The Soviet KV-220 is another rare premium tank in War Thunder, and it's probably my favorite out of the bunch. Yea, it's a bit ubiquitous with its red paint scheme, but it is a blast to play. It isn't as expensive as Object 279, but it still costs a lot of Gaijin coins.

Ah the KV tanks, universally hated by people who dont play them, universally loved by soviet players, and universally mocked by historians
The normal KV1 and S are good but the Zis 5 wasn't fun with all the hits and non pens (although i somehow have good stats with it)

@@KatyushaKitsune I hate trying to bomb Soviet heavies, they always end up with no engine, gun, tracks, breach, turret ring, elevation mechanism and transmission, but the crew is completely fine somehow. Literally every part of the tank is broken, but the crew blinked out of reality at the moment of detonation and then resume existence once the danger is past. Contrast with British heavies where is a bomb lands in the post code 8 time out of 10 they just exit the undamaged vehicle and return to hanger of their own accord.
A competent KV-220 player spells immediate doom for the enemy.
Also a video on the history of this tank could be pretty cool.
Red Wrench Films recently did a video on the KV series, although it barely touched to KV-220 also known as T-220.

The KV-122 is another good one thats 5.3 when the IS-2 which is pretty much the same is 6.0
Got 16 kills on that thing. And IS-2 is not the same at all. Its faster both forward and backwards, has way more hull armor so it can be player as a heavy/armored medium, while КВ-122 is much more passive and has to act like TD so thats it.

It can kill the jumbo by breaking the barrel, automatic overpressure. One of the best rounds in the game.
Too bad it has less pen than stock shell

Very same shell as 88 flak bus and have higher velocity than stock shell.

3:19 the little face on that sturmtiger is so funny and horrifying at the same time
the tiger barely penned your turret and the explosion hit the turret ring which counts as an internal component so it overpressured you due to the 200g of tnt equvalent in the pzgr shell. at 8:17 something similar happens, but your shell doesnt have enough filler to overpressure. with the pzgr shell that wouldve been a one shot kill.

im not entirely sure but i think that over pressure at 9:33 was because the tigers Pzgr round has enough explosive to over pressure if it pens, and for some reasons the game calculated the hit as a pen.
The game loves doing that, one time I penned a tortoise and one shot it frontally from quite a distance away , using the m4a3 105 sherman’s heat round and the ensuing damage simulation was very wonky, don’t think I was ever supposed to pen him but I did
The tiger opened the tiger pened tho. He went tru the very low front turret plate, wich is 100mm flat. It's such a small spot to hit, and that tiger Player was very lucky
It took the turret ring damage as penetration and insta-killed him. Jumbos get screwed by clown physics like this all the time. Real Pzgr Tiger bullshit hours. My favorites are the 89 degree parallel traveling Soviet shell auto pen kills, because gaijin can't even read Russian.
@@lector-dogmatixsicarii1537 I had an IS-2 fire APHEBC at my American T-34 heavy tank's mantlet from 500 meters (which is some 100mm thicker than what it can even pen, it eats long 88s for breakfast FYI) and it exploded in the mantlet and overpressured my entire crew. I was so dumbfounded I recorded it and saved it as a gif.

Also, the M36 getting completely missed and all you hear is fsssshhhh into cam time. The T34 still has the T29 series missing spall shield, and gets face killed by dong 88's since it only has 203mm because of that. This is an extra 3 inches of armor memory holed.
122's, as per RU usual, overperform to the point it makes these convenient slips so bad. The British comments on their testing methods, and Aberdeen tests, REALLY piss in their cheerios. I have to preempt the "muh Soviet Tiger 2 test" 'proof' by pointing out it was pocked with a multitude of shit to achieve the glacis shatter they got. All you're going to do is activate stage 2 of the boss battle if you hit a T29 in the face. Pusan T-34 experience™ getting clapped by tanks held together by womens panties and tape.

I remember when this thing started to show in matchmaker and I was grinding british tree. I gave up playing the game for half year, because each game there was 10 of those things vs bunch of comets that could turn KV's crew yellow by firing at the weakspots.
Hey Spook, you should try the Churchill na75 as it has a sherman gun so no solid shot, and if you angle, it is basically unpennable.

Hey Spook, you should play the Semovente 75/46 M43. It's a deeply overshadowed italian tank destroyer which can deliver an heavy punch but it's deeply ignored the potential it has.

You should try out the conqueror, not that slow for a heavy tank and armor works pretty well hull down
It only works well when you get the spaced armor upgrade (which is a tier 3 or 4 modification unlock) otherwise the turret and hull get absolutely destroyed...
Fun fact:
The Tiger overpressured you with his APCBC, not his HE which is impressive
I think it penetrated the outer layer of the mantlet and stopped on the inner layer, causing the overpressure mechanic to behave as if it penetrated normally, however stupid that may be.

was just playing this the other week and despite running into several 76mm shermans within 500m, a T95 doom turtle and several CAS runs i only lost one crewman and got the first survivor award i'd received in over four months.

I remember when they had the rush mode of Germany vs. Russia on Novorossiysk (super fun) but it was a living hell the one time we pushed the line and were met with two KV-220's. I never expect them to begin with, and they held that road all game single handedly.

The shot at 9:33 is actually possible with the Pzgr. shell in the same angle right under the bottom corner of the mantlet cheeks, it has enough explosive mass to overpressure the tightly packed crew... Cool!

it's "overpowered" right untill someone with HEAT-FS, APDS or APFSDS sees it

The Tiger 1s Pzgr and Tiger 2 105s shot are basically just metal shell full of boom with the later being able to overpressure an IS-3 by hitting the mantlet

KV-220 my beloved, got that from 2016 event, that thing used to be 5.3, even uptiered, it was absolute menace, bonus combo if you used bushes to hide your massive gun mantlet and cupola

I started playing again yesterday (mostly 5.3), played way too many hours... and no downtiers (the best I got a couple of times was 5.7, otherwise just full uptiers). Very fun. 🙃

Dunno if you'll end up seeing this, but since your M8 Armored Car video, I've been thinking about the Daimler car for Britain. In theory, it's basically the same thing but with some tradeoffs. You get a closed roof but no .50cal. You have a much better reverse gear, but you're a bit slower to accelerate. You're very small, but you only have 3 crew members (honestly not a big deal considering the non-existent armor). But a major difference is in the gun: Where the M8 gets a 37mm, the Daimler gets a 40mm with slightly better damage, pen, damage, reload speed, and has access to a lower pen but higher damage APHE shell for weaker targets. I remember using it before they added the APHE shell to the 40mms when the AP had 94mm of pen and I'd use it against T-34s and Shermans at 3.7 lol.
When you talked about depression. I think you should try Sturer Emil. It reminds me of the weird Stg 44 with curved barrel

I'd like to see you play the M90/53 M41M (Italian tank destroyer). It's highly underrated IMO (and it's low ammo can be offset by refilling at caps)
You just want to see him suffer because that thing only has 8 rounds of ammo.
Only good thing it has going for it is the 90mm at 3.7 and its' stock APHE shell has half a kilo of filler. (Which is kind of crazy)
