The M4A1 is very ok.

- The M4A1 Sherman is a very "middle of the road" kind of tank. It doesn't seem to do anything exceptionally well but also isn't completely useless. I do have fun using it though and get a lot of satisfaction from kills.

Most Shermans basically become glass cannons at 3.7 onwards, it doesn't get too much improvement on armor but gets very effective guns. But sometimes it leaves you with the experience of "HOW AM I ALIVE?"
Honestly, in my experience (As a Sherman main) the armor isn't too bad from the M4A2 onwards so long as you angle it aggressively. It's not great, but you can bounce some shots passably well. I would also argue that the Sherman enjoys a greater mobility than other mediums and so therefore can flank and ambush pretty well. I honestly play this tank like a brawler a lot and have a lot of fun doing it
wow, 2 days ago you had 7 subs now its almost 70 congrats
Thank you!

460 now ! Hi from China
now it's 1.08K lets gooooooo
As much as i hate to say it, this is the EXACT same experience i had with the M4A1.
Made me swap over to the german tech tree, now i do both at the same time and its a nightmare to tier up.
I’m doing Germany and USA at the same time too! Germany 3.3-3.7 is great fun but USA is a little painful 😂

you should definitely try the turan 1 or 3, amazing tanks

ay bro keep it up, u got this
I have a tip for you when playing any 75+mm cannon, is to bring high explosive. These are good because they server one purpose: to overpressure. you va take things like hetzers and marder 3s just by shooting the gun shield
cant wait till a video on m4a1 76w
Nice video bro
Respectfully, the lack of on-the move shooting is what's hurting the most. The stab is your best bud here, and you have to make use of it as much as possible. Gotta get good at eyeballing shots and moving cover to cover, and it'll translate better to stuff like the jumbo sherman.
hey i like your content but i have a tip shoot in the hull instead of the turret when they are with the side to you 😁(sorry for bad english)
Your english was perfect 👌 thanks for the tip!
shermans are very good tanks, but they need positioning and map knowledge due to weak armor and large profile, poor ballistics of 75 mm gun is not noob friendly either. i recommend the hull down positions with shermans, abuse that -10 degree of gun depression.
guess a loader is a gunner now
holy fanum tax
The M4A1 is an amazing tank! IF you know how to use it. If you're used to being spoiled with high pen then you'll do badly. The best part of the Sherman is it's response time (Turret turn rate, and reload rate), 50. Cal, and short stop stabilizer which makes you so much quicker to respond when stopping to shoot or shooting on the move. So I wouldn't say it is Mid, I think you just need to learn the game to truly use this tank, once you do the Sherman is one of the BEST tanks hands down at the 3.3. - 4.0 br range.
Use the tanks advantages over it's enemies, the stabilizer is a godsend, test it out in the test range. Drive while scoped in and punch the brakes, you'll notice the gun bob a bit but then snap into a stable position. German panzers and T-34s lack such a advantage, and their guns will bob for a while if they hit the brakes. Use this to get the first shot off in engagements, or if going under 25kmph you can shoot accurately on the move.
You can also bind a control called "Select machine gun", This allows you to control the machine gun separate from the turret. Basically you can shoot your 50. call over cover whilst fully concealed, good to kill exposed enemy crew or thinly armored vehicles like BT-5s and 7s.
The turret turns quickly and used in co-operation with your hull you can respond quickly to threats, and with good crew the reload is only 5 seconds!
if you can do all that I bet you'll do a lot better, but do whatever you want Germany's def more friendly to newer players if you want it easy XD.
Thanks for the advice! For now, I want it easy 🤣 at least until I learn the game better but I am grinding the USA as well as Germany and I'm starting to understand the Shermans a bit more!
@@GibbyGav No worries mate! Yeah you’re prime learning will happen around 500-1000 hours.
Sherman tank is pretty good
Panzer 4 F-short when! Or m22
Another tip from me don't waste your money on top tier unless that money doesn't have anything better to do
Soon! Won’t be the next video but I’ll definitely do some games with the Pz.IV F1 👌
Im at 6.0 now with america and the grind was patriotic
Its the best overall 3.3 in the game for me.
Man you need to get the M4 (just called M4) that thing is incredibly busted, youll love it
I’ve got it but I’m not a fan! Probably not utilising its strengths…likely playing it like a german tank and that doesn’t work 😂
@@GibbyGavits got very good hull amor and incredible turret armor, when about to get shot ,dont stop moving and wiggle, try to be hull down, and if not, slightly angle

