  • Five motorcyclists are to face a disqualification court hearing after a police officer riding an unmarked Honda VFR1200F reached over 150mph following them on A47 near Norwich in August last year. The force says their speed was recorded at 140mph 'by means of a follow check in a calibrated police vehicle'. Read the full story here: www.visordown.com/motorcycle-n...

I agree with most of your sentiment, however its not a case of the Police not wanting to do anything. Believe me what annoys the public annoys police officers. Its a case of resources. This is a factor in the amount of police officers in total, the amount then trained to a level they can knock people off mopeds, and then its a case of having enough vehicles and time to follow up on this rather than deal with other types of crime.

If they aren't trained to go high speeds then why were they doing it? Maybe that's why they get pulled over. Yes the officer was at fault for the blind spot and closeness, but it's hard to be concerned about what might have happened in a high speed chase if they don't know what they're doing. If they weren't comfortable doing 150mph in a chase they wouldn't do it just mucking around

Harry, you have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about! Police riders go through a 5 week training course, hundreds of hours learning how to ride safely at speed. That’s on top of the fact that they also MUST be well experienced, fully trained TPAC police car drivers, which is a 5 week course, on top of another 3weeks advanced reps;once, which is on top of a 3 week standard response course. In fact they will have, in their Police career, have had thousands of hours driving a police vehicle at speed. You, on the other hand have absolutely none of this training and think it’s ok to speed on a public road, putting yourself and others in danger?! However, I can assure you that the Police take uninsured, unlicensed, motorcycle thieves VERY seriously, there’s just too many of them and not enough cops too deal with them. You need too understand that there’s a MASSIVE difference between riding at speed to catch up and stop a motorist, than a pursuit. A pursuit is 100 times more dangerous that what you’ve seen on this video.

@@King-Arthur-The-First evening and thanks for your reply. You raise some valid points so I shall try and answer. Firstly yes I do ride and have done so in all weathers. I understand what you say with regard to him hustling to the front. Whilst I cannot answer for his or her actions as I don’t know the officer, you have to appreciate that the officer is on an unmarked bike, so perhaps that’s why they wanted to get to the front. His riding to do so is not dangerous, but people may consider it was because it was an officer. If it had ‘just’ been Joe public, I doubt any eye brows would have even been raised. With regard to the best things on two wheels I would always say someone else is better but as a general rule of thumb, to ride at speed in urban areas and de restricted etc at speeds above 70mph no one is better because you the public I mean haven’t had a 6 week course 7 hours a day 5 days a week and at speeds above 70 mph assessing all hazards which advanced police motorcyclists have. As for a race, really? I think this discussion worthy of better content. I am pleased to hear your friends are all so good at riding. If you really are committed to riding quickly and safely go on a Bikesafe course it may just save your life. And just for the record I’m a retired police motorcyclist and instructor for cars. Why a major hurry to get to the front to perform the stop without patience or skill?
The officer was riding in an unprofessional manner and from what i can see there is no need for it.
I totally understand if the police and those people that train the police think they are the best thing since sliced bread, but I'm sorry if I am bursting that bubble but you/they are kidding yourselves.

I don’t want to sound sarcastic. You are keen and express your opinions well. However with regard to how police officers ride and bubbles being burst you base that on your abilities of someone only trained to ride on public roads at 70mph. If I recall correctly, police driving with emergency lights on are exempt from some traffic laws (speed limit, requirement to not pass a red light). They are not exempt from the requirement to not drive dangerously. But in practice a court is likely to find "I was taking a necessary risk to reach the scene of a crime" a persuasive argument. Also, it's unlikely to get as far as a court, since the police are usually the ones bringing a case to the CPS, and people have a strong aversion to charging their colleagues.

Funnily enough... they get taught how to drive, or in this case, ride, at high speed, and have the legal authority to do so, provided they can justify their actions.
We're becoming a nanny state country, where people rush to the aid and defense of those who are knowingly doing wrong, and instead question the actions of those who are employed to enforce road laws, are trained to a higher standard, and ultimately must justify and account for their own actions.
It's a bit like comparing your average car driver to a police response driver, half of the people i've seen driving can't even drive at 30 properly without being overly-cautious or going unnecessarily slow, they'd be awful police drivers. Hence the training they are given when they go on their standard/advanced driving course, this is what allows them to do it.

In theory any bike can be overloaded with crap and blue lights have a sit up and beg pilot and called an unmarked police bike.
If anyone like your friend or me lol was to out run said machine then the speeds you quote will do the job just fine but must be accompanied by a professional level of late braking (rear goes very light and no front lock up because of your choice of machine rubber and competence & stay of stuff like chevrons covered in gravel etc) staying calm and focused are your best tools. not having your bike registered to chosen home base essential also
      😉👍 🏍💨

How do you know there's no blue lights on? I note there was a flashing blue LED on the display, which may be indicating that he has in fact got them on..?
If the lights were on, it would probably be slightly lower at the front, if the lights were up by the screen then everyone would see them easily and it may as well be a marked bike at that point.
Also, no law, states that police must use lights and/or sirens to make use of their exemptions, this is a common misconception and it simply isn't the case. They are only used if to NOT use them would hinder their progress, and also to afford some protection to the driver or rider should there be a collision, as it would go in his favour that he had the warning equipment on.

All this video shows is that the bikes were doing about 80 mph when he "caught up" with them - lead guy was "making progress" as bike coppers call it, but was keeping it 80-90 by the look of it. The only one really doing anything reckless here was the police rider, especially at 1:10 where he lost control of his vehicle to the extent that he crossed into the outside lane of passing traffic whilst flapping his left arm around!
