Glad to hear among early screeners that one of the consistent positives of the reviews of the first two Ahsoka episodes is Sabine.
She’s awesome!
The actress is great.
Her childhood must have been tough
being mandalorian, then the academy, then bounty hunter, THEN meet the ghost crew at 16. Its a lot, also it shows she is super smart
There were a few moments in season 4 of Rebels that could lend credence to the idea that Sabine is Force-sensitive. For example, when Ezra calls the wolves and they give everyone a ride through hyperspace or whatever, we hear the echo of many voices in some sort of Force-related vision. Sabine asks something like "Did anyone else hear those voices?" but no one else speaks up to agree with her. Zeb just says he has no idea what just happened. It's possible that Sabine could hear those echos that others did not due to being more attuned to the Force.
NO, I can't believe people are doing all this mental gymnastics to justify her randomly being" just force sensitive to be kind of a jedi" 😔😂
@@c.s3369"Mental gymnastics" = Reasons. Lol
@c.s3369 "Randomly" Like it or not, that's the path Dave wanted for the character. Because he liked the dynamic between Ahsoka and Sabine. Sabine walked away from being a Mandalorian and became a full on Rebel. Season 4 intentionally built up her bond with Ezra, and that became her new purpose to bring him back, no longer being a Rebel, which led to her wanting to be a Jedi. Don't know why people are whining so hard, Sabine is not force sensitive, Huyang acknowledged she was the worst Padawan in history, Sabine acknowledged she lacked the skill, despite many years of training. Kanan said all the way in Season 3 that not being mentally open to the Force closes ANYONE, force sensitives included from wielding it. Jedi being recruited as little kids catches them before reaching that phase. Sabine finding Ezra lifted that and allowed to her to utilize her years of training. Legends already long established that non force sensitives through many years of practice and extreme discipline attain at least a minimal degree of force wielding. People whining about "Oh they want an agenda, oh Sabine was already great" Yeah idiots, no one writes a story to tell a social narrative, this is what Filoni believes is a good next step for the character like it or not, just like he thought Trials of the Darksaber was good for her.
"Hmm. Sabine, you're sounding more like a Jedi than a Mandalorian." - Hera, S2E13
@@c.s3369 it wasn't "mental gymnastics." Rewatch rebels, cause some of those hints weren't subtle.
Please do Chopper Next. He is a grumpy yet kind droid who helps his crew no matter what. He deserves a video in your channel.
Yoo for real though chopper and those arms have so much emotion and personality more than any other binary speaking droid (even artoo)
At first, I thought it would be a terrible idea to make Sabine force sensitive, but a Mandalorian Jedi would be incredible to see on screen.
Well we know Tar Vizla was the first Mandalorian Jedi, but nobody said he was the only one...
I mean a Mandalorian Jedi IS the reason we got the Dark Saber.
Tar Vizsla, predecessor to Pre Vizsla, Paz Viszla, etc was a Jedi who happens to be a Mandalorian as well and he's the one who built the Dark Saber.
Plus like Howell above me said, Tar Vizsla was the First Mando Jedi, but it doesn't mean he's the only Mando Jedi.
Just because u have a fan fiction doesn't make it a good idea and it damages the existing Canon ffs 😂
Grogu just left the chat 😂
I hope we get some Sabine books!!
If they do, then I hope Tiya Sircar narrates them.
After that season finale, she's now my new favorite character.
It would be interesting if they made her force sensitive but in a "lower level".
She could be on the level of any normal Jedi but since she's a Mandalorian she never tried to use the Force and knew very little about it. Luke and Leia were two of the most powerful force users in SW canon. Luke didn't know he was force sensitive until he was 19 and Leia didn't know until she was 23.
I’d love if they explored different levels of force sensitivity being accepted into the New Jedi Order in the same way that the Old Republic used to
I do like that idea, especially after Chirutt in Rogue One who was clearly force sensitive but not quite a Jedi. I feel like there were plenty of people who could sense the force but had low midiclorian numbers so were ignored by the Jedi and the Sith as prospective students. I always suspected that Han Solo was also on the low end of force sensitivity due to his "luck" and quick reactions as well.
@@jacoblyman9441Oh yeah, i almost forgot about Chirutt. The way the Force protects him when he's doing his mantra definitely hints at him being somewhat connected to the Force but not fully.
