Thanks a lot for sharing!!
EC always beaitiful - rain or not and, the food ...😋
You are very welcome. Ecuador is always beautiful. It stole our hearts the first day we landed on our exploratory trip in 2021.
@@ericandsandy 😊 And, the country and her people, have already stolen my 💓 and I still have to wait almost 2 and a half year but, I'll be there...counting down and down and down....😊
Maybe I could ask a whale to take me there...high speed 🦈 🤗
Thanks again for sharing....
Appreciate your time and efforts in vilcabamba....eventually.
Hello...Vilcabamba is on our list. We can't wait to visit it. Actually it was a place on our list to live but we did not want to purchase a car. Thank you for watching our video and hope to talk to you again. Have a beautiful day
Beautiful Video, Thank you for sharing and loving my country, which is also your country, as an American you are also part of this little piece of the American Continent.
Thank you very much. Loja was such a beautiful city..we can't wait to stay longer next time. We truly do love Ecuador..it is heaven on earth to us. Many blessings to you and your family for the New Year.
Good video from Loja , wonderful city, I will visit next month, thanks for share us.
It is a great city. We enjoyed it very much. Have a great time there. Thank you for your support. Happy New Year
Finally watched the whole video!! Great shots of Loja!! You got to see more of the city than what I thought you did 😁👍 congratulations on over 1000 subscribers!! Keep it up!! 🎉🎉🎉
Yay!! We had such a great time, we always do. Glad you got to stay a bit and thanks for the 1000. We are so excited about that. See you soon.
That kind of tree is called Ceibo , is protected because they are almost disappeared.
They are so beautiful. I researched about them and they literally are the tree of life. I like how they store water until the dry season and then they share the water with other plants and trees around them, giving and sharing life. Thank you for watching and the information on the trees being protected, they didn't have that in the articles I read. Have a wonderful day.
OMG, 🇪🇨🌎🙏👍
Fab video! Loja looks like a nice town. Did you rent a car or hire a driver for this trip? Congrats on your subscriber milestone! 🤩
Thank you. It was a really nice town. The vibe was very relaxed..we can't wait to go back for a longer visit. We didn't rent a car.. our friends were going to Vilcabamba for a weekend visit and they knew we wanted to go to Loja so they invited us and dropped us off. Thank you again for watching and talk to you soon. Have a beautiful day.
I’ve heard that most of the power downtown is underground and you don’t see wires overhead. Haven’t been there but it’s on my list of things to see.
We didn't really notice the power lines until we went back and watched the video. You think I would have noticed, seeing I was looking up most of the time checking out the spanish moss in the trees. 😁
I didn't LOJA was so beautiful.
Gorgeous!!😍😍
Great video! Loja is definetely on my bucket list.
Thank you. It should be, it is so beautiful there. We can't wait to get back for a longer visit.
Goog video,, thanks for visit my city
We loved Loja and can't wait to come back for a longer visit. Thank you for watching. Have a beautiful day 💛
Glad that you liked my city. I hope it wasn't too insecure, given the current circumstances in Ecuador
It is beautiful. We're going to be going back for a longer visit so we can explore more. Thank you for watching our video.
Your sarcasm is as good as mine!😅 "We live in Cuenca and know basic geography doofus!" You can't say it like that, but I can! Great vid of Loja. Definitely on my list. Glad you chose Corona; you would look awful in a pink dress!😂 One of your best vids. Thanks!❤
good ones, Jack!!!
Haha, glad someone gets my silly humor. Loja was really cool. Definitely need to spend more time there exploring. Thanks for the compliment, Later!
Good video showing various areas. FYI: Loja is the epicenter of the Canton. There are other small cities and towns throughout the region, but if you need agriculture equipment, lumber, construction materials, etc., Loja is the place to go. And, nearby is the 'Loja Airport' although it's actually located in Catamayo.
Thanks for the info! Did not know a lot of that. We can't wait to have a longer visit there. It's so beautiful.
Congrats on the 1K subscribers! I've been watching awhile ( Subscriber but first time posting here ) and I'm enjoying your travels in Cuenca. I hope to retire there soon, but honestly looking at Loja I will definitely need to check that lovely city out!
