I think nintendo is unlikely to mass ban people based on key usage because of how many false positives will likely get banned, people who buy legit second hand copies that have already been dumped.
As for the product, my biggest concern is the wear on the cartridge slot... The game selection procedure could easily cause you to cycle the slot mechanism dozens or hundreds of times more than you otherwise would have
I just got mine earlier today. I ripped a cartridge using the dumper, tested it on Yuzu, and tested it on the MIG Switch itself. It all works. I'm starting to now backup my collection so I can leave my physical copies at home while I go on trips. 48 games preserved in my library: forever physical, baby!
From what site did you order? I ordered a cartridge and a dumper from the mig switch site and it has been months with no update I'm considering contacting them to cancel my orders and if that doesn't work I will have to take it up with my bank
@@frankgarcia9045just wait patiently, itll come eventually trust me
@@frankgarcia9045 i did order 28/3 and still nothing
@frankgarcia9045 From the US MIGSwitch store. It took a while since the Dumper was on wave 1 and the Card itself was already on wave 2, but a few months later and it arrived.
@@Leoncroi so you have already received both the dumper and the cartridge? Well guess I’ll have to keep waiting… I ordered both but probably going to be a long time before I get them I’ll cancel them if another flash cartridge is introduced to the market I guess
I think it is safe to say that the Switch will eventually become fully opened a la DS flashcards. But right now, I honestly just wanted the MIG to come with the dumper so that I could have a full backup of my library, I'm not interested in the piracy aspect of the product, at least not for now. Having said that, I don't think we've seen the final form of the MIG Switch just yet, there will probably be other products or revisions with better quality of life features in the future. Right now though MIG sans dumper is utterly useless to me.
Thank you for the video explaining the product, brother. God bless you.
I think you're right! I'm sure this will open the floodgates for evolutions of this existing form-factor. Excited for what's to come!
Thanks for watching! 😊
Don't expect any big breakthroughs with this, it'll forever be at best inconvenient like the Sky3ds.
Remember that the mass banning doesn't happen until the issue became a common issue so for now you're okay. Nintendo will only mass ban if the situation got out of hands meaning if more people attempt that same situation. Another reason why they hadn't started the banning was cause it's not just the certificate that they look at but the connection location as well so even if you attempt it with the same certificate on different consoles and accounts, you're still using the same proxy connection (internet connection) and to them that means you're just testing a feature which hasn't violate anything illegal yet.
Hmm.. Yeah I guess after some research I couldn't find any definitive answers. If I was Nintendo "testing" dual cart certificates versus maliciously using dual cart certificates wouldn't be something to differentiate "wrong is wrong" if I was Nintendo.
Thanks for watching! 😊
@@ScatteredBrain Also they might not want the one off. they might trigger at 5 duplicates so they dont ban ppl who just happen to buy a ripped game.
Also they have Chinese SD cards already popping up with full cert dumps.
@westonhecker looks like you’ve helped me figure out a future video!
This will definitely get you banned if you're using pirated roms. When using your own dumped game on multiple consoles it might be fine, but I wouldn't rely on it. With a small amount of people using the same cartridge it might be fine because after all people might buy some card, dump it and sell it later and if Nintendo issues bans for this, that would screw the new original card owner aswell, who has not done anything wrong.
Great video! When I first heard about the mig I went looking for reviews. Several reviewers only speculated what could happen when playing online. You went out and did it! Thanks for putting your hardware, time, (and tastebuds) on the line to answer all the burning questions! For me, I’ll be holding out until cart dumping is more accessible. I’m sure we’ll probably hear more about the long term risks as well. Keep us updated!
Thanks for watching! 😊
I think most will just buy the games to clone them, then return them and the people who buy the games after them will end up with their switches banned 😕
I really hope not! I haven't been banned yet, but if LOTS of duplicate carts get flagged then we might have a BIG problem.
Thanks for watching!
suppose if someone was to share the same dump on switch no jb, if one played offline and other played online would they get banned?
what if someone was "renting" switch game, dump to pc then used an emu. would this affect the game after?
It happened to me (or at least it's what it seems like), i bought a used Link's Awakening hd from CEX and after playing the game for the first time, i updated the fw to 18.0, played again and a day later it gave me the error 2181-4008 "The use of online services on this console is currently restricted by Nintendo." So yeah, people now have to be very careful from who and where they get used copies from.
The funny thing is... This is good for Nintendo since people might buy more new games from retail stores insted of the used market because of fear of getting banned
@koriegrant3827 in that scenario I do think it’s highly unlikely since there’s nothing happening to “phone home” so that scenario should be fine - but there’s always a risk since there’s a lot of unknowns even after my testing. Those were my results as of now. But what happens when there are 10,000 MIG Switches in the world and everyone is doing this?
@@ScatteredBrain so hear me out then 😂 users may aswell hack there switch, put android on it, use yuzu emu and then they don’t have to worry about being banned ect
I’d only consider this if they fix the game cycling. Having to reinsert the cartridge each time you want to change games is too inconvenient and concerning for the longevity of the cartridge slot mechanism. If it at least had a button at the top of the cartridge to cycle through so it doesn’t need to be ejected constantly it would be more appealing.
