😂😂😂
Thank you for doing this video. It inspires me, the labor costs have been the reason I’ve been holding off. Much respect to your Dad. Vietnam Vets are some off the best people I’ve ever met.
I have a 117 lowrider s and definitely feeling inspired.
Always much respect for your Dad. It’s great you are helping him with the VA. I’m a retired Marine also and I’ll tell you gave my medical taken care of by the VA is a huge plus. Being 20 years retired our health insurance is also covered and having never had to worry about is also a huge plus..
It’s a godsend for sure.
I am currently 90% fighting for 100% disability and was medically separated from the Air Force. I get all my stuff taken care of through the VA. The only thing that sucks with them is getting appointments in my area. Outside of mental health, anything else is at least 1.5 months or more out. I have been waiting on an allergist referral for 3 months
Doesn’t it feel so rewarding once you overcome all the obstacles? Great Job! Bike sounds great! 🔥🔥🔥
It really does. I have such a high right now!!!
@@ProfessionalMonkey
I’ll bet that you’re school boy giddy!!!
I have a 2021 street glide special. I put a stage 2 kit in myself with oil pump and cam plate. I watched Patrick from J&P cycles, he made a video and I followed it step by step. It was actually fun doing the install.
That’s one of my favorite videos.
Hey man much respect. I really enjoy the videos and you have rekindled the fire of riding and wrenching again, it's been a while. And tell your dad thanks for his service. Bless yall
Now you got the potato sound. It sounds so good!!
You almost convinced me that I could do a stage 2 on my bike, and then I thought maybe not. 🤔
😂😂😂😂 how ya been bud!!???
@ProfessionalMonkey been busy with work, been traveling a lot and it's not letting up. So I've been off the social media scene enjoying what family time I get. But We miss you guys Hope you all have a great Christmas, Love you guys
God Bless Dad for serving our country 🙏🏻 love the content and the sound of the cam is intoxicating
Thank you!
Oops..You must have been distracted by that nice Florida weather you have. I was looking over your shoulder admiring your weather. I live in Pennsylvania everything is grey and bare. I envy your weather as much as your bikes. Thank you for your videos. 😁
Thanks for watching them!
I have 103 twin cam I had great oil psi when I changed my cams . No issues and I have 14 psi at idle and as much as 40 psi at 3500 Rpm . I used my original cam plate and I oil pump with 50,000 miles . 2015 eltra glide .
Congrats on taking the plunge. I watched 100 videos first and had major butthole pucker when I cut the first pushrod out when I did my cam. No better feeling though than saying I did it myself. I kept the HD oil pump and cam plate. 21 Road Glide
Great video!! I did a cam upgrade 2 years ago in my 2017 M8, and I did upgrade to the newest HD oil pump and the S&S tappet cuffs......
On a side note, I haven't heard that "focus.... Both of us?" joke in 20 years 😂😂😂 well done!!!!
I’m glad you caught that!
Timing aside, massive props for getting into the motor like that. Great video sir
Thanks 👍
Good to hear that your VA is doing right. I am also a disabled Vet (Iraq/Afghanistan) and live on Long Island and ours is really good here.
Watching your videos and laughing and learning and doing some wrenching of my own is part of my therapy. So thanks for what your doing.
Thank you for your service bud!
@ProfessionalMonkey please tell your dad I said Welcome Home and I appreciate his service and sacrifice!

Just a curiosity question for you; what years were you deployed to Iraq???
I was there from February 2004- February 2005!
@@AzzKicker-bz1cb May 2011 to Nov2011 then Afg till March 2012
I wanted to do a cam in my bike for a while now, but just didn’t feel 100% confident doing it myself, now after seeing you do it and completely skipped the most important part and still didn’t wreck the engine gives me confidence to do my own. Thank you.🍻
The secret is to be meticulous and read every instruction 10 times. I rush and don’t pay attention by nature.
Don't be afraid to do the cam yourself. I've done cams, big bores and heads on Harleys with no problems, but I'll take my push mower to the pros as it's a bit more complex.
@@ProfessionalMonkey aren’t there a couple of dots to line up?
@@murrayhelmer8941 yup, I simply walked away from the job to do my real job, came back and put the sprockets back on. I just didn’t pay attention, and that’s when things go sideways.
@@ProfessionalMonkey ya. That happens to all of us
As you were talking about install videos. I was about to say JP CYCLES is with out a doubt the the best one out there.