Thank you so much. We were so excited when we hit the 1,000 mark. Loja is such a beautiful place...we are planning on another trip there...longer so we can explore more. Thank you so much for watching, we truly appreciate it. And another thank you for commenting..we love chatting with our subscribers. Have you done an exploratory trip to Cuenca yet? Talk to you soon. Have a wonderful day.
I think I know who your random commenter was. I have watched all those other videos and you're right. It may be that I've watched so many videos from you guys and others that they all just seem to blend in after a while. Still, it seemed to me that the vast majority were in Cuenca. Glad you got to Loja. Looks like a beautiful city. Loja is the city that has gotten my attention the most in my research for my upcoming scouting trip to Ecuador. This was a great video and has been a great help. Thanks!
Always glad to share any info we have. CZcams was a great resource for us checking out Ecuador, and other countries, before making our decision where to expat to first. This is a great country and we plan to share our journey. Thanks for watching our videos and getting my silly humor. Have a great day!
The two tall poles in Parque Central are flagpoles - one for the Ecuadorian flag and the other for the flag of Loja. I'm actually surprised they weren't up and flying when you were there.
Thank you so much for letting us know. We hope the next time we go to Loja the flags will be on. I'm sure it's a grand sight. They are the tallest flag poles I've ever seen. Thanks again and have a wonderful day.
Nice snotty reply, ERic.AS a former New Yorker I appreciated it immensely.😜
Always here to provide a good laugh and facts.🤣🤣 Glad you liked it.
@@ericandsandy Have you guys been to Mindo or Banos yet?
Not yet but they are on the very top of the list.. soon..I can't wait
Loja Is beaitifull, i like a gallinacuyada dish
Loja is very beautiful. We can't wait to go again for a longer stay to explore more. I just added that dish to Eric's list to try. It sounds very delicious. Thank you for watching and have a beautiful day.
So beautiful, thank you for sharing guys❤
We are glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for watching. Have a great day
@@ericandsandy have a great day guys!! 🌸
Vilcabamba is beatiful too
That is what we have heard and can't wait to visit there as well. Thank you for watching and have a beautiful day.
Other videos I have seen of Loja were not very flattering. Thanks for showing all the nice pedestrian areas. Makes me want to visit.
Thank you. It is such a beautiful city, we can"t wait to go again..but this time a much longer visit, so we can really explore everything Loja has to offer.
🍀🍀🍀👍👍💕
Eric & Sandy, the hanging tapestry in your video was made in San Pedro de Cajas (Junin region, central Andes in Peru)
Thank you Jose. It was such a beautiful tapestry we couldn't resist to purchase it. Thank you for watching our video. Have a beautiful day.
It could be interesting you visit Peru . I am guessing that Cajamarca and Chachapoyas are the peruvian version of Loja. You can get there by land going across the very safe border crossing between both countries
Did you have a driver for your trip to Loja ? Great video
Thank you. Our friends dropped us off on their way to Vilcabamba. They knew we wanted to go to Loja so they invited us on their drive. ❤️❤️
Awesome video Thanks guys, I live my life vicariously through your videos, I can wait to come home again.
Thank you, that is the nicest compliment. We are so glad you are enjoying them. If you have a certain place, restaurant anywhere that you would like see, please let us know and we'll try to get there to video it for you. Thank you for watching and hurry back home.
Giminy-H-Cricketballz Eric, "randomcommentingperson" 😅😂 You made me spit out my drink. Bhwaaahaahaha! Love the video, now I gotta go check Loja out too. I moved to Cuenca in October & ahem....need to get out more. Yeah. s" ok I'm with ya on the shake rattle roll ya! A bit scary. 🙄. I was today years old when I found out we are in a seismic region. I could have sworn it was only the coast that prone. Welp, it's home now so. Lets rock. Glad to be a scriber...hope you get thousands more. Keep up the charm & quick wit. Later Gators. 🐸
great humor, Brinkly!!!!
Sorry about the drink, hahaha. Loja really was beautiful. We look forward to another trip sometime. Yeah we didn't realize about the sismos here, but we're getting used to it, I guess, kinda... Still pretty freaky. Have a great day!
Thank you for this video of Loja❤
You are welcome. We can't wait to go back and visit longer, it is such a beautiful city. Thank you for watching.. we appreciate you very much
Nice video
Thank you
Nice video, thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for watching! Have a beautiful day
Best video of Loja ever. I have never been but I was in Cuenca last week for that quake!
