  • A funny take on being stopped by Dyfed/Powys Police for going too slow on our motorbikes!
This is where the power of CZcams comes in to expose this waste of Police resources, surely in 2024 (OK this happened in 2023) the Police have got better things to be doing?
Just one point to answer a few comments, the camera is fitted to my mirror, I’m not holding it!
I don’t think it’d be possible to ride and hold a camera without crashing👍
    Enjoy.

There was no reason to issue a ticket, having stopped you, that is two sensible riders he has now successfully alienated a huge section of the motoring public against the police. In 1990 I was pulled one Saturday Morning while travelling at 60mph along the the A55 N.Wales & it was fairly early, around 7am as I was out running in a new GSXR1100L, carrying my wife as pillion - it was an unmarked car & I immediately recognised it as such from the aerials & light clusters in the rear window, I pointed to it while informing my wife & that clearly infuriated the traffic cop - there was no other traffic on the road & I initially approached the car from the inside lane while he was occupying the outer lane travelling around 40mph - I backed off & pulled into the outside lane, flashing my main beam, to which he responded by braking & coming to a stop in the outside lane, holding me behind him - the conversation was heated & he accused me of riding too close to his vehicle (I didn't), I countered with accusing him of baiting me to undertake, his partner calmed things down & I eventually went on my way - he had a brake light out BTW 😐

This will go on a bit so I apologise in advance but anyway, about 20 years ago I bought a Honda fireblade which was damaged so instead of fitting new lights so I just fitted cheap race fairings. Because there were no front lights on the bike it had a "daytime only mot" which was fine for riding in the summer and track days. One Sunday evening I was riding home when I was stopped by two members of the Norfolk cunstabulary. They stopped me for not having a headlight, my response was obviously "it's not dark" they tried to tell me that it was a legal requirement to have a headlight so I asked them how it passed an mot? They got increasingly mouthy and refused to accept that the bike was perfectly legal and eventually decided to get vosa. By the time vosa got there it was dusk, the guy had a quick look around the bike and said it was fine, the copper even tried to argue with him but eventually had to admit defeat. At this point it was dark, I had no phone signal and I was 20 miles from home so I asked plod what They were going to do about getting me and my bike home and they just shrugged and said it wasn't up to them to get me home! I remembered passing a house about 500 yards back down the road so I pushed the bike down a pitch black country lane and onto the drive, I knocked on the door not knowing what sort of reception I was going to get but the lady of the house answered the door and immediately invited me in. I relayed what had happened to her husband and while I used their phone to call my wife, who by this time assumed I was dead, the guy emptied his van and we loaded my bike in it and he drove me home. On the journey he told me that they'd been burgled several times and police were completely uninterested, even accusing them of insurance fraud on one occasion. When we got to my house he helped me get the bike out, came inside for a cuppa and helped passify the missus them left refusing to take a penny from me, not even to cover his diesel. I already knew what the police were and nothing I've seen since has changed my mind.

If they declined to accept guilt and thus the caution (no, it isn't a rap across the knuckles and getting away with it), then there's a good chance, based on how ludicrously trivial the alleged offence was, that it would have been thrown out as not in the public interest to go to court and if it did, there's a reasonable chance of being found not guilty (mindful the video isn't very clear on what was actually claimed to be unlawful, apart from claimed lack of maker and safety markings on the plate).

I live in Ontario Canada, where we no longer have tax discs. The tag, as they were known, used to be stuck to the back number plate. HOWEVER, Ontario bikers are now being pulled over by State Troopers, in the US as they expect to see the tag. I understand this as the scanners simply tell the cop of an infraction. Most of the time, the serial criminal is let go, but some are being cited, which leads to an enormous waste of time, as if you enter the US with this hanging over your gas tank, you are in a world of hurt. This is called progress

Last time I got stopped doing a fair bit over the limit on a rural road in Hampshire, I pulled over took my lid off and the cops face as i was in my late 50's at the time, was a picture he was expecting some young tearaway on a GSXR, in fact he complimented me on my riding, but said I just kept it nailed after I'd overtaken a slow car "all true" but the difference was he was polite and even friendly stating he was also a biker, I think there's the difference you got pulled by a non bike riding "anti bike" traffic officer, with some clear issues about bikes on Welsh roads. I was on a CG125 Honda riding to my station, I was a firefighter based at Sunbury on Thames, my route to work was from Harrow through Greenford, then head towards Hounslow, Feltham and Sunbury.
I had just approached the big roundabout under the A40 at Greenford when traffic cop in white Land Rover came around the roundabout, looked at me waiting at the junction, and then pulled over. He got out of his vehicle and signalled for me to pull over.
He came to my bike and asked me to remove my helmet, I did this but underneath my top lid I always used to wear a black silk balaclava for warmth in the winter months.
I removed this as well and the coppers eyes went like saucers. I wasn't a black guy as he obviously thought I was, I asked why he had stopped me and he actually said "you looked too big for your bike" 😅

the reason they do that is because of the cameras. They all try it when they've got nothing else. The justification is that insurance companies consider making CZcams content, because it can be monetised, to be a business use of the bike hence not covered under an SD&P policy. The way around this is to state that the cameras are there in case of an incident involving you or your vehicle. It's then on them to prove that you're not using a latest-model Go Pro or Insta360 or whatever, as a really expensive dashcam.

I was a bit concerned at your statement that it's illegal to wear a tinted visor, as my helmet has one built in (that I can move up / down as required)... so I looked it up. Here is the result of my search:
    Tinted Visors:
You can wear a tinted visor during daylight hours.
However, according to UK ‘Fitness to Drive’ rules, avoid using tinted visors at night or in poor visibility.
Mirrored visors are generally considered illegal, but road-legal Pinlock-style mirrored inserts are available for most major brands.

    • @mattbikes46
      @mattbikes46  Před 17 dny

Interesting point about built in visors, I really don't know where they fit in, I wonder if there's an exemption for them as they are technically fitted with 2 visors - clear and tint.
I think with the external visors some are legal (very light tint) but the darker ones are technically illegal - however the ACPO guidelines are don't prosecute during daylight hours.
The law is clearly a bit of mess, makes you wonder if it'll ever be re-visited.

That's interesting, many years ago (30plus) it was the opposite. Traffic cops cared and just wanted the traffic to flow smoothly. I remember being stopped several times around London and just got advice and a little telling off, never a ticket. That taught me to be respectful and to recognise the cops as friends. Very sadly, that is no longer the case. Ego is the biggest problem, they need to remember that they represent the law, they are not the law and that they as individuals have no part In the job they do. Another word that they should have tattooed into their sole is professionalism. Far too stupid to separate themselves from their job.

We explained to the officer that the 30 limit was not a target and circumstances of that moment dictated our speed. The young cop said we were driving too slow for the conditions while popping his head as close to drivers side window as he could. So we told the young cop that several streets back there were a herd of Great Orme goats demolishing a hedge and some stragglers of that herd were on my road with their heads poking out between parked cars. The young cop says I didn’t see them. I said “no wonder 💭 officer as your car was so far up the ass of my car you would have struggled to see my number plate never mind goats. He of course wasn’t amused. I told the officer that his real reason for stopping us was his hope of finding a drink driver. I also informed him that he stopped us without due cause as his reason for the stop was based on a false premise. I told the officer that he should therefore let us get on with our lawful business or state his reasons for continuing to detain us.
