Thank God I’m not the only one who likes this car! I’m really hoping this car gets a good aftermarket community
It has a meh one right now, either you have to get some universal parts, or very few specific parts. There is a turbo kit, suspension, fuel system, but not much in terms of things like differential and transmission upgrades/mods without doing full swaps
@@azhule4041 I hope at least the full swap gets a bit more attention! But I definitely wouldn't mind some more attention to the base engine itself! I was going between the GTI, R WRX and this and having been with toyota for a long while, I just couldn't jump ship.
Now a gr Corolla is out 🙏
This might be one of the best daily drivers on sale today.
Just got one about 2 months ago and I couldnt agree more. Wont replace my Miata as a weekend car by any means but 6speed manual hatchback thats fun to drive and good on gas is a recipe for fun.
2019, 2020 or 2021? Any of those are good right?
@@LouHemi I just bought a used 2019 with only 16k miles. SE trim. Its not the manual it’s the CVT but It’s amazing. Most fun daily driver I’ve ever had, even shifting through the simulated gears with the paddle shifters is so satisfying. Looks great both inside and out and the 2019s also have CarPlay, radar cruise control, lane keeping, all that good stuff.
@@LouHemi not to mention I’ve gotten up to 50 mpg on the highway with it
@@krab9479 dangg I just got the new corolla sedan. But yeah next time probably the hatchback I just need sunroof on it and all the hatchbacks don’t come wit it. Probably nezt gen or something. But thanks. Appreciate it
TOM'S makes a pretty sweet quad-tip exhaust for the new corolla hatchback. I'd love to see it on this car!
I listened to the video of the TOMs exhaust czcams.com/video/G70Xls6-Gw8/video.html and what’s with th the popping noise?
This hatch is one of the most sporty - looking modern hatches and I really wish Toyota would make a more sporty model from the factory. Maybe a TRD? If they would stiffen it up a bit, maybe add a turbo or a better N/A motor, add a true functioning exhaust outlet and lower it a bit I would definently buy one. I'm excited to watch this project cause this hatch has a ton of potential. Stock from the factory it just feels like this car is only half - complete
Yes. Like the toyota matrix xrs and the pontiac vibe gt with the 2zz-ge!
I agree I think it's a great looking car it's just a shame that from the factory you can't get a better na motor or turbo option. This has been my issue with a bunch of corollas in the past.
I agree
Yea, I agree with all of you too. I mean, at the price point they're selling at it wouldnt cost us or them more to push out a sporty model. I'm thankful that we're still getting hatches in the US specifically with manual transmissions. The only two other hatches I'm interested in and would definitely go for is the Hyundai Elantra GT Sport or N-Line and the Kia Forte5 GT but in the US we don't get the Forte5 😭 if this just had a little more horsepower 30-60 more I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Plus they'd be in GTI territory if they went with 60+ more HP. This car is targeted at Gen Z kids with good Mommys and Daddies that'll buy them this as their first car. Not for the enthusiast and I think they got that wrong. Idk why manufacturers push out sporty looking economy cars but dont actually give any gusto to them.
David Dawson "gusto"? you mean guts? It's easy to provide either power or economy but very hard to do both not to mention Toyota reliability which is huge. So: compromises
Hell yeah. Been wanting to see one of these modded. Low-key want one as a daily
Edit: Damn alot of people seem to agree with me😂 Dec
I also make car content if you want to check that out
me too lol
Maybe as a used bargain in a few years.
I got one and it hands down is amazing
You dont need a low key. It has push button start

All chanting:
*MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD*
I almost bought one of these - there's a lot to like about it, but I ultimately ended up going with a 2020 Veloster. They both have an excellent suspension setup, but the veloster was more practical in terms of space. This still looks like an awesome car and I hope more enthusiasts realize how solid the corolla is for an affordable daily that's still fun.
Love the new Veloster as well good choice. Also love these, love that both have manual options.
Excited about this one. Love a modded economy car.
To remove the automatic parking brake you just have to press the button like 3sec and that gone ! 👌
I'm really happy to see someone tackling this car and putting a little effort and thought into spicing it up. I applaud you for taking the project on!