Isn't that true with literally every other game format medium? I really don't think this is a problem we're able to avoid, digital-only consoles are the closest we have to solving it, but then we run into the issue of "Will I still own my games if the online service shuts down in the future?"
Yea I think the game cycling is unfortunately not very feasible if you planned to backup and carry around more than 10 or 15 games on the flash cart
Thanks for watching! 😊
At that point having to cycle through games like that is barely more convenient than just using a game card case
I think they sell a 3rd party accessory which connects to the back of the switch and lets you insert multiple cartridges. Additionally, with the push of a button, the accessory cycles through whatever carts you have inserted.
So if you combine the Mig switch with this accessory, you'll be able to cycle through the games inside that one cart without having to physically pop out the cart each time.
@@PrimeTFNo, with "normal" physical media you only have to swap once for every time you want to play a game.
With this one if you have 10 games on it for example, and are done playing game nr2 on the cart, and want to play game nr1, you have to cycle through the other 8 games on the cart by ejecting and re inserting it every time, so could be 8 "insertions" for 1 game selection
I have one, I jumped on it as soon as I saw it, didn't know you needed the dumper, so I'll just hold onto it.
Thanks! You answered to all my questions about this thing.
Thanks for watching! 😊
Good review and thanks for testing out online using the same cartridge.
Thanks for watching! 😊
Excellent video! My only concern is if Nintendo logs the reader speed of cartdrige, that with microSD is different from the original ones. It is the only verification that they can run (always talking about playing with your own games).
Without knowing for certain, my guess is that a cartridge speed couldn't be a reliable indicator for "legitimate" or "pirated" cartridges. Cartridge speeds probably have a variable read speeds especially depending on the state of the cartridge. If the cartridge contacts are degraded I'm sure that would take a bit longer. But even still there are probably other forms of verification Nintendo can check for legitimate cartridges.
Thanks for watching! 😊
@@ScatteredBrain you have a very good point on it. You have one new suscriber!

I just got an email saying they had some delays but shipments for the Flash Cart should be shipped soon
Thanks for the demo and info. I am still waiting for my order, oh well, this was very informative.
Depending on where you’ve got your pre-order in, you may want to check on their shipping timings!
Thanks for watching! 😊
hey some quick things that i think you may have covered but i may have missed, can you get downloaded games, also can you get update files, and can you get DLC files,
Ive seen a modded mig switch with a button at the top that allow games to be cycled without having to reinsert the mig switch over and over.
That's what I'm waiting for too👍, this one sucks if you already have a hacked system.
I had to dispute the charge for Mod My Hardware as well. My other issue is wear and tear on the cartridge slot, reinserting the Mig Switch multiple times to select a game is dubious
The worst part about the whole "reinsert over and over to cycle games" part is that we already have official support for multiple games to boot off the same cart without doing this. Idk how popular it was, but I never hear from people about how unique it was for Pikmin 1+2, a first party title, to have both games be launched off the same cart. Why couldn't MIG do the same?
Modded Hardware never sent me an email about the dumper not being included, despite preordering (Jan 3rd) before Scattered Brain (Jan 10th) and still haven’t received any sort of contact aside from the initial order confirmation.

@@ScatteredBrain I got my switch banned bro lol
It’s definitely a risk. Not sure what you did, but if you used game certificates that aren’t yours, yea that’ll be the risk
@@ScatteredBrain I was the first one in the world to get one and review it and I tested everything and anything on it so no surprise right lol
The sad part on migswitch are the scratches overtime
Those that use these to copy thier games and sell them is a double edge sword. That being you can also bann yourself when you load the same game. So it's in thei own interest not to do this as well.
I think its more tragic for some innocent person who doesn't even know what a flash cart is - but yea you're right. I mean there's also a chance someone doing this isn't even thinking about repercussions!
Thanks for watching! 😊
Probably not a good idea to ban, this forces the user to turn to piracy even more, you’re riding on the user wanting online multiplayer so bad they would buy new system but they would most likely just turn to online roms
I would wait until Nintendo moves on to the next console and they stop supporting software updates for the Switch. Safer that way.
Yep! There will always be a risk. I am guessing the Switch will live on for quite some time, even after Nintendo's next generation is released - but one day when those servers inevitably go offline, there'll be a little to no risk!
Thanks for watching! 😊
Nintendo would probably push out a firmware that monitors the order and frequency of how often a user inserts cartridges into their switch and use that plus the duplicate signatures as a way to identify mig switch owners.
I think Nintendo already has all of the capabilities to catch people abusing the MIG Switch because of those unique cartridge certificates - it’s just a matter of time until they truly act on it!
Thanks for watching! 😊
Bans usually happen in waves, could be weeks before a flag turns into a ban.
any sign of ban?
Hi! So, if I play only offline (p.e Hogwarts Legacy) and someone is also using the game (the same game with the original cartridge), the chances of getting banned (me or the other person) are almost to zero?
