I have the XGT backpack battery, and one big benefit I have found that is not mentioned in the video is that you can use tools that are hard on batteries without getting the battery smoking hot. The backpack doesn't struggle at all, to the extent that you need to pay attention to the tool temperatures instead.

They should make these adapters that just plug into a power socket. Would be very useful for a miter saw that has a place in the workshop, but sometimes also gets used outside or on the road. Use line power when it's available, use batteries when it isn't.
DeWalt does a lot of the corded/cordless stuff. Problem is, it’s really hard on the motor of a cordless tool to run it off AC power. I guess corded/cordless DeWalt miter saws were burning out simply from running off wall power, even though they were designed to.
Makita does have LED work lights that are both corded and cordless, however!
And the Hikoki/MetaboHPT rear handle circ saw has a battery adapter, that’s basically a battery housing with a cord sticking out that you can plug into the wall. Don’t know if that adapter works for all their “multi volt” battery powered tools
Metabo HPR/Hikoki has had that tech out for 6+ yrs
The other companies just want us to buy a s#1t ton of batteries

@@baseballdude8491 When I saw the thumbnail I thought Makita was going to jump on the bandwagon... nope... in terms of the AC/DC thing, rectifier diode circuit and some regulators to clean up the noise throws that concern in the mud anyhow. They want more battery purchases, meanwhile people just buy knockoffs and/or repair their own cells because of the ridic battery marketing where they would otherwise buy more tools!! Don't have too many invested into the 40v line buy I may very well create my own solution since 3d printing/circuit fab is so easily outsourced anyway.
When I saw the the thumbnail I thought Makita had finally brought out an "AC-to-battery-tool-adapter". But soon I realized that they did not. :-(

Have they come out with mains power converters for those adapters yet? I love having the portability of battery tools but sometimes it would be nice to just plug them into the wall when mains power is available and not have to worry about batteries.
Would be great for something like the battery mitre saws where you can have it hooked up to the mains while in the workshop but then have the option of portability.
That is one of the reasons why I bought into the Hikoki/Metabo HPT platform, but the ac adapter is seriously overpriced here in Australia, much better value in the US
@@-opus Yeah pricing is a bit over the top , in Finland €260 ... sometimes its been on sale for €160 ... its like there is some air in that list price .
@@pete_lind $399AUD in Australia which = 237 euro / $256USD, but a quick online search sees it available for $125USD in the US, less than 1/2 of the European and Australian prices. I contacted Hikoki Japan about their obviously dodgy distributor/markup here but they never responded. Cordless tools, batteries etc never seem to go on sale in Australia, unless they are on clearance. There are just some times during the year they are better to buy due to different bonuses (usually a free battery if you spend over a certain amount).

I WAS EXPECTING a option so you connect to AC as Makita only do brushless tools on with batteries. For example many times a mitersaw is in a fixed place and would do well using AC but there is no corded miter saw that is brushless!!
The mitre saw that even Dewalt tell you not to use the adapter on as they keep blowing up the motors in those saws.
I have the 40V hedge trimmer that gets extensive use and I really love it. I had been thinking that a power pack would be cool, but I would want one that gets wired directly to the tool without needing to have a battery in the tool to connect to the pack. The battery on a hedge trimmer does add appreciable weight to the device, particularly noticeable when extending arms at times where a wide hedge requires a long reach, sometimes even one handed) and being able to eliminate the attached battery weight by a direct connect to a battery pack makes a lot of sense to me. Actually, I get quite good usage time from my 40V batteries with the hedge trimmer, so even a single battery that could clip to my belt and then attach directly to the trimmer with a wire, would be great. I can pretty much get a whole day usage from two batteries with the trimmer.

