who are thinking about upgrading from their switch lite
I have a few friends with Switch Lite they are upgrading
It’s a disappointment until you hold it in your hands. It feels like a premium product the old one feels like a toy now
Negative Ghost rider. The homebrew community would disagree with you on your 2nd reason. No need to upgrade to this version if you have the OG which is moddable.
Switch off auto brightness makes it even more brighter. Big difference.
Aye, first thing I did, only problem is at night, almost burnt my returners out last night
@Paul mh yep, that's why I also try to stick with those things as well
@Paul mh sounds like your buying shit products my s20+ has been fine since launch
@Paul mh But the Samsung Galaxy S8+ display is driven much harder. In 10% window it has up to 870 nits (some claim 1,020 nits). And in full screen 650 nits. Switch OLED only has about 340 nits (both 10% window and full screen). Though I'm not sure if this was measured with "Auto Brightness" on of off (I guess, off).
So at max brightness the Switch OLED is only about the same as Galaxy S8+ at 39% brightness (if the scale is linear - I'm not sure).
Also the Switch OLED uses a newly developed RBG OLED type with even better optimized subpixel structure than Galaxy S8+ Super AMOLED.
I have s9 no screen burn, had it 3 years
Cosmetic improvements are nice but they need to upgrade the hardware. I own an original switch model & play it mostly docked so there is no incentive for me to pick it up personally but if you don't have a switch then this is your best option.
@Joe: Same here! The new Oled looks nice but I almost never play hand held.
I think the OLED model will sell well with Metroid and Pokemon and given a lot of Pokemon fans do by a Nintendo handheld only for Pokemon and one of the contributing factors to Nintendo success in the handheld market. For upgrade it's a whole new console Nintendo would of likely updated the hardware like the new 3ds but their is a global chip shortage since ships are stuck in china for two weeks quarantine before leaving to ship the computer chips
At this point I don't believe in a Switch Pro - you'll be waiting for the next console (i.e. 2023 at the earliest)
They used the saved cardboard to line their pockets.
I was relieved they didn't release a Switch Pro. The Switch is 4.5 years old. I'd rather ride out the rest of the system's life with my original model rather than having my arm twisted to upgrade.
I got mine yesterday and I had the V2 switch. Even then, when you look at the whole picture outside of just the screen and kickstand, I think it's worth the upgrade. I sold my Switch for about $300 and only paid about $70 out of pocket which was nice. While the screen is a noticeable upgrade, the thing that stands out to me the most is the overall build quality. Feels like a much more premium device.
If you're able to just do a upgrade yeah. In my area nobody is paying $300 fir a used switch when that's what it sells for in store.
@@nchatmon94 I had the Mario Red and blue special edition so that kind of helped my resale value. I think above $200 is realistic in a lot of cases. eBay is easy too!
I sold my switch a couple years ago at the beginning of Covid when they were harder to get. Got $280 for it and all the games sold for $40. One thing I like about the switch is how the physical games hold their value well because they never drop their prices. Just order the OLED to play the new Metroid and upcoming prime 4.
I ended up missing my chance to get a preorder so yesterday I got up real early rode my bike to GameStop and sat there at 6:00 in the morning until they opened making me the first in line and because of it I found out not only did they only get three pre-orders for the thing but they only had one extra so I got lucky enough to be the one person to get it that didn't pre-order
I lucked out in a somewhat similar way I worked till way late but went over to Fred Myers just to ask if they'd get more cus I figured they'd be sold out turns out they had one left under the counter and I picked it up it's the neon version not the white but I couldn't decide which I'd prefer anyways so I don't mind
@@thepowerofweed nice I got the white one but I found a way that let me have neon too. My first switch was used and had neon ones and the right one failed after two days so I went and got a new set and had the Blue one still and a year later I upgraded to a neon red box switch and after two years the Joycons work perfect so I went and bought a pre-owned right one and traded that in with the spare blue one so I have the white that I wanted without losing a neon set
@@thepowerofweed I work at a Fred Meyer (albeit in a small town) and while I haven't asked how many units we were shipped for launch day, apparently it was enough to last all weekend. (They also kept them in the cabinet under the counter, not the display case.)
