Solvalou are what the ships are called in Xevious ! "2 SOLVALOU LEFT" :p
Can't wait to see more of these John, your refurb/rebuild videos are awesome...
Dude, that's awesome! Thanks for subscribing. I think Pac-Man is one of my top five favorite games. You can't really get anymore classic than Pac-Man! FOR SURE! It's such an uber-classic!
John is defiantly doing a good job of taking the mystery out of fixing games up step by step witch is a real good thing. Thank you john! This mean more people be will buy and will be willing tackle (take on the task) of repairing and restoring games. (im glad you use me suggestion on showing guts of the cab) :)
How brilliant is that, you could of just gone with the fact that you fixed the chip but no, your honesty got the best of you. Hats off to you fella
"whatever goodbye lets go to the basement" 😂😂😂
My wife thinks I'm crazy but I love this show. I kept yelling at the screen "test the harness!" which in the end you did . So far you've spent more time getting the Ms Pacman board to work than actually restoring the Pacman machine lol.
This video is fantastic John! Thank you for showing the ROM reading/writing/erasing process. I need to buy some equipment apparently.
Loving this video...so much I subscribed to a channel for the first time..I cant miss this restore, I'm so there with you in spirit.
Hey John! Loved This Video A Whole Bunch! I Learned A Good Bit Of Stuff About Swapping, Burning ROMS For Pac Man & Other Stuff About Pac Man's PCB Board & Erasing Chips Data. I Love Pac Man, It's Probably My Favorite Arcade Game Of All Time! When You Plugged The Pac Man In A Few Times, I Was So Exicited To See What Was Going To Happen! Glad It's Working & Awesome Vid! And Hey! I Subscribed!
I sit and watch all these videos man, you'd be a lot of fun to live by.
very very interesting to watch!! subscribed! thanks for sharing your hard work
Great channel and series of videos! Very informative.. Thx.
I love your laugh John! :D It makes me happy!
great video. Just shows how time consuming and trial & error restoring old arcade machines can be. Watching this makes me want to restore an old cabinet. If only I had the space to store one in my apartment
GREAT TECH VIDEO JOHN!!!!
So, I have an Rygar with the same problems (reseting and probably a fault on some EPROMs), your video gave me a clue how to solve, better, how to start!
Thanks a lot!
Cheers.
Augusto.
Awesome! Let me know how it goes!
Sure, I just need some free time (that is, if my wife let me go to play) :)
another great restore vid, always awesome
Very interesting to learn how you do all that great vid :-)
great vid :) Im learning a lot about old arcades.
It would not only give retro-gamers a reason to watch the History Channel, but also educate everyone on the good old days of video games, especially before the Playstation/Xbox/Wii era.
Keep up the good work. I love how you explain everything as you do it instead of cut to it works. Very interested in seeing your cosmetic work on the cab . I'm a mame builder and would never dream of gutting an original cab for mame it just doesn't feel right to me. I build my cabs from scratch for mame and think the real arcade cabs should be left and restored as original as they can be. I played on these cabs and love seeing someone bring them back to life. When will part 4 be out?
Thanks, buddy!! Yeah, the rom burner is an essential tool if you ask me! I use it much!
Actually, I am glad you bent that leg John! Learned alot!
That's cool John. Thanks!
Thanks, bro!! I really appreciate it!
Hey buddy, this is coming on really good, love the trip to Adam's, been following him on Klov and both his channels. Looks like your yoke has slipped slightly which will also be causing your minor convergence issues, release the clip after the purity rings very slightly and twist gently one way or the other, be very careful - lots of voltage going through the windings, once picture is level, sort your convergence rings.
INTERESTING!! All my arcade friends just call them "CUSTOMS" and I've just went along with it. :) Makes sense, really.
The length of these videos is going up exponentially! I getting behind! ;P
I know this is a couple years old, but in case it helps anybody reading I just want to point out a couple things that I think could have been done differently to save that 2532 that wouldn't fully erase:
1) The window might have been dirty from the old glue (unless you cleaned it off camera). A dirty window can cause situations where most of the chip erases, but part of it doesn't get properly exposed to the UV. If you keep trying to erase through a dirty window, it can end up ruining the rest of the ROM that had more exposure.
2) According to the error message, there was only 1 bit stuck. The eraser sets all the bits to 1s, but this chip had one bit stuck on 0.
In that situation you can try just programming the chip as it is. You have at least a 50% chance that the bit doesn't need to change, and so the fact that it didn't erase won't matter. The odds are especially good in a case like this where the old and new ROM files probably aren't very different from each other, so most of the bits won't need to change.
I've gotten away with this on an old 1980s car ECM - 1 of my chips has a stuck bit but it still "works" since I've never needed that bit to clear. After programming, it verifies as correct.
Thanks, man! Glad I could make you happy with my ridiculous laugh! LOL! :)
Cool road trip.... would've been cool when you were driving if you used the soundtrack from "mike Tyson's punch out" when little mac is in training...LOL thanks for posting, learned a lot!
Wow! The chip was good the whole time! XD
Thank you, sir! I really appreciate the support! :)
I really enjoy all your videos. Nice to learn how you burn and erase the roms. Keep the great videos coming. Could you use a switching power supply for this pac man cabinet. Just curious.
Fixed! Thanks! :)
Dude loved the long video, learned so much. The rom burning was exactly what i wanted to learn. Only thing that was not cool John you didn't show how you fixed the monitor playing with the yolk, i'm having the same problem:(
Sweet! THanks! :)
I hope more people take on these types of projects! It's the only way these classics will be saved from the garbage dumps! :)
btw, that weird geometry may be not the monitor but something in the garage. It may change its behaviour when you move it to the basement, it may even change its appearance after you fit it to its proper GO7 frame.
