@@hokke5434 we are not here for that
I've heard a lot of people say this model is how the Switch should have been at launch and I'm inclined to agree.
OLED screens were very expensive in 2016-2017.
Partial agree. The Switch at launch should have had such (smaller) bessels, should have had this kickstand, etc. But it shouldn't have been OLED for obvious reasons.
@@joeyvigil then how did Sony manage to sell Vita for 200$ before Switch was even released?

If they came out with these improvements right off the start, then subsequent versions may not maximize on improvements & Nintendo wouldn’t be able to ask for as much money.
By coming out with the original switch, and then this one, they essentially maximized profits.

The OLED model actually has a new color setting in the system menu and defaults to "vivid". That's why the color is much more saturated.
Actually, VIVID is default, they said in a developer interview that the "Standard" mode is just intended to look like the LCD screen.
@@timotheatae actually makes sense to be in this way, since most of oled display has a wider color gamut by default nowdays.
@@ES-qy2ju As long as it's accurate, but my guess it's it's as accurate as an LG OLED in vivid mode. People are disappointed when you get the perfect SRGB output that games are designed in.
@@Jaker788 well, the vivid profile is rather the native color of the panel, the standard profile limits the maximum saturation of the panel by software, in any case i would not expect the Standard profile to be really accurate either, just typical.
@@ES-qy2ju There's no real "native" color of a panel, it'll do whatever color you ask for, the range is just higher and denser on 10 bit panels, which this may not even be. But using a vivid profile completely jacks up the requested color into something oversaturated and wrong because the display is interpreting in the wrong color space (SRGB or REC 709 as the output but interpreting it in REC 2020), a calibrated profile would look more muted but closest to how it really was in real life. That's how a lot of HDR TVs do vivid profiles, if it's not a 10 bit panel, it's essentially just moving the color space target to be more saturated and "look good". In video games I think it's up to some preference, but live action or TV it's just too much.
Apparently they're actually just as bright, but the oled looks brighter because of the higher contrast
really dig the username man
Also because the old switch screen isn’t laminated leading to higher reflections.
and a bigger screen dose always looks brighter
I don't buy this for a second. Source for professional brightness testing or GTFO.
pretty sure this is false, they might emit the same brightness but the old switch had alot more layers to send the light through, whereas the new oled has self emiting pixels, so the light is alot more pure and unobstructed
there’s actually a new “console display colors” option for this new Switch that defaults to “vibrant”, you can switch it back to “standard” as I did if you prefer it less saturated, though ideally i’d love an option that splits the difference between the two
I don't see why this is an option Nintendo couldn't give normal switch users. I mean after what 4 years, they decided to give the normal switch plebs the opportunity to connect bluetooth audio devices to their console.
Nintendo could give a lot to the standard and the switch lite, they just don't want to.
Heck I bet if they sat down abit they could also probably drastically improve internet stability or or do performance optimizing on the older devices.
@@Daniel-dj7fh the oled version likely has a wider color gamut. lcd won't be able to display the colors well at all. it would be messy.
@@Daniel-dj7fh now we just need Sony to let us connect Bluetooth audio devices. But instead they produce there own proprietary “lossless audio” system for like 2 products

yay! more fun with anthony! even if the content doesnt really interest me (like a nintendo) i still watch when it's anthony because he has such a cool take on so much hardware
The back plate that covers the cables on the back of the dock, also covers the back vent & makes Switches overheat & bend. Lil fun fact, but I'm glad they made it easier to remove.
I love the little cameo by Linus, and how he jumps back out of the way like "sorry, I don't want to take over your video"
The one thing Nintendo nails is wringing every last cent out of years-out-of-date hardware.
and they are always fun
But those damn games man they sure know how to make some sick shit.
Yeah. After 4/5 years of selling already outdated hardware by the time it came out, they think it's fair to still increase the price $50 to justify an OLED display(and a better stand and ethernet port, wow). And people still give the excuse of "shortages", "OLED is more expensive" as if that justifies it. Nintendo is probably the only company that actually manages to sell a console for a good profit at launch and still have people defend it's high price. I still can't believe we have the same shitty Tegra chip after so long. Like, sure it still plays games good enough and still gets debatably decent ports but it's crazy that we have to justify that when we could have something so so much better. Nintendo's console margins are so much higher than the competition, and people just keep buying it, so they'll just keep doing what they do well which is games. And people will happily overpay for weak outdated hardware to play their games and not realize that they could have something so much better. It's just sad there's no competition in this market, and the Steam Deck likely won't compete with it at all. I'd love to see an actual PSP2, something as good as the original PSP was back in the day, but now. Sadly I don't think we'll have anything close to that anytime soon.

One major problem I have which I can't believe they didn't change in the OLED is the charging port. It's so inconvenient to put it at the bottom whenever you want to play with the kickstand.