Buying the OLED Switch, obviously I knew the screen would be nicer than the original - but the jump is so substantial in person. I think if someone uses their Switch 40% or more of the time in handheld - this actually is very much worth the upgrade (though I can't pretend I didn't want a performance boost, which would've made this a no-brainer for everyone)
$350 for an ever slightly bigger screen with more vibrant colors? Lol no way
Maybe if you didn't have a switch but is it really worth 300 bucks for a screen up grade? I think not. Mine works just fine well minus the crappy joy cons haha table top works just fine with my pro controller lol
Waste of money
The difference really doesn’t show up in video like it does in person and I only play my switch in handheld so it was worth the upgrade. And the battery life is so much better than my original switch I’ve had since day 1 so the battery capacity probably around 15% less than what it started with. I’m gonna hook my old switch to my tv permanently.
@@ChadKenova why only in hand held? Such a better experience on a big screen with a pro controller 👌
Just upgraded to the OLED from a switch lite that had a few issues and needed replacing anyway. Wow. The difference is insane. The size and screen quality is amazing and the whole thing just feels heavy and premium. I've been playing Diablo 3 with a buddy lately and just the size of the everything and the richness of all the colors is a treat.
I just ordered the switch today and it’s gonna come in 2 weeks and I’m very exited because I’m upgrading from the switch lite and I plan to use it equally between handheld mode and tv mode :)
I'm also upgrading from a Switch Lite. Playing BotW on it .. the screen is just too small for me to really enjoy it. I waited out for a Lite specifically for the purpose of a true upgrade from a 3DS rather than upgrade to a full console but .. that doesn't seem to be the case. Some games were truly just meant to be played on a monitor. So, to get this and to have that option to hook up to a bigger screen just seems to be a really good idea and to have the biggest screen available in handheld mode is also a bonus.
@@nomadicgamer9466 yeah for real tho. It’s going to be a huge difference for the both of us.
@@berry3753 Got oled and lite and unless I'm looking for the difference i never notice it except it being brighter lol
Nah!!!! Don’t lie… just the screen es a bit bigger and that’s it. Does not worth the extra Dollars. Use that money to buy games instead.
I purchased mine with Dread yesterday, after just owning a switch lite. I really love the white looks, and I'm really enjoying the beautiful colors. The only thing I don't like is how the slightly bigger size renders it incompatible with a lot of existig accesories.
Switch grip pro fits. It’s a bit tight but it’s fine
That's dumb
@@sandman8993 I modified the rubber on the sides and slides in and out like butter. It's perfect, even though I have the new OLED (Beatemups) grip and Skull and Co grip preordered. At least I have something for now.
Yeah, I have a third-party console grip for playing in handheld mode and the Switch OLED is about 1/8" wider than the original Switch, JUST enough to get in the way.
I got a lite like 2 weeks ago the store that i got it at had the blue one with animal crosing(its in croatia) but i heard the drift is worse on lite so i am kinda scared i made the wrond desision
The OLED looks great, but the OG is still doing just fine so for the time being I'm sticking with it. Now if an update were to happen to make games 4K as it has been rumored that it's 4K ready than I'll definitely upgrade.
That is my stance as well, but I do play in Handheld 99.99% of the time. With a 4K Switch, I may actually dock it.
@Paul mh That may be what it is used for. I mean, technically, you'd have to use the dock to get 4K and most people have internet.
Also, I'd doubt they would make physical Nintendo games that are 4K compatible for the Switch OLED just because they would only be able to be played in Docked mode with the 4K. It wouldn't be able to run in Handheld mode.
The system may be ready for 4K upgrade~
*BUT* until original Nintendo games are made for 4K and hold @60FPS, OG Switch all the way.
Its still worth the upgrade dude 4k or not, i have all three switches and once u see and feel the oled switch in person you wont go back. Most brome people who cant afford it right now thats the same excusw they use. U can trade your old switch in gamestop will ive u 260 which you'll just pay 90 bucks for the new one.
