You need to see excerpts from their live on tour now. Verona, NY, Pittsburgh, Newark. They put down the mics, stand in this circle and sing this song! Imagine it in the NJ Devils arena, packed house, and not a sound but them singing this piece - no amplification! You will be amazed.
I KNOW! I went to the Pittsburgh one and it was amazing!!!
Oh cool thanks!!
Wow!
I just saw them tonight and this was their closer before their encore. They stood in a semi circle with one central mic and no in ear monitors. Was a stunning performance.
AMAZING
I heard them do it live without microphones and they sounded just like this. It was amazing
They have an original song, "Run to You" that they based on the style of this song. Their version of Elvis' "Can't Help Falling in Love with You" is also similar.
Also Light In The Hallway! 💖
Oh nice!!
They have spoken how much this song means to them. They started listening to it as group during the Sing off. It’s the inspiration for their original Run to You. You can truly feel their love for the song here!!!
Love that
They did this live on the show, Christmas Under the Stars.
Nice!!!!
They are such a "family" and have been together for so long that they intuit each other, plus their articulation and enunciation is so exacting...
Amazing
I saw them do this live in Louisville KY last night. So beautiful, so emotional, the crowd was silent, just absorbing this song.
Soooo cool
They’ve done this live without their individual mics in front of 10,000 people! The attendees at concerts where they did this song, that The Trio has loved for 10 years and even arranged for three voices, stated you could hear a pin drop! BYU IS Brigham Young University
Woah!
‘The first Noel’ Pentatonix BYU Tv live! Please 🙂🙂
🙏🏼🙏🏼
I watched it live in concert without mics! They are that good! It was amazing!
Wow cool!
I just love it when Matt & Kevin join the Trio for 5 part harmony! The parts of this special where they sang in front of an audience were the best production & crisp visuals I’ve seen! You could clearly hear everyone! They did a nice mix of throwbacks & brand new songs!
Agreed! So good
This performance was not live, it was for a TV special with BYU TV. Some of that special was performed in front of a live audience but not all of it. However they do this live on their tour. On tour, they put down all their mics and take out their in-ears and sing it. Even without mics and in ears they are able to project through a full arena and they sound like the studio version. It's stunning. Here's a vid of it live if you're interested: czcams.com/video/hzIes4XGQNI/video.html
I think it is live, because if it was recorded the heavy intake of breath would be taken out of the recording.
@@Bpg5012trick not necessarily. sometimes those are kept in for artistic reasons. I don't think it was them singing to their original studio version, but was recorded separately, probably as a one-take, for BYU
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
"Mary Did You Know," is the song u mentioned in the cave with the candles, and "Silent Night," is the one in the cathedral hallways. For the past couple of years, excluding last year, they've made Christmas Specials with tv channels, usually NBC. This year they made a Christmas Special with Byutv, a tv channel/app, I think. They performed a mix of both older and newer songs, including some from their newer album. I think that this also might be live bc ppl in the audience posted clips of themselves at the concert. They also mentioned that they've loved this song for a long time and that it inspired one of their first originals, "Run To You," in 2013. U should give it a listen when u get the chance, it's a beautiful song and it definitely has similarities to "My Heart With You."
Oh wow cool! Thanks!!
This was in the concert. Live. Pure a cappella.
So cool
I went to their concert thanksgiving weekend and they sang this live. It is amazing
Saw them do this song live. They stood in a circle. It was wonderful
Wow
They perform this in concert. They do not use microphones during the live performance. There are also times all their eyes are closed. They are so insync with each other they do not need visual cues.
Woah!
Jacob, you are thinking of Mary, Did you know? in the cave setting. Or Silent Night at the cathedral. They had a Christmas special on BYU TV on Dec 5th. BYU TV has a yearly "Christmas under the Stars" with different artists each year. This was one of their video's in the special. they did do some live singing in front of an audience.
Ah ok cool!
You assumed incorrectly, again. It was part of their TV special on BYUtv. They sing this each night on tour.
Lol, sorry to hear that 🤷🏻♂️
@@JacobRestituto I'm beginning to think that you are trolling us by saying things that are obviously not true just to get a rise out of fans so that they will comment on your videos. If not, it appears that you don't understand a cappella nor a cappella singers and what they are capable of doing live.
@@vidsorama2 You know just because it's a cappella they could still lip sync it, it's a completely fine for him to think that they lipsynced, because it makes sense, while I believe they could have done this particular performance live at that tv movie special, I wouldn't be surprised if they lypsinced you would probably be surprised by the amound of singers that lip sinced performances during the pandemic on these sorta tv shows or specials, PTX lipsynced aswell, don't know if they did in this particular one, it's honestly hard to tell, but they definitely did on some performances in 2020 christmas and even some in 2021 christmas. Also it's not because they sang this song for every night of tour that they didn't lip sync that particular performance, when Jacob said they could have lip synced that, it didn't mean they didn't have the skill to sing it live, we all know they have it, it just meant that it would be a lot more simple and less expensive to lip sync it to a version that they did in a studio, hell they could probably even be singing it and it's just not the version we've heard, it's just so they look like they are actually singing.