@@AbrahamArthemius not to mention as well, but even Andor and Jyn Erso with their connections to kyber crystals seemed to be somehow guided by the hand of the force (ironic a bit since the Death Star with its kyber crystal core is what killed them both, but still...)
I think it's a more meaningful view on spirituality/faith in Star Wars when not everybody is a Jedi and obviously receiving such blatant Force powers; but there are lots of signs sprinkled about that the average people still have connections to the Force they aren't always aware about.
I can't wait to see Ahsoka and sabine in live-action!!!!
I've long been a fan of your channel. But as a member of one of the striking unions, I just want to say how awesome it is that you continue to shine a spotlight on these very important issues that lay people probably don't know much about.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT.
Sabine being force sensitive works if you think about how Mandos view the Force and Jedi. Sabine was born and raised into an old Mando Family. If she was force sensitive she would have never been trained to tap into it and she wouldn't have been on any of the Jedi lists. The Mandos would ignore/hide/dismiss any early force powers like moving things. She was drawn to the one Rebel cell that had a Jedi in hiding and was a natual with Lightsabers which usually take non-force users including Mandos years to master.
I don't think sabine is "force sensitive" but I think, looking at her Rebels back story, she has an understanding of the force unique to her. She studied the temple on lothal with the emperors advisor, she trained with the dark saber under Kanen and she watched ezra grow, in his own understanding and experience. So while she may not be able to use the force I think she will have an amazing understanding of it and I think her "training" under Ahsoka will lean more towards that rather than actually being able to use the force.
She designed a weapon that could target Mandalorian armor, but destroyed it..."as soon as she realized the Empire planned to use it against her own people?" I need to rewatch that arc because this does not make Sabine look too bright, which I am sure was not the writers' intent.
To paraphrase Sabine: It was a challenge, she was arrogant, and it was a series of bad decisions (including the name of the weapon).
Definitely recommend a rewatch, all of her episodes are so good. Since this was a short overview I guess they didn't feel there was time to get into her reasoning, but she was like 13 or 14 and only saw the weapon as an interesting challenge. Kids don't always have great impulse control or understanding of consequences, especially considering she must have been bombarded with imperial propaganda every hour of every day. Separated from her family or anyone who might have given her another perspective (she was in the imperial academy on mandalore, her family holdings were on another planet so probably a bording school situation), its pretty compelling that she managed to figure out what was going on and nearly put a stop to it.
It reminds me of survivors of religious schools.
She was arrogant and young back then.
Mandalorians are known for fighting other Mandalorians. As a Mandalorian who was loyal to the Empire, she would have thought the weapon might be used against her enemies, Mandalorians who were against her own clan of Mandalorians. Eventually, she discovered the horror of what she'd done and flipped allegiances against the Empire. This happens with all defectors from the Empire. They particpate in some atrocity, they feel bad about it, and then they defect.
..or in the case of Bill Burr's character, Mayfield, he saw the Empire treat its troopers/friends as mere fodders.
Young Sabine in an episode of Bad Batch season would be a perfect way to show us her story before Rebels
You mean like season three?
@@seanpatrickcain2 She's the same age as Ezra by the start of Rebels Season 1 so she'd be less than 10 years in the Bad Batch era if my math is right
@@StephenRA17 Based on Wookieepedia, Sabine is two years older than Ezra, and during the first two seasons of Bad Batch she'd be just two or three years old.
Young Sabine as she learns how to fingerpaint and use the potty. Seriously, she's like 2 or 3 years old during the Bad Batch.
Great job and explanations. Thx!
Thank you for all these videos. I watched Rebels awhile back and can’t remember everything 😃
Sabine's already one of my favorite characters in Star Wars, probably my favorite who isn't (or hasn't been) a Force user, and definitely my favorite Mando. Then add the questions about the Great Purge and potential Force sensitivity, along with a number of early reactions praising Natasha Liu Bordizzo's performance, and my interest is even greater.

Her being force sensitive is a terrible and "forced" idea
How can you like her? Why?
@@rumblefish9 I like her use of art for expression. I like that she generally wants to have people around but still have space to do her own thing. I like that she values individuality but also Mandalorian tradition and culture, as well as her found family.