Despite all the complaints I have with my gen2 lcd Switch, the OLED is worth the 50 bucks extra if you don't already own one.
If the wifi connection, lan connection were greatly improved on the oled, then for sure. Because I hate it how I still get crazy ass Ping on my lcd switch even with a working lan adapter.
From my personal testing with the switch hardware, I'm pretty sure the bad internet connectivity is a problem with the switches operating system, because on Android the wireless connectivity is way better

Loving my OLED so far. That screen is a dream come true for an old dude with failing eyesight especially on text heavy games.
Awesome! Good for you man.
The larger screen is honestly the best part about the OLED model but even with that point I wonder why people don't just play it while docked when at home. There are obvious use cases like someone sharing a display with someone else in their house but everybody I know has more displays than people in their households so I'm not sure how many people that would apply towards.
I just wanted Linus to quickly compare it against his experience with the Steam Deck
Nintendo won't allow that
@BearApps the Deck might be able to run BOTW.
@BearApps you're aren't stealing from devs, you're stealing from Nintendo fat cats. Or... Buy it once then emulate it
@BearApps mad, deck users will probably get BOTW and metroid dread at 60+ fps, while switch users are left with toxic buyers remorse.
also emulation is legal,so stay even more mad
@BearApps lmao imagine defending a company lol
Frankly, the kickstand and reduced bezels combined obviously with the OLED screen made the purchase worth it to me. I cannot go back to using my old model anymore, it just feels cheap in every way now, so it sits in my newer dock to act purely as a TV-bound console to play party games. I have never docked my OLED Switch, and I don't really intend to frankly. Just look at the opening menus in dark mode IN PERSON and I don't think you'd ever want to go back to an original switch, let alone the Lite. The screen also feels significantly larger even though the difference really isn't that big. Great video, but it's truly something you need to compare in person to really appreciate the differences. Of course there are alot of technical upgrades I would have liked to see, I really wanted a Switch Pro. At the price difference here though, if you're getting your first Switch there's not much of an argument to be made in favor of the small savings for an original.
I was browsing looking for a teardown of an OLED switch, as a person who never got an original and is looking to get one of these magical machines now.
My first thought upon seeing you in the thumbnail was 'This guy. This guy looks like a gen-u-ine aficionado"

Late comment, I know, but I reckon that those scratch/pressure lines you get along the sides (where the bezels are) from using the Switch's original dock are much less of a concern for the OLED.
I play primarily in docked mode, so it's a shame to me that they didnt make a pro version or something with higher performance.
I use to it destroyed my battery now I'm debating getting a switch OLED so it can be portable
All they had to do was unlock more of the power available and waiting in the SoC. Like an additional performance profile. And then let *developers decide* whether or not to invest the time to support that.
Disappointing :/
Yeah, I only play docked.
@@optimust if they did that some developer would try pushing the limit and come up with a game that can only run on the pro also consoles are normally pushed to the limit already unlike pc which have a bit of wiggle room

Its a great pt that they would need to lean conservative like they did with the v1 to ensure consistency. But the current chips in the OLED and redbox v2 switches run at roughly half the wattage of the v1.

Hey I enjoy the content. First vid of yours and it's great !
I pre-ordered.... And actually received it on release day. In rural Australia of all places.
There's shell swap mods for both the joycons and console that are clear. Similar effect to the DBrand sticker but has depth.
And wastes 6 hours of your life
I did it twice and both times took a little over an hour. (One is atomic purple clear and the other ones just clear) I love it and I think its really just the better version of the dbrand shell.
@@KingALLO69 I've slowly been getting mine kitted in full glacier blue. Last bit is the front bezel which I'm not looking forward to, since you need to fully disassemble the console.
@@RavenBomb123 oh i have glacier blue joy con shells as well that I need to build together but I first need some new joy cons for that 😂. That color will be lit bro!
It's not wise to take apart the joy cons...For noobs. Almost destroyed mine when fixing the drift and replacing PCB. It's very easy to damage the ribbon cable and the damn ribbons have to be bent in a certain way or the LED indicators don't work.
@@valentineli305 I mean its not easy but with a little time on your hands its very much possible to do it... I for my part think its more than worth it to swap out the shells, even if there is a risk to damage your joy cons
the "seethrough" dbrand skin will never beat actually swapping the shell out for a transparent one
Duh, idek what this comment is bruh
Does the old switch fit in the new dock without any issues? If they sell the new dock on it's own I'm honestly tempted to get that as someone who plays almost exclusively in docked mode.
It's also worth pointing out that for the $50 you're also getting twice the internal storage as the old model. Not a ton considering it's 64gb vs 32gb and microSD storage is very cheap BUT some things like saves can't be stored on a microSD so it is worth mentioning.
Considering a switch after TOTK release but glad I found this - you're my spirit animal - love you :)
Hard to say if the lifetime of the OLED is that big of an issue. The OLED on the Vita (released 2012, almost 10 years ago) has shown that.
Cant believe they didn't notice that they are in fact, not the same size, and the oled is just enough bigger that no accessories will fit. Watching this while playing kakarot on my new oled switch. Its pretty nice. It's how the switch should have been when it first came out. Worth the upgrade? probably not, but I always play in handheld and love the bigger screen
But if fits the same in travel bags
It’s 3mm wider.
I fail to see how _no accessories_ will fit.
@@NoTraceOfSense no may have been a hyperbole but the game slot, headphone jack power and volume buttons are all in different locations, also the kickstand it's completely different. Most things may fit on the device but will probably not function properly.
@@stevew145 Yeah, I’m being dumb then.
I love that Linus was there haha
Thanks Alot I just ordered one it's on the way👍
was it worth it?
Anthony the type of friend I would love to have ....no Nintendo switch needed. Great character man, wish you nothing but all the best bro.
RIP everyone using headphones in the first seconds xD

