I'm a Midwife and Neonatal nurse, who has worked in Neonatal Intensive Care Units in 4 countries, over 35 years. Its a hard job and a blessing, both at once.
We care, for sick babies (needing surgical and medical care) and extreme premature babies from birth until their discharge home.. And care for babies before, during and following their deaths, and their parents. I lost 5 babies, ( 3 @ 8 weeks, 1 @ 10 weeks, and 1@ 18weeks ) They found that my miscarriages were due to low levels of progesterone ( the hormone that maintains pregnancy) I received progesterone injections, weekly, throughout my other 2 pregnancies and we now have 2 wonderful adult sons, who we're so proud of. Im now also a Bereavement Counsellor , with a Masters degree, who works to support the Bereaved parents in my care.

1991, I lost my only son at 38 weeks due to HELLP syndrome. Back then, it was like 1 in 10K burths. Now, unfortunately, it's more common. I was devastated and still have PTSD from it. My nurses are the one who saved my life, they lost their own ICU nurse to HELLP 2 weeks earlier, and her baby lived. I have empathy for any prenatal or birth loss.

I just knew from the beginning, like a 6. sense that they would come too early😢 Today they are 2 years old and healthy. They are a bit small, but keeping up with every thing else❤

I must say Emma is a beautiful woman both inside and out. Her husband is a very handsome man and he seems like a sweet guy too.
I have had 2 miscarriages myself. I wish that in the late '90s in the US there was some kind of bereavement counseling. It was not just hard on me but also on my husband at the time. To be quite honest I don't know if they have anything in place even now in the US. In so many ways the US is far far behind the UK in women's health. I am thoroughly enjoying this series. Thank you!

So many folks in the comments here misunderstanding the use of the term rainbow baby. It makes me very sad as a momma to two rainbow babies.
A rainbow baby is a baby born after a previous loss. It is meant to be like the rainbow that appears after a storm. Or, if you're of a more religious bent, it is meant to represent God's faithfulness and mercy, like God sent the rainbow to Noah. It is an entirely appropriate use of the word rainbow.

Emma, sooner or later you would have to face your loss. I had a child pass 4/1991. I can tell you it gets easier......it doesn't. But you go through so many years ( which is normal ) out of no where it will sneak up on you and think, I dealt with this loss years ago. And life will go on, you'll remember that it's 1 year that you thought of his passing. That's when you'll realize that it's been a long while since you were conscious of his passing. I promise it can all be what you believe. Evently they will be less. When I got to a point when I realized....he's inside me ( not in a weird way ) but instead of looking in my minds eye, where is he? I'm a believer in Jesus Christ so naturally I believed him to be with God but I was jealous, he's my son I want him with me. Eventually I could feel that he wasn't gone but he was with me, even though he was with God. I have the memories that he shared with me.
Please try to look at the time of your pregnancy when you knew the whole part of him....fell in love with the.

In the US women are now not only consulting for the best nutrition [possible and using pack to detox their breasts they are detoxing their entire body prior to getting pregnant to improve their chance of giving birth to a live and healthy baby. I feel so fortunate that both of my son's were born safe and sound; both 8 lbs and 21 inches long. I was a Lamaze Prepared Childbirth mom so both of my son's were born without any medication and breastfed. This was my priority.

You're entitled to any type of birth you wanted. As a midwife, though,I feel it's essential to reiterate to other pregnant women that THERE'S ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG WITH HAVING PAIN RELIEF IN LABOUR. It doesn't make you worse as a person and , those who labour without drugs aren't deserving of any extra accolades! My first labour was 38 hours, with my baby in the wrong position. I had an epidural to assist him in moving , and assist me! My 2nd, I fully intended to be open to any eventuality!! As it happened, I had a very quick labour this time, so no time for pain relief. Both are absolutely normal and OK!!!!!

You can be the most physically prepared mother in the world and still lose a child. Being in good health is ideal simply to support the body. Claiming that detoxing or being on a special diet or WHATEVER (outside of actual medical care from a doctor) can help you prevent a loss is uneducated and harmful to loss mothers.

I’m sorry, but losing a pregnancy at 7 weeks is not that bad…. Many don’t even know we’re pregnant at 7 weeks. It would be a “blighted ovum” situation.. simply a disappointment that it was basically a false pregnancy… a hiccup.
We should understand the process better, and to be thankful that our bodies are able to clear out non-viable zygotes. Understand the science and rational process. You’ll feel better.
Also, it’s annoying when the fathers get subtle digs about being weak, or being only a “small part” of the process. Their genetics and DNA contributed exactly as much as the mother. The babies are theirs just as much as the mothers’ babies. The cheap shots and the overblown sensationalism is annoying.

    • @yociciii
      @yociciii Před 7 měsíci

I’m sorry, but have you personally been through it yourself? It doesn’t matter how far along you were, or how long you’ve known for. A loss is a loss, and it still hurts knowing that you have lost something that could have been. When you find out you’re pregnant you start to imagine what that child will be like, you get attached and then it’s ripped away from you. Maybe think first before posting such an insensitive comment. Tf is wrong with you

    • @greenbrain8725

@@yociciii yes I’ve had 3 miscarriages, all before 11 weeks. It taught me that chromosomal abnormalities are detected by this point and the body does what it needs to do. Sad, yes. But all part of the process. It taught me never to get my hopes up, or tell family members, until I cleared the 13th week. It’s part of life. I realize this program wants to sensationalize the birthing process a bit. I suppose I’m a bit too pragmatic for most.