@@rumblefish9 I mean why not? and 2nd its really none of your business who we like or not. also shes a great character in rebels. just not much here
Thanks so much for this video it was a great recap on Sabine Wren.
Finn was also a late-bloomer in the Force.
Maybe Sabine could use the Force like Finn did in Star Wars 9. And then when they meet Ezra again, she’ll train to be a Jedi and gradually get more powerful.
Thanks for the video
i kinda wish that sabine keep the dark saber and ezra being find back and become ahsoka apprentices.
You are a force god. Thank you for this summary.
In the awakening of Star Wars Ahsoka and the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn, will the Noghri and Garindan appear in Ahsoka? Garindan was better off being a villain as well.
Two days now -- can't wait
it would be a cool concept of the force developing a little later in a persons life, like people who were perceived to be non-force sensitive but later matures and I feel like we only see one way that as it being like it develops at a young age and makes the whole magic feel a little hollow, I also feel the same way about Leia because in the Return of the Jedi she says can sense that Luke wasn't on the Death Star when it exploded and told Han that she "could feel it"
Yes, the FORCE can AWAKEN itself later in life.
Remember when being able to use the force was a rare thing? Pepperidge farm remembers.
It's been established that the Force resides in ALL living things since the very first movie.
Sabine Wren is a bit like Cally from the British sci-fi series Blake's 7.
This makes me wonder, we know that Tar Vizla was the first Mandalorian Jedi, but there must have been more afterwards, surely.
As a Rebels fan I tried to describe Ezra and Sabine to someone who’d never seen the show. And I basically said “Ezra is basically Aladdin in space. Sabine is kinda basically Mulan in space.” I’m not sure it’s a perfect comp but I think it kinda works. I mean Ezra is obviously a riff on Aladdin. But I do think Sabine has Mulan vibes.
Sabine can't go anywhere without something blowing up.
The d23 trailer showed her hand (with black nail polish) trying to move a cup with the force.
I had A idea back in 2020 for A What If story for A CZcams channel. And was What If Sabine Wren had Force powers and train with Ezra Bridger and later had more training from Ahsoka Tano. It looks like I had A vision of the future. May The Force Be With You Always for This Is The Way.
I don't think she is force sensitive. The dark side girl even says to her "you have no power" in the trailer. Ahsoka just trains her in the lightsaber, as dooku did grievous.
I'll tell you a secret: being a Jedi is more than just using a lightsaber.
I would love to read a book about Sabine's innitial Jedi training, and have Tiya Sircar narrate it!
I think an even better alternative would be a short arc in a Tale Of The Jedi season that focuses on her training. We could get to see the Night of a Thousand Tears without it being to violent for a live-action show, and Tiya Sircar proved us she can get really emotional as Sabine.
@@emmanuelstalder6968 that's also a good idea.
I hope the series doesn’t gloss over the fact Sabine is a talented artist.
You have encyclopedic knowledge of the storylines, plot lines, and characters, in this case especially with Sabine, and I really appreciate that. Her character might be my favorite, and is definitely the one that I am the most excited about watching in the upcoming two episodes.
I really hope she's force sensitive. A mandalorian jedi sounds cool af.
So bo was ok receiving the sword from wren?
She is my ravorite mandalorian
I think at most we will see Sabine get force sensitivity similar to how chirrut was force sensitive. Anyone can attune themselves to the force with enough study and practice. Doesn’t mean they would have full Jedi-like powers though
But unlike Chirrut, Sabine is a Jedi, powers and all.
The lack of understanding seems to stem from the Jedi themselves put into midiclorian count or a child showings signs of force use at an early age. However, the canonical shows and movies have shown us people that would never have qualified as Jedi, Sith nor Dathomir style witches by used the force. Chirrut Imwe insisted he was not a force manipulator, but that his actions were influenced by the flow of the force around and through him, as a result of training he recieved from the Guardians of the Whills. Han Solos instinctive ability to manually in and out of hyperspace, or just the way he flies is more like a Jedi than most other pilots.
I don't think Sabine could ever be a Jedi, but I do think she could learn to consciously connect to the force, given some time (which she seems to have had), guidance and a reason.
