between the 2 teams, the following bigs should be included, imo: Gobert, AD, Allen, Bam and Wemby. Chet would be a really close HM for me (i don't have a vote obviously, but you know what i mean).
my wing/guard considerations would probably include Caruso, D. White, Herb Jones, and then two out of three of Jaden McDaniels, Dort and Okoro.

I appreciate the love for SGA, but I've watched every second of every Thunder game. SGA is the 5th best defender on that team (Behind Dort, Chet, JDub and Cason Wallace) and there should be way more love for a guy like Dort who has been one of the best on ball defenders in the league since his rookie year. He doesn't get the recognition because of the lack of steals and blocks but he is a defensive menace when chasing around screens. He broke an NBA record last year with the most offensive fouls drawn being exclusively from illegal screens because teams can't get this guy off them! He's switchable because of his insane strength and lateral quickness. He was voted 2nd best on ball defender in the league by players in a poll and was mentioned by Luka and Dame as one of the toughest defenders in the league. Not to mention all of his clutch 1-on-1 defensive game winning stops against guys like Dame, Luka, Fox, Harden, Steph, and Kawhi to name a few. Give this man more love!

Wemby is all defensive 1st team. His DARKO D-DPM is insane (top 6 in league)and his defensive epm is 7th. His block to foul ratio is the best since Ben Wallace. He has only 9 games all season with 4+ fouls and as Nekias said he takes away a whole section of the court and the spurs are a top 7 defensive team when he is on the court. There is also great value when you average 4.7 stocks per game (Hakeem has the all time average of 4.8 stocks per game in a career, wemby will likely break that when his career is done).

Being overlooked for all defense (2 years in a row now) seems to be the weirdest thing that has begun to happen with the writers in this league
He doesn’t actually play defense. 2 years ago he was a good help defender but he doesn’t even do that now.
@@jbreezy519Giannis is almost never the primary defender, cause opponents don't want to attack where he is. Coaches know that Giannis is the best defender in Bucks, so they deliberately attack the other side. The attacker picks the defender via switches, and you can see in Bucks games that whenever Giannis is the primary defender, the attacker switches 90% of the time.
Now, if it was anyone else than Giannis, then they'd get away with it, but Giannis is agile enough to help. That's why he's known as a help defender. And Giannis averaging something more than a block and a steal is massive, considering there are few times in a total game that his side is being attacked. Anyone else wouldn't average more than half a block a game.
It's arguably his best season defensively but he's overlooked because of how bad the team defence was under AG

JJ that time-score-game situation point was very astute, if one is to get into stats, I am not sure how one would compute that for basketball, but for football (soccer), there is something called game state. It would be an interesting parameter to add to play evaluation.

but in February is average is:
10/3/2 on 35%FG and 34%3P
and in March is number are:

Superstar partnerships don’t always come easy in the NBA.
With two alpha personalities and different play styles, it can take time for players to gel on the court.
But for the Milwaukee Bucks’ Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo, their chemistry seems to be improving with each passing game.

Doc Rivers has done such a good job turning around Milwaukee that it's easy to forget that a few weeks ago everyone was bashing him.

KD should definitely get a look for all-defense. He's been an elite weak side rim protector and has been very good defending isos. Had to play some 5 this year too, and has held up well.

This discussion was maddening. The very idea that they can acknowledge that certain players can excel and still have a poor overall team defense seems to obliterate their criteria in the first place. Glossing over the objective defensive impact advantage bigs have? Only a singular big as an initial lock out of five?? FIVE small locks right after we free the shackles of having to shoehorn four guards in despite them not all being deserving? What is happening?

Gobert, Wembanyama, Allen, Davis, Adebayo. That’s first team full stop. If a guard sneaks onto first team then voters have absolutely no clue what they are talking about.
Giannis is a lock for sure, look at the Bucks with and without him
