I watched this video when it came out. They do a pretty good job. My family used to go to Texas on business quite often, so we ate quite well. My Nana bought me some Wrangler jeans in Dallas for Christmas, asking them to fit a 12 year old. I'm now 57 and still waiting to grow into them.
Jolly has a video where they go to an authentic KC BBQ place in London named Prairie Fire. It's run by a chef from KC. I really recommend you watch that video as a follow up to this one. The title of that video is "Brits try REAL Super Bowl Snacks for the first time!"
I think they took some British college students there 🤔 too
Yeah I've seen that, it's a good video. Most of their stuff is pretty good actually.
Josh & Ollie so great, they been at it for 10 years. If i'm not mistaken Josh rated this nr.1 experience for 2023 in their recap video for 2023. Ollie is hilarious!!...
Jolly is a good channel, they're fun.. there's one with brits students try biscuits and gravy.. GO TEXAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Definitely react to more Jolly in America!
Love Jolly! The Schoolboys try American and Korean food series is outstanding! You have to check their Korean Englishman channel as well.
Oh you gotta check out thee vids with the school kids, so heartwarming and makes me so hungry lol
Please 🙏
Love Jolly!
Jolly has gone all over America. I love their videos in Louisiana.
In all fairness in the uk we have BBQs ( Cook outs ) to get aboustley drunk beyond recognition not to sober up on food 😅
Yep, and an opportunity for male relatives/acquaintances to get into fights.
Exactly... the food could taste completely shit but you'll end up eating all the cold left overs after your 8th cider.
We do the same thing at both cookouts and barbecues here in Texas 😂
Texas BBQ ( Brisket) is not cooked with sauces. Dry rub only and the meat doesn't need sauce when it's eaten. Personal preference but I wouldn't spoil the brisket with a sauce
Yeah and that's why nobody will ever make a video of if a UK cookout.
In UK, cattle are butchered younger than in US and we cut the carcass differently, so brisket as you know it is literally not available in UK unless it's imported from US, Australia or elsewhere. So basically forget trying to compare a US style smokehouse experience in the UK with home, you'll struggle to find it and it'll be very expensive if you do.
There are a few places in the UK that are doing Texas style BBQ. They have some BBQ festivals during the year. Chuds BBQ went over there for a trip and did a couple of exhibition cooks at one of them and he tried some of their BBQ and the guys he met up with, he liked em, said they were really doing it right. They would import the offset smokers, the meat and the wood from the US. So, you can find it. Go look up Chuds BBQ YT channel and find his episode for the UK, It's pretty interesting. The name of the video is Teaching BBQ in the UK. Chuds BBQ.
I will watch EVERY Jolly reaction you do, I LOVE those guys! They have a Southern Barbecue video as well. As for your question about American style stuff in the UK, they have some videos about some spots that might interest you Spencer. Prairie Fire in London in believe, does Kansas City barbecue, run by a guy from Kansas City. And there is a Detroit pizza place as well, I'm guessing London, but not certain. But Jolly has videos on both! Enjoy!

My favorite barbecue I have ever had was not in a restaurant. My grandfather built his own smoke house. For the Pork, he went Kansas City or Carolina style (I am not sure on east or west). For Beef it was Texas style. Now, he never did the beef rib...it was just too expensive when trying to feed 25 people (kids, grandkids, his wife and his best friend and his wife). He also did some Venison Barbecue. I am not sure what style he used for it.
But just everything was so damn good that I can still remember the taste of it and it has been 25 years since I last had it.
I have nothing but love and appreciation for the different styles of barbecue. They are all amazing.
Now, I will say this. There is not a good restaurant right now that is a barbecue place in my area. At least to me. I wish someone would open a barbecue place in this area. A real barbecue place. One that can mix Carolina, Kansas City and Texas together. (Never have been impressed with St.Louis style barbecue or Tennessee Barbecue, they overuse the sauce and it just is not good).
My aunt uncle n cousins live in Texas, I’ve been 3 times to visit them in the past, and one thing I can say it’s the Texas food I look forward too the most 😋
So pleased...
To see your joy in a brit reaction...
I got into smoking bbqs instead of over a open coal grill . A few years back big joints slow cooking. Love it.
Your coming here???..
Please organise a fan meet.
