As you are aiming at having the property mortgageable theres no point worrying about the smell, damp and missing ceilings. The first job is repairing the roof. Don't get caught up in replacing them for now. Slate roofs are easy enough to work on with the appropriate scaffolding/ towers. Just repair as necessary for now and identify for the future where you'll need to spend money. Good luck.
Brand new viewer, and you are doing what I have dreamed about for years. Looking forward to see where you start first. The roof I hope. Best of luck
Yes absolutely! The Roof Autopsy is complete (video soon!) and the roofer is ready to go! (a good thing, because it has rained all day, and it literally comes through two storeys to flood the downstairs...)
To be honest, once you get the roof sorted and rip down all the wet/mouldy stuff so u can see what you are working with, it will all seem so much better. It is one hell of a project but take your time, record what you have achieved and, one day, you can look back with a huge sense of pride.
Wow, this property has so much character which may not be obvious immediately. It won’t be easy but you will make it a pleasant place to live in. I admire your courage and envy you to have been able to make such a decision. 😮❤😮 … all the best and keep us posted.
What a property to recover!
A weather protective enclosure asap added below items
- A lot of fans to circulate air to dry things
- Big silica gel packets every room
- Clear mold from air (e.g. hepa filters...)
First of all wow!! What a house, absolutely beautiful despite all the problems. It’s a stunner. I’m so jealous. I must admit I resonated with your “mate, what the f have we done?!” Once we’d finally completed on our place after a 6 months sale process and flew over to Ireland to start clearing the house….that was our exact words as we walked around for the first since owning it! And yes…the smell…it’s another level isn’t it?! You’ve probably already done bits and pieces now so I will continue on and watch the rest of the videos, but it does eventually get better once all the nasty is cleared and dried out. Oooh also we had a range here, an ancient Stanley range, and although on its last legs, it has dried the house a treat if you still have the aga and it’s safe to use fire her up to help dry the place out.
Anyway absolutely love your style of video and how much you explain it all and off to watch the rest. 😊 and also good luck with it all.
the bones of the house look amazing, don't give up hope, you are young, I see an amazing home in the future.
Slightly terrified for you, but we know you'll pour your heart and soul into it. It will be spectacular in the end. You don't know how to give up. I love your persevering spirit.
I’m glad it’s not just me Alisha! On the other hand, we’re in too deep and there no turning back now 🤓
Nice to find a brave couple doing this in the UK, its normally, USA or Portugal. Really wish you all the luck in the world, Knock it down, or Fix it up, either way it's going to be a super ride.
That piece of £800 furniture back in 1982 would cost £4k in todays money! That was a lot back then!
Great content! You two are super funny and not sarcastic at all
I love the kitchen. Get the Aga electrically checked, I am sure It will be fine. Just get the place wind and water tight and you can do a room at a time so you are not overwhelmed. I am looking forward to seeing more of your renovations.
Oh this is going to be such an adventure! I love it! You guys will be able to bring it back I'm sure, and you have so many beautiful windows!! Don't be sad Jess it's going to be amazing!
I hope so, it's really sad to see it all look so mouldy and wet though!
Enjoyed this refreshing vid. Most people would run a mile, however that’s coz they weren’t meant to have this place. If it was easy, everyone would be chomping at the bit! Any project like this will take time, money and energy. You guys sound like you’re up for it. Following…. And best wishes👍
Was drawn in by the thumbnail, stayed and enjoyed the video. Didn't really notice the swearing tbh! I love a good project so I will watch and subscribe. Good for you for having the guts to take on something like this, ignore the negative comments, your channel your rules. If people don't like it there's plenty of others to watch. Genuinely guys, I wish you all the luck in the world and I will definitely keep watching!
You guys this project is going to be amazing when you work your magic on it, absolutely cannot wait for the next episode to drop. 🧡🧡🧡
Ah thanks so much!! It's very daunting at the moment 🫣
I’m so excited to watch this adventure with you guys. I love your other channel so I’m sure this will be a gem. Take care!
