Wheel studs are known to be a weak point on these Subarus so today Kevin shows you exactly what you need to do to replace one just in case one breaks on you!

Great video!!!! I’m doing this to my car in the spring. My studs are starting to wear down
I needed this video like 3 weeks ago lmao. Had to cut my dust shield bc I didn’t know you could move the rear hub like that.
This video is a godsend for me getting back into mechanical work and also being a dummy putting on my "winter" wheels.
Awesome! Kevin, you’re turning into the Hulk man 💪🏻😆
Yeah, I've had 2 wheel stud issues so far on my 16 WRX, no doubt exacerbated by the wonderful NJ winters here. The first was a flat that had the wheel lock disintegrate upon removal and left me stranded because a piece of the wheel lock's cone was left on the stud's threads enough to keep the wheel secured, so needed to be towed and drilled out with heavy gouging to the wheel finish too. I then removed all the OEM wheel locks and just went with the OE lug nuts because I had assumed it was the locks that were junk and the tech probably hit it with too many ugga-duggas on the last tire rotation.
So then I started doing my own rotations and winter swaps and mounting to torque spec, every time. Don't you know last April while I'm breaking the lugs loose while doing my spring swap I feel a stud snap right in my hands? I was super pissed, silly me thinking I was doing my car a favor by hand loosening and torquing all my lugnuts everytime. Nope, it didn't care, because all those parts that mount your wheels to the hubs are apparently made of fucking Play-Doh. So yeah, I'll be swapping to ARP studs in the spring, while I'm assuredly replacing whatever breaks this year.
Just what I needed man!
Nice job! Exactly how it is to be done!
Excellent how-to. Thanks for that.
Nice video. I have wondered about the rears.
I would do this myself, but I not comfortable changing the brake lines.
Because I got the Faction Fab kit.
Great video guys!
VERY helpful sir. Thanks.
I didn’t even know I wanted to do this but now I want to.
Hey, can you talk about the new buddyclub tail Light please!?
Do I need to remove the e brake pads if I’m installing oem studs?
I miss Kevin from Subi-Speed. He taught me a lot.
What size extended wheel stud was use on this video?
Damn i did my studs a while back haha this video would of been helpful back then haha
Yo bro so much work
a minor tip is to not use the same lug nut or nuts to put the studs on as will be mounted with the wheels. aluminum lug nuts are notoriously flimsy and the torque from the gun could easily damage them. better to be safe than sorry!
Interesting. I always thought you need a press to remove and install wheel studs...
I wish the e brake details were a little more explained cause I have three small springs with one being different
At 5:48, you dont want to have the e-brake on as that locks the rear shoes onto the inside of the rotor, thus making it harder to pull off. I would reccomend getting a hammer and hitting the hat of the rotor(the dark grey matte area) with a solid hammer, or just use an impact wrench with bolt.
Using the e brake is just intended to get the threads started. Once it's going you can release it and it just pops off.
@@SubiSpeed or just smack it with a rubber mallet from the get go and not mess with the e brake or threads at all.
Nice job.
I wish there was a link to these sick beats
Did anybody else dash light up after installing the wheel stud?
When new light molding video?
Ur da man thank u.
why don't you release the e brake on the rear?
Do you have any suggestions for the rear if you can’t get your hub to budge after removing the four bolts and sensor?
Bigger hammer
I can’t get mine in there’s no room
Nice
Do these arp extended wheel studs make the wheels poke out a bit more?
No they do not. Wheel studs, no matter their length, are only used to hold the wheel to the hub and do not affect how far out or in the wheel sits. That will depend mainly on the offset and if you are running spacers.
Will this be the same process on a 05 sti for the rears ?
Same for the front at least. Here's a video of what we had to do for an 04 STi for the rears: czcams.com/video/Yf9sUnHao7M/video.html
Great videos as always, but put some safety glasses on please!
My hub is not pulling away from the dust shield in the rear making it so I can't fit the extended studs in there. I think it is seized on there any tips?
Having the same issue right now find a solution?
Same here...
Where can I get the installation tool you used to tighten the wheel stud???
just look up wheel stud installer.
lol you can just use a nut that has a larger diameter than the stud.
Do I need alignment after?
No
Torque spec for the caliper bolts?
20 ft lbs
Great video ! Way better quality than mine since y’all have a big lift :( I guess you guys and I are the only ones that made a video on extended studs 😝
I always thought hitting the hub like that can loosen the bearings 🤔
it can and should be pressed out
Mine broke off
I still don’t understand how you just slid the fronts in so easily. Did you loosen the hub in order to get them in?
No, you don't need to mess with the hub for the front. I'm assuming the dust shield is getting in your way. You either need to bend it or trim it to make room. Most people opt for the bending.
@@SubiSpeed bro i tried everything, mine still won't slide through? I don't if my ARP studs are longer or what
@@correctspec yea same here the 100-7716 don’t just slip in like all the videos show. Currently in same situation
@@karl2004rex I actually had to end up cutting the tips off of mine
@@karl2004rex what you ended uo doing? Dealing with the same here.
buddy club tail light video
Subaru has the worst wheel studs and nuts. I have never owned cars just have wheels studs cross thread at such early stage. The material is just cheap and rust quickly. Also having new your new studs in the freezer before using helps significantly. I only needed 60ft lbs to pull the studs through when they are freezing cold.
Easy enough. Subaru dealership wants to charge me 170 for one stud 🤦🏻♂️
Some idiot overtightened the caliper nuts. Cant get them out 😖
just do the work if you know how and stop the music
If you're not an experienced mechanic you can open a whole can of worms trying this! I pity the fool
brake rotors are looking like fart.
