    God, I was born in an Asian tropical country and I thought we have everything in terms of fruits and vegetables … wow! When I marched through the Ecuadorean markets … wow !! I was blown that what I’ve seen in my earlier days were nothing compared to what are sold here …

      There is soooo many. I love to cook. I should really go find 1-2 fruits and veggies that I have no idea about and make a recipe for them. That will totally keep me busy.😊😊. We want to visit all the Asian countries too. I love jackfruit..I'm really interested in how different the flavor will be there compared to the states. Thank you for watching..we appreciate your support ❤. Have a wonderful day

    Some fruits are better in juice, yogurt, or milkshake like the tomate, guanabana, maracuya, naranjilla, also you can combine naranjilla with dried bark strips of cinamon and sugar in hot water and if you like it some alcohol in it to make the drink canelaso

    Talking to naturpathic Doc, told him moving to Ecuador. Concerned: I'm a salad head(love salads) and people say "dont eat the salad. You'll get sick." He said , "EAT a half a teaspoon to a teaspoon of papaya seeds a day, at least 2 or 3 x a week to prevent parasites. Cool eh ???

      I knew about the papaya seeds from eating raw for a little over a year. That's probably why I like papaya more than Eric😁😁. I eat salad here and have never had a problem. You just have to clean all your fruits and veggies..I use either the salt bath, the vinegar bath or a little of both. Then you rinse afterwards and let dry. I think the tablecloth was my first purchased thing for our apartment. Thank you..I love it too😍😍 Can't wait til you get out here

      I eat salads all the time. And of course you can prepare your own veggies, or simply do as I do which is buy the prewashed lettuce or salads in bags. And of course cuenca has drinkable water so do salt water soak and then rinse
      Best thing is to eat very careful for two weeks then add stuff. I drank bottle water for several weeks in cuenca before even use for coffee

    Naranjilla is used mainly in juice, ice cream, Jelly's and added to other juices and dishes.
    The Babuco fruit skin and seeds are discarded, and the pulp are usually chopped into cubes and cooked with sugar and cinnamon.

    When I was in Ecuador a lady prepared juice for me from babaco and I loved it! The babaco in your video appears more ripe than the one she used. She peeled and cubed the babaco and tossed it into a blender with water, a bunch of sugar, and a raw egg. It was my favorite juice in Ecuador and I tried lots of different juice. BUT, you guys in this video tried some fruit that I never did. That cherimoya sounds amazing. Will have to try it next trip. Great video!!

    Hola Eric and Sandy, thank you for sharing your videos, they are not only entertaining but educational. I love the experience of buying fresh fish, squid or lobster right out of the fisherman canoes in the coastal region of Ecuador, or tasting organic fruits and vegetables all over the country. You may like to ask in the mercado or your ecuadorian neighbor the best way to eat or prepare them. For example naranjilla can be prepare in cold or hot beverages, guayabas are best eaten with the skin like you would apples, granadilla, maracuya or pitaya that have a gelatin like texture with small seeds are supposed to be swallowed avoiding to chew on the seeds, chirimoyas are better off when very ripe and tender enough to the touch. I hope you continue to enjoy your adventure in my small but diverse country !

    The yellow dragonfruit is usually much sweeter than the red. I cut my dragon fruit in half down the center after trimming off the ends then cut in quarters which makes it easier to peel. Also don't eat a lot at a time unless you need to make numerous bathroom breaks as it's a really good natural laxative! ;-)

    • @ericandsandy
      @ericandsandy  Před 10 měsíci +1

      We chose Ecuador for the weather when we were researching it..but when we visited for the first time we fell in love with the people, the city and the beauty. Cost of living is pretty much how much someone's budget is...you can find places to live anywhere from 300.00 a month up to 1400.00 a month. Utilities aren't that much in Cuenca because you don't need heating or air con. Food is very very reasonable. So it just depends on the person.

    Hey guys! Hoping to move to Vilcabamba in early 2024 from the USA. Loving seeing so many great videos from expats like yourselves! So helpful :-) Please make more shopping videos but as you are browsing, stop and take a sec to let us know the cost of the items. Its always fascinating lol. Pitaya might send ya to the potty if you eat too much, but the Native Americans knew they "made mens hearts strong" which recent studies are showing they help prevent heart attacks and heart muscle inflammation responsible for heart disease, which is the number one killer of women! Not sure how the medicinal properties change between the pink skin white flesh, the pink flesh, and the sweeter yellow skin. Would be interesting to see side by side lab reports!
    What made you guys decide on Cuenca instead of Vilcabamba or Malcatos?? I cant do Cuenca because of the elevation. But im really looking forward to going for day trips to shop and eat lol.
    What is the number one food product that you miss from the USA?

    • @ericandsandy
      @ericandsandy  Před 9 měsíci +2

      We chose Cuenca because of the spring-like weather all year long. The hospitality and kindness of the locals. Also we didn't want to have to buy a car and it is extremely walkable and they have great public transportation options. They have an airport which makes it easy to travel to and from the country and the city. They have very good health care in their city. The city itself is a beautiful unesco world heritage site. And there's always something to do.
      There's no food that we miss back in the states. The quality of the food we feel is better here in Ecuador. And Cuenca itself has incredible dining experiences. From dollar street food to fine dining, they have it all. Thanks for watching and have a great one!