I am 40 minutes into the the first episode. As someone who has not seen any of the animation. The live action depiction seems totally different than the one you have explained in your description. From what I have seen so far, she seems like a selfish, spoiled brat.
My question, do you think this series actually needs you to know the animation that this is based on? And a follow up. Would this have been better with a prequel comic or short to catch us up?
Thank you for your explanation videos. They helped me to understand more of what is going on. I know Thrawn from the books (I'm over 50, lol), so your explanation helped me with the modern interpretation and integration. You and Molly are awesome. Thank you
Sabine is one of my favorite characters in anything, & means a lot to me because i’m an artist who’s slightly interested in technology & weapon design, & it just feels so special to me to see an artist whose also quite skilled with technology, weapon design, & weapons in general cause i’m a bit like that myself. Also, speaking of being an artist, she’s one of my favorite characters to draw cause she’s so well designed & coloring my art of her is super fun :D
Sabine wren fall love jedi knight ahsoka tano
No, most likely she'll fall in love with Dark Jedi Shin Hati.
👍
I still don't really like the idea of making her Force Sensitive. I get it, but also it's just another thing for Sabine to have in the list of skills and abilities. Mandalorian (belonging to a high ranking family, Wren, in a high ranking clan, Vizsla), Weapons Expert, Artist, Ex-Imperial, Ex-Bounty Hunter, Child Prodigy, and now "Jedi" (don't know if that's the right term for that yet if that's the case). Now if we actually see her struggle with it, that'd be nice, her best story is struggling to wield the Darksaber, but most other times I just don't care about the character because she's kind of just too perfect at everything she does. I hope whatever is done with her in the new show will help turn my opinion around.
What's wrong with expanding her skills and abilities?
@@jonathancharron7360 Because she's already got too much going on. Thankfully in the show, she struggled to do even the most basic stuff because she isn't just naturally talented with the Force, but now that we've seen her begin to connect, I hope we continue to see her struggle because it makes for a more engaging story.
@@MCLegoboy she's going to get better. Also, what do you mean with "too perfect?"
@@jonathancharron7360 If Sabine's your favorite character, nothing I say is going to meet your standards. I find her to be an incredibly boring character in Rebels because she's untouchable, she's everything and then some, I already listed it all in the first comment, that's what makes her too perfect.
Her character in the Ahsoka series was much more interesting because we learn that her interest in learning the ways of the Force were potentially motivated by the Great Purge, she's very rigid in her Mandalorian style beliefs and they prevent her from really opening up to the Force, and then when she finally does reach out and pull the Lightsaber towards her, she still had to basically will it into being, which I would say is more a sign of the Dark Side despite the music being the traditional Force Theme. She was under duress in that moment, it could have been handled a little better. Pushing Ezra further to the Chimera was much better, and I think it's because she had a real clear goal and trusted that she could accomplish said goal. However, she doesn't quite see Anakin at the very end, and it's been theorized that Force Ghosts can only appear to whom they wish to be seen, but that's a sign to me that she still has plenty more to learn, and that it's not going to be easy.
Sabine still dealing with her past, her relationships to those left in the main Galaxy, even just with Ahsoka, the fact that she is pretty much stranded on this planet in this other Galaxy, it has the potential to affect her studies and seeing her fall to or overcome what's hindering her is going to be way more satisfying than seeing her just have the Force now because we're past her struggles in Season 1. Her potential is unlimited, but she still may only ever peak at what would be a beginner's level to a traditional Jedi, and I find that exciting and hope that's the case for Season 2.
They had to dog her up with that haircut eh?
She reminds me of Selina Kyle
Does that mean everyone is force sensitive you just have to embrace it? If so where does the midi-chlorians come in.
The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us, penetrates us, it binds the galaxy together.
Midichlorians are microscopic life forms that live within all living cells.
Am I the only one who thinks she has way too much going for her? She’s a former imperial weapons designer, a former bounty hunter, artist, mandalorian princess, wielder of the dark saber, rebel, great pilot…and now a potential Jedi?
Well, half those things are just labels that don't mean much. A bunch of characters are rebels, bounty hunters, artists, great pilots, etc. The only "main" skills she has are her artistry and weapon designing, which is an extension of her artistry skills. Her being born as a Mandalorian princess isn't a choice, and the rest of the things are skills she's bound to pick up through being a Rebel. If you surround yourself with great people, you'll definitely be able to learn and grow from them. Why wouldn't Hera share her piloting skills with her team, you know?