I'm one year into owning. Currently sitting on RSR Super Down springs, 0 toe alignment, SPC camber bolts up front, Progress rear sway bar, and TRD intake. It's such a good chassis for cornering, I can't keep it off the back roads. Not to mention it's has 2 faces. Driving it to work/school/running around it is civil, and doesn't encourage you to drive hard. But throw it into some corners, and it's a new beast. A proper tribute to the 86 Corolla.
Before I got my ND2 Miata I seriously autocrossed a ‘09 Corolla (consistently PAXed in the top half of a 80 driver field). Modifications I did: 225 RE71R tires, custom Carbotech AX6 front pads, max negative camber in front using OEM adjustment bolts,TRD rear sway bar, Schroth Rallye 4 harness. The main trick to getting the car to be balanced is to LOWER the rear air pressure to 18PSI. There isn’t much weight in the wear and the stiff sidewalls didn’t complain about the low air pressure but the car just really liked low air pressure in the rear. And keep the RE71R tires under 100f
I greatly appreciate how wholesome this channel is compared to other car channels on youtube.
David H'ee yeah, no screaming or dumb skits. It’s pretty refreshing.
I just bought the 21 XSE m/t. So fun!! Love it. Already started to mod. New wheels, RS-R superdown springs. More to come!!
no economic torque dip between 2500-4000 rpms!!! Very nice!!
These are honestly great little cars, driven quite a few since I work at a Toyota dealer and I really think they’re great and since Toyota is starting to TRD some of their cars I really believe that they could turn this into a hot hatchback to compete with others in the segment
Going from sport bike track days to doing some track days at our local tracks in the Corolla my daughter and I are doing mods too. This series is fantastic. Hope to be hitting a track this summer
Looked at the title and thought “meh doesn’t peak my interest really” watched the entire video “looking forward to the next part!” Great job as always guys
This Corolla is amazing! Its awesome cooling and its reliable and its actually fun to drive. Now how about a mazda3
I love my 2019 XSE manual!
I love my 21 XSE m/t!
Yesssss! I want one of these cars so badly. I've been waiting and waiting for one of the big car channels to start modding one. I'm so glad to see you guys entertain this idea! I'll be glued to your channel with updates on this!!!!
I'd like to see the 2020 Mazda 3 manual next. It's a driver centric car that should be a blast to mod... Maybe build a TCR comparable
Ad or not, don't care. This is actually really good all-around car. And it looks sweet. Good chassis and engine is good canvas for tasteful mods.
So happy to see you guys do a build for this! I picked up a 2019 hatchback 6 speed
Love this I can’t wait for people to start modding this car
Killing it out there! Great video as always looking forward to the next one.
I literally just bought the special edition version of this car and love it only thing that disappointed me was the fact it was cvt and not manual and i tried to find one but couldn’t so i just went with the cvt
Looking forward for this series ! stoked !
I love the cuts to the front bumper cam during the laps. Great job, guys.
I'd look at the standard. Intake exhuast reflash for e85. Coilover with some bracing. Brakes and I'd throw in an oil cooler if needed on these engines, lots of new Toyotas pull timing when they get hot.
@RespectFreeSpeech GiveMeMuhFreedom that's disheartening.. Maybe it's time to coherese the locks gas stations into investing in a pump or two
Aren’t e85 gains pretty measly on NA-4cyls?
Thanks fellas, I got one too. Looking forward to details on wheel sizes and offsets. Go the Conti!
I’ve been waiting for somebody to exploit the potential of the Corolla Hatch. I always had a sneaky suspicion that the Corolla Hatch is hiding a beautiful platform to work on.
I’m subscribing just to see that process lol.
I love these things. Still imho a little under powered for the price. At 26 for xse in my area I can get a lot better car but once they've dropped into the 15k range i'll surely pick one up. That or if the bump it up to be as premium as the Mazda 3 hatch. Also no SUNROOF BOO.
this is In my top five for daily driver. Can’t wait to see what you guys do to it
I am excited to see the rest of this series. Nothing like modifying a daily vehicle and attempting to make it as sporty as possible. (:
Going to love this series👍keep it a good daily with some fun injected.
