Ok I just picked up mine today... at MSRP, used but practically new at 300 miles. Apparently the first owner got it, got buyer's remorse and traded in for a rav4. God bless him, I'm having a heck of a time. It's a white loaded core model, has basically everything I could ask for, plus extended comprehensive warranty.
Do you find yourself missing those torsen LS differentials? I don't think I could have a car without LSDs.
Don't fret, like the Golf R, it seems the GR can get crazy power with mods. If it was available for MSRP when I got my Kona N, I would have gone with the GR.

Watching Linus basically reviewing a car is the weirdest thing to me. It's like when you have two VERY different friend groups who suddenly meet each other and you're not sure how you're supposed to act or even feel about the situation😂

I'm a hard-core car guy so obviously I watch a lot of car stuff. I also watch reviews that are more into details. But I like that you guys are doing your style car videos. A break from the norm. I would have a hard time buying this too with markup but can appreciate what it is for sure.
Now they are becoming more readily available at MSRP, at least in my area. Blue Flame circuits seem to be a bit more rare and I am picking mine up this weekend with a small markup (~2k) but I''ve been waiting since the car was announced to get one so I'm more than happy with that. Core's and Premiums in my area seem to listed with little to no markup though, and those with markups seem to not be selling.
It's worth nothing the dealer was going to wave the markup if I traded in a car, but I was not planning on that.
Bought my Core 2/23, 41.5K (US). I called a LOT of dealers. Happy with the car, coming from WRXs from '02.
I always find new perspectives on car reviews interesting. It's interesting to see techies talk about cars, because they focus more on experience than typical car specs
As a car guy, the saying of “it’s more fun to drive a slow car faster than a fast car slow” rains true especially with Toyota GR lineup. They are absolutely phenomenal vehicles, considering what you get
True, but it’s pretty absurd to call a series of 300HP 3 banger hot hatches “slow”, these cars are not slow.
They are ok, but not for 55k. I used to own an Evo8, Evo10 and a few WRXs and those were priced appropriately. M3P is way better for that kind of money. 11.5 1/4 mile and still a blast in the corners. Not so fast it's scary/you get yourself into trouble like the Plaid, but fast enough to have fun. If you want a similar experience, just get a WRX or Golf R and save your money.

The dealership problem is only getting worse I’m glad some people are being in attention to it
Markets are flooded with empty money that people didn't earn. At catalogue retail price the demand is higher than the supply, so the price increases. If prices are law restricted, you end up with no cars to buy at all, 2 year queues or full package variants only available. There's no way around the market laws, which is what we all should already know after the pandemic period.

My mom went to get a minivan, 33k msrp. But actual price was 55k. Base model. 20k miles. All new cars are 10 months out. Toyota BTW.
with as busted as the car market is and as dealerships are in particular I don't see why anyone would willingly buy a new car at this point. Even the used car market is messed up, but it's nowhere near as bad.

Linus is low key a true car guy by accident. It doesn't need to be fast, just fun and it's cool to see someone like Linus really understand that.
linus just never had the expendable income to be a "car guy" so it was off his radar. now that he is in a different place financially he is branching out and knows he doesn't have to justify having a car "Just for fun" He's always been into motorcycles which is basically car guy adjacent but motorcycles cost much less.
With his money we'll see him in a S15 Rocket Bunny very soon.

Yes, except the lack of knowledge about turbos lmao. 25psi is NOT a concerning amount of boost when the OEM built it that way. If it came stock with 15psi and was tuned on 25psi later it would be more of a concern 🤷♂

@@Fertro exactly my point, its about turbo sizing.. if the turbo is small enough it wont cause lag but will need more PSI in the top end to still make power. this is common knowledge among us tuners.. a simple google search would explain it; but to him it was concerning.. that is funny to me lol

More details about the engine, torque, hp, displacement, curve, materials and how does this engine differ from a standard model.
Gone over the intake system a bit more, is it naturally aspirated, turbo, compressor?
And just in general actually go over things. He just pointed out that there is an engine and it gets air from a hole. Amazing.

Alex very quickly became my favorite member of the entire LTT crew, even when im not interested in a video, if Alex is involved, its bound to be entertaining and/or informative so i will watch it regardless and i havent been disappointed a single time

This video is well produced. A lot better than some of the other tech and/or automotive garbage that's out there.
Last auto show I went to Toyota was really the one big disappointment I saw. Admittedly I'm taller than Alex but the interior space in any of their cars I sat in was very disappointing and not particularly comfortable for me.
This is the reason why I still keep my 1998 Ford Escort ZX2.
It has a feeling of connectedness to the road that newer cars just can't emulate. A feeling of solidness and mass, yet being extremely nimble and quick. Being able to feel the engine deliver all of its 130 horses in a short-ratio gearbox, without the police down your back.
That is what makes driving fun. Being one with the machine, not just riding inside of it.
I had a ZX2 all through high school, and it was the car that made me “love” driving. I’m always on the hunt for one in great condition.