@@redcrimson1028 damn. 260? Wasn't expecting that much honestly
I’ve been enjoying mine but the transfer process is a NIGHTMARE especially if you have a bunch of digital games.
It was a bit annoying to have to redownload all the games even though they were on an sd card. The transfer process itself was ok, but they really should have options like “ do you want to import your mii’s at the same time’, “remember to use the transfer app for animal crossing” . And strange you can’t transfer accounts not tied to a Nintendo account
Good reason to maybe buy physical games..... less hastle, slightly.
Agreed
I’m chilling with my upgraded original switch from 2019 with the better battery life. I don’t really want an oled rn
Yea man I feel ya on that, I can't find anything where it like shows you what you own all in one spot
I thought the unit felt better just taking it out of the box. The screen is fantastic. What wasn't fantastic is having to re-download every digital game I bought over the years.
Yeah, that is why I didn't buy it. The screen is worth the upgrade, but the tedious nature of transferring is a put off if you are like me and play something like 80% docked and 20% handheld.
Uh…why not transfer the SD card?
@@Wolfie1262 it doesn’t work like that. If you take the SD card out of the old switch and plug it into the new switch, it first wipes it clean then reformats it to be use by the new switch. I know cuz that’s what happened when I transferred my stuff from my OG switch to the OLED switch I got Friday. Luckily I knew about it ahead of time and transferred my date first before trying that to see if it was true.
@@Wolfie1262 it’ll have you format the card. I’ve gone through that bs twice 😑

@@rpineda8373 yeah I'm waiting to check out a demo if possible but definitely
@@ChristopherToro no I run the hori thick boi joycons lol
Octopath looks amazing on it. Enjoy!
I will note with my older switch (2018), the first thing I noticed when I got it was that the joycons had enough slack they could move a bit while secure to the switch. If I pulled up or any upward force was applied to the joycons - or say gravity of me holding the joycons and the main switch was floating - you would feel them move upward just a little bit. The joycons were still secure and would not pop out but you would feel this very slight vibration/movement from the friction when it happens. There were even a few times I noticed my joycon - especially the right one - would state they were wireless instead of connected to the switch.
I don't have the new switch oled but I imagine that's what some people were referring to when they said the rails were tighter or more secure. Now I didn't have the revised switch with better battery and I vaguely remember some people mentioning tighter feeling rails then so maybe it's only a difference the oldest switch owners would notice. Of course as you said: some people either from normal use or rough use might also state the rails are stiffer and might wear as time passes. I just wanted to note that when I got my switch in Summer 2018 that was one of the first things I noticed when I played in handheld was the joycons move a little bit.
I like the new power button and volume buttons. I would also accidentally push the power button when I wanted to change volume and the reverse as well. I think maybe they made them so different so that that wouldn’t happen but that’s just my guess
For a 2021 device going into 2022. 64GB storage is absolutely unacceptable. 128GB should be the bare minimum along with boosted RAM and CPU clock speed.
I guess ur right but some new phones come with 64gb of memory....soooo yeah
Disagree 100%, if you buy physical games they take up minimum storage as it actually uses them to play.
Unlike PS4,5, Xbox Consoles where you have to download the entire game to the hard drive which can range from 20-100+GBs.
As stated buying physics media on the Switch is King 👑 ,because they take up such little space.
This is a mid generation update. This isn't the switch 2. Y'all need to chill out. They tried what you want with the NEW 3DS and it sucked. There were new 3ds exclusive games. Nobody wants that. Wait for the switch 2.
I get the request for storage, but what for you need more RAM on the Switch?
@MidnightOK but simply adding more RAM might not be the answer for better performance.
I upgraded and am extremely happy I did. I almost exclusively play in handheld these days and the screen is soooo much better. That being said I completely understand that most people won’t want/need to upgrade right now
i have a 2017 model of the switch and i want to upgrade but i dont think its worth it
@@DefinitelyYoshi
If spending 350 doesn’t break the bank then the OLED is totally worth it
Kaden970 What games do you play the most?