Wow... very impressive you got that job completed!!! I think you did a wonderful job and taught us all an important lesson... don't skip steps!!! However, you did it and all is working great!!! Good Job!!! I don't think I could have done that job, but you showed everyone it could be done!!!
Your description of Jason's work impressed me as "poor man's blueprinting" -- not disrespecting the man at all . He is where I wanted to get to! Alas, bad joints, and not the rolled kind.
Kudos to you. Did a Stage 2 on a Twin Cam, not scary at all ( ok a little) but I had the same concerns you did. Another good one to watch is Kruesi Originals. Take your time, soak the tapets, follow the instructions, easy peasy. The second one on a Fat Boy was even easier and completed in a third the time. Again, kudos and great job.
Cherry juice! Seriously man this is good stuff, so much similarities and I've been watching you for a few months now!
First, congrats on the successful install!! It's not easy for someone to admit their failures and you did it twice. Good job on that too. The first time is always the hardest so don't be afraid to do it again, and again, and again. Next thing you know you'll be rebuilding motors. Your buddy Jason is correct, that is how you build in reliability. I like to think of it this way, the time you spend cleaning, prepping and double checking everything as you go is money and time saved when it breaks/leaks/etc.
It was awesome to work with Jason. His attention to detail was amazing.
Your “best practices” 😂was f-ing hilarious”😂. 20-30 years old, 100lbs lighter, have a lift. All great advice.
I live 20 min from Zippers! I can’t wait to install mine.
great video. good job. and your humor always stands out and makes it fun.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Definitely a learning curve great job bud! Love that sound
Appreciate the service from you guys. Salute 🫡
I put an S&S 475 cam in my SG CVO
When I pulled the cam bearing out, there was needle bearings missing. I searched around with a magnet with no luck. I was missing about 3 needles and a couple of casing pieces. I finally just put it back together and changed the oil. It ran frickin great and there was no noise but I just didn’t trust it. So after about 500 miles, I just decided to do a stage 4. I pulled the motor completely out and sent the bottom end up north for some upgrades and bullet proofing. I even pulled the pan off the tranny for cleaning. I never found those needles and after talking to a few experts about it, I just figured it came that way from the factory and must have got damaged when they assy the motor new. Moral of the story; if you are on the fence about a stage 2, just do it and replace that weak link.
That was the funniest ending to this video, that you have ever done. Great job on the bike bro.
Just watching two of your videos so far, I have solved a couple issues with my bike. Thank you!!!!!
Great to hear!
Bro…..hilarious. Great video. I am going with the same cam and you almost had me convinced to do it myself but you had me at me being 52 and sitting on the floor, lol.
😂😂😂
I just love your honesty, that’s why I watch you, I try to be a perfectionist Also, I have one problem I’m impatient. I’ve learned what my father has told me everybody wants to be finished before you get started. True words of wisdom I commend you on trying to do something new, but as you say, it’s also good to have somebody who knows how to do it the proper way to back you up ,not all of us have that, so that is why I have to go back to the dealer. Not that I want to but when I fucked up, it really cost to fix it right, so I might as well just pay for it and have it done right the first time. but love your videos thanks again.
I totally get it. Now that it turned out well I think I would do it again to save the money.
Great job! Learning is part of it...
Great video thanks for the time you put in to show us!
It is nice to have friends that are Masters at engine mechanics, I can appreciate your enthusiasm and wanting to do a stage 2 ,But I would have to pay someone because I know me ,I would screw it up, nice video.
Hell yeah another great video starting.
Now that you've done it the next one(s) should be easy. When it didn't start, I was sure it was gonna be because you didn't pump up the lifters before installation.(at least didn't show it.) You were very fortunate that the valve timing wasn't off far enough to create valve to piston contact. Good thing is, you'll never make that mistake again. Great job getting put of your comfort zone and getting the job done!
Love the "warts-and-all" content, brother! I will be doing a cam plate and oil pump on my 2017 RK soon! Good to know what not to do! 😝
Sounds VERY nice. Engines do run nice when they're timed correctly. Made that mistake a few times in my experience in building engines for my cars.
Just catching up, thanks again for being real and just wanted to say have a great new year and yes that hat rocks
Just got a stage 2 done on my bike up here in Northern California. Labor-$148 per hour. OUCH !!
Awesome video. I can say Matt at Those Dyno Guys in Pinellas Park is wonderfull. His shop is behind Cycle Rama.