42:45 probably the most hilarious personification I've ever heard!
I can't wait for the next video my pacman monitor has the same slight image tilt issue and I've never found any place that addresses a way to correct it. But anyways great video as always John.
Sweet vid John, does that board save high scores?
Nice video, just wanted to mention, i check my roms using a mame rom crc file checker think its called romident. Also them big capacitors dont look like the originals that should be on the board
You should do a tour of your basement when you finish the Pac-man because of all the new games you have.
You should get a minipro TL866 if you haven't already. A cheap Chinese USB ROM programmer you can get off Amazon for like $50. It's a little wonky but works.
Thanks for subscribing! THANK YOU!
Question if the daughter cards pop out easy wouldnt it be easy to just solder them onto the board or do they fail easy is why they arent
Thanks, Scott! I have noticed they arcade manuals now too. What's up with that?
Well, that's it then! Your phone is haunted! :o)
And, it's.... FIXED! Thanks for watching! :)
It would be cool to see Ms. Pac-Man in Pac-Man.
Who's whistling there in the background at 55:28 John? It doesn't sound accoustic like your voice, pretty weird. Could be some kind of EVP ;)
Great vid, love the pac man restoration, keep the vids coming!!
Thanks, man! I feel it's more educational to show all my mistakes. Cause anyone can make these same stupid mistakes! :)
get a flyback tester for the sprint2 monitor. Caps and resistor that are toasted are feeding into the HV.
Interesting. I have heard that those two toasted components are very commonly fried. Not sure if it's flyback related.
i hope video that John or make a video enplaning the wedges and glue and stuff like that :)
John, please do a "Let's Visit Adam's" video!
I'll show the yoke business in the next video.
Thanks for subscribing!
You are welcome - Parabolic :D
See - im watching!
AHA!! You're right! :)
John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech 1:34:10 ME TOO JOHN!
So, I was thinking this past weekend. Wouldn't a show about old school arcades be great on the History Channel? I mean, you have shows about movers...about pawn store owners...about people who bid on storage spaces...
Why not a show about searching for, reviewing and restoring video games? (Especially with all these retro barcades opening up around the country)
Yes, BOSIE!! Are you coming?!?!
If you look, it wasn't the same in ALL variants. I think a lot of them were bootleg versioins that solvalou didn't cover. No? Cause I noticed that main version of puckman was not listed as the same as the Midway version for those roms.
Hey John, Are You Thinking About Doing A Review Of Your Mario Bros. Wide Body?
I have already done a video of my Mario Bros widebody. I did it a LONG time ago and it's not very good. Today I will release a more in-depth video!! STAY TUNED...
Hey john, before you do anything else.. where are you going to put the pacman machine at in the basement?
I need a Ms. Pacman Cocktail monitor 19 inch Wells gardner any suggestions or replacments
I would look on Craig's List for junk games that you can steal the monitor from. Or, just check ebay. They are out there.
You guys started watching before it was done processing. It's good now!
I figured it out you need a non conductive varmit spray that's made to rid electronics of gremlins your issue is def gremlins no doubt you are welcome sir

Hey John - nice job so far on this project. I can't wait to see the next vid.
By the way, any chance you can gives us the name of the Hong Kong seller? I am trying to restore a Frogger and it would be helpful to find a trusted seller. Thanks
The quest is on... the pac-man must be fixed
Also Emuparadise is more reliable than CoolRom,because downloading is faster and easier. CoolRom also almost always has legit ROMs.
Eddie, when I get the samples I will share who the seller is.
I don't know just yet! :)
45:49 Mosquito Cameo
I will absolutely be doing a video of Adam's place! (assuming he is cool with that!)
40:58 What's "New puck x" and why does it use a pac-man rom?
you're good at soldering, if not a little heavy duty. i notice you don't blow away the smoke as standard procedure. you should do that as you solder to lessen inhaling the stuff that is harmful to your health.
Rewatching this series. Get a bit sad hearing about Arcade Outsiders. Hearing about first Grinkers is awesome though.
I turned the yoke and fixed most of that issue.
Hey John! Can You Review Rolling Thunder By Atari At FUNSPOT?
now it works
What happened to the SuperSprint?
Not by default, no. I'll be taking care of that, don't worry! :)
Or hell, go one better, get this guy a show on Discovery or the Science Channel. Those guys at Discovery always make a killing on stuff like this!
Hm, why did romident say that your roms (6e,6f,6h,6j) was the same in all pacmans and later solvalou.com say they were unique for the different pacman variants?
Someone just gave me the proper 13" G07 frame. Gonna put the monitor in it ASAP! Wouldn't that be great if it fixes it!? :)
That was my phone. :) It was an alert.
Solvalou is the name of the ships in xevious
i was about to say that
Xevious, cool game
Roms are now available on Archive.org.
why didnt you use the roms from the screwed up board?
I think because of the sprites, they were booting Ms. PAC-MAN sprites, so he used the other ROMS.
It always stuck in my mind. One of the reasons I kinda dislike that game. I remember as a kid going "wtf is a sovalou" lmao
It's Hermaphroditic Pac-Man! I wonder what the interlude scenes would look like with the game screwed up like that.
1:07:14 -- "Presss any key to continue"
Apparently that software was written by a snake. :P
how to adjust the yoke
that pac man has a heart beat 45:30
nice vid
John, you might want to fix your blog link...
Thats lunch time sorted lol
I don't think it's a good idea to solder a daughter card to the socket. It would be very hard to reverse the work.