@@jeffghant4760 lately I’ve been playing torchlight 2 and paper Mario. Played a lot of Metroid dread earlier this year though
I upgraded from my 2017 day one Switch because I mostly play in the car on breaks or in my bedroom when my wife is asleep and I don't want to disturb her with the TV on (she likes me to be in the room when she falls asleep though). The OLED screen looks great and the difference is really noticeable in low light.
Apparently the dock supports HDMI 2.0 now, which is an upgrade from 1.4. Means the dock is capable of 4K even if the console might not be.
The chip in the original dock supported 4K too but on it up to 30fps due to the limits of HDMI 1.4.
Should've had an performance boost of some kind. A new kickstand, screen and louder speakers ain't cutting it.
Also more base storage like 128GB or 256GB.
I’m loving the OLED switch especially the white one next to my ps5 looks great. And that bigger screen is amazing and looks great.
Eh.....meh.... still the same SOC so AoC will still play like shit
Literally the same here, I had Neon Pre-Ordered at first for the Black Dock (seriously still waiting on some damn Black Joy-Cons 😒) but since I got a PS5 around the time the OLED Pre-Orders started and I put mine down the PS5 grew on me with the White/Black two tone and I Switched (aaaaaaaahhh 😏 🤦) to the White Model like less than a Month ago 👍 Pretty good so far, prefer the more Premium Feel and glad those damn borders around the screen are basically gone, I use mine pretty much exclusively in Handheld since I have a PS5/X1X I actively use (and prefer) if I'm Home, and I usually take the Switch on the Commute to Work each Day
I have VERY important info about the joycons that come with nintendo switch OLED. First of all nintendo actually did make the drifting wear less of a problem by placing foam pads on the backside of the joycon cover. Remember that this was checked only on the white oled model.
I've made it a habit to put on a screen protector the moment I take anything out of the package.
I can't help but feel it's it's bad design the way your fingers can jab the screen in the back when trying to pull the stand out. I've already seen multiple youtubers damage it with their finger nail.
I did the same straight out of the box. Screen protector all the way
Same here, any new tablet, phone etc screen protector goes on right away
Wait, I'm pretty sure that the Switch OLED already comes with a screen protector on it. I think it even says it on the manual that to not peel off the protector.

I am a handheld switch gamer and I would definitely like to have an OLED model... however! I like having an extra 350$ in my bankaccount while playing my perfectly fine first gen switch, even more
Trade in the old switch and pay less to upgrade. That’s what I did
Auto Brightness „on“ limits maximum brightness on the oled screen. Turn it off for max brightness
I could care less about 4K , I just want to play age of calamity at more than 12 FPS

The oled switch has the same hardware it's going to be the same 12 fps
Yeah, If they ever make a switch pro, I care way more about playing the games at 60 fps than 4k. Playable first, pretty later.
@@BartvG88 fo sho. And it's already a given that whenever they do make the Super Switch that it will already have an OLED screen too, so all this excitement over this revision doesnt make much sense to me

Decent quality of life changes but in the grand scheme of things a small boost to power and memory would've made that price more worthwhile. EDIT and also base storage.
Agreed 128 gb at least enables you to put decent amount of games..
Ethernet port alone is worth the price + new warranty. $350 is peanuts compared to other more expensive systems.
"Quality of life changes" the thing doesn't even fit in any old comfort grips or tight fitting cases. This is the shadiest thing Nintendo has done in a long time.

Launch model owner here, picking mine up today. Can’t wait!!!
YES - it was worth buying! I play mostly in the handheld mode and this is a vast improvement over my LCD switch. I find myself using the kickstand when holding it for my small finger on each hand, it’s pretty comfortable for long sessions. I played Cruisin’ Blast for a couple of hours last night, amazing graphics and colors on this OLED switch. Like you said, there is no going back, my older switch is being handed down to a family member for some cash! Great review, as always!
I rarely ever play handheld mode so this isn't for me, but it definitely makes sense for the company to do this. Looks pretty cool!