I love my Switch Oled, and have my old one in the family room. I play all handheld and love love love the oled.
" I guess the robots have failed us." Need that saying on a shirt!
Ah yes
The Nintendo switch:
O’ Lord Everyone Disappeared (OLED) edition
Yet its still sold out everywhere.
Hahah
@@coolioam8137 to be fair, I can't even find socks at target right now so, being sold out I think is a poor measure of a product success during the pandemic.
@Pixel Man Okay doesn’t matter? Still means it’s a high demand product.

Ok Jerry
So?
Bro you look just like my older brother lol I thought “is this Tony?”
Anyway happy new year!
After years I've decided to get a switch. Of course, I came to youtube to check out review videos and such. Clicked search and as soon as the results loaded I saw Anthony. One second later I heard Anthony yelling: "Nintendo SWIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITCH" :D
I love ATT :D
Oh man Anthony, never hold a drill motor like that. Your hand could slip and you would be surprised how much damage you could experience before you are able to let go of the trigger.
Even though Linus really wished he could’ve done the entire video & I’m sure he would’ve done great, I’m glad it was Emily. Also, I see Dbrand kept the white Joy-Cons for themselves.
Thats hoodie that you have is super cool looking, where did you get it?
"Oh... Hi"... It made me smile
I was pretty much the perfect demographic for this thing. I have a launch day switch that's seen it's share of wear and tear, and I play primarily in handheld mode. Such a good upgrade.
But is it really worth the extra $350 when you already own one? If you think about it, the value of electronics depreciate over time, but instead of bumping down the price of the og switch, they ask $50 more for the new one. I have a heavily used launch day switch too, but I still can't seem to justify buying the OLED one to replace it.
@@azin6732 That's entirely up to the individual I guess. I've got plenty of mileage out of my old Switch and more than gotten my money's worth. Also one of it's wear and tear issues was a blue smudge on the screen presumably caused by damage to the lcd panel. Could I have just figured out how to replace that part? Maybe. But I just took it as an excuse to splurge on a shiny new switch with a way better screen.
@@RainbowCornet Right, then you are part of the demographic. I was initially under the impression that by wear and tear you meant wear on the body. A blue smudge on the screen would really annoy the hell out of me lol
@@azin6732 If you already own a Switch, you can sell your old one for over $200, and you won't be paying $350. Plus, I got mine discounted to around $300 from Wal-Mart as well.
Remember to not sell your current system until after you've gotten the OLED version. Nintendo's kinda backwards when it comes to transferring your games from one console to another.
This is such a hard decision for me, I play my switch almost exclusively in handheld mode but I feel like nintendo is going to release another switch and I should just wait. But if they don't I'll wish I had bought one sooner and still be annoyed... I wish multiple versions of the same console wasn't a thing.
it hasnt been a year since the oled came out so dont worry
@@hellaboof9443 i already bought it, don't regret it.
@Alpha I got the oled too and I love it, no buyers remorse. I'm a little bummed cuz i recently found out i can plug my switch into the aux cord for my astro a50 base station so i play with it hooked to my pc screen now, still love the big screen on the go though.
@Alpha As for joycon drift it seems pretty hit or miss. I have a weird habit of flicking sticks of controllers around for no reason (some kinda OCD thing i guess?) but I haven't had my joycons drift at all. And I flick those things hard, been trying to stop but its just a weird habit lol.
@@sks220 drift happens more often because of time on the joysticks. But the case on the joycon also doesn't support the back of the joystick, which means overtime using the stick (or using the stick click a lot) can put stress on it and reduce the contact between the resistive element and the wiper.
I have a relevant question first. is the skin on the switch the original or is it the ultra matte?
8:54 he's not talking about the screen, he's talking about the LTTStore Mousepad :)