I'm still riding my '05 Dyna and I enjoyed the video.
I understand totally, I broke the bolt on my tappet cuff flush with case. I know the exact look you had. Luckily so many people have broke it that they make a specialty tappet cover that serves as the cuff also. Expensive mistake but at least it only set me back a couple days. I got mine from fuel moto.
Good job, I understand the not wanting to bother people too.
It's call trial by error. I enjoyed every minute
Put your tappets in a vac jar to pump them with oil. If you have a vacuum sealer for food, chances are you have a jar that came with it. Tappets in jar with oil, vac it and watch the air bubble out. They are now pumped with oil.
Great job Monkey!!!
The only thing that makes that difficult is setting the lash for me anyhow, takes balls to do it,I applaud you Monkey
I find its a good idea to rotate the rear tire after you first get the cam plate bolts in finger tight. Then at 10lb torque, rotate the wheel a few more times. Helps center the cam within the cam plate. keep rotating and torquing until to full spec.
I'm not sure what it is but after 40 yrs of age the lying on concrete or sitting, just does something to your body that takes two days to recover from!!
Awesome video as always
Thanks again!
I did one cam replacement. Just took my time over the winter. Work 1&1/2 and stop….👍🏻
Another great video man. Always enjoy watching your content. I remember my first cam install and felt the same way but it turned out good. Then I got this strange itch and started doing everything. I almost enjoy wrenching more than riding….almost.
Gota nice chop to it !! Good job
you will be fine on your next stage two build!
I did a S&S plate and pump when I did my red shift cam swap. Power vision tune . Runs great, Sounds great, Love it!!
Awesome job really enjoyed watching ride safe and enjoy
Thank you!
thanks I will probably leave that one for the pros. I love the info on the needle bearing and the oil pump. I did my own stage one and a lift would have. been welcome for sure.
LOL Love the hat !! Been wanting a CAM update and would like to try to do myself .. Thanks for vid.
Go for it!
Outstanding video. This gives me a little bit of confidence that I can do this myself. I won't lie, I'll still be a little scared.
Awesome work Monk for a first timer !! I was telling myself I guess he did the timing well. Oh well. I was just like your friend when I worked for Jaguar Meticulous! Working on the old V12s was a nightmare, but when they ran, they left rubber! Keep up the great work !! Happy Holidays !!
You got that right!
Thank you, finally!!! I never do mods to my bike unless you have, cuz you know If you can anyone can 🤣, I can finally order my stage 2 now 💪
Ain’t that the truth!
Yes drink time lol I think yall going to have a blast with this bike can’t wait to see what it’s going to look like in the end
On my 22 Road Glide 107 that I put an S&S 475 cam in. I used the stock oil pump because is is better than the first Gen M8, and it is doing fine and works great. The Stage II upgrade does make more heat than the stock setup. I had to install an UltraCool oil cooler to keep it from over heating. I live in Pensacola and it gets hot here, you may want to look into this also.
You are going to love that RS 472 cam, I have it in my 2019 CVOSG-- I`m now experimenting with Star cam---hoping to get as much as possible out of the M* without installing a 131 motor. next you are going to need to upgrade the clutch basket and compensator :)---never ends!
Nice job. We all have issues sometimes. Keep up the good work.
Thanks, will do!
Good job brother....keep up the good work 👍☕️☕️✌️
Thanks 👍
He's right dependability is in the details
Great video one of my favorite
Glad you enjoyed it
Bike sounds great.
I did a Stage 2 on my old Road Glide Special some years ago ... never again. I would rather work extra hours at my job and have a professional spend 1/4th the amount of time and have the proper tools.
When I did mine , I got a buddy to help me and when he pulled the cam chest off along with the oil pump ,one of the gears fell out and needless to say it didn’t go in the way it was.when we started it , it wasn’t building oil pressure. We would adjust the push rods and they wouldn’t stay right because the lifters were sloppy from no oil pressure. Ended up taking it to a local shop to get it right. The gear from the oil pump was not put back in right!🤯
When I did my twin cam I removed the cam chest cover and I could see when the cams was on the base lobe.not sure about the M8. Very good video by the way
Thanks for this. I need to convert my 04 ultra Classic to Hydraulic Cam Chain tensioner in the spring. After seeing this I might tackle it myself 😱
You can do it!
@@ProfessionalMonkey sure hope so. Bought the special tools
Lol, I'm in my 50's from Missouri, in Phoenix going to MMI!!!
