  • LG's latest flagship features a Snapdragon 855 chipset, reliable battery life, and a front-facing Time of Flight sensor that allows for new gesture-based controls with Air Motion. But is that enough to compete against other major Android manufacturers?

    The best part about this phone is that you get new features without losing functionality of others like some companies.

    • @anthonyt425
      @anthonyt425 Před 5 lety +6

      Agreed. Many companies are quick to remove features, that's something that should be emphasized.

    • @Tigerex966
      @Tigerex966 Před 5 lety +18

      This is why companies like apple and samsung and google, hate LG.
      LG shows you a traditional fingerprint scanner is better, fastemore reliable, and more secure than an onscreen one, its secure face unlock is faster than iPhone because you do not have to swipe up, and you can have both secure features to securely unlock-your phone.....and they add hand id, just for fun without raising the price.
      LG shows you can have flush mounted back cameras, something Apple, Google, and Samsung really needs to do.
      LG shows you the Google assistant button, is better than google squeeze, siri, or bixby buttons.
      LG shows that you can have the best bluetooth hi-res codecs, MQA audio, be one of the first phone companies with wireless headphones, and still include a headphone jack, plus make it better by adding a higher quality amp and quad dac for 50 ohm and higher pro headphones.
      LG shows you the having the best in class audio and pro audio/video modes standard can really help with Vlogging, no dongles needed.
      LG shows the the sd card is still in style, useful, and does not try to up-sale you higher storage versions which are pure profit makers for samsung, google, and apple.
      What I do not understand is why tech reviewers are always negative in their LG phone reviews, even in the titles.
      The LG G8 is actually every bit as great as the iPhone XS, XS Max., Samsung S10, S10 Plus, Google Pixel XL3.
      Sure they will have cutting edge features thatsound good on paper optical fingerprint reader, that is actually worse in practice, and no other phone has more secure ways to open your phone.
      The cameras are good on all of them, LG has the best pro modes software, Google the best Night shot software for making it look like day which is not realistic and software not hardware, samsung and Apple have great auto modes for video, LG is almost there but shines better when you take control, which the others do not trut you to do.
      Side by side you would be hard pressed to see a difference in screen quality aside from the samsung bright mode and different saturation levels, which you can adjust on all but iPhone.
      When it come to audio it's a done deal.
      Software and update are where LG and samsung lag, and apple and google shine.
      Cpu's and gpu's are within a few percentage points, although samsung give you more ram form multitasking and keeping more things open.
      Samsung gives you two-way wireless charging which may be bad in the long run for your phone battery,
      So I still don't understand why so many of LG reviews are lacking the same respect given to something like an iPhone XR, XS, samsung S10 S10 Max, Google Pixel gets.
      They always say it is overpriced? At $819 it is way cheaper than the iPhone XS and Samsung S10 which it is superior to in many ways, and with it's current street price of $619, it is the best value of the newer 2019 phones so far, and the price will go down and it has a 2 year warranty standard.
      I can only conclude that the marketing of Google, Samsung, Apple, One-plus and others have made fanboys out of the majority of the tech reviewers and they feel the need to disrespect LG, when it's products are every bit as great as the others and better and many ways, by not taking well love, reliable and liked features away, and still innovating with new features, although some are in beta form, and will be refined and perfected and reintroduced by Apple and Samsung and Google later as their own, although they all copy each other, LG gets the least respect, and are a huge part phones have advanced as fast and far as they have, starting with their first all touch all screen smart phone with downloadable apps shown and receiving awards 6 months before the iPhone.
      The LG Prada., or the first curved OLED Phone the LG FLex, I could go on and on about 18/9 HDR 1440p dual front dual real back fingerprint scanner, triple rear, but I digress.
      take care.

      some people could care less, others will like what it enables, only samsungs top of the line have it, it was dropped from others to save cost.

