I just saw this quote on facebook, and thought it would be appropriate here: I do not WANT a Gumbo recipe from the New York Times, I WANT a Gumbo recipe from an old woman named Mawmaw Thibodeaux who can bare knuckle box an alligator while reciting the Holly Rosary in Cajun French.

The thing I love a lot about their channel is they don't come with all that judgement. I get sick of hearing people from overseas go on about oh Americans are fat, too much sugar, and chemical....we get it. That exists, but just come, try the food, experience something new like these guys do, show respect for the food and the hands that prepared it because a lot of times, this food was survival food that got a lot of folk through a lot of hard times. Do that instead of drinking that haterade. Love you guys reaction videos.

The kid said, "A chicken hawk." When asked what he was going to do with it, the kid said, "Make gumbo." So he asked what chicken hawk gumbo tastes like. The kid thought a minute and said, "'Bout like owl..."

@@TheDemouchetsREACT The first thing any person from Louisiana learns to make is a roux. It's so important that we make a roux for almost every recipe. First step in making ice cream? Make a roux. You may not USE the roux, but it is important to make it.
When my parents were in Ruston (attending Tech in the early 60s), they had a friend who was wild about my mother's gravy. He was a Yankee (that's half a word), and he asked my mother to teach his wife how to make gravy. The woman didn't know how to make a roux!! How do those people eat? I'm glad I'm from God's Country where people know how to cook.

Got down to 70F, time for Gumbo! I went to Oklahoma for school and I was SHOCKED that they didn't do gumbo or jambalaya. Like growing up here even the schools would do a gumbo day and a jambalaya day. I was in college and I was seriously looking forward to the cafeteria doing a jambalaya day cause the food in the cafeteria was decent and I was living in the dorms so I couldn't cook for myself. So I asked them "hey what day are yall doing jambalaya?" and they looked at me like I had lost my dang mind. Some of them didn't even know WHAT IT WAS?! I was so sad, but as soon as I got a holiday break I *rushed* home and momma cooked me enough to bring back to the dorms with me. I portioned it out of my dorm freezer like it was *gold*

I asked one of the American CZcamsrs in South Africa, they were live on their channel ect, that when their mother visits South Africa they must do a cookout made up of soul food and invite their close South African friends, they said they don't like soul food ect,
Is soul food not a black American thing or its only for the black guys in the hood?
Mmm😋😋😋 that piece of chicken looks yummy,
Can the Lady come open a restaurant in Johannesburg!

The British are not much on spices. Although they use to travel the world taking spices.

I am Guyanese Indian who was raised in Louisiana, I visited the UK. The food is very bland. As someone else said. It's foreign cultures that bring any flavor to British cuisine. Greggs was ok.

The English colonized much of the world because they were looking for someplace with decent food and decent weather. Their food is as bad as their lousy weather.