Are you sure that's Spanish moss? Not Ecuadorian moss???
Thank you so much. Those quakes catch you off guard..too bad they didn't have a 30 second warning. Ecuadorian moss😂😂 Hope to talk to you soon. Thanks again for watching.
The Tapestry behind you is a replica - copy - of the famous Tapices de San Pedro de Cajas in Peru. Made in Peru for the ecuadorian market what is a win-win business for both the handicrafters in Peru and the local business in Ecuador
Thank you for the info on that. A win win situation is always the best. Thank you for watching our video and again thank you for the information on the tapestry. We appreciate it. Have a wonderful day.
Conozcan Guayaquil la ciudad más grande y dinámica del Ecuador
Guayaquil is on our list to visit. Thank you for watching
Loja hermosa ❤❤❤
Really liked the accelerated view of the drive.
Thank you.
Loja! Looks so comfortable, and sleepy vibe. 😌
It is such a chill vibe, such a beautiful city. Looking forward to revisiting for a longer stay. Thank you so much for watching and have a wonderful day
@@ericandsandy What country do you want to get residency maybe in the future?
hi you two 🙂 Could you live there or does Cuenca offer more ? thoughts........2 days wasnt long....
Hey Barb!! You're right 2 days wasn't long enough. We want to go back for a longer visit so we can explore more...Loja has a lot to offer but Cuenca definitely offers more for our needs.
@@ericandsandy When I move down later this year I'll bring down 'everyone' some beeswax candles. (start acquiring the matches.....not sure can bring those). I'll pass out at the * Eric and Sandy vegan taco get-together sans local brewery *. Life is good. (I was a beekeeper) Earthquakes dont scare us !!!!!! 🙂
La virgen del rosario, very cool. Cuenca has nothing on Loja except maybe the size. Clean, safe and no graffiti 🎉
We can't wait to go back and explore more of Loja. 2 days wasn't long and it rained for more than half...but we still had fun. It was very clean, the murals on the city walls have always been my favorite wherever we go. they just seemed so vibrant and alive in Loja.
Nice city! The roads looked like they were in pretty good shape😊 Did you do the driving?
Roads were pretty good for the most part. A few small areas here and there were a little broken up but not too bad. No I didn't drive. We rode with our friend Rene and his family 👪. I'm not quite ready for the no holds barred passing on blind curves through the clouds and all that. The rules we drive by in the states are just suggestions here...😶🤞
Loja is Known as the Cultural Capital of Ecuador, greetings
We can't wait to go back for a longer stay and explore more. It was so beautiful but our visit wasn't long enough. Thank you so much for watching.. we appreciate it so much
Fantastic video of a beautiful city. You made me want to visit loja 😊. I subscribed and will be checking out your other adventures.
It it's such a beautiful city.. we can't wait to go and visit for a longer stay. Thank you for subscribing.. we appreciate your support. Have a wonderful day and thanks for watching
Nice video. Which little beach village for a laid back lifestyle would you recommend?
Thank you. We haven't made it to the coast yet, so we can't recommend any unfortunately. Sorry. When we do we will be sure to get the video out ASAP. Thanks for watching and have a wonderful day
Hi .sir
I studied before there in that church school...
Long time ago..
I lots memories with older friends..😢😢
Thank you so much for sharing that with us. It is a beautiful school. Thank you for watching and sharing your memories. ❤️. Have a beautiful day
Can you please tell me the name of the Airbnb that you stayed at?
There's a link in the description. Thanks for watching 😁👍
Always informative and fun. Thanks! BTW, are there many expats in the Loja area?
Thank you. There are expats in Loja but not a big community like in Cuenca. Loja is less than 200,000 people and from everything I've read about how many expats there are less than 100...But this information could be wrong. Thanks for watching and I saw that on Facebook there is a Loja expat exchange. Maybe join and see if someone there knows. Thanks again
Omg veggies dishes at chifas 🥢🥡 are delicious I love it ❤ vegetales salteados 👌veggie fried rice 👌 or with noodles I’m not vegan but I enjoy eating vegan stuff lol 😅but obviously my thing always is going to be hornado 🤤😍cascaritas 🥓👌llapingachos , mote con chicharrón , sanduche de chancho 😅Ecuadorian chicken soup 🍲 yummy I love addicted with soups in Ecuador
I LOVE all the soups here...I like that a lot of them are vegan... they're so flavorful. I'm so glad Eric is able to enjoy and try all the things he's never had before. It's like a food vacation for him. No holds barred.