Shermans are a little frustrating for new players because, on paper, they should be great tanks but just get constantly out-gunned and out-armored by its main counterparts (Panzer IV and T-34, respectively). There's no reason for them to struggle so much when you look at them in the hangar. They don't suck, but they just... don't feel very good to play. You constantly feel like you're being short-changed by the game when you play one. Your gun is fine, but not as good as German guns and can struggle with heavier armor. Your armor is fine, but not as good as Russian armor and doesn't actually stop the most common rounds that get flung at you. Your mobility is fine, but you're hardly a speed demon and most other tanks you're facing can go just as fast if not faster. That last one is particularly rough because you're expected to flank the enemy to be effective, but you don't have the mobility to actually pull off a reliable flank. It just doesn't feel good, or like it doesn't have a real niche to fill.
Once you get some experience, however... you start to realize the true power of the humble Sherman. They're far from godlike, but definitely can be considered an equal to the Panzer IV's they face, just in a different way. The Panzer IV is straightforward. Your armor is meh, but your gun nukes most things it hits with a handful of exceptions, and with those exceptions you just have to aim for a vague weakspot and you're golden. The Sherman is powerful more in "soft stats" than anything, which often require a bit more knowledge of the game and how it works to truly appreciate and utilize. It's about the flexibility of the overall tank, especially the soft power afforded to you by the stabilizer. The cherry on top is the .50 cal, which should never be underestimated for air or ground targets.
The fact they moved the tigers and panthers up in BR a touch helps a fair bit too. Nothing felt worse than having to fight tiger tanks in a 75mm Sherman. It's still possible now, but it's much rarer and you more than likely have more tools at your disposal to deal with them by then.
I’m definitely finding the stabiliser more beneficial than I first thought after using the Sherman for a good while! It was annoying to start with because even though I was able to take my shot before the other guy, I never knew where to hit him so that first shot was wasted.
Now I’m more clued up on where the weak spots are, I can make better use of that first shot and it makes the Sherman feel sooo much more usable
@@GibbyGav Glad to hear it! True appreciation of the stabilizer tends to come only after a bit more experience with the game, particularly after playing things that don't have it like the Panzer IV or T-34 (or honestly most other tanks at that BR and beyond). The Chaffee is another good tank using the same gun and still with a .50 cal but smaller and faster at the expense of less armor. Makes you more vulnerable to a lot of lighter tanks and autocannons, but not like a Sherman is stopping most German or even Russian tank cannons it faces anyway. It gives you the speed you wish the Sherman had with the same firepower and still with a stabilizer!
If you haven't discovered it already, a great way to really maximize the stabilizer is to NOT actually brake when you want to engage an enemy but rather simply step off the gas and let yourself coast. Usually you'll get very little if any bounce at all that way. I've gotten the drop on many a Panzer that way while they're busy waiting for their gun to stabilize.
The m4a1 76 w is so much better
But also:
recently gav said, "Best ears in war thunder" or something
Now he said "my ears have failed me💀😂
I’ll give that one a go!
Yes…I did say that 😂 and my ears very much failed me this time
@@GibbyGav Don't blame yourself too much with it. For the past few patches, the game's sound systems have been... extremely frustrating. You'll hear an enemy tank 5 blocks ahead of you as if it's just around the corner, but the second enemy tank flanking you 20 feet away won't make a sound until you're suddenly dead. It's quite aggravating at times, especially in a game where reliable sound can be the difference between a great game and an awful one. However, take solace that you likely weren't entirely at fault and the game might have decided to just not play the sound for you (or at least, didn't play it loud enough).