I’m so jealous you have an indoor pool! 😂 Got a lump in my throat when Dan got all emotional 🥹❤️ Going to be stunning when your finished! 🤩
I know right?! Who knew it would be so simple to install 🤣🤣🤣
He surprised himself with that moment, and now laught at himself 🧐
First thing first you need a new roof the sooner you stop the water getting the better and the inside repairs will cost a lot less. Lot of pluses love the house and your diy skills are going to inprove loads. All the best and dont worry to much.❤
OMG. I am so glad this came up on my CZcams suggestions. To be able to follow a channel from the start without having to catch up on a hundred or more older posts. The house looks amazing. Looking forward to seeing this place progress. Good luck and best wishes to you both xx
Im looking forward to following your progress renovating the farmhouse
What an exciting adventure. Such a massive task. Looking forward to seeing how it goes.
Love the expressive language 😅, start the Playlist!!! Can't wait to follow along, I'm sure it's going to be beautiful, but OMG in the mean time.😂😂😂
It’s a very nice property. Aside from the disrepair, it has wonderful architecture.
I agree, I really love it. Though I don't think I'd have popped a flat roof on such a beautiful old building - it feels so wrong! We'll hopefully bring it back and retain as much as possible!
Amazing project! Look forward to watching the transformation
looks amazing. bet the dogs will love the freedom. hope you manage to fix it up.
Fantastic!!!... Cant wait to see how you all progress and grow with the farm/buildings and create a successful business in the future.. Good Luck folks...:)
Definitely looking forward to see what you do with this farm! What a journey ahead for you.
Thanks for your support!
Omg my dream place to start a life. All the best
That Aga is wonderful, proper solid fuel agas are rare in this day and age, and not in the slightest a fire risk so long as the flue is clear and the insulation inside the actual Aga is maintained. There are several companies across the UK that can restore it for you if you don't want to do it yourself.
It's converted, so sadly no longer solid fuel safe as far as we know 😔
@@sht-farmYou can convert back to coal, make sure you use smokeless or anthracite.
An Aga is an amazing asset, keeps the house warm. Constantly. You will need it.
Keep the Aga, you’ve got the space and as other have said they are a really good heat source. Just make sure it’s using the right fuel type. Longer term if you put some generation on the farm then it could be converted to electric…! As others have said #1 is ge the roof fixed. I would suggest that you are probably looking at a full rewire so every wall might as well be taken back to brick, pull down every ceiling so you can check the joists etc… Just learn to do the roofs and basics of the walls yourself!! You will learn so many new skills!!!!
Wow! I was afraid all the fun work would be done by the time I got to the UK...I'm thinking not so much lol. What a great project!!!
I have 1 spare bed and lots of gin, whiskey, vodka, wine. All welcome in exchange for manual labour 🤣
I'm fine with a tent and a sleeping bag lol
@@sht-farm
Patch the roof clear the gutters get the aga going to start drying everything out and you’re on a winner fabulous property ,could do without the language though! Good luck
delighted to join your journey.. grew up on a farm in Wales and always planned to get one up here. Best of luck to youz
Wow just came across this channel. What a journey you’re going to go on. Lovely to see you rescue such a lovely house and farm. Will subscribe and follow along.
Wow, just wow!! Wishing you all the best! Knowing you, it will all come together beautifully...ok, with maybe a few hitches and bumps in the road! But a labor of love and it will show!!
Thank you Lynn!
Not the dead bird 🤣I'm already heavily invested in this and the first video didn't disappoint. Can't wait to see more. Thanks so much for bringing us all along with you.
Jeremy. RIP 🤣
Can't wait to follow this adventure!! :) Good luck guys!
Thank you so much for your support!
What a great house I love it first thing first waterproof the roof then the rest is easy.
You don't no how lucky you are it's a great property
can't wait to see what you do with the place, good luck, i know you can do it!!
Thank you so much for your support!
Oh, wow! That is going to look amazing when you guys are done! I am looking forward to seeing more of the property as that is the most exciting, all that room for the dogs and Tuna!