Great product review, as I'm considering purchasing this model. Your video was very helpful.
the joycon rails on the oled aren't just tighter because they're new. my v2 switch which i replaced with the oled has significantly sloppier feeling rails with the joycons in and i have not played it a lot in handheld mode or removed the joycons very often, so while the switch overall isn't new, that particular component is still very new as they have seen only a tiny amount of wear and tear. it's possible that the oled rails will loosen up over time but comparing the rails on a brand new oled, to the almost brand new rails on a v2 lcd switch, the oled is so much tighter feeling.
I love my Nintendo Switch OLED. The screen is way brighter than the OG switch.
I get the feeling Nintendo sees the switch as a handheld that can hook to the tv, every update they've made (switch lite and now switch OLED) are all portable bonuses. They haven't done a single thing for us docked players. I love my switch and Nintendo, but I feel like docked players are kinda the middle child who gets ignored.
The Switch is a handheld that can hook up to a television. So many have been in denial about it.
@Paul mh That's funny, I play on a bigger 4K screen and have had no issues
I'm surprised they haven't made a switch that isn't a tablet tbh.
Ha, almost as if there is a global chip shortage. Lazy Nintendo! :p
I'm a docked player too, but I think they were likely planning a power upgrade (considering the modest re-design of the OLED console) but were forced to use the Tegra X1 if they wanted to release the OLED this year.
I mean that's technically what Switch is. A tablet with an HDMI output. A hybrid that's very much biased on the handheld side because the only thing that changes in TV mode is overclocking the GPU. If the dock was an external GPU solution, and it was the CPU that got overclocked when docked it would be a lot more like a home console. Also it is not even really overclocking since the Switch GPU and CPU is running way below Tegra X1's original clocks that was intended for Nvidia Shield.
i bought the OLED a week ago. I'm a PC gamer, but I haven't had a decent handheld since the Game boy advance, and I figured "why not?" I'm not disappointed at all :"D !!!
I wish there was more diversity in the hand models for the box picture of the system.
Thanks for the video! Have a nice weekend!
My guess about the power button is to minimize accidental use, especially with a case. I have the skull&co gripcase and while I love it, the amount of times I I to change the volume and it registers power instead is super annoying
"Switch OLED unboxing? That's soooo last week!" - Kevin Kenson
Poor John.
But still, I like to hear what he says about games. And I believe his viewers do too.
Just got my switch OLED today. Never had one but on the bright side I have years of switch games to experience now and oh boy I’m loving this thing.
I think the main reason they changed the box shape is so tired stockers at 4 AM don't mix up the OG and standard switches and also to make it stand out on the shelf so people will notice it's a seperate thing from the OG switch more easily
I traded in my regular V2 Switch at Gamestop towards the OLED, and they surprisingly gave me $260 for the old system. If you can get it at Gamestop and trade in towards it, I think it's definitely worth the upgrade. Sadly, I haven't had time to play anything yet because of my work schedule, but the home screen looked incredible while I popped all my cartridges in one at a time.
$260...for your old system... Are you trolling?
@@figuredrawing4912 not trolling, I really got 260 for it. I've had people respond to my comment on other videos (at least on a Wulff Den video) saying that they got the same deal. Probably a combination of a promotional value for trading it in towards a new system and getting extra via Power Up Rewards. I really don't understand how they can give that much, considering they'll sell it for 279.99.
thats Bs gamestop is not paying $260 for an og switch..They are selling for $279 shit i don’t think they will give $260 for a ps5 nevermind a switch
@@casualgamer2006 Their trade in page right now says $220 store credit for "Pro value." Only thing I can think of to make up for the extra 40 is a promotion for trading it in towards the new system. They tend to offer these extra trade in values when new hardware is coming out. I wouldn't have believed it either if I didn't see it myself.
@jacob I did the same thing. Reserved it and traded my old one when I picked it up. I was shocked myself.
Nobody mentions the fact that it had double storage.
Woot! Congrats!!!!
Been slacking on ur vids......busy with my new motorcycle license :)
Ill have to go thru and binge watch when I have time, prob after snow hits.
