    If you have the 3G 6th Gen (mid 2014), use caution when removing the bezel along the top. There is a antenna there that is essentially foil in plastic tape and can be easily damaged during disassembly.

      @@ISI.O not away, but washed. I was at the beach and the waves got bigger. One of them hit the sand with such power that soaked everybody's towels, flip-flops, tents... And my Kindle was among these items

    Excellent video. You saved the day.. I needed help as I accidentally drop my kindle into the sink (doh!) and being fully submerged it filled with water. With your video, I was able to take it apart. dry it. I now have a fully working Kindle again. Big THANKS

    Big thanks on showing how to take the Paperwhite apart. My son's Paperwhite would not start and I know that I would need to disconnect the battery to get it restarted( just like my Samsung Galaxy 3, if anyone has the same problem with a Samsung Galaxy. The method to get to the Samsung battery is not exactly the same but close). Got to the battery, disconnected it for a few seconds, reconnected, put back together and now the Paperwhite turns on again.

    This is a huge improvement from the Kindle Touch that I had. Processor is definitely faster, which is fantastic since I used to get impatient waiting for the page to turn on the Touch.

    I have had this exact model and it has served me well for 8 years and still going strong! Lately one of the corners is starting to come apart probably due to the adhesive wearing out from age, what kind of adhesive can I use to re-secure the corner?

  • @TheGregcawthorne
    @TheGregcawthorne Před 11 lety +2

    Is there a certain type of adhesive you must use when putting the front panel back on? or will it still stick back on okay with the old adhesive?
    The screen on my kindle is slightly askew and I want to to fix it. Is there a way to adjust how it ir oriented in the case once it's apart?

    Great video, very clear, thank you. I was given a non-working Kindle, it won't show a light when chargiing, so I opened it up and found a ton of white corrosion buildup along the whole bottom of the unit. Do I need to reflow the power and data lines where the micro USB connector meets the m/b? For some reason it doesn't register a charge. I didn't open any of the 'cans' (metal covered sections), the water doesn't look like it got into them but I can't be sure. I could replace the m/b but I don't know if the power switch etc. need to be replaced as well. What do you think?

    • @PowerbookMedic
      @PowerbookMedic  Před 5 lety

      Sounds like it is liquid damaged. I'd try to clean the affected areas with alcohol. If that doesn't fix it you will need to replace components, but it probably isn't worth that on this unit.

    • @mscir
      @mscir Před 5 lety

      Thanks, I'll take the m/b out again and soak it in alcohol for a while then see what happens. Great videos, really well done - thank you.

    • @markdeitsch1946
      @markdeitsch1946 Před 6 lety

      You can buy e-ink display modules online and they'll either include or you'll have to buy a module to drive them. The driver modules are often run with an Arduino. I would look into that if you want a custom e-ink display as driving the display from a kindle with your own custom circuits would be nearly impossible, assuming Amazon used a proprietary interface to the display.

      By now it's too late - this is for future reference. Get some double-sided permanent tape. When I replaced my cracked screen, the replacement screen required adhesive. The old bezel might have some stickiness to it, but why not do it right? Great video, though! I've done two repairs and these videos are a great confidence-builder!

    Anyone know how to further disassemble the screen? That is, how to remove it from its frame assembly. I can't find any videos or guides on it, yet some stores sell just the screen without the frame assembly.

    • @xiangxu
      @xiangxu Před 6 lety

      The screen is firmly glued to the mid-frame. It's quite impossible to remove the screen without damaging it. But if you want to replace a damaged screen, that's not a concern. Just go ahead and break the old screen. Hot air blower helps to certain degree.

    Start at the bottom or bottom corner. For sure not the top. The top has that adhesive strip so it is attached much tighter. I found the plastic tool useless. Instead a tool like in this video.