I own the 18v one and I love it
I worked with pdc01 at first I used it with 18v angle grinders and trim router in my router table, got pretty much good runtime with it. when I switched to 40v I pretty much used it with grinders and blower(that one cooked my 18v batteries smoking hot). Now that I have 5 and 8ah batteries it become pretty useless to me so I sold it, don't regret it, was fun to use. If it had 8 slots for batteries it would be quite different story.
That's a pretty cool set up for out door power equipment suppose it would be handy for some construction projects

About AC/DC adapters:
- For 18V LXT platform: Klauke NG2 (Henco M-TRANS03) 18V LXT AC/DC Power Adapter (normally for Axial & Radial Crimpers). Be careful, like Hikoki ET36AW0Z AC/DC adapter, duty cycle is low. It is not possible to use a tool continuously.
- For 40Vmax XGT platform: Patent JP2021094673A published in 2021-06-24. Since then, no more information 😪
P.S. : strongly a review of PDC1200 Backpack battery on GA038GZ 40Vmax XGT 230mm Angle Grinder. 😵💫

An Amazon seller made a boo boo back in January and were selling the PDC01 for $270, and they now are selling it on amazon USA for $300, still $369 less than anywhere else.
I snagged one back then and its awesome. I havent gotten to use it a ton, but its awesome to see it finally reviewed. Theres not many good reviews out there about it.
Depending on how old the miter saw is (before 2018), it may have a tab that prevents the 36v adapter from clicking in to either side of the 36v (mine does) so i just put one battery in the one side and the power pack in the other, so that way i only have to charge one battery at a time if need be.
I wish it came with a longer cord so I can use it on my x4 battery mower. I have had the pack for a while now I use it with my multi function power head and 36v blower.

I have two of the xgt style backpacks.
Time is more important then money. You eventually make up for the cost of the battery packs by working more efficiently and fumbling to change your batteries.
You do feel a bit like an idiot wearing it for the first time. But you eventually get use to it.

The big battery being able to connect to big machines is actually quite nice. That could convert some pros that don’t switch to electric because of runtime.

Thanks for the link - that's the cheapest I've ever seen the PDC01 being sold for in the US - almost makes me wonder if it's going to be discontinued in the US as well.
Now if Makita would only release their 50L larger cooler in the US ...could really make use of that with either of these battery packs for extended camping trips, or moving frozen goods long distances. Would love to have some sort of active cooler for when I buy specialty meats/brats from a butcher in my hometown (when I go visit family) and then drive the 16-ish hours back home....
Let's face it; Everyone clicked because they thought it was about an AC - battery adapter.
Realised that I posted a stupid question previously about the PDC01, of course it can't charge batteries as there is no charging port. Shame as it would be a great way to run tools from AC, just acting as a buffer and recharging the batteries as it uses them. Removes the issue of having to have a big transformer to handle the big DC current some tools draw.
One thing I'm interested in with this is how it handles 'dumb' tools like the LED torches, they're known to push the battery voltage low as they don't necessarily shut off when they should. I guess this pack has its own set 'dead' voltage for batteries before it switches to the next one and therefore a good way to protect batteries. Tempted to invest in one as the prices in the UK seem decent, with a good discount code the PDC01 and all adapters works out cheaper than two 5Ah XGT batteries and a charger.

From the thumbnail I thought this was going to be an AC adaptor and I was all ready to write how I would only use that after I run out of batteries. Putting a cord on a cordless tool is a bit backwards to me.
But these backpacks I would probably never use myself. I much rather have more batteries and change them out when they're empty than carry a backpack on my back. The one tool I have where it's noticable that I would like a longer run time is the chainsaw. And there is no way I would carry a backpack while using a chainsaw. Also the big 1200wh pack is going against the one battery fits all tools mindset that I like.
Having said all that, I do see that there are professions where these are very useful.
Think of it backwards. It's a corded tool, that you can make cordless when you need.