I love Jolly, been subscribed to them for ages. The sandwiches in the states are amazing... huge! Too big maybe, but amazing.
In the UK, I would say a BBQ is more of a social thing rather than being about the food. The weather is so crap over here that whenever the sun comes out we have a BBQ.
And even if the sun doesn't come out, you'll fine some daft sod trying to barbecue under an umbrella!
Jolly and Korean Englishman are 2 of my favourite channels, you should check out more of their stuff, you won't regret it. In lockdown they even built their own Korean BBQ in Josh's back yard, Josh's wife Gabbie is Korean born in Argentina if I remember correctly. Please check out more of their content.
Gabi is a great chef. She was on the Gordon Ramsey competition show (I think or Top Chef) they had a rough go at it but are in the middle of having their first pregnancy 😊💖 Jolly is the greatest channel on CZcams. Josh/Ollie are 2 great guys that u can’t help but smile/ laugh when u watch them. They have videos trying southern food (and other cities) they fell in love w/biscuits and gravy. Your really should watch more of them. They also have a 2nd channel where they teach u about Korea. Josh lived their for awhile and his wife Gabi is Korean
Yep, I live in San Antonio, and when I cook or go out for BBQ, the rest of my day is blocked off on my calendar. I simply write on the calendar "BBQ @ 12:00 ..... Rest of day - Food Coma!"
I live 4 hours away from the original Terry Black's in Austin, and I make the drive about once each quarter.
If y'all haven't y'all should react to their Korean Englishmen channel where they introduce Korean food to different people. Some of the best episodes are featuring the twins, Barney and Guvna, the highschoolers amongst many other. As a Texan born and raised they are still underselling Texas Barbecue. I moved to Arizona for a few years and moved back recently. When I moved back I had covid and could not smell or taste anything. I went with my family to Roy Hutchin's Barbecue in Trophy Club, Texas and though I couldn't smell it and my taste wasn't completely there, I knew it was some of the best barbecue I've had in my life and I've eaten a ton of barbecue across the state of Texas. I went back on the 8th with my friend after the total eclipse and my assumption from when i had it while sick was entirely correct. It was some of the best barbecue I've ever had. I even got some sauce on the side cause sometimes you want a little sauce. I didn't even end up using it. The only place that I haven't gone yet that I really want to is Goldee's in Fort Worth which is the #1 barbecue restaurant in Texas right now. I've been to Franklin's in Austin, Kruetz, Blacks, & Smitty's in Lockhart and Roy Hutchin's right now is the best I've had until I get the chance to try Goldee's. I'm not too far from Fort Worth so it won't be too long before I get that opportunity. If y'all ever come down to Texas I highly recommend coming to Fort Worth and going to the stockyards, the different museums, catching a show at billy bob's, going to Goldee's or Roy Hutchin's. There's so much to do just around Fort Worth that there's really no point in even venturing out! I will say that the Dallas Aquarium is top notch and far above even the one's in Las Vegas. Fort Worth zoo is better than the Dallas zoo though. Lots of great lakes to spend a day at if you need to cool down, I personally live on Lake Granbury, but Possum Kingdom lake is one of the best especially if you like to party or jump off cliffs into the water. Great video guys! I subbed and am looking forward to future videos!
I’m glad I’m not the only southerner who enjoys watching Brits eat BBQ 😂 I live in Arkansas but very close to Memphis, TN so you know we are serious about BBQ here too. Folks in Memphis would probably take exception with tall saying Texas is the bar for judging BBQ 😂
Jesus ! I've got corned beef and mash potatoes for dinner tonight, I feel so depressed.
Josh and Olly are funny as shit. I've watched a ton of their videos.

There used to be a great BBQ place in Belfast called Bubbaque but it sadly closed down, they did what you guys call BBQ. Slow Smoked Pulled Pork, Brisket, Burnt ends. It had lines outside it every single day they were open.
If you really want to dive into Texas bbq you gotta start in Lockhart, TX. A.K.A. The birthplace of bbq. In this little town between San Antonio and Austin you’ll find the original Terry Blacks, Smitty’s, and Kreuz BBQ. That’s supposedly where it all started. I’ve had all three…hard to name the best, but blacks beef rib is my favorite item. Btw…asking for bbq sauce can be insulting to the staff and the surrounding customers. Best way to tell is if they don’t have any out on the tables… they prolly don’t have any in the whole place.