A 60-year old subscriber here, Jacob, so I always long and go back to the beautiful songs of 70s and even the 80s. My father played the trombone in an orchestra in the 1950s and that exposed me to the music of the big band era - late 30s and 1940s. Merry Christmas!
Love that! Thanks Beth!
The link below is the original by The Rescues. The Rescues were originally, and are, once again, a three piece. Gabriel Mann on all things keys. Kyler England on ukulele, guitar, and bass, Adrienne on guitar, bass and percussion, and for this period Rob Giles on dums, guitar and bass (he's the one with the beard). All on vocals. Rob left for a band called Circa Zero a duo project with Rob singing and playing everything except guitar, which is Andy Summers (The Police). Rob is also a TV writer now.
All three Rescues also have solo careers and Kyler (sometimes as Relyk) has a side career guesting on EDM songs. Gabriel also scores a lot of TV shows, notably Modern Family.

They did this as one as an encore at the Baltimore show. You could hear a pin drop in the audience.
🔥
i just saw them saturday, and they sang it so well!
amazing
Another reactor went to the New Jersey concert and was so moved by this piece that he instantly reacted by using this BYU video as he felt that it better illustrated what he was talking about. He did however show snippets from the live show as well and it was amazing. So impressive.
Oh wow!
During every live show they sing this song with one mic in the middle. It’s exactly the same sound
cool!
I thought I'd seen all of your pentatonix reactions. Must of missed this one. I could tell, it didn't have a "like" yet. So done and done. Thank you, I enjoyed it alot.
Wow thanks!!
I watch both new and old songs artists make. I like music and dont mind going back and forth.❤
Your song is beautiful Jacob. Merry Christmas to you.❤❤❤
❤️
BYU is Brigham Young University (the Mormans). It is a great PTX show if you can stream it.
🙏🏼🙏🏼
Answering ur question, I listen to both typically! The older songs feel nostalgic for how they sounded when u first discovered them but the new ones make u so happy/proud for the progress they've made! And hopefully u get ur own team one day to help u with filming ur own Christmas specials!
Thank you so much Allison!
I like it so much when you say “Come on”, because it’s what I think all the time. They blow my ears, heart and mind every time. And to answer your question, there is such a pleasure in revisiting music on my teenage years but I like to discover new artists all the time. For example, after listening to this song, I had to search the group The Rescues. I did not know them but what I listened to I absolutely loved (they have a great song I Can’t Stand The Rain). PTX and Superfruit have made me discover a lot of artists. 🤗
So good!
I actually know The Rescues. I just rewatched their video for this song, and this reaction popped up. I didn't know PTX coveted it, pretty much note for note.
It was shot "live" in that this is actually them singing while filming. Logistically it would not be a problem since the BYU (Brigham Young University) studio and stages are very well equipped for music production as well as video. I'm enjoying your reactions.. Keep it up!
Cool!!!
Thank you!
I believe it was a pre-recorded live. They taped singing it live then it was broadcast on the Xmas special 😍
🔥🔥
"They should be famous"👀 .....It really reminds me of "Run to You", but the cave is "Mary did you Know" I can't wait to see them in Tx. Nice reaction man! enjoy your channel.
LOLLLLLL thanks David
Jacob did you notice they ended on a I 6/4 chord! (Matt sang the 5th on the bottom. What a great choice for this piece!)
Wild!!!
The cave, is MARY DID YOU KNOW, and the hallway of the German church is Silent Night ! They do sing this "live" on the BYU channel Christmas special last week.
Thanks Jacob, and happy holidays to you ! :)
❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
PTX are so amazing when they get in a circle (or semi-circle on tour) and sing in 3-, 4- and 5-part harmonies! As others have said, they are doing this live to silenced arenas on this Christmas tour. It is on the Evergreen album too, also very beautiful. As for BYUTV's Christmas Under the Stars, BYUTV does it yearly and have had some pretty big names do it, like John Legend, Train, Gladys Knight and Friends, etc. So, I imagine that PTX were thrilled to get the invite for this year. BYU usually has their Acapella group, Vocal Point, perform a song or two with the acts. They were the choir behind 2 PTX songs in this year's special.
