Why Senator Xiono is EVEN WORSE Than You Think!

  • Senator Xiono has only had two scenes in Ahsoka and he's already a royal pain in the butt. The character was first created for Star Wars Resistance, and those appearances provide some extra insight into who he really is.
This video was created during the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. Without the labor of the actors currently on strike, Star Wars Rebels and Ahsoka wouldn't exist. Learn more about the strike here: www.sagaftrastrike.org/

I agree, the actor is doing a great job if you hate Xiono. I think the reason the actor is facing unwarranted hate is because he is playing an "everyday" villain. He isn't a force welding sith or a space nazi that blows up planets, Xiono is a corrupt politician and I think some of the fans are seeing him as too real and close to home and thus having trouble separating the actor from the role. Xiono is a much more interesting antagonist because he is someone the hero can't just shoot at, there isn't anyway to get rid of him

Given the parallels between Filoni-verse and the Thrawn trilogy, there are strong parallels between Xiono and Borsk Fey'la. With this in mind, I prefer to think that he is NOT in league with the empire, because one of the big plot thread with Fey'la was that everyone suspected he was a spy when he was actually just a very selfish bastard, and I found this twist very interesting.

His reaction to Hera, Leia and Kaz may show he blames them for provoking Thrawn/ Snoke. As if to say "the galaxy would be safe if you had JUST listened to me". I feel like Filoni and the others are building up to the moment where the New Republic moves their seat of government.
Maybe in Filoni’s Heir to the Empire we’ll see a new version of the Siege of Coruscant from the original Thrawn books and that will be the basis for Xiono’s argument for moving the capital?
Could be very interesting to see.

This is the same thought I have especially with the heavy presence of coruscant throughout both Mando S3 and Ahsoka leading to the tragedy when it would face the same devastation as it did in legends from Thrawn trilogy so maybe after the Thrawn Camapign failed like it did in the trilogy this devastation may result in criminal gangs rise up and taking over the upper levels which resulted in the New republic moved to a different capital or Hosnian Prime?

The concept of "my parent is a senator who betrayed the republic and I'm a resistance fighter on the other side" is actually a really interesting set up that would be a new flavour to the parent/child dynamics Star Wars often explores.
We've seen parents revealed as Sith Lords, we've seen kids revealed as dark siders, we've seen kids with good senators for parents. The idea of a character actually fighting as a rebel and confronting their parent who they know betrayed the republic would be so interesting.
It may sound similar to Luke and Vader, but Luke had no real relationship with his father before he discovered who he really was. If the parent and child actually had a prior established relationship it would hold way more weight.

To be fair, I think Xiono actaully did more to prevent another Galactic War than starting it (despite not being present in the last one), considering Hera's actions led to the Deaths of a couple of X-Wing pilots, who likely had families of their own. Not to mention Sabine betrayed the Galaxy to find Ezra when she handed the map over to Baylon Skoll, which led to Thrawn coming back. And now that the Legendary Grand Admiral is back, there will be blood to spill. Eventhough the New Republic failed to pay attention to Imperial Sympathizers as well Remants, they weren't as strong without any compdent leader to guide them properly, which is where Thrawn fits the bill. I'm not saying Xiono is right there's nothing to worry about, but Sabine's actions are clearly proving who's goinig to be the most resposible for what could be the Rise of the First Order.

That was to show that one he was still alive and two showing that there was a HUGE implication that he was aware of what the First Order was doing. We didn't need to see him more than one time in season 2.

Evidence suggests that he's on the Imperial payroll. As Hera called him out on, he was never a member of the Rebel Alliance and he did not fight the Empire. He just sat back and waited to see who won, and then became a politician for the winning faction (at the time). At the very least that proves that he's amoral and not really concerned about other people. Given that Hera's investigation proved that military hardware was being stolen from the New Republic by unknown parties possibly affiliated with Morgan Elsbeth for unknown purposes, Hera was *not* out of line in wanting to find out what was going on. Arresting the employees of the shipyard did not give the NR insight into what the stolen hardware was being used for.

Personally I don’t think he’s associated with the Imperial Remnant or the First Order. To me he represents the complacent politician who may not be trying to do bad things but is blind to the threat that the others possesses.

Resistance definitely makes him seem like a turncoat, but I'm hoping he is more of political figure that wants to throw around his power. That gives some real-world parallels for us to see.

Or he is just extremely negligent and in denial, which happens a lot in bureaucracy. It’s like people who refuse to believe the dam will break until it does. He could also just have been lucky in a case of bad timing about being off-world at the time of the attack. Perhaps he was even set up or preserved as a lame-duck. Leia was offworld when Alderaan was attacked, after all. Maybe Xiono was getting too haughty for the First Order, so they captured him and forced him to watch the Hosnian System get destroyed in order to humiliate him. We don’t know, so I don’t appreciate your slanderous speculation. Not saying he is a good guy, but he isn’t necessarily evil. Do you think Leia was a bad leader simply for not dying with her people? This is a lot of conspiratorial hearsay.

I don't like the character but I kind of understand where he's coming from. Mon Mothma pushed the demilitarization right after Endor and even before Jakku and she as the leader of the rebellion should've the best intel.
And while we as watchers knows that the Empire isn't fully defeated and we know what will come, is Xiono that different from all those politicians who e.g. claimed even in February 2022 that Russia would never attack Ukrajine?
Xiono is shortsighted and opportunistic but I imagine that his attitude towards the Imperial remnant is shared by many not only senators - as we've seen during Hera's briefing - but also common citizens. On the other hand Leia and Hera have suffered great many losses during the war - and Hera by Thrawn - so it's easy to see them as warmongers who want to fight just because they want to see Imperial blood.