Im so keen to see this build come together. I've been considering one of these myself, but the lack of aftermarket options at the moment has me hesitant to pull the trigger on the purchase. Still got that modding in the blood.
i’m a huge fan of how the new corolla looks. looking forward to see what you guys to do this to make the performance match the looks
I think it's very cool to see you guys build a newer (and affordable) car! One piece of feedback, though. If this is sponsored by Toyota, just call that out like you usually do. If it's not, call that out too. It's easier to digest the content and understand any kind of possible biases that might be present.
This is going to be awesome. We just got this exact same car. Color, manual, and trim level. Not sure if we are going to be doing anything to it. Maybe you guys will change my mind. Really excited to watch the magic happen!
Pumped as hell about this. Please fix their terrible design decisions on the exhaust.
Springs/struts, Large rear sway bar, bolt ons/tune, 17x9's with 255 200 treadwear tires, and brake pads/fluid. Probably drop a good 5 seconds.
also been waiting to see these being driven hard. started seeing them on the street this year and they honestly look like really nice packages
Hi fella's, my first new car was a 79 Toyota Corolla two door, I think it was a 1.6 litre. I had a sunroof installed and a kick'in cassette stereo, six speakers and removed the stock wheels and installed four slotted wheels. But barely enough engine power too climb a six degree hill but the price was right for a young fella right out of college $ 5200.00 and change taxes in.🇨🇦
Option wing is actually awesome. We fitted one in the dealership I work at in the blue. They are such cool looking cars for what they are
Strongly considered one of these, but my old Fit is still running like a champ, and I want to focus my money on my project now. Before the Pickup came along, this was going to be my replacement for the Fit, though. Same colour and spec, actually.
Can't wait for next episode
The XSE actually looks pretty cool. See a ton of them here in DFW. Excited for this series
So excited to see you guys having a Corolla to mod! I had the same car!
I daily one of these, and the parking brake will actually disengage automatically if you have your seatbelt on and put it in gear and begin to drive normally
Big yes I plan to buy one next year!
currently own a 16 scion im. Very much wanna get one of this. I really like the way it looks.
It screams for bronze te37’s, good tires and a roof wing!
3k for wheels might be a bit too much for a daily😕
@@hamzaakgoz7678 subi owners have entered the chat
HAMZA AKGÖZ wheels should be about 10% of the value of the car.
@@iDayVids maybe but this is just a "track friendy" daily drive, i personaly wouldnt pay more than 1000-1300$
HAMZA AKGÖZ a used set could be found for under 2k
Nice work with the camera angles and that race pack will be cool to see used on more track test cars. If they let you use it.
I really dislike those massive screens dominating the modern dashboards. Looking forward to more content on the car though.
Love this 😍
These look so good 🥺
I'm glad you all like this car! It sure looked cool, but I was very suspicious of the "sportiness" considering it's a Toyota Corolla. All one if these needs is coilovers, maybe camber bolts, wheels+tires, and an ECU tune for an OEM+ feeling.
Always thought the new corollas looked good! Really excited for this build
Awesome to see the corolla getting some track time, wanted someone to build one of these since i heard about the possible 2020 GR corolla, I also 2nd wanting one as a daily . . . . Maybe one day.
That's my dream daily for sure i love this car hope you do a good job with this one
Great start to the series! I had one of the new Corollas as a rental car recently. I was shocked at the level of equipment included in the lower spec model. Lane departure mitigation, radar cruise, Android Auto, and lots of other stuff thrown in for a really low price. The rental car was a CVT which robbed some of the fun, but the car handled sportily and was screwed together surprisingly well. It will be interesting to see where you end up on the mods to keep it a comfortable daily but extract a bit more punch from this "warm hatch".
i recognize that drive home from tmp, i havent done it in a long while. i cant wait until spring to do that drive in my 240, cause that means i finally get to drive the crap out of it!
Dope daily!!
All my other cars are manual so bought the auto and I must say I'm impressed
i looooooooove this Corolla
I drove my friends a few times at autocross and I feel this car has quite the potential to be a fun performer. Needs supercharger also
TOYOTA JUST BRING THE YARIS GR TO USA....OR TURBO THAT COROLLA OR PUT THE 2.5 CAMRY ENGINE THERE
The 2.5 camry engine would make this an absolute weapon. That engine goes pretty fucking hard even in the camry, with the weight of this it would be very fast.