@@ericandsandy yes 👏🏻 I’m addicted to Ecuadorian soups 🍲 taste so good locro de papa 😍 lentils soup, red bean soup, plantains with cheese soup, locro de acelga taste amazing, I’m so happy that both of you are loving food from Ecuador 🇪🇨 🥰🥰✌️
I think the red bean soup is my favorite. But the squash soups are so good too. They're all so good.. it's sooo hard to pick my favorite. 😂😂
@@ericandsandy omg I know all of them are delicious vegan or not vegan all of them are 10/10 for me😍well not the bizarre ones 🚫 😅and I don’t know squash in Ecuador taste amazing 🤩 👌 I cannot find that kind of squash here in 🇺🇸☹️😁😁
I hear ya...I couldn't find a fruit or vegetable that tasted like Ecuadors... unless I planted it in organic soil and grew it myself..but then again it probably wouldn't be as good😁
Eric, how do people get to Loja or Manta or even Cuenca in the easiest way from North America aside from the main hub cities especially if they go back and forth every year?
We travel from Miami to Quito to Cuenca. The easiest flight to Cuenca is the "one way" from Miami to Cuenca. Stopover in Quito for about an hour to go through customs then back on plane to Cuenca. All in one day, no overnight stay in Quito. I know Quito has flights to Manta if you want to get there quicker. Guayaquil has flights to Manta and Cuenca. I don't think Cuenca has flights to Manta yet. To get to Loja you would need a driver or a bus. A drive in a car to Loja from Cuenca is about a 4 hour drive. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a beautiful day
@@ericandsandy Thank you, but let's say you are coming from elsewhere to Miami, including Canada. You have to book two separate sets of flights and go through customs twice, once in Miami and once in Quito or Guayaquil. What I found on Google was a ridiculous wait time for a flight to Cuenca in Quito or Guayaquil of many hours for a one hour trip. In any case, going on two separate bookings and customs is a pain. The truth is I have never traveled like that with two separate flights, so I don't know how it works with customs.
Sorry... we've only flown from the States. We've come from the west coast and that's a spend the night in Quito flight, then Cuenca in the morning. If I had to do it over again. I would fly into Miami..stay the night there ...then take the 1 day flight from Miami to Cuenca. We've never flown into Guayaquil so I'm not sure on that flight. Sorry, I wish I could have been more help.
I am currently binging all your videos! If you are comfortable with it, do you have videos where you share what it's like there financially? I know other channels have covered it, but I love to compare living expenses, etc.
Thanks for watching our videos. We really don't do cost of living.. we try to include costs of food...and what our activities cost. We know everyone has a budget and it varies. We've seen apartments go any where from 300-1200 a month. Before we moved here I would check gringopost, Facebook marketplace and yapatree for apartments. Most apartments come with all utilities and internet and some fully furnished. Thanks again for watching and your support. Have a wonderful day
Question: how did you get to Loja from Cuenca? Did you get a private driver?
We had friends that were going to Vilcabamba and they knew we wanted to visited Loja...so they offered to drop us off and pick us up on their way back. But if we didn't have the generous offer, we would have gotten a private driver. We had one on our exploratory trip in 2021 and he is wonderful. Thank you for watching and your question. If you have any more feel free to ask. Have a great day.
Fron cuenca it take 3 AND half hours
Yes, hello. Just came across your channel by chance. Thanks for the video but if I may say something here please… I see many videos about Ecuador and expat experiences, but what I haven’t seen personally are important videos on how, for instance, open a bank account there, what are expats using, what’s their experiences on moving money from their country to Ecuador and what they do about it, and everything banking that could shine some light on difficulties people may face.
I know many talk about using their debit, credit cards etc, but what if those cards just stop working or something goes wrong, what if people can’t withdraw from ATM machines? I want to be able to go to the bank and take my money out, physically, without relying on cards and machines.
Could you please make videos not just about where to eat or have fun, but tackling serious questions that immigrants to Ecuador may face and should prep for? Thank you!