She sounds so sweet now. Nice job there Mr. Monk.
Lol, man you’re easily distracted, Lol!!!🤣😂
Great job on busting ya cherry with this install. Thank god for Jason.
Right? He saved my bacon.
Good job man.
Thanks!
Man I wish I had the balls to do a cam job. I promise you I would screw it up so badly I'd be down at the dealership having them fix what I destroyed. Luckily the OldWing doesn't have this as an option! Great video sir!
Thanks bud!
Dude, if you ever try out Freedom Shields, you will never use a different windshield again........GUARANTEED!!!! Another quick tip, if you remove the left side thigh heat protector, keep the one on the right side, it WILL help your bike run cooler and you will feel less heat. This eliminates the air that's being stuffed behind the aft cylinder and lets it all come out on the left side. It's something you can actually feel. Good call on the pump and cam plate. The flow and pressure is much better than stock. Very glad we didn't see any bent valves on this girl!! AWESOME video as always Monkey!!! Thanks for keepin it real!
Thanks, bud. I have heard about the heat shield thing. I might have to try that!!!
It actually makes a difference you can feel, appreciate ya Brother!@@ProfessionalMonkey
I did a review of that red scissor jack. It's awesome, I love mine!
I think the only one who cares about the background noise is CZcams content creators. We all understand your outside.
Yeah always pump up lifters and oil holes face each other or they are junk before the engine starts. Tip on chasing thread lock, nobody talks about that super important. Thanks brother.
Nice work Monk, glad nothing happened and you had the sense to stop trying to start it the first time, funny thing is I was wondering after you put the pump and plate back in it you didn't mention at least lining up the timing dots on the cam and crank sprockets and when it didn't start I figured that was the problem.. in the end your just one step closer to refining your own oil for the smoke out chopper build....lol. Cheers from the Great White North.. PS.. your right working on the concrete floor SUCKS HUGE
A very good one to watch is Kevin Baxter,on tear downs and rebuilds , like your show I watch him weekly,a very wise engineering program for Harley lovers
Kevin Baxter is the man. He’s forgotten more before lunch than I’ve learned my entire life…
Thank you 👍
Great Job Bro!!!! I had ALL the faith in the world in y"all!!!!! We all make mistakes and you had the balls to admit it and put it on tape. BTW... if you do decide to do the custom bike why don't you do it to honor you Dad and his service. Keep up the great videos and be Blessed!!!!!
I appreciate that
Wow - it sounds like you really know what you're talking about ...🤣👍
I enjoyed this video👍🏽
Glad you enjoyed
Not sure if its the same for M8's finding Top Dead Center before cutting push rods but with Twin Cams everybody always sticks their finger or a straw in the cylinder after removing spark plug, or they rotate the tires and watch push rods movement etc etc.. all you have to do is remove the cam cover which you have to do anyways and rotate the tires using the timing mark positions for exact TDC.
I’m going to do a stage II to my midyear production 2019 FLHTK . I was told the latest oil pump started September of 2019, I bought the SE pump & plate just in case. Leaning towards the Star Racing 30/30 cam.
If I can make an appointment with Jason in about a year when I’ll be ready to do my stage two and I can rent him for some assistance I would appreciate it 😃
You should take it up to Matt @ Those Dyno Guys in Pinellas Park, FL for dyno tune.
Always good to hear a good VA story. Semper Fi old man!
Getting out of your comfort zone is what leads to growth. Now you can say you've cracked one open.😊 Sounds good!!🎉
I just had a stage 2 in my 114 and parts and labor came to 2500.00. That included the turner.
I must be a Magician because when I take something apart and put it back together I usually end up with extra nuts or bolts!
Weight reduction!
Btw love the exhaust note
M1 Abram’s love it
Thought to myself “huh, he never talked about timing.” “Surely he did tho, probably just didn’t mention it in the recap”, and then it didn’t start. 😮
That’s me, freaking rushing all the time.
I went with the stock pump in my '23.... No regrets.
Back in the day many many moons ago when I was 18 I worked for an engine development company in the UK and had the opportunity to build my first car engine from scratch, bare block up. Guess what I did..... instead of putting the timing marks TOGETHER I lined them up with the marks on OPPOSITE sides of the sprockets so making the timing 180 deg out... guess what, motor did not fire up!
When you went to start your bike and it didn't fire I knew exactly what you had done, you was so lucky you didn't hit a piston and bend a valve, you don't need a motor to run to do that!