We’re definitely not short of space, it’s how we can use it best that is still a bit unknown!
Lots of money and hard work needed but it could be a beautiful home. Good luck!
Ey up.
Well, that was a cultural experience 😊
From a Tyke who made the journey North fotty odd years ago, when Geoff Boycott got his hundredth hundred to be precise, welcome to this great country. I’ll be following your journey as a subscriber.
Arra best, from Broughty Ferry.
Wow! What a great place. Get the roof sorted!!!!! Quietly progress from there. Fantastic project, enjoy the journey,it’s going to be a long one but worth it! New viewer, subscribed and will eagerly watch your progress, language an all! 🤣
It looks lovely guys, don’t despair, although you may need a new roof😅
Love this, showing the real moments! real feelings!!
I’m yet to cry on camera here, but I’d say we’re about 4 weeks off that 🤣
hey you just came up in mt suggested videos farm looks a big job , looking forward to seeing you guys turn it into an amazing home
Congratulations!!! So excited for you two and the four leg-geds. It looks daunting now, but I have faith it will be absolutely fantastic when you're done.😃🔨🖌
I might need a motivational rap after a few months Cheryl, so prepare your lyrics for a commission ❤️
With such a good foundation building, it seems well worth fixing. Roof first, then it can dry out and you can begin dismantling. Keep windows open so you can breathe. Cold air or not. Best wishes.
all the best for the project
I’m looking forward to following your journey from California, USA. I follow Dalscone Farm, (here on CZcams, but mostly on Facebook live streams), which is there in Dumfries. Probably why this popped up for me. 😃 What a beautiful location, and ambitious undertaking. Wishing you all the best!
What a beautiful house! I can see past all of the issues, you will smash them out. I personally would keep the aga even if just for decorative purposes, it just looks right in the kitchen and id love chunky wood window sills but I am excited to stalk your progress and live my dream through you. Its going to be hard work and very expensive but at the end what an incredible house, land and area to live in. Good luck! ❤
Omg! This is my dream!!!! I don’t think I can imagine how wonderful that place will be! 😍😍😍😍 I’m scared for you! 😅
Mine too Maria! I think I'll calm down when we have works underway, but I'm getting more nervous every day that passes!!
Oh my god the giant Red Nose Day sticker has me creased, so so excited to follow your journey though Jess and Dan!! It's such an awesome place and I have every confidence all your hard work that's to come will pay off ❤
I really hope so!!!
Frightening maybe BUT so exciting the potential there is enormous, many videos on here to draw inspiration from if you need it. Looking forward to following your journey immensely. Best wishes from Aberdeenshire!!!
Thank you so much for the support! Best wishes back to you!
You are such an inspiration, amazing! We went through a really tough patch last year, we lost our farmland and ended up renting a really rundown patch of land. Its nothing like what you have but creating the videos is spurring us on and keeping us going. One day, you never know but we might be in a position to have a farm again. We can only live in hope.
Good luck to you guys!
Hey, love this first video and I’m sold. I have an aga that came with the house. Yours looks the same as mine which was previously a coal fired and then retrofitted to take oil. They are expensive. We lit ours in excitement with 500l of oil for Christmas. It lasted a month on the lowest setting. Gas man said it’s a glorified radiator and it did heat the coldest room of the house.
Good luck 😊
Oh my, I’ve stopped this to rewind and watch tomorrow!!
Hope you enjoy it!
I like the sense of humour of yours
OMG, your crazy but wishing you both the best of luck and I cannot wait to see the transformation ;)
Thank you so much ❤️
Great video
Thanks so much for your support! Let us know your thoughts on everything in the comments below ⬇⬇
Hi lovely farm is there another video before this one explaining how you aquired it and what the sellers conditions/stipulations are
Is there also an estate agent site for this type of thing please
@ronniebiggs4225 I was thinking the same thing too!
Don't scrap the Aga. Dealers pay good money for them and restore them. We sold my Grandads Rayburn.
