  • Welcome to our new smallholding in North Wales, UK! Take a first look here in our first video ever as we chat about our plans for our new life in the countryside.
    We moved here from the south coast of England, from our city centre terrace. Now we live here in rural north west Wales on the Llyn Peninsula on our 2 and a half acre smallholding.

    Hey guys, just found your channel. We too are starting out on a smallholding journey up in the highlands of scotland.
    Your land looks great, what a fab plot.
    As for your horse rink area it would make a great hardstanding for a large polytunnel. We have just built a huge twinwall polycarbonate polytunnel which has been designed to be super strong in high winds, happy to share photos if you need inspiration. We are hoping to setup a yourube channel next year to share our own journey

    • @wildandplenty
      @wildandplenty  Před 5 měsíci

      Ooo yes I do worry that the wind would just be too much up there - would love to see some photos if you don't mind!

      Absolutely - the house is small but we really don't miss the space when we've got the outbuildings. They're proving very handy! Thanks so much 😊

    7 months behind, having just discovered the channel, but the flat surface used for horses would have been perfect to erect a huge polytunnel for growing food year round. Curious to jump ahead and see what you've done!

      Ah thanks for being here! Love the idea - I'm worried about wind up there. Its the highest point on our plot and if you watch any more of my videos on here you'll see we get a significant amount of wind...

  • @thisorthat7626
    @thisorthat7626 Před 5 měsíci +1

    You have nice flat land with outbuildings that will be very valuable. I think your plans are excellent. One question, why are the chickens so far from the house? Perhaps you should move them up closer to the house in the narrow field. If you get the right breeds, they aren’t noisy. And it is much easier to keep an eye on them if they are closer to the house.
    I will watch other videos to see what you have done. With the wind, planting windbreaks will certainly help and make your land more enjoyable. Cheers.

    • @deborahhobsonwasdubber2405
      @deborahhobsonwasdubber2405 Před 5 měsíci +1

      I was thinking the same about the chickens.

    • @wildandplenty
      @wildandplenty  Před 5 měsíci +2

      Interesting thought on the chickens. We decided on that spot because its the most protected spot from the wind and its the only field with good fencing. The fences would need replacing in the skinny field and paying for that in the early days wasn't appealing! Not worried about the noise - mine are chatty but I kinda like it XD
      Kicking myself for not planting windbreaks sooner - my garden suffered for it last year. Lesson learned!
      Thanks for the comments. Please do share your thoughts on other videos :)

      My personal thought was being further away from the house the worry of fox attacks and maybe not hearing an attack also in bad weather it looks a bit of a way to go, distance isn't always easy to measure in a video. I wish you well, it's our dream to live this life at the moment we have taken on an allotment till we are 🤞🏼able to find somewhere to live the dream. Happy New Year ❤

    Just found your channel! You’re doing amazingly. My wife and I are looking for a similar property. We are a bit new at the moment so are struggling to figure out what types of field care usable for our growing needs. Most properties seem to be classed as ‘Paddock’ and we have been a bit uncertain if we can use them for growing.

    • @wildandplenty
      @wildandplenty  Před měsícem

      Thank you! Best of luck with your search.
      The fields that are now my food forest and veggie garden were almost definitely "paddocks"...

    Hi, looks great.
    The rubber on the field is probably shredded car tyres.
    They can be cancerogenic. Might be good to get rid of it ASAP.
    Specially if you thinking of growing food near by.
    Plot looks amazing though 😍

    • @wildandplenty
      @wildandplenty  Před 6 měsíci

      It is car tyres - I hadn't thought of the risk to my veg plot. Thank you for pointing that out!

    This is amazing!! I am definitely going to try and manifest this for myself!! I’ve always wanted a small holding, a little veggie farm and a few chickens & ducks. How many acres do you have? 😍

    • @wildandplenty

    Just stumbled upon your channel and subscribed! The reason I am interested is that we plan to follow in your footsteps in about two years. We are going to buy a place with our daughter and son in law. I have an allotment channel and so work as a self employed gardener, so we have some experience! Love the tour, and your property is exactly what we are after. We will need a granny annex so we are not living on top of each other. Will watch your other videos to see your progress, but I had a couple of initial thoughts! Firstly, I would make some inquiries about stabling other people’s horses, as an income stream. The facilities are all there. Secondly, I think you will need to enclose your food production area to keep wildlife out. Thirdly - water supply is of paramount importance. I would consider investing in a large water tank feeding off the house gutters. You have gravity on your side! Even in Wales the summers are drying out! Good luck, and look forward to watching your lovely home progress. All the best, Martin.

    • @wildandplenty
      @wildandplenty  Před rokem

      Thanks, Martin! Really appreciate the advice. Will definitely be doing some water collection - thinking off the stables roof then it would be right by the veg garden. It's looking to be a dry one for us this year again so definitely worth prioritising!
      We have been approached about stabling horses so may be on the cards over the winter months.
      Best of luck with your property search! Sounds ideal to pitch in as a family. Let us know how it goes ☺️
      Sam