@airborneace I mean like everyone agrees that Rey is a bad character because she's too flawless but like Sabine is just as bad or worse, yet I don't see that many people who have an issue with her
@@ElmoTofu Personally, I don't think Rey is a bad character. I think she's a decent character trapped in a trilogy with sloppy writing. I actually really like the main archetypes of the Sequels, just not how they chose to go about it. Rey being the Jedi/Melee character, Finn being the Sharpshooter, Poe being the pilot, and Rose being the Mechanic/Engineer is a really good team set-up. They just never used them properly. If it were up to me, The Last Jedi would've been the movie that had all 4 of them traveling together and bonding. Poe and Rey could air out their lust for being the leader there.
Also, I was a much bigger fan of Rey's parentage being unimportant. The idea that anybody, no matter where you come from, can achieve greatness is a lot more profound than being powerful because your parents are. It also takes away from making the Force spiritual again when lineage is made important; a mistake people took issue with in Phantom Menace.
And I think everyone agrees that including Palpatine was the worst decision they made. Kylo Ren overthrowing Snoke was a really good idea, but Snoke's story and purpose should have been explored during the middle movie, and Kylo overthrows him at the end. I don't mind Snoke being like a deformed clone of Palpatine, but Palpatine himself shouldn't be in the story at all. He existed as part of Anakin/Vader's arc and his importance to the Sequel story feels so sloppily added on to justify his presence. As well as taking away Kylo Ren's role as the "final boss". I also kind of wish he had a better reason for fully throwing himself into the Dark Side. I don't mind it being related to a mistake Luke made, but it seems very unlike Luke to give up on saving his nephew. And Kylo went straight to burning the temple and killing the other students; why? It seems like a huge jump. It'd be nice if Snoke was manipulating Kylo from a young age to be against Luke's teachings, which aren't traditional Jedi or something. And Kylo growing increasingly angry at Luke for not teaching him the more powerful Force techniques. Just some type of resentment that was growing over time and not a single mistake made by Luke.
Anyway, I rambled enough. Talking about the wasted potential of the Sequel trilogy can be exhausting and makes me a little sad. Especially when they had actors like John Boyega and Oscar Isaac who loved Star Wars and now would never be a part of it again. The people in charge really dropped the ball everywhere.
@@ElmoTofu Rey wasn't flawless. Her flaws were not so much in skill but more so emotional ones.
@@TheDanteEX they weren't wasted. Those characters' stories will continue in some form or another.
Look, Natasha is a great actress and I would never try to minimize that but….hfs, that short hair is so effing hot 😂
Sabine like Kanan, was possessed by a Night sister ghost which is how Kanan was able to be a force ghost... So her midiclorians are up. This is why Maul may be alive withing Ezra
This sounds like a head-canon, but it makes some sense in a loose way. I prefer that Sabine is force sensitive because she's become more open to it, but I wouldn't be mad if they chose to give some extra explanation that her being possessed triggered some latent force abilities or something.
I don't think Kanan is able to be a force ghost. His voice and spirit has showed up in Rebels and Rise of Skywalker, but I don't think that related to Nightsister possession.
Were her and Ezra ever confirmed to be a thing?
No.
Not as far as I know, but it wouldn't surprise me if a romantic relationship begins to grow. As they say, "absence makes the heart grow fonder", and Ezra has been absent for several years.
Dave Filoni basically confirmed they were not a thing. He said it was important to show kids a non-romantic relationship between two young people of the opposite sex

They still explained what happened to her parents, and they showed throughout the season that she became distant because of their loss.

Sounds like you haven't watched Rebels
@@thatiowan3581 Rebels has some of the most creative stories in the entire franchise; you can easily tell when people didn't give it a proper chance. I love Clone Wars, but focusing the story on a single set of characters lets the audience grow with them and watch them mature into deep and intricate people. A lot is lost in the movies since they tend to skip so many years and we have no idea what happens in that in-between time. Like, I KNOW Luke became a wiser and more powerful Jedi in Return, but I didn't witness it happening. Which is totally fine for movies, but watching helps create a stronger bond between the audience and character when you experience their struggle.
