    Literally met a guy from Morocco the other day & half way through me saying that they had the longest treaty w American out of anybody, he finished what I was saying for me. & that they were the first to recognize the USA. Was very proud for his country to have the longest treaty w the US ever. Awesome moment, would have never happened without the fat electrician educating me

      Would they have ever thought this many years later, over electronic media, internationally, we would still be talking of what they did that day?? That it would still bind?? Or we would even be meeting one another and bringing it up in person, today......?.....butterflies everywhere, cause and effect, causality.

    "Marines wouldn't board with muskets because they're one and done."
    Firstly, they were rifles. During ship to ship combat, Marines acted as marksmen, firing from the masts down onto the enemy's decks.
    Secondly, we still do bayonet drill to this day. A Marine with an empty weapon is not unarmed. Back then, this left them with a six foot steel weighted brass butted spear club. And what if a Marine lost his rifle in the melee? Transition to cutlass and pistols.
    "Buh! But pistols were one shot!'
    Which is why they were also designed as eighteen inch steel weighted brass capped clubs to pare with a sword.

      Should’ve added the fact that because they were using flintlock pistols they would oftentimes carry multiple pistols as they knew they were more than likely not gonna have time to actually reload them during the fight.

      In the modern age with every military using lightweight plastic assault rifles it's easy to forget how devastating a butt strike from a 5 foot long 15 lb rifle is. Not to mention the machete length bayonets of the time.

However, they gave a chance to show our indomitable will for a second time in quick succession to the last. It would shape and establish our core identity as a nation and a people, what we stood for and would not stand for! Sic Simper Tyranus!

      The Marines are directly under the POTUS to this day and are the personal arm of the President, it wasn't until the 1970's with the war act did the other branches get similar previsions allowing them to be deployed without congress approval due to the cold war and the threat of nukes.

    • @rg20322
      @rg20322 Před 26 dny +5

      Uhmm.....did they? If Britain continued, they would yet again run out of money and fighting yet more nations that despised them. It was a no-win situation for both sides.
      Please also consider that when they signed the treaty to end this war, there was another battle going on in Louisiana called the Battle of New Orleans. This was 1 month after signing the treaty and the British were absolutely gutted.

    • @atiminthailand4531
      @atiminthailand4531 Před 25 dny

      @rg20322 America lost the war of 1812 yes. I doubt they teach you this in American history classes.
      You need to realise that the war of American independence was won by the French. The British simply had to give up their supply routes due to other commitments in Europe. In 1812 Britian was still the dominant force in the Americas and the colnies still had to trade at favourable rates to the British or risk another war in which they'd most likely lose especially after 1815 when they defeted the French.
      In was ww2 that saw the decline of the British Empire and its influence around the world.