This is a dope concept...harkens back to the times where you would get a cheap fun econo box amd let it rip
Super Street made a niiice corolla hatch in red. RSR coilovers plus rims, some front and side skirts. Looks so cleeeeean and sporty once it's slightly lowered. 👌
I really want to put a small turbo in one of these🙄
I've got a 2020 se sedan with the 6m always looking for inspiration and ideas. So far I just have a custom cat back exhaust.
I have one And I’m kinda disappointed but I came from driving hot hatches but as a everyday daily driver it’s great but aggressive driving it’s a corolla still...(2019 xse hatch manual)
ALWAYS mod
Was at a Toyota dealer the other day. There's a TRD Camry now. I have to admit, it was kind of cool. I dont know how they drive though.
I like these cars. Looking forward to this mini series. You should do enkei pf05 or rsf5 wheels. Would look sick on this one
Ls swap it lol ! great video guys, curious to see how this project turns out, cheers
Thanks for the great video. I'm coming from a 2011 VW GTI that was totaled when a tree branch fell on it in a wind storm :-/
I'm picking up my used white 2019 XSE tomorrow and I'm excited. I went with the CVT even though in the past I've only owned sticks. However, for highway stop and go in Boston where I live, the adaptive cruise is much more useful with the automatic, especially for the low speed crawl and merge. So, I'm sad I'll no longer be driving standard, but some day I will get a project car :)
Would throwing it around on a track be almost as fun as the 6 speed?
To resist rolling, why not add a stiffer anti roll bar instead of changing the springs and dampers
Ill keep my fiesta st but im curious what you guys do with the car i love toyota i wish they made a true hot hatch so this intrigues me
High five Fiesta bros!
The Yaris GR4 is supposedly a 1.6 Turbo with AWD, so maybe youll get what you want sooner than you think. But its not coming to the US, lol
@@ahhh6201 so i wont get it at all is what im hearing but hey fuck it more good content
Actually this car looks sick
I drove this with CVT and it was hardly "Warm Hatch" .. My initial impression was good based on looks alone, I cant wait to see what you guys do with it performance wise!
get it all wheel drive and real parking brake, and we are gold!!!!
I have a 2019 XSE hatch, great little car. I hate the infotainment system and the lack of any storage space anywhere in the interior, but other than that it's a great comfortable DD with great MPG.
Tires and a rear sway bar is really all you need on daily cars like these and not sacrifice much of the comfort and daily-ability.
Nice build! I'd love to see more unconventional cars on the track, because I have one(Q50 AWD with VR30DDTT). No one tracks new cars, let alone modify
MOD everything!!!
Mine looks just like this right now and I want it to looks like the one at the end of the series pretty soon
This is one of the few cars like this that I have actually lusted-after, in a long time (*besides the KIA Forte GT, which....you can get a dual-clutch trans. in). The local stealership currently has a loaded-out 5-door XSE in the Black Sand Pearl color (with the lil' spoiler that was mentioned), and it's to die for.
I have yet to see any reviewer not like this car.
Gotta' get some better sounds coming from that engine, though!
I love the new design and hearing your ideas for the exterior, I can't wait since I would do the same.
You guys mentioned the wheels. How about some RPF1s??
OEM optional spoiler is a must!
track battle -- ('20) Toyota Corolla Hatch vs ('20) Mazda3 Hatch; manual in each. develop stage packages, put the same tire on them and go at it head-to-head, time attack style. Each car has great potential, but are held back by their intended daily driver status. These could be soooooo much more than a daily driver. Set the up for B-spec/Touring Car B racing (minus the roll cage) and go to town. Show ppl what these cars are capable of with (simple) bolt-on parts. You build; I'll watch.
Nice!! Exciting... :-)
MOD! I like the shape of the new corrola, very sporty looking, but it does not come with a strong enough power
Yes! Suspension mods?
Gazoo racing is watching for ideas!
In europe there is A GR Yaris toyota that is supercharged would be nice to make this inspired by that. 😁
Well its about time corolla hatchback has potential
you guys should go with the the eibach pro-plus suspension kit for it