I’ve watched this one a hundred times. The joy on their faces is priceless.
I’m in Florida (the BBQ stinks), but lived in Eastern Carolina for a few years (Greenville). Not a fan of that style.
For the last 30 years, my main Q dish has been smoking beef ribs, but you can’t find them anywhere NEAR as big as they show in this video.
Fat Pats is good for some American style food on the go in Manchester Spencer
Like a true epicurean, I base my travels around food lol... I can't wait to try Texas BBQ... I'm from Western NC, we do a fantastic pulled pork... But I'm ready for something different!
The amount of food there would perhaps last me a week, all that food on those plates looks God level.
Texas have the best BBQ in U.S. i remember reading this article it even they said texas bbq was the best number 1.
Near the end of the video, Josh and Ollie discuss that Terry Black's should have a Michelin star. The Michelin star ratings are defined as follows: One star: A very good restaurant in its category. Two stars: Excellent cooking, worth a detour. Three stars: Exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey. Given JOLLY's reaction, and that of many others, I submit that Terry Blacks's seems to be worth of at LEAST two Michelin stars.
Nothing close to this in UK, sorry.
I'm a Texan that moved to NC for a while. NC bbq is a noun..its a singular food..pulled pork with vinegar based sauce which I don't like. BBQ restaurants serve pulled pork and fried chicken..that is it. Im glad I moved back 😂
Spencer (guy on the left) is from NC & can confirm other areas of the south do BBQ much better
I enjoyed the brisket version in the Blue Mountains, Australia. Smoked for 16 hours! I had an emotional response to the food to which I have never experienced before. Sensational.
All washed down with Pickleback shots. (Bourbon and pickle brine 50/50) Yum!
I enjoyed learning about your culture this time with our two experts. It made a really nice change. Thank you.
All the best lads.
Keep up the great work.
You can get NC Lexington style BBQ in London. Or rather you could 10 years ago when I was there. As a Native North Carolinian I was surprised to see NC pulled pork barbecue on the menu so I had to try it. I’m more of an Eastern BBQ person myself. But it was decently made and definitely tasted like America compared to the rest of the food I ate that day.
Texas and Eastern North Carolina BBQ is the best in the world!
The best food in any country is the peasant food , because the flavour came from the cooking not the expense of the ingredients.
Shoulder of lamb is maybe the closest, I do a ground roasted leg of lamb that cooks for 8 hours on hot stones and it’s good , but by no means perfected .
I need to visit Texas one day! Damn!
Best BBQ in Denver is AJ’s. It’s in an old industrial building off the beaten path, with very little decor at all, and it’s excellent. And, in fact, they’ve earned Michelin Bib Gourmand (exceptional quality at a reasonable price).
I like sauce on my pork bbq. I think pork goes well with sweet sauces.
The beef. All the beef!! Texas y’all are crazy. I could only handle that a couple times a year. But I see you 👊🏼
Shoutout Memphis BBQ..although Texas Bbq is king
Yep!!!
I’m in Florida, but I do beef ribs with Memphis style rub smoked with mesquite.
@@Ira88881 I live in Florida now too! Moved here from Memphis last year
@@claytonboren3353 Not any decent Q joints where I live in South Florida! You have to do it yourself.
Yea I'm sleep after that meat 😅 6:32
I will say that BBQ here in the Uk is nothing compared to the US or places like Australia. Most BBQs take place at home and are very dependent on the weather. So normally it is check the forecast, rush to the supermarket, buy the stuff (which will not be the best you can get) then cook whilst saying damn the forecast was wrong and rain is on its way, so cook it as quickly as you can..
There is only a few places in Australia, that would have a very slim chance of being comparable to this. This looks bloody Amazballs!!! The episode of Jolly eating Aussie "fish & chips" is a really good watch. I say fish & chips loosely, as they try Aussie style burgers.
You're damn right, I'm really bloody hungry now.
Man, we are *bereft* of good BBQ in the Bay area, chefhubby and I just went down to Savannah and he actually cried at least twice.
"Everything is bigger in Texas!"
Except the quart and the gallon 😛
I actually don't think we have anything the equivalent here in the UK. We have awesome steak houses with smoked meat which they do in-house. I suppose thats the equivalent but its super expensive here and you dont get that much meat. Its not the same because you're expecting it to taste amazing due to the price it is.