Finally the unboxing I was waiting for.
64GB is still a joke. I would have upgraded if it was 256GB.
For what price though? $150 more for that much internal memory or even more.
Sd cards are extremely cheap these days. It's not that big of a deal.
Don't forget the fact it isn't compatible with most standard switch accessories. It's not a simple screen upgrade.
@@chilly6470 SD cards are also wayyy slower, then again the switch still has super slow flash storage so it wouldn’t matter. An upgrade to an SSD would be huge upgrade.
@@dariuspatterson7039.... Yea, the switch is slow alright. I don't notice any difference between my sd and switch storage.
My first choice of game to look at was BotW as well.
I play mine handheld 99% of the time so I was pretty excited to see the improvement. It’s beautiful.
Spawn didn’t mention the addition of two little rubber ‘feet’ on the bottom edge. Very helpful for tabletop mode.
Picked mine up yesterday at Target. Enjoying it so far.
I really like the white and black and the large screen. Maybe one day I'll grab the OLED but for now what I have is fine for my gaming needs.
I mainly play handheld mode. I traded my launch switch in for the OLED. I think it was totally worth it. Clarity and added size makes the gaming experience much more enjoyable for me. It's easier for me to make our the smaller elements on the screen.
Hope you got a lot for your launch model
Its the best model
That’s a sensible take on the joycon wiggle.
Kevin Kenson seems to think it’s improved on the oled, but like you said, it probably feels more rigid because it’s new! Once it’s worn in, sadly they may start wiggling again.
I like how he reviews the box...like we are going to be playing with that too
The Switch OLED has the same upgrade build boost comparable to that of when the OG 3DS went to the 3DS XL. It's a nice looking piece of equipment.
I play in Handheld 99.99% of the time. I swear this is persuading me to buy it!
Yay now you can see your games lag even better than before with your brilliant OLED screen. Boosted RAM? No. Boosted CPU? No. 128GB base storage? No.
Don't you get tired of complaining?
Yeah, been kinda torn. One on hand everyone keeps raving about the OLED’s color but it is a bigger screen with the same resolution. The pixel density will most likely bother me more. That and there is no skull and co grip case for it (the same one for the OG switch).
I feel like the color will look good, but some games already look super blurry on the small screen.
I hope they’ll have demos of the OLED model because I want to see the screen for myself without paying!
It Is something else. I’ve been playing Metroid on it. And it looks amazing. I don’t think I’ll use my tv anytime 😂
Thank you, you’ve convinced me to take the plunge and move up from my “launch” switch to the new OLED.
Dude you need to turn off Auto Brightness in order to get the full capabilities of the brightness. I think it's supposed to be even brighter than the LCD if you turn offf auto brightness.
Issue is, putting OLED at high brightness drastically increases how fast burn in appears. I have my Vita/Galaxy s9 to vouch for that. You basically have to accept that you're getting the Switch 2 if your doing this.
@@scarffoxandfriends9401 not true if you mix content and don't play the same game for days on end. Even then...
I'd say it's better to leave auto brightness on - the OLED's colour advantages on the original are so much better than the original you don't need max brightness all time to appreciate it.
@@honoredshadow1975 it will happen eventually though. Oled is not perfected yet
@@michaelmyersplays4992 OLED can't be perfected. It's the nature of it. That's why companies are investing so hard to get MicroLED affordable and able to fit into small screen sizes. It's also why Mini LED is also getting a lot of funding.
Looks nice I almost picked one up yesterday but I have a steam deck reserved so I'm probably just gonna wait for that.
Me too. Why have just one pretty handheld system, when you can have *many?*
Steam deck all the way. And then i may upgrade when a new switch pro/new console comes out
@@Mr16emmanuel Steam deck is way over priced for an 800p screen and 2+hrs battery. Even the series s is more powerful so just spend it on next gen
@@mikeuk666 i already have a ps5… i just want all my steam collection on the go. And it’s way more powerful than the switch. For me it’s worth it bc i don’t have to spend any $ on games
I played my OLED Switch all weekend. You have to see it to believe it but the screen is so much better now. All the colors really pop and black is black on the OLED. It also just feels heavier and feels like it is built so much better than the Lite and Original Switch.
