- Today we will be doing a full floor plan replacement on my 1978 Datsun 280z. From cutting out the old rusty holey floor plan to plug and seam welding the brand new Klassic Fab floor pan and seat mounts.

Awesome video!! Found out yesterday one of my coworkers an old dude at home Depot has welding machines , property he said bring her over and work on it any time . We used to use weld plates welding thin steel building mezzanines doing iron work. This project of yours is great, I hope to build a rotisserie also for mine

Hey Brian. You're doing a great job and I'm really enjoying binge watching this build. One thing though, and I noticed it in the passenger side floor pan welding video too, but the seat rail measurements that you gave in millimeters are actually centimeters. The number 10 you are referencing us 10cm, or 100mm.
I know metric is not your thing though.

Great work so far! I am doing the EXACT same thing to my '71 240 and I am at more or less at the same stage as you are, so it's neat to see our progress in parallel. I've got a bit more rust repair as I had to do full rockers on both sides but I am taking some of your techniques and applying them. I know it's a ton of work to do both the car AND do the videos so just know that your efforts are appreciated!

@@BLOKgarage I plan on restoring it to as close as original as I can. It's got the original engine and transmission, so it is a good candidate. I bought another '71 that is really clean and has low miles but it had been hit pretty hard so it cant be repaired. I'm using it for donor parts.
You don't happen to have an extra roof that hasn't been cut for a sunroof on that donor?
@@BLOKgarage Actually I do. I live in Colorado so there is a little bit of light hail damage on the one I am keeping. I have not yet decided if I'm going to use the roof off of the donor. I just got back from my shop where I finshed pulling the frame straight and I just tacked in my frame rail caps. It took me like two days hammering my floors flat. I am lucky to have a frame machince to do the work on and under the car. But Im deffintely jealous of your routiserie especially after you fixed the weight placement. Next time I'll work on my 260Z will be fully welding in the frame rail caps from Bad Dog Parts from underneeath the car. keep hammering away at it brother and you will cherish the ride that much more.
I bet that frame machine helps a ton! The rotisserie was easy to build and definitely makes it easier to work underneath. I would hate to do this laying on my back. Share some pics/ vids of your car!
@@BLOKgarage I'm just releasing the series now. My video on using the pulling machine will be next I think the then then video showing my booger welds will be next. I had roughly 6in of welding experience before this so it's definitely a learning experience not a perfect weld job.

Welding is one of those things that you just gotta jump into to get better at it. I recommend practicing on some similar scrap metal until you feel comfortable and get the welder dialed in.
@@BLOKgarage my main issues are cleaning the metal enough to get good arcing
Metal prep is 90% of getting a good weld. You definitely want to focus on that. What are you using for a welder? MIG?
awesome progress, are you planning on redoing the inner or outer rockers? I know they like to rot, especially near the dog leg area.
I have replacement panels for the rear dogleg sections of the rockers. The rest seems to be fine except some behind where the front fenders bolt on. We'll see once I cut them open though.
