    They are on tour now in the US and they end their show with this song and no microphones. They ask the audience to be as quiet as possible while they sing it. It is stunning!!!!

    As a singer, my favorite thing about this performance is that none of them are OVER singing. They are so tuned into each other and the blend they are creating.......just stunning. And even without that, it's incredibly powerful. It's a great lesson to young singers that you don't have to scream and shout runs and high notes to be impactful.

      @@ZoeStibiVocalCoach It's like you said--it's PRACTICE. Practice and practice and listening and listening and practicing more. Every time they sing I want to call them up and say, "Can I come and sing with you, pleeeeze??" đŸ€Ł And Stacey, you are so right: singing isn't always about screaming or riffing. Singing, at its basic essence, is communication. The question is, when you open your mouth, what are you communicating? Loved your reaction, Zoe! Just like mine: utter astonishment and the joy of watching sheer excellence.

    I don't think too many people could achieve this level of synchronicity. They are extremely talented and have known each other so long. How amazing that three people with this level of talent just happened to get to know each other at a tender age, and then were able to find two more people who were just as talented, and a perfect fit. I loved your reaction and am glad that you played this straight through the first time without interruption. It speaks volumes when a reactor just has to listen. I’m sure their audio engineers are amazing professionals, but this group can balance those levels all on their own. If you listen to their official video of Silent Night it’s just the five of them is standing in the side aisle of a cathedral singing their arrangement of Silent Night and the balance of the voices is just as good as this. No audio engineers balancing levels of the five singers just them.

      @amandaw6872 Pƙed 2 lety +3

      While they do, in fact, do awesome on songs like this with or without mics, I recall seeing interview somewhere where they said they had issues early in their career with this issue for live performances (more on songs with heavier percussion and bass rhythm backing it) because a capella does require a different sound leveling (or whatever the terms are!) than for typical music performance. So, whenever mics are involved and they sound good, there is an engineer at least making sure the sound system isn't screwing up the music coming from the genius aliens singing! 😂

    I saw them live a couple of days ago. It was a brilliant set of performances. They are so so so talented. They sang this song "off mic," meaning none of them had a mic to their mouth. I believe there was one mic on them, but no mixing of any kind, at least of the level that is possible here, with each person holding a mic. The venue was silent-you could have heard a pin drop, so even the people at the top levels in the back could hear them. It was brilliant.

    It was sooo lovely that they ended on a I6/4 chord with Matt singing the 5th of the chord rather than the root! They did this piece on tour! And when they did it, they dropped their individual mics, and in a circle, sang with just a single mic pickup in front of 10,000 people where audience members stated you could hear a pin drop!

    This is one of the best tests for a group. If you want to know how tight a group or band is. Have them sing a song when they are not pushing the top of the range. When they are singing in a low register and keeping it soft, so you hang on every note.