American smoke houses tend to be everywhere in some states and you get so much meat for little money and it all tastes amazing. They dont care what the establishment looks like.
You have to react to their Hottest Fairy Floss video, I cried laughing 😂😂😂
The Old Smokehouse. Yard 2 Stricklandgate, Kendal, LA9 4ND, England, UK... known as Pappy's Texas BBQ
No the brisket is the chest plate
I dont think of any restaurants in Northern Ireland that does this, i never tried it myself. Would love too. 😊
I made through the first 10 mins before heading to the fridge. That made me hungry. I lived in Uruguay for a few years. Meat is a serious business there too. Back in the UK and its not doing it. Definitely want to get out to Texas and try out the BBQ there.
Burnt Smokehouse in East London has a well rated American style BBQ. The chef there was based in Texas for couple of years. There are a few others like that but in general UK BBQ cuisine is not a patch on this. However it's easier to find a good steak in the UK and British meat is actually good- in fact some of my relatives that moved here from the States say they generally prefer British meat.
I was gearing up to really hate this video, thinking, "where the fcuk is the Peep Show/Alan Partridge reaction?" But I have to hand it to you and say this was a great reaction, and my mouth is now watering like fcuk!
You are the type of person that gets our attention, somebody who goes along when we mix it up & keeps an open heart like we do when it's something we don't know anything about. Thank you 🤘🏻
@@EmbraceTheSuck21 Thanks for the reply, guys. Now get on with the Peep Show/Alan Partridge stuff and be prepared to cringe.
Next week friend 🧡
My next bbq competition is this month in Texas... :-D
Mouth watering good ! We should steel this. Then add Scychotic beer can bumblebees and getting rained off for familiarity.
They haven't had many sausages over here if they think beef sausages are new.
Exactly, they lie a lot in their videos, either that or they never went anywhere other than their own street in the UK.
New to Your channel, and I'm not quite through it. Just hoping you don't swear. If not I'm all in and will definitely subscribe. Love From Michigan and it's late and a beautiful evening ❤️
I'm in love, you 2. Down home and genuine folk.
I'm from Southern Illinois. We do have our own local BBQ joints. Some are good, and some aren't so good. But the best BBQ Pork Ribs I had ever had was at this River Front lodge-like place in Crump, TN, just on the west side of the Tennessee River from Savannah, TN. (Exact Google Maps coordinates: 35.2150588, -88.3115176) back in 1997. They were Baby Back Ribs, but oh boy, we're they good. Very meaty for Baby Backs, and the way they were seasoned with the sauce or whatever was on them was spectacular. The establishment isn't there anymore. And it wasn't very much longer after I was there. I don't know if it burned down or what, but I was working with an engineering company at the time doing core drilling, and we were staying in Savannah while on the job there. The job site was actually between 20 and 25 miles out east of of Savannah on US Rt 64. I say between 20 & 25 miles because we're working of taking core samples for a new 5 mile stretch of road up to Clifton, TN from the Clifton Junction on Rt 64. But my point is that one night while we were there, we went out to this restaurant and we had the place to ourselves for the most part as it was in the middle of the week. And the rest of my work crew kinda knew the folks at the restaurant because they'd been there several times before. It was my first (and last) time as we finished up the job not too much longer after that. I was sad to learn that the restaurant no longer existed a few years later when Google Maps came online.
Quick heads up please avoid greggs when you are over, Yeah it's fine if you are grabbing a quick snack on the way to somewhere to not be hungry but it's like nando's it became popular as kinda a joke, When in the UK find a nice old established pie shop or fish n chips place, Avoid names like rick steins or ramsays etc just find a lil nice old shop with queue outside...a guy or girl in there 50's running the place and i gaurentee you ual have a great meal whatever it is 👌
BBQ, and Smoked are 2 different things
Never seen anything like that I would be skint 😂😂😂made me so hungry UK here
When you hop over to the UK check out Bare Grills ... I think it's great 👌
I was in texas about 25 years ago and I still dream about the meat I had there😂 also their Mexican food was 👍
Agree! No sauce!
We do have good sausages here but when it comes to (the UK interpretation of) Barbecue the usual approach is to buy shit sausages and burgers safe in the knowledge that the (drunk) self-appointed cook is going to burn the outside to charcoal while barely warming the middle. That's why most people consider chicken to be a dangerous barbecue option. I've had really good meat at a Uk 'barbecue' but the expectation when invited to one is very low.
