That is the most fantastic river walk…we have enjoyed it many times.
It is my favorite. It is so beautiful, it's literally a dream come true to get to walk along this river every day.

You are very welcome. We love the fact that you don't need a car here. Everything is so walkable and if you need to go further the public transportation is available and very nice, or you can hire a driver for long trips as well.

8:48 this plant in ecuador is called penco, in mexico it is agave, and in ecuador the drink produced with this plant is miske in mexico tequila, in ecuador there is also a fermented drink called guajango and without fermentation it is called shawarmishke All this comes out of Penco, if you can, you should try it, it's very tasty 😋

Yes...it was a long route...back and forth 😂😂 Eric hasn't ried the humitas yet ...that is definitely on his list of things to try. All of our friends here just love it ❤️❤️. Gracias. I could taste the chocolate croissant & the freshly baked roll with cheese in the middle. I also travel the world stopping at bakeries to indulge my pleasures. Headed to Cuenca in the Fall 2024, I'll be stopping at those bakeries.
There are many bakeries to choose from around town. In general it's a great place with lots of food options in all different budget ranges. The best thing about Cuenca is the people. So kind and friendly. We're sure you'll have a great time. Safe travels, all our best!

I guess if you like pastries there are lots of good choices. Maybe I missed something, but I do not recall them buying a loaf of bread. In my experience finding decent bread in Cuenca is a challenge, especially when ya grow up in Philly and spend time in NYC a few times a year. I live here in Cuenca and finally found a couple places for bread, but as usual in Cuenca everything is supersized so I rarely buy it.
Primitivo Artisan Bakery has great chabiatta bread rolls and Sandy La Pastelera has the best breads that I've had there. You can order from Sandy through Facebook or Instagram..her sourdoughs are amazing and my favorite is her foccacia..perfecto. Her cookies and pastries are so delicious. When i speak with locals from all over Ecuador, they are pretty much pissed at everyithing, specially with security, they never say anything possitive to me, but then i watch your videos and i want to go inmediately.
I suppose it's all about perspective you know. People in the States are always complaining about the States... We love it here.

No, I don't think Eric edits them out, I get too excited to see the dogs...so I'm usually pointing them out. He says I have dogdar. My spidey sense tells me when they're near. 😁😂😁😂❤️
Where you are walking there is no traffic. no cars. quiet except roaring river. (ocean is warmer w La Nina, so temps may warm ???? lets see ???) El Vergel ?
There is some traffic, not a lot. You can hear the cars and buses going by but the roar of the river definitely drowns it out. That was part of El Vergel area.
My dogs airport crate comes in two parts, you bolt together. Large! I'm thinking: I disassemble my wheel barrel. Put in bottom of dog crate so I can buy *ONE of EACH* at panaderia and hightail 'home' in Cuenca 🙂 Think that'll work ? ........

The prices look great. I’ve been to Cuenca because my wife is from there. My favourite breads and pastries are from the countries that used to be part of the Austrian empire. Italy, Croatia and Austria of course. I like rye breads, strudels and such. I’m in Canada and don’t like the fast food chains like Tim Hortons, I call Tim Hortons fake donuts and pastries !

@@ericandsandy people from the southern states seem to like a lot of the same home foods like they do in Croatia . Homemade breads pastries and smoked meats and bbqs. I have some cousins in Tennessee on my English side and Croatian cousins in Croatia ! Your videos make me want to spend my winters in Cuenca !
Cuenca is a beautiful place. We can't wait to get back. We're from South Carolina but the Georgia i was talking about was the country. Their homemade bread (puri) is so flavorful and delicious 😋. So I'm sure the breads in Croatia might be similar. Can't wait to try them one day.

No, I think it was just a wheat bread. The best sourdough bread I've had here is from Sandy La Pastelera. Just the right amount of sour and when you warm it up just a little it is PERFECTO!! I have to stop talking about it because I don't have anymore and my mouth is starting to drool..😋😋

Any luck finding whole-grain breads? Here (near Berkeley CA), we get some awesome whole wheat sourdough. But it's $10 a loaf! Ouch!
Hey Rhys, we met a baker from the Vegan festival. She makes the best sourdough bread. You can find her on Instagram Sandylapastelera. Everything I have tried of hers is just amazing. I have never seen good baked goods by hispanic countries or its people. It's all basically the same, just different shape of dough covered with granular sugar. No expertise whatsoever. They often sell bread with some sort of meat inside. To me......thats a bread store not a bakery when they sell savory stuff in lieu of sweet stuff.
Technically these were all panaderias, call it what you want. I've enjoyed many sweet and savory opinions, depends on what I'm in the mood for. It's always fresh, unprocessed, and delicious 😋