      Is that not objective?
      8gb vs 6 gb vs 6 gb
      Is that not objective?
      No tele vs tele.
      Is that not objective.
      Apple samsung and LG dropped it to save cost.
      to many they could care less, some will want it.
      Cameras on almost all flagship smartphones are pretty much on pawith each other for the most part and good light and for basic shots, it is the software that makes the difference, aside from say the pureview 9 and such.
      LG excels at manual control of that camera for video and photo and is very good especially focus peak and shutter time etc with built in software.
      others have better auto do nothing software, which make more pleasing photosm in auto mode most of the time.
      In any event you can purchase 3rd party apps to enable features you may want or a better auto or manual mode. and in many cases you can sideload the others hacked apps, like google night site, googles camera is not better, just their software.
      Other phones have had success with Googles nightsight software, as google is very good with using stacking and algorhythms to then stich together multipl pictures with machine learning to produce great pictures, even though the lens and cpu are basically the same, even inferior to others.
      Again the small 1080P s10e, and 828P lcd iphone XR are not as premium as the 1440P 6.1" OLED TOF sensor enabled LG G8, it compares almost feature for feature size for size to the same size same resolution Samsung S10, giving up tele lens and reverse wireless charging and 2GB of ram (in America) but by giving youbetter audio, tof sensor for secure face unlock, better bokeh and hand id and gestures.
      flat oled for curved, notch for hole, tradition finger print scanner or inscreen on both secure.
      I think that makes them the best comparison today, both great and great values if you need that size phone, and with current prices and street prices for most the LG is the better buy between the too,
      If you do not mind a much smaller screen, 1080P or less, can give or take tof sensors.
      Than the Samsung smaller lower resolution 5.8" S10e, or even the iphone xr might be a better buy at retail (not street prices), or even the 845 chip google pixel at sale prices or one plus, but those do not have sd cards or headphone jacks.

    What are the greats?
    The LG G8 is superior in a lot of ways to the iphone XS and XS Max, Samsung S10 and S10 Plus, Google Pixel 3 XL, all at a much lower price.
    At $819 List and $619 actual street price, it is current the best value in smartphones and the only one that gives you a.......
    Excellent 3120X1440P OLED Display
    Sd card slot, headphone jack (Luxury Items)
    Best in class stereo recording and Audio Playback Quad dac Amd Exclusive*
    Flush cameras
    Hand id and Gestures, Gimmicky but fun and may improve Exclusive*
    More accurate and faster and more secure traditional fingerprint scanner + Faster than an iphone Secure face unlock, that combo is an exclusive.*
    2 year warranty
    LG is one of the Greats that just so happen not to be an Apple, Google or samsung phone.
    Deal with it and do not be so brand biased next time.
    Google pixel 845 no headphone jack, no sd card, one rear camera (but a great one, no secure face unlock), 64GB store 4 gb gam, camera bump for a higher price.
    iphone XS much higher price telephoto instead of ultra wide, no secure finger print scanner, slower secure face id you have to swipe up, 4gb ram 64GB storage, no headphone jack, no sd card slot, smaller less resolution screen, siri instead of google assistant, insane glass back and front replacement prices, 1 year warranty instead of two, huge camera bump, but yea is has a smaller chin and ios, 3d touch and 5-10% better geekbench multiscore, screen has less area, less resolution and ppi and may not be better this time around at all, as LG's OLED have improved big time.
    Sasung S10, same size, more ram, slightly more screen area as the hole is better than the notch, telephoto lens which is only activated and very bright conditions, 4k video front camera, maybe better OIStabilization, Bixby, LG G8 has over it flush rear cameras, rear physical fingerprint scanner with notification feature, that is more secure and faster and more accurate and reliable than samsung's optical screen reader, and it does not need a special screen protector. Google Assistan over Bixby, Flat screen over curved meaning no false touches and no distorted images, secure face unlock over non secure face unlock, gimmicky but fun hand control and unlock, better bokeh with the tof sensor, same store same sd card, same headphone jack, but superior audio when using 50 ohm or higher headphones with the quad dac feature and superior audio recording,
    Again tell me what are the greats?
    Each phone has something it is better at and some things that it is the same or worse, no other phone at this price point is a better value or grater than the LG G8.
    Again tell me waht phones are the greats?
    LG is one of the Greats that just so happen not to be an Apple, Google or samsung phone.

First one wants to go into settings, then press on the home touch button. Next select the gestures and button style. Once one selects this style he/she will see oval-shaped home button and a < symbol on the right close to the home button. Once u press on the oval shaped home button three options should pop up in there place. U should see a easy mode button, home button or home and app drawer button. Select the home and app drawer. This will give you a home screen and when you swipe up you should see your app drawer. once you are in your app drawer in the top right-hand corner you will see 3 tiny vertical tap on that and there you should see where you can put your apps in alphabetical order. This will also work when you install new apps. I hope I explained everything correctly if not these directions are pretty close to getting you to where you want to be if you want your apps in your app drawer to be in alphabetical order. Also this will not work if you have a larger installed onto your phone you will have to uninstall the launcher if you want this to work.