Probably. But who knows. Next time you sign onto WiFi and connect, will it start sharing information about your currently inserted cartridge? What about game downloads.
Hypothetically sure but this is new territory. Nothing is guaranteed!
Thanks for watching! 😊
@@ScatteredBrain Thanks! :)
Doesnt matter about the game being online or not. If your switch goes online it will upload your data. People frequently got banned with modded consoles from this. Your switch contains metadata about games played / serial numbers that it uploads regularly when online.
The error issue is due to identical certificates. Also, it's mathematically impossible to fake keys. You could self-sign, but that has its own set of issues and would likely still need a hacked switch. As for ban chance; there are a couple of reasons why Nintendo would not want to ban people in cases like this:
1. First and foremost, there is the first sale doctrine in the US. This states that you are free to use a physical product your purchase however you please after purchase. Technically, Nintendo could ban you from their servers, but it gets really deep into grey water, as if you personally are using two instances of the same copy, that doesn't actually violate any DMCA laws, at least to my knowledge. You are allowed one archival copy. To say nothing of the possibility of both switches utilizing the same copy simultaneously.
2. Legitimate users are not Nintendo's target. They want to ban pirated copies, pirates, and people who are likely to be abusive on their servers. Banning people who just use dumped carts doesn't really help them much, even if they don't want dump carts to be used. It just vilifies them and lends credibility to the people they're going after. At the end of the day, Nintendo needs good will among their users.
3. There is no way for Nintendo to distinguish the legitimate copies from the illegitimate, which can open up legal trouble if they ban someone for doing something they were not. This could even go so far as to cause punitive damages should the victim or victims feel so aggrieved as to push their luck.
4. Frankly, the most important reason, is that it's just not worth their time. There are people mass downloading files from their servers they don't have legal access to, and people changing their avatars to inappropriate photos. They've, for lack of other terms, got bigger fish to fry.
I feel like people are already bored of the MiG switch. Maybe it’s not having the impact Nintendo fears and the hackers/modders and social media celebrities that it would have.
Should I buy the mig switch from the official store or from the ali express dupes?
They’re all the same product. I can’t speak about any specific stores. I got mine off AliExpress and it shipped SUPER fast. There’s no OFFICIAL mig switch store though. So make sure you use a reputable store
12:47 Still waiting on the preorder...🙀
thats why im buying games right now before the stolen games are being returned and sold on the market.
Mine hasn’t arrived! 😢
Popping the cartridge in and out is a terrible drawback, one reason people want to store all their games in one place is to not wear out the contacts on their carts or the cart reader. This seems like it will cause excessive wear and tear, I would rather dump all my games to the internal MicroSD and just boot them from there
3 months ago, I orded this since it came out and have not received this any package. So most likely it is scam.
how did you ack a switch lite?
I picked up a Switch Lite with a mod chip from AliExpress! (Link in description)
Thanks for watching! 😊
Can it play rom hacks or mods for games?
As of now, it cannot.
keep popping out cards to change game? i wish there a better way.
SAME! But it's really not so bad. The cartridge slot is definitely built to be super sturdy and survive hundreds of thousands of cart swaps. But still, can be a pain if you've got a massive Switch library on the MIG Switch!
Thanks for watching! 😊
So can it run CFW without the need for modding the switch?
No
@@ScatteredBrain figured, damn
still waiting for mine
i ordered one without having a switch, but i do know someone who does
Playing online is the least of my problems, i have two switches
It’s not the number of switch devices you own. It’s the risk of losing access to your Nintendo account which is not necessarily tied to the device. It’s the account that’s tied to your digital purchases or digital redemptions
@@ScatteredBrain I hope anyone that reads this just has the brilliant idea of a burner account, I’ve bought many games more than once before, this would be no different
Can you do roms and emulators then?
This will only work for cartridge images. So hypothetically if someone can create fake certificates to certify dev versions of games, maybe it would be possible one day? But we are probably a bit of a ways off from that.
Thanks for watching! 😊
No. You can't really fake a certificate. These tools are ONLY useful for pirating games (and you might be taking a huge legal risk just talking about their existence). If you want to run homebrew, you need a software exploit, which this doesn't provide, and those also get patched fairly regularly. So you need a regular stream of software exploits, which requires hacking effort, and those exploits are a finite resource as there's only so many mistakes one can make (even with older consoles where the security was often a joke).
The days of unauthorized media giving you a beachhead to load homebrew software from died with the original Wii and how quickly the Datel Freeloader for it got broken with an update.
Innies & outties to get to the game you were playing is a no no but thanks for giving the full hands on experience.

Buy one and put it away until Nintendo cuts the switch loose.
Unbelievable people think something like this is legal. You can’t even use the thing the “intended” way without a second purchase of an entirely different product. Its intended purpose is piracy, the vast majority of people that buy this are just thieves that plan on returning their games and getting a refund while keeping the games.
That is a big assumption. I don’t disagree that there’s some concern of this - but I like to think the vast majority of people AREN’T thieves . Maybe that’s too much to ask though 😂