Get the roof sorted and a dehumidifier in there to pull all the moisture out . You'll be emptying a few times a day at first but will be worth it.
You have some amazing views.
Don't delay. Get that roof sorted as quickly as possible to stop further ingress of rain-water. And get those saturated ceilings down so no one gets hurt from falling debris. Hard hats and masks essential whilst you are doing all this work.
You have the basis of a lovely home when all the necessary work is completed.
Well to my mind if you’re going to give the farm a go your priority is sorting the roof. Best of luck with the project.👍👍
Great video, keep it up
I don't envy you all the work but can't wait to see what it turns into!
Pahah, I hope we can complete it!
I just found you all. I love watching folks remodel their home. And swear words don't both this old Granny. Family life and chaos on the farm and ranch cold make a choir of angels want to cuss. Dont bother me none.
Oh my Jess - goood luck xxxxxx We just took the roof off our farmhouse during this winter and that nearly finished me off, but it will be amazing when it is done - can't wait to follow your journey. I'd love to do it if i was brave enough xxxx
It's awful isn't it. It rained all day today and I stood in the main house and watched the water drop through two storeys to flood the downstairs. It broke my heart - I want to save this house!
What a great deal you have, I would fix or replace the roof and gut the house of all the plaster back to brick let it dry out and re plaster most of the place from brick maybe new windows as well but all in all a great project
Well when you first mentioned that you were thinking of buying a farm in Scotland, this wasn't quite what I imagined. But knowing what you & Dan are like when you start something, the farm will be transformed and will become a sight to behold.
Give us 20 years and we might just be nearly finished (only to probably have to start all over again!)
Congratulations guys, gonna follow your journey on this for sure. Amazing place and really hope it works out for you. Not sure what they were thinking on that wallpaper though, the Rugrats room was a welcome relief 😀 best of luck
Thank you Peter! A bit different from your locale, but perhaps we'll get some charm back in here at some point!
This is great, excited to follow your journey! 🙌 We've been renovating our Barn but think you have a bigger project 😂
Seems like a really risky deal. 2 years work before you can even try and buy it! What if the present owner kicks the bucket and his next of kin sell it from under you. I hope you have a watertight contract for this unusual deal? Good luck!
Good Luck
Right as a builder work on the following priorities;
Fix the roof leaks incl guttering - make it water tight!
New windows
New plumbing
New electrics
Then think about replastering, decs and finishes.
DONT be tempted to spend any money on anything pretty without addressing the cause of the damp and water ingress 👍
Go for it, it has huge potential 😎👍
What an exciting journey! I’m right at the same stage except I got a mortgage on my place! Best of luck again!
Oh how wonderful well done!
Jus found your channel and looking forward to watching the progress and antics as you both get it done. Can't help thinking I recognise the farm for some reason.
It was on Rightmove for over a year, so perhaps there? I haven’t found any photos of it anywhere else (yet!) but I keep trying. There was a painting of it inside when we viewed it but that’s gone too. The painting was of the house decades ago, and it had a pond and all sorts. I’d love to know the window style to replace them like for like for example 🤓
@@sht-farm may well have been but I am sure I have been to the farm during an 11 year spell as a courier driver. It just looked familair straight away. But I cant tell how much I look forward to watching the progress you both make over the coming weeks months and even years. Keep the channel and relaxed but WTF did we do mindset it will make a smashin watch so it will
I don’t know how your channel came up but I love your farm , I can only see positives in the big house , it’s gonna be amazing if/when you get it sorted , I’ll certainly be following your journey, your gonna have some great content as far as I can see,,you’ve got 1 new subscriber at least 😂
Keep it up ❤
Great video Graham and Sophie. Knowing you like I do I’m sure your going to make a successful business out of this farm Allllll the very best Ian I’ve 👍&subscribbled
I’m not sure who Graham and Sophie are, but thank you nonetheless 🙏
Getting a new place that needs a ton of renovation work is rough but you'll get there, the best place to start is the rooms that are easiest and dooring off the parts of the house that are in less good condition until you get to them, mold removal, sealing off the damp and dehumidifying should be a priority
What did you pay, where is it and how many acres. I am a farmer and grower of many years standing, so my advise too you is. Leave the big house untill last. Sort out the land and out buildings first. Once the farm is running you can then spend time on re-building the main house. The only areas of Scotland I would buy a farm is Dunfries and Galloway as best climate in Scotland, Mull of Kintyre and Perthshire.Good luck. I'm from Gods county but moved to Portugal as the price of land here is a fraction of the U.K. and much better weather. Yes it would be much cheaper to use the bulldozer and start again. If you need some advice or help, please don't be afraid too ask.