    It does not have the compromises those two have, yes they will excel at somethings, but so does the LG.
    I mean really what does Apple offer you more, nothing, slightly faster processor, IOS, 3d touch, possibly better automode for the rear camera and a tele.
    Samsung s10 has an in display finger print reader that is inferior to LG standard back one that samsung copied from LG, never mind the ultra wide angle and the 18/9 plus ratios, Samsung has the brightest OLED< but LG G8 is right there with it for quality, and does not have curves which cause false touches and crack more easily in a fall and cause distorted images, not to mention camera bump.
    Yes Samsung does give you a tele lens, has 8GB ram, 4k video on the front camera and better video stabilization, but LG gives you the more secure face id plus secure finger scanner that does not need a special screen protector, and is way faster and you find it by feel not sight, best in class audio recording and headphone play back,

    I'm glad that LG didn't follow the hole punch display. I get it, it's the newest trend, but doesn't mean everyone has to do it.. I don't doubt that LG will eventually do so. But I'm still more than fine with their current iteration of displays.
    Not to mention their Tony Stark coolness with their gestures. Yes, it gimmicky at this stage, but hey, we have to start somewhere to get to Iron Man status. Lol

      I guess everybody just plotted to hate on lg for some random reason then? Almost every review I've seen of this phone is basically the gimmicks barely work the software is outdated but overall it's a very decent phone but it's not better than the competition.

    • @Jimster481
      @Jimster481 Před 5 lety +1

      @@gcforreal Most of the reviewers are saying the same thing. I have watched and read basically every review out there.
      Most reviewers seem to be spewing shit about LG and discrediting their innovation.
      I get that hand ID seems like a gimmick but the 3d face unlock and proper fingerprint reader are better than the competition.
      Also it seems that the battery life is stellar and the piezoelectric screen speaker is pretty decent with tuning as some other reviewers are shown.
      Considering the price of the LG right now; it easily beats the iPhone XR and Galaxy S10E because those are the phones that are even CLOSE to the price.
      Considering that you can get the LG for $699 (or $320 @ Sprint) I would say that no phone in that price range touches this phone.
      I am an HTC 10 owner who has been looking to upgrade due to lack of software updates by HTC anymore.. my phone is stuck with bugs and security holes since Dec 2017...
      HTC hasn't built anything I can buy (or that is worth buying) so I am looking around.
      I mostly see reviewers fanboying apple or samsung when both of their offerings are overpriced and underperforming.
      This ultrasonic fingerprint reader in the S10 is so bad that it just doesn't work for most people.... the headphone jack sucks (atleast from what I have read/seen) and the faceID is useless.
      Additionally the battery life is worse and the cameras are about on par.
      LG is offering more resolution, battery life, audio quality and features for a lower price than its competitors and reviewers are saying it doesn't compete?

    No Contest
    Audio - Lg is the Best and No one Comes even close.
    Security - Fingerprint Reader, Face ID & Hand ID - {Name a Phone that Has That}
    Camera - Cam App - No Camera Bump {name a phone without one}
    Cost - The Phone cost less and dose more than the rest.
    But according theses internet reviewer. They say that people want an less secure phone that can get hacked by a picture. People was a finger print reader that work Some of the time. Guess what, there ain't much of a difference. Kudo's to LG for their P-OLED display. Plus best in class 32bit DAC, an audiophile's dream with wired headphones! Alot of reviews are very negative but I strongly disagree. This is a very good phone especially at 619.00 bucks!

    So, the comparison here with the OnePlus 6T is because of the LG G8's discounted price... even when the 6T doesn't have wireless charging, water resistance, microSD slot, secured 3D face unlock, headphone jack, or better cameras? The G8 is comparable to any 2019 flagship and it does stand out if we're being sincere. How can reviewers continuously say the G8 isn't great at any particular thing? It provides a more secured face unlock than almost every other Android phone including the Galaxy devices. LG is still one of if not the only OEM that gives consumers a Hi-fi quad DAC. They may not be marketing well like the competition but their hardware is solid. They just suck at OS updates (and marketing)

From the ui,settings menus,extra steps you go through to access basic things Samsung puts out in the open. Even the unbelievably bad LG keyboard,the fact that it launched after pie and doesn't have it. Everything just feels off. In my own words I've always called LG the "great value" Samsung. The quad dac however is FANTASTIC. I don't listen to much music with headphones but when I do it's as good as it could be. But that's all I can say. LG software is just a tough sell.

      The G8 isn't bad at all. It can keep up with the S10 in most areas other than sleek looks. It's this type of harsh reaction that makes it hard for them to come back.

    LG have better audio system, better night mode than galaxy s10 and better battery life. I thing it is a great phone for the average consumer, how can reviewer not talk about ones of the greatest features of this smartphone? the Quad dac.