I like the new form factor of the box, but I don’t like how close the switch is packed to the edge. feels like it could get banged around during shipping
Those fine Joycons will be fine addition to my Joycons collection.
I see what you did there 😏.
I'd like the upgrade, but I can't justify the cost when my OG is perfectly fine. I'd be tempted by a Lite OLED though
Mine should arrive anytime today! Can't wait!
I can confirm about it being a huge upgrade. I upgraded from my original Lite (but still have it). I also had the launch day Switch from 2017. Everything you said is true.
Me whom has had a Switch since day 1: "Wait... There's a POWER button?"
Considering I was able to sell my launch Switch for almost $300 (hackers/modders are real interested in these which has driven up their value), I’m overall quite pleased with the OLED model’s upgrades for a mere $50 extra. Here we go:
Sweet:
- OLED Screen is absolutely beautiful and looks even more vibrant/huge side by side with the older models.
- Battery life is over 2x what my V1 Switch is down to at this point.
- Built-in Ethernet and 2x external USB ports on dock is helpful.
- Full body kickstand is waaaaay more stable and, when cranked all the way down, allows you to play in tabletop mode whilst charging (just barely).
- Overall build quality is improved (glass screen overlay/less body creaking).
- So far all existing accessories/cases from my old Switch seem to fit and operate with the OLED model just fine.
- Bluetooth headphone connectivity FINALLY SWEET JESUS lol (OK, not exclusive to OLED model but included in 13.0 firmware for all models - about time!)
Meh:
- Joy-Con rail tightness seems the same on my OLED vs launch V1 Switch (many early reviewers seemed to think the figment was a bit tighter?).
- Recessed power button is difficult to find and depress without looking at it (maybe a good feature for some gamers if they have a habit of accidentally pressing it I guess?)
D’oh!:
- Game cartridge slot cover is stupidly difficult to remove to access slot (Maybe my “prison inmate” short fingernails are to blame haha, but legit I could not get it to open even with a pencil and ended up using a credit card to pry it up - Been leaving it loosely covered for ease of game swapping for now).
- Switch-to-Dock fit is sloppy loose with more wiggle room for the screen to teeter back and forth inside as well as the feeling that the entire handheld is balanced almost entirely on its bottom USB-C port (not well supported on its edges making it feel a bit “tippy” or “seesaw” like while docked). It doesn’t affect usability so far, but seems like a much more sloppy fit compared to my old model. (Maybe this was done to accommodate future models with slightly increased thickness or tablet warping issues?) I think you’re asking for scratches on your shiny new OLED screen if you don’t install a protector over it on this model (Got another AmFilm on mine day one).
Lots of minutia here, though I’ve yet to see a couple of these items covered in most reviews. Overall, I’d recommend the upgrade from V1 to the OLED model if you are able to find one! Pretty happy user here with the upgrades overall!
I have the Original Switch Model, just luckily found the White Oled in a target yesterday. My OG switch has nothing wrong with it, I just wanted a nicer screen for handheld, as that my main way of playing. 👌
Traded in my V1 switch for this and it was WORTH it. Once you go oled theres no going back
I just switched from my LCD Switch over to the OLED Model and its a night and day difference. Would never ever go back to the LCD Model. Love it.
Did you end up selling your lcd switch. I have one but want an oled but no point me having both
@@Zach-dx1xp yes will sell it on ebayKleinanzeigen shortly
With all due respect I am a but confused at the initial curiosity. It's an OLED screen and a better kickstand. The end of that sentence has already explained what those things are. I feel like Nintendo could not have made a less impressive and more boring improvement
Thank you!!! I though it was just me.
Bigger, better looking screen is enough for some people to justify the upgrade. This is a great option for handheld gamers who've used and abused their switches since launch that are looking for an upgrade.