I like this question and will absolutely make a video about this topic. Banking for us in Ecuador has been a relatively good experience. I may be able to cover this with a Short, but could be a long form video also. We also will be doing CZcams Live soon. That will be good for answering viewer questions as well. Be sure to subscribe if you haven't. Have a great day 😀
Thank you! That would be great. And I subscribed
Thank you
I am a single biracial 71 year old lady and I want to move out of the US....would this be a safe place to emigrate?
Hi Jacqueline! Thank you for your comment...I would have to say it depends on the person. We had the same question as you did and booked a flight to Cuenca for 2 weeks for an exploratory trip. We wanted to see if Cuenca was a fit for us and it was. I would say you would have to have your senses about you like you would anywhere in the world to keep yourself safe. We do know several single women that live here from the states. If you are on Facebook I would join the group Cuenca Expats and Friends. Ask questions and get a feel for how the single women of Cuenca feel living here. I hope this helps and again I want to thank you for watching our video and commenting, we appreciate it very much. Have a beautiful day and if you have any other questions feel free to ask.
Hi there... I'm going to Guayaquil next week and will spend a couple of months there.... would you like to visit? I can show you around 👍
Hi! Thank you so much for the offer. That is so nice of you. Sorry it took so long to reply. If we get out there we will totally message you. Thank you for watching and have a beautiful day.
You missed the big one in March. That one was seriously scary 😟 Rumble, cracking and then shaking like the old ride at universal studios in Florida. Not nice!
I can imagine how scary it was. I've been through some crazy ones in California. Eric not so much...he's from the South..they don't get a lot of earthquakes there. Never been to Universal Studios..always wanted to go. Maybe not so muchon that old crickety ride though. 😵💫😊
Try encebollado
Thank you, that is on Eric's list of things to try. Can you think of any other dishes that we can add? Thank you for watching and have a beautiful day.
@@ericandsandy If you're on the Coast (not sure if available in the Highlands, but probably is), also try "Caldo de Bola" or "Caldo de Plátano" (an absolutely delicious plantain soup). And, yes, Encebollado is delicious (made with onions)... There's also a dessert made with figs with a sweet syrup over it served with a small wedge of white "farmer's" cheese (the sweet & salty contrast..delicious).
There are just so many dishes, snacks, and styles.. you'll have to discover them a little at a time.
Been hearing about increased crime in Ecuador. Have you visited Guayaquil recently? Interested in your opinion about crime against tourist in Guayaquil, Cuenca, and other areas. Thank you in advance ;)
For starters we do watch the news much. The only crime we hear about it the same everyone else does. That's about the gang violence in some coastal areas. We haven't been to Guayaquil, yet. I feel like we have enough common sense to be save if we do visit there. Sandy grew up in Southern California and me in southern Florida. That kind of thing is nothing new to us. There was just a mass shooting in Hollywood Florida close to where some of my family lives. Should I not visit there now? Of course I will. Unfortunately crime and violence is a part of the world we live in these days. But we refuse to live if fear, and try to spread peace love and kindness to all. Joshua 1:9. Thanks for watching and you comments. Have the best day ever
@@ericandsandy I agree with your sentiment. I have traveled to Ecuador multiple times however haven’t been there in about 10 years. At that time I would feel comfortable taking out my camera in tourist areas and wanted to know if this is still the case in Cuenca since I plan on traveling there again.
I feel very safe in Cuenca. Sandy goes out by herself and feels very safe as well. Granted we're not out walking around at 1 or 2 in the morning. We've been out with our camera and gopro .. you just have to have your senses about you. Just like anywhere in the world.
@@ericandsandy That’s very good to hear. Reassuring :) Thank you!
You are welcome
Guayaquil is pronounced Goo-Ah-Yah-Keel
Exactly.. or even (for english-speakers) as "Gwah-yah-KEEL".
Thank you for letting us know. We're learning. 😊 Thanks for watching. Have a beautiful day.
Vayan a conocer zaruma es muy hermosa esa ciudad tiene un centro histórico espetacular esta en la provincia de el oro
Yes, when we were in Loja the Airbnb host recommended Zaruma. Our next trip to Loja will be longer so we can visit and explore everything. Thank you for your recommendation too. We can't wait to see Zaruma. Thank you for watching and have a beautiful day.