Does anyone know if it's possible to rework the wiring in the pdc01 to power the new 80v xgt tools?
No issues running the saw off the battery pack as the nominal voltage of XGT is 36v. What's confusing is why Makita label them as Max voltage in New Zealand, other brands have to use the nominal voltage - for example Dewalt USA 20v / NZ 18v, Husqvarna USA 40v / NZ 36v, even Stanley have to label there V20 system in NZ as 18volt.
Makita have 3 36volt systems. Bit confusing if they called them all 36v.
All 12v tools in NZ are 10.8v nominal.
A battery operated welder would be handy. Is there an increase in performance with the 1200 wh compared to a standard 40v battery? For example, cutting time with a saw or wind velocity with a blower?
This was tested in the video at 16:53. The answer is no, there isn't any difference because the pack supplies exactly the same type of power, it can just supply it for a longer amount of time.
I’d love to see some more testing on using the PDC01 with XGT, how does it affect the use of the tools? I know you showed the quick demonstration with the mitre saw (thank you) but could it run with high demand cuts/ rips on the 71/4 rear handle for example?
Because I’ll grab myself that PDC01 and the adapter before I switch to the new battery line if it’s comparable

Backpack battery, 6 hours of charging for 1-2 hours of work. 4-8 batteries for a shift landscape. Maybe finish charging 1 battery per charger before end of shift. That's a lot of charging time off work.

Now, all we need is an inverter to give us household current. Wait -- Makita is comingout with one.
That's the BAC01 -- pre-order for a princely $779 ... add the PDC01 battery bank ($699) and for a mere $147 you get the equivalent of the Milwaukee. Alas, the Milwaukee lists for $614, or less than half of the Makita assembly.
Plus, the Milwaukee will charge batteries when it's not being called upon to power things. The Makita doesn't.
Makita's specs do a better job of answering the one question we all have: Can I use this to keep my furnace running in a power outage? The answer is a clear "yes."
Milwaukee offers larger batteries -- all prices cited above do NOT include batteries -- but the reliability of the larger batteries has been questioned. Personally, I plan to use my existing (pre-charged) battery inventory to keep things running when the power fails.
Why an batteries instead of a generator? You keep it safely indoors; no fumes; no fuel to store.
Another gripe: Makita doesn't make any promises about the quality of the AC produced. If you're going to power electronics -- and newer furnaces have plenty of electronics -- the quality of the waveform matters. Milwaukee claims a true sine wave (DeWalt doesn't make a true sine wave}.
Thanks for the video. I would think in terms of popularity and number of sales it would be: an AC cord/mains adapter, a multiple battery pack (like that 36V) and finally the MX style brick pack in descending order.

I have not been able to find adapters from their batteries to Makita tools, but have had no trouble finding adapters from Makita batteries to Hikoki/Metabo HPT, and Ryobi tools. I believe this is due to Hikoki/Metabo HPT using multivolt batteries, and Ryobi having the most unusual battery design? No doubt the daft decision to use 2 names for different regions does not help my search either though.

Hikoki one is better I reckon as you don't need to buy all the adapters the one battery platform is sooo good. They are slowly increasing their range and they just make tools and not the other gimmicky stuff
Hikoki one is only 21Ah so considerably less. And I think you'll find Hikoki are jumping on the "gimmicky" bandwagon too.

I get angry enough when Ive seen the double blink of death on a normal 18/40 watt battery. Couldn't imagine seeing that death blink on the 1200 watt backpack.
Over the course of a few years. But I always have about a dozen or so batteries with me on jobsites. Some is just bad luck. Had 2 at diff times go bad within a month of brand new. Only counting the genuine Makita's, btw. Zero issues with XGT so far, but only been a year.@@shadygunshow

I bought that 1200wh battery and returned it the very next day I have a slope block 40 degrees in some areas I will end up on my back like turtle.
If you are carrying this backpack you might as well man upp and just use a fuel powered tool. Cheaper to buy no hassle with leads. Just a little heavier on the arms, bullshit idea, just release the new bat. Technology

Exactly right. This doesn't change run time at all. All it does is eliminate the need to stop and swap batteries out-and even then only for a little while.