That is the biggest problem. That GR Corolla is definitely a dream car for many that saw Initial D but it's hard to get that car for a reasonable price from any car dealership.

my first car was a 3-cylinder Hyundai Getz, a small and quirky car that was quicker than it looked and the roar it made when you really stepped on it, was so much fun!
I've had multiple cars since then and my latest, is actually a return to what I have missed. A Hyundai i20 N-line, the Getz's replacement, with rally inspiration. It has 100hp on 3-cylinders and a roar like no freaking other, it is just a ton of fun and I can heartily recommend it! (and if you have the money, go for the i20 N instead, for the 200hp model and even more fun)
I have driven faster and "smarter"/"cooler" looking cars, but they honestly weren't anywhere near as much fun in daily driving. My i20 N-line is fun at all speeds, whether it be 50 or 150kmph+.

GR is the biggest blessing that toyota gives to us car enthusiasts, and the history behind GR is super cool that I think it deserves a documentary
GR is kinda weird, though. Toyota should have kept the *TRD* branding for ALL their performance cars (think TRD Celica, the TRD rallying Corollas, or the JGTC Supra era) since it has so much more history and weight, instead of creating this weird new brand and locking TRD to their pavement princess trucks…

As a Focus RS owner, I'm THRILLED to see Linus in a hot hatch! I do think he'd feel a bit more at home in the newest Golf R or even GTI, though.
The GTI has a horrendous infotainment system though. All touch screen and impractical/non-intuitive.
As an owner of a manual '16 golf r, I disagree. I don't think he would like the newest gen golf r. The information is trash. I think he, like most people, would prefer the mk7 or 7.5
As an Mk6 owner, a golf R does scratch all the performance + practicality itches. Tech, however, seems to have been an afterthought; even for ten years ago.

@@ThroughFallenEyes As an owner of a mk7.5, I would agree. Prices of the mk8 are crazy (a dealer near by called me wanting to sell me one for $69,000 CAD).
That said the used Golf R market is crazy right now, the same dealer wanted to buy my car for $30,000 with 120,000km on it (and you can be sure they'll turn around and try to sell it for 40-45k).
It's kind of wild seeing all these tech CZcamsrs and guys with money going back to fun sporty ICE vehicles from their expensive fancy EVs. It really does say a lot.

I'd say that if you are talking about them going way over MSRP i can't agree. I do agree that it's both a bad thing and extremely damaging to both brands and consumers. However, it's very much the flip side of us all beating them up to way under invoice for years. It sucks but it ain't shady or a surprise unfortunately.
Now if you're talking switching orders, forcing products, etc i 100% agree.
Its really a shame. Unbelievable that in the "land of the free" car manufactures are LEGALLY required to sell their cars exclusively to dealers. Its an entire industry that is there for no fucking reason and its costing us all billions of dollars.
That being said I have been looking at the new Prius and there are people out there finding them at MSRP. Just takes a lot of time and a little luck.
The driving experience sounds similar to that of the Abarth 500, and is the exact reason I just bought one, so much fun in such a tiny ball of a car.
I've driven that car in Assetto Corsa (an older model year probably), and that car can really be a blast! So many faster cars in that sim, but the Abarth has character and it's fun to learn on and drive at the limit.

And yeah, many people underestimates how quick it can be, but as soon as the turbo charges, it pushes you forward like a damn hammer, it's so fun, specially in the highway lol.
the best decision LTT has ever made is showing Linus' personal things (like his cars and stuff) on the main channel, even though they have seperate channels for car reviews.
As a car guy who's into tech myself, its so refreshing to see a perspective from LTT towards cars! would be so unique to see Linus & Team to dive into these automotive segment in a tech perspective!

for me, the REPAIRABILITY is the most important part. and will always be.
Toyota is part of the "Alliance for Automotive Innovation" that put out an ad a couple years ago saying right to repair will lead to you getting sexually assaulted in a parking garage. Modern day Toyota is not pro right to repair. If you want that, get a used one.
That's the only real issue I have with EVs... they're completely locked down. It should be mandatory that after, say, 5 years their entire software platform is unlocked for third party vendors.
Toyota is throwing that out the window lately. The parts for this car are extremely expensive ala carte.
to note, if you go into sport mode and turn off traction control, it turns on expert mode which might help u slide it better

I really like the discussion about buyers experience in this video, giving people an idea of the pain points of trying to purchase the thing on review is such a consumer friendly move and I hope it continues.
Neat little car and looks a lot of fun to drive, but probably one of those you'd want to wait for a refresh on to get the previous years model at a discount imo, to save having to suffer the obnoxious dealership bollocks and get the car in a more timely manner.