Oh Jacob, if you have never heard or reacted to their original song "Run to You," inspired by this song, you need to both listen and react to it. It's gorgeous also. It's done fully in 5-part harmony. It's not a Christmas song so you may want to save it for after Christmas. But it's another favorite of mine from PTX. It's also one that they have performed live with one mic to silenced arenas. By the way, I am one to go back and listen to favorite music again and again over the years. In fact, I just listened to Chicago's "Winter Wonderland" just a while ago because I hadn't heard it this year yet.
Love that, so good! Thanks!
I believe it's a live recording that was added to the program. But not live in front of an audience.
Nice!!
I often retreat to certain music or movies that give me an escape. Even tv shows. During the last administration it was so ugly I found myself craving the safe space of the West Wing. Obie’s, my go to is Princess Bride or Mary Poppins (the original). Music, sometimes it’s the Beatles. Sometimes it’s PTX. It’s amazing how effective a quiet 15 minutes with a few Pentatonix videos can be to an otherwise stressful or chaotic day. Good combination go to’s are Moulin Rouges or Across the Universe. Incredible music in a cool movie.✌️💚🎄🎅🏼
😃
I'm tempted to say this is live. They're not 100% in sync when starting some phrases. If it was in studio, I would think they would re-record until it was perfect. This is stunning either way!
Oh good point!
Saw them live in Louisville Saturday. This did this live with NO Mics. Sounded great. I have live footage if interested (I recorded it myself)
Love that!!!!
Hey Jacob, I go back and listen to older stuff alot.
Nice!!!
There are many live versions of this song that fans are posting from cellphone recordings taken from their latest tour. I’m very impressed with how this sounds the same as live. Better audio than a cell phone recording ✌️💚🎄
Oh cool!!
BYU stands for Brigham Young University which is a large private university located in the state of Utah. BYU's Acapella group Vocal Point joined them twice on stage at this concert. They competed on the sing off where ptx got its start
Oh cool!!
Aww your so nice!
:)
Great reaction. I find myself listening to older music that hhas meaning to me. There is newer music that I like but rarely listen to, especially Christmas music. MERRY CHRISTMAS 🎄
Nice!!! Thanks!
It's live!
amazing
Stunningly beautiful. How do they do it???
So good
Live live live... 😊
🔥🔥
Waited a hundred years to see your face...
😁
BYU is Brigham Young University. They have a TV studio that the Osmonds and others have used.
Nice!!!
"Even there they're in sync!" 😂😂
Lol
Its on their new album. My favorite! This is live I believe.
🔥
These guys are pretty good and so are you Jacob! As to your question: I do listen to all the stuff that gets released these days, but the older music i listen to in between at times
Nice!! And thanks so much!!
Wow, lip sink or live. First, I guarantee they sang it during the video recording. Now that does not mean they used that take, but their timing is so perfect the video would line up with the recorded version, and every screen shot break can re-align the vocals with the song. Finally, Kirstee sounded more organic then some of their official videos, so I am voting live, standing around a light. Maybe more then one take. 😁🤗😎
So cool!
Considering they have the in-ear speaker thingies in place so they can hear each other, I'd assume this is live. There's no reason for them to have those if it's just them lip syncing.
🔥🔥
Mary, did you know.... and the Wayfarer's Chapel in Amazing Grace...
🔥🔥
All the music past,present.
:)
You should react to the give love back concert with why don’t we. They put the whole concert out on their CZcams
🙏🏼🙏🏼
There is a live! I just watched another reaction before yours.
Oh really?
Pentatonix doesn't just sing their music. They perform it. Other musicians could take a lesson from them.
for sure
Mary Did You Know-cave. Silent night at a church in Europe.
So good
The college called BYU where it was filmed
Nice!
That would be Mary did you know? And the Wayfarers Chapel (the Glass Chapel) Palos Verdes.
🔥🔥
BYU is Brigham Young University in Utah. 😊
Nice!!!
I heard them do this live, sounded the same
Please look up this song live in concert! They just are awesome! Lip syncing is not in their vocabulary!
:)
❣❣❣❣❣
🙏🏼
This is live but in a studio.
🔥🔥
If they lip-synced it, they would have used the cover that is in the album "Evergreen" to lip-sync to. This is different from the one on the album. They actually left out a line in this performance, I think because of time constraints, but I'm not sure.
Maybe!!
Please review encore un soir by celine dion
Thanks!
BYU is Brigham young university
🙏🏼🙏🏼
BYU = Brigham Young University
Nice!
Watch this live from their tour czcams.com/video/hzIes4XGQNI/video.html
Thank you!
Brigham Young University.
Nice!
Your assumptions and negative review of PTX borders on arrogance. Sometimes instead of just appreciating the talents of these musical savants, you have to try to impress us with your showing off of your own slant and intelligence of music. PTX does not do anything they cannot do live! Quit looking at yourself in a mirror when you review!!