Texan here! Lived for a time in Lockhart where Terry Blacks started I believe. Had 4 main bbq places and every weekend as you drove through town, bbq was all you could smell. Not just from the four places but individuals who could probably compete with the main places. I’ve had several types from all over the states and they all have their own style and all of em when done right are exceptional.
Outback Steakhouse in Britain...but thats aussie.
It’s actually not even Aussie. It’s just a marketing thing. And it’s not BBQ.
There are British, that hate their food. Watch jolly tries biscuits and gravy
Columbus ohio would be City BBQ
I watch a lot of Jolly videos and reactions to them, and I'm thoroughly convinced that the British just don't know how to cook/prepare good food. Their Fish & Chips I hear are kinda soggy with grease, which typically means their oil wasn't hot enough when putting the fish in. And then you got their Grilling burgers, hotdogs, pork and steaks, in that they over cook them...like Medium-Well to Well Done. And of course the Brits never heard of spices. They barely use salt and pepper from what I gather. I used to have a best friend who was Dutch. I loved with him for a year back in 1997/98. His cooking was EXTREMELY bland. I had to load it up with salt just poo get any flavor in things at all. Europe just doesn't do flavor very well. I guess they just doo't import a lot of these spices that we do (if they aren't domestically grown).
sorry guys, as u may know with me, i aint headin to Maryland (blair witch country) lol or Texas...im going back Southwest to Arizona.
i actually feel sick now, watching this 🤮 im turning vegetarian again😅
Will you be visiting Liverpool?
I need to go …………….🇺🇸
I think much more than $150, even before tax & tip.
You DEFINITELY need to react to more JOLLY -- they're great :) And Korean Englishman, their other channel. Josh is fluent in Korean, and his wife (who's currently expecting their first baby) is South Korean.
Regarding barbecue, no comments or complaints from me, everything you guys said was spot on. I'm a Tennessee girl, so Memphis style has a special place for me, but I actually prefer Carolina style. More vinegary, more of a bite, and it doesn't cover up the meat as much. Memphis-style is better if you prefer a thick, tomato-y sauce or a really rich marinade.
You should have seen the reaction when they introduced biscuits and gravy to some British kids and their headmaster at their school. 😂😂
Our Texas BBQ at home is usually brisket, ribs and sauage with homemade potato salad, baked beans and deviled eggs. Have to include some bacon wrapped jalapenos and mushrooms stuffed with chive & green onion cream cheese as appetizers.
One of the best BBQ sandwiches I've ever eaten is from Buc-ee's..a gas station!
Meat looks really good, especially the beef, but what are the sides and sauces like? Is it full of corn syrup?
UK - best Chinese food I've had has been in the nastiest looking restaurants.
Agree with you on UK Chineses
We don't do anything like how Americans do BBQ. We do a lot of things better, burgers is one of them, but cooking meat is not... I go USA every year and BBQ is a must. Don't rave about the sides too much though
A little late to the party...but yes, everything is bigger in Texas because the thought of someone leaving hungry is supremely embarrassing. Plus you need to take food home.
This is what I wanna see more of guys show us America and the stuff your proud of loved it ok I'm off food shopping goodbye 😂😂😂
🇬🇧love my Webber kettle👍
Definitely on my bucket list. Leave the horns on but wipe it’s arse
Is there a comparison to Terry Black’s? No. Not in this universe.
Do reaction to the Benny Hill: Spot Black, and Benny Hill: Adventures of Robin Hood. Great comedies. :)
Right off the bat, to hear you talk about the BBQ sauce rather than smoking the meat makes me sad. BBQ isn't sauce. BBQ is smoking meat.
Edit: Ok, watching further and you redeemed yourself. Sorry for the hasty judgement. :)
Your gonna be highly disappointed in any UK sausage you try.. it's not even sausage by our standards. There's more filler in it than meat.
Imagine a boudin sausage with no seasoning.
Crikey, at 7 minutes into it, even for an American that must be a lot of food. I'd need a doggy bag for half of it. It looks absolutely delicious though 🤤
Not to Sh*t on your doorstep but smoking meat is smoking meat it’s not a bbq 🤷♂️