FEEDBACK: I love this. I got confused twice because y’all spoke about different features and quickly changed clips. However, I thought you were speaking of the car you were in and was confused when I saw a Chrysler and VW logos. I guess I’m used to watching car content where the vehicle is said out loud if speaking of a feature on a different vehicle
I had a 2001 Suzuki swift and it was a little gem. It was so hardy I left it out in one of the worst winter storms here in the UK for a month. When the snow had all thawed the car started first time.
When Alex really gets into it, I just smile and nod. Glad he’s enjoying his role as “the car guy” lol
I would totally love more car videos done by the LTT team. This was a really nice change to see.
One of the WORST things that Canadian car dealerships will do to you is sell you an anti-theft "VIN glass etching" thing (charge you $400 for it, 10 years ago), and lie to you and say that "it comes straight from the factor with that on" (when it CLEARLY doesn't), and then telling you that you can't opt out of it.
I HATE dealerships.
I absolutely love the car content and would love to see more of linus and the boys reviewing these new cars that are supposed to be marketed towards enthusiasts.

Alex's car knowledge is as impressive as his PC and engineering. So happy that Toyota is still building cars like this alongside the EVs. The Yaris is already a cult classic; this might end up the same for those who can't get its little brother.
I wanna know more about their sound knowledge and what exactly the EQ graph means. I don't think I've ever seen them review a product where it matches their "baseline" curve. Do these companies not test the products frequency response? Do they not tune it "properly"? Can they even do that or is it hardware dependent? Or is this baseline curve LTT always uses meaningless? I feel like it's the latter, because I highly doubt not a single sound product out of the dozens if not hundreds they've reviewed, hits it spot on, yet there are plenty of sound products that sound great.

@@pcmasterracetechgod5660 companies don't really make it so flat for obvious reasons regarding the average user, and sometimes companies don't even care much. Not being at their baseline curve or flat doesn't mean its not gonna sound good, it just would boost/lack some frequencies at certain areas, making it not as accurate as a flat sound, which isn't a big deal because it's usually not as enjoyable as a v curve or just boosted bass.
@@pcmasterracetechgod5660 real car guys rip it out and install a real sound system. LTT missed the point of the Toyota it’s a sports car and as such the sound system is a secondary thought.
As some one who has done sound offs it depends on what you want, bass is easy in any car but clarity is a steep learning curve, the seats, roof lining, parcel shelf, dash etc all effect the sound moving around and manufacturers don’t care about this as it requires money to get right. Many install good components but it will always suck in one regard.
@@dingleberries360 I usually watch all LTT videos I can but I refrain from watching any of the car reviews because they don't know anything lol. It''s like they reading from a brochure and I don't blame them. There's cool tech inside and you can review it sure but as for the car review itself, well it sucks because they're not mechanics or racing drivers or at least reviewers of a lot of brands. They think teslas are cool too and that EVs are the future so that kind of nullifies their opinion a bit.
I like how manuals are slowly coming back because people are realizing how much more engaging and fun it makes driving.

@@YoungShul I mean, sure, there are a couple of them, but it's not many, unfortunately. GR Yaris/corolla/86, the Miata, Golf GTi, Integra, Civic, M2/M3/M4, 911, Cayman, Hyundai's, Nissan Z, and... that's it off the top of my head. Okay, you know what it's plenty to choose from yet, but honestly I think that aside from maybe the Toyotas, some Porsches and the Miata, these won't be around as manuals for long. Toyota is actually working on inventing a sort of fake manual for their future EVs (which I'm not really a fan of tbh), but you bet that companies that aren't that traditionalist, like BMW or VW will ditch the manual and act like it never existed the moment they deem it unnecessary. In fact it's a miracle they still offer it since it's such an extremely tiny segment of the market.
I would love to see more car content like this! id love to see you try something like the new Golf GTI or Golf R !!
Canadian tuner HPA has even built a few VW Golfs with a 2.5 VR6 engine with 550hp. Would be a cool video.

He complained about lane assist on a car, saying he was in the lane. Meanwhile the footage literally showed his tires going over the white lines on inside turns. So I can't really take him seriously after that.
the gr corolla is definitely one of the best modern cars and the motor is insane. its had around 700 hp pushed out of it on stock rods, pistons, and crankshaft
Turbo triples are the coolest modern compact car engines and they sound awesome!

That GR's frequency response graph doesn't look all that bad, it's a bit nitpicky. I bet the majority of people watching this have a sound system in their car that is much worse and the majority are probably also wearing headphones or use desk speakers that are much much worse.
I love everything about the Corolla, especially the GR, but I just wish this car was 15k cheaper and actually available as an occasion in my country. Its 46.000 euro for a new one. That's 67700 Canadian dollars btw. And per Linus's last remark, I can't justify a purchase either. I might have to settle for a second hand regular Corolla, which is also a fantastic car to be fair.