Fair play 👏🤝
Don't be too hasty with the AGA. If after living with it for a while, and you still aren't a fan, they sell real well.
The love for Agatha is real, we'll try to salvage her if we can!
One day in time you will look back and say,WE DID THIS!! You are young, and while ever you're sleeping time is good, you will find the strength to do it.🏡✅👍
Shit. That's a lot of mould! On the bright side, it's got masses of history and character.... Deep breaths (or shallow, cause mould spores...) you got this. It's gonna be soooo amazing! 😊❤
🤣🤣 *shallow breaths* I love it!
Good luck great challenge but it's going to be worth it
A good demolition and rebuilding project you've got your hands on there 😂😂
Love the bad language. It shows honesty and believability to the stresses and strains of life. Good on you! I for one will keep watching
Thanks so much for your support 🙏
You’ve got your hands full there! On the plus side, the rainy season is due to take its month off soon 😂
When though Joe… August 2027? 🤣 she’ll come right!
good luck
Wow! Good luck but it will be awesome! 😊
Thank you so much for your support!
Hi! good luck on your mission. I enjoyed your video . looks like a roof is the most important issue . you can kill mold with a bleach and water solution in a pump sprayer ,have fun!
Thanks so much for your support!
I can already imagine Dan's head hitting door frames and ceiling lights, hahaha. This is a very nice project that will take its time, but once you finished it you won't believe that you had the courage and patience to do it, and all will pay off. Remain strong!!! you both can do it!!!! you can take MTogs as volunteers to help in exchange of some mini training session hahahah. Stay safe you two!
Thank you Ainoa ❤️ You will have to come visit one day, you and I can hide in the small spaces that Dan can't fit into 🤣
ur success is based on how much RESEARCH you did.
What's happening with Jeremy 😂😂😂
Good luck with this project, you'll do a fantastic job of it, I'm sure 💪
I don't even know what to do with Jeremy. I have no idea how he even got in there!
Just found you guys and subscribed! What we have wanted to do for awhile. Could you tell us more about how your two year deal and how you found the property? Look forward to seeing more great videos! 😅
I just found this page, can't wait to see what you do with the farm. I also watch "kinging it" on youtube and they just bought a farm too i think they're on eastern side near Perth. Not sure where ya'll are. I watch 2 other Scottish channels, one is "the Scottish isle", (they live alone on an island in the heberdies) and the other is "living the Skye life" (obviously they live on skye) I just subscribed to you too.
We're south west Scotland, so so a bit more temperate than the others here! I think kinging it are in a forest hideaway and it looks LUSH up there, we're more in the lowlands (ish) so less dramatic scenery but still pretty I think!
Ah I come from. AYRSHIRE though living in Stirling now..I was trying to work out the area though I suppose for security you can't reveal the exact spot..just discovered you, and I thought great what a project to follow..the best of luck ever
Ps. If it is south Ayrshire, yes pretty and mostly unspoilt
Just stumbled across you guys! Love the dream! If I can ever help just let me know! 🎉❤
We’re about in Scotland is the farm looks like the one down the road
Are the Wood Pannels folding shutters for the windows? A typical Scottish solution to winter! 😄
7:10 "How many families..." "DIED".... OMG Dan 🤣🤣
Speaks the truth 😬
At last something different,, I think I’m going to enjoy watching your journey, and if you feel like swearing, swear, your channel, your story,,,, love from Australia
