DeWalt tools for wood, for all else go Team Red! Not so sure that holds water these days, if it ever did. For years, nothing beat Milwaukee on drills and impacts. As a DIY, Fuel 12v would probably more than suffice for me.

Man, when these were announced I was very uninterested. The design isn't something that looked all that great to me, having the battery at the end of a cord. I don't have any issues with the ergonomics of my current cordless random orbit (Dewalt) sander. Majority of my time I'm sanding on top of something, and then a bit on the sides, but I've never had an issue with the weight. I switch between that and an also Dewalt cordless belt sander when I need a ton of material removed but not quite to the level to bring out the planer. Then you release this video, watching it in use, I can see the ergonomics argument. But that's not what really got me. Hot damn that thing can remove material. And that they will work with 3M's stupidly good Xtract Net discs which I do like a lot more than any belts I've found...now I want one of these things, damn it.

I work for a company that builds military aircraft. This company buys Milwaukee, DeWalt and Rigid all day long...in packs of 10 to be exact. I can tell you that these high priced brands are trash. I bought a Dewalt and the battery went out in about a month. Milwaukee batteries do NOT last long at all. AND Milwaukee makes a lot of seals for military aircraft and submarines. I own almost everything Ryobi. Their impacts have almost 1,200 release horsepower. BETTER than the expensive brands. DeWalt Nailers need to build up pressure to get the Nailer to make multiple hits. The Ryobi is so similar to the Rigid brand. BUT another thing that I like about RYOBI is how you can buy any of their replacement parts. I dropped their pole saw and BAM...there was a replacement casing at a great price....and it was easy to replace.

If someone absolutely needs a cordless kit, including the vac and AWS, I guess I get it. Seems a bit niche though. The hose going one direction and the power cord the other. I dunno man. I dunno.

17 minutes and its dead wow - May be 25 minutes if both batteries were fresh. The 230V version looks like it'll still be the best option for being able to be used through out the day, plus job site clean up at the end. (Some sites now requiring a vacuum for site clean up, instead of the traditional Brush and Shovel due to Dust hazards)

I’d like a blue tooth vac with a massive battery pack you have to run the vac tube to the tool why not run the power to. They have the power packs they have the vacs combine the two. Or have a bracket so the power pack can be clipped onto the vac. I connect my chop saw, plunge saw, sander, plainer basically all my carpentry tools to the vac. Have a word with Makita for us.

My 850 also changes speed without switching modes. I use the screw mode to screw in the terminals on outlets and sometimes it’ll randomly switch to speed 3 and completely strip out the screw and sometimes the threading of the receptacle. If you bang it on the ground it switches to the mode you need… til you drop it Had it for a full year. Kinda disappointed as it’s my first impact and my journeyman’s impact is about 3 years older than mine and his works with no problem

Thanks for the interesting review. I chose a Festool 150mm ETS EC (5mm stroke) over the Mirka because at that time 3 years ago, I heard Mirka had some quality control issues. That said, I wouldn't discount them for a 150mm with a 3mm stroke. Having a battery on a sander that is supposed to be light is a paradox, especially when using dust extraction. When you said you could sand your deck with it, I swear I heard dick 😄

I have the LXT version of this saw, with the 150 mm blade, its a shame that these, or the older ones arent made to use with the tracks. I had to cut lots of 3 mm sheets recently at all kinds of angles and made the sole fit onto the makita tracks

How loud are they? Could you use a db meter. I’m thinking of getting one

Are they going to release replacement pads like soft pads for rounded parts and hard pads for flat surfaces? Wonder if the Festool or Mirka pads might be compatible here as well, although most likely not.

This seems a bit of a marketing miss. You have the worst of both worlds: there is a cord to contend with and limited run duration due to it being battery powered. Cordless should equal convenience and mains should be all about unlimited run time, this fails on both and seems an odd choice from an excellent brand that usually gets their designs spot on.

If you want cordless, Bosch GEX. If you want corded, Mirka.

You can look at it that way or you can look as it not needing a wall plug and not having an extra 3 pounds on the main part of the tool. While I like the 40V grinder and 3/4 Impact the batteries do sometimes make getting into a place akward.

The cord is much shorter, so you aren't managing cords around the work area, potentially coming from a far away power source, just yourself. These will probably be niche though.

Nah it totally makes sense for this tool.

It seems as if Makita could have figured out how to have 1 sander do both 3mm and 5mm orbit with some sort of mechanical linkage. I know it's possible because I've got an old '80's Craftsman that you can change the orbit size on. I do like that they made the battery pretty much separate from the tool, but I have a hard enough time keeping my briches on. Last thing I need is a 5lb battery yanking em down. I guess you could find a way to route it back with the vacuum hose and stick it somewhere down the line and outta your way I bet it makes that tool super nice to use without having the weight of the battery added to it.

You can get a longer cable and put your battery near the vacuum

@@riba2233 they seem to already have a good length of cable. Can't remember how long he said they were or if he did, but I'd say they look like they're at least 6 foot (2 meters for you weirdos that use that other system of measurement).