@@r_a_w_g_e_r fair enough but considering the biggest issue with the switch is the performance and hardware limitations, Nintendo's upgraded switch feels incredibly lackluster. Especially considering the chip being used to create the switch will cease production soon
@@humansaresilly2465 What? Then why are you upset? If the chip used is gonna disappear then that means that an upgraded Switch is inevitable.
@@Pigmcginnyrig I sure hope so. For the sake of Nintendo fans. But a new switch won't make the OLED any more impressive. If anything that makes it even more pointless
The OLED Looks GREAT. Love that new kickstand and the screen is gorgeous. 🎮👍❤️🎮👍
Actually the O.L.E.D has a screen protector built in you can tell if you purposely scratch the “screen” which is actually the protector also the sides show the plastic protector and it’s easy to see cause of the besels
The OLED is great, but I’d only recommended buying it if you currently only have the Switch Lite model, or no switch at all. If you have a regular switch already, it’s not enough upgrades to justify getting it.
Depends on your financial situation and how much you use it. I have a switch and switch lite. Very glad I got the OLED. Very glad
@@scotius Most people are not fortunate to be in your position, this is the most logical way to go about it if you’re most people
might be worth if you have the V1, at max brightness this thign has twice the battery life.
Imagine Astral Chain running on this in person
When I got mine, Astral Chain was the first game I tried on it
Ooh you have to try Donkey kong tropical freeze
Hollow Knight looks *SO* beautiful on it
Ori, hollow knight, Luigi mansion 3, Astral Chain and bayonetta 2. These are OP to show what an oled can do.
I got one! I wasn't able to get one at midnight. But in the morning I was watching the resellers on Amazon change their prices when it dropped from Amazon. Awesone!
I think they put the power button down is so that if you are playing and turning up/down they don’t accidentally turn their switch off
Its funny how most of the youtubers and gaming journalists were unhappy when Nintendo annonced the Switch Oled. Even so, everyboby is getting it. Nintendo has a done it again. Great video by the way, thank you!
I have a Vizio OLED 55inch tv, I have seen alot of impressions videos on the OLED and was thinking that it wasn't going to be that great, when I unboxed my white Oled popped in Metroid Dread I'm truly impressed, plus I did notice that enhanced audio, plus the hd rumble utilized in Metroid Dread all combined for a nice experience.
About 30 people lined up at GameStop for the OLED Switch yesterday - I was first in line, went like 3 hours early (before they opened). They only had one! I got super lucky I went early lol! People were super mad - And if you call day before and ask how many they will get they only say "Cant tell you." which I think is kinda messed up if you know your only getting one...
When he says review he really means it! Started off from the shape of the box.
This OLED switch is amazing. I bought mine for travel and my old one is docked. Having a bigger screen and way better visuals was a no brainier for me. Jon said it best, “there’s no going back”.
Nintendo is the master at getting us to repurchase the same products over and over.
Speculation is a 4K but when Nintendo releases the all new Switch Lite OLED it will still sell like crazy.
They literally sold us a smaller more portable model and are now selling a larger more portable model.
The only thing stopping me from giving Nintendo my money is stock shortages which in turn makes me want it more.
I never thought I would see the day when someone criticizes a box.
Hey Spawnwave, yeah I picked mine up yesterday. Noticed the screen brightness and size immediately. I play mostly before I sleep in bed and don’t have an OLED TV in the house. It’s a substantial upgrade for me. I am coming from the original Switch that was looking pretty old after 4 years. I’m also playing through some old titles. Dead Cells has some serious colors going on. Also Eastward looks vibrant.
On my LG CX there is a feature called Logo Luminance which dims logos and pixel shift that moves pixels so they don't get stuck, I wish the OLED Switch had something like that to prevent burn-in. But the OLED screen is such a beautiful looking screen.
Even on Vay-cay this man is doing the lords work! See you this afternoon SPAWNWAVE!
I wonder how many times this chap has said “OLED” in the past 2 weeks.
Looking forward to get my hands on one. Just waiting for mine to ship.
Got it and it is a HUGE upgrade. I am so glad I got it. I have the original switch, a Pokémon switch lite and now this. I feel bad for the other switches now…
