@@randallmart92 My only disappointment in the G8 from the G5 is that they took out the "Multicam" for video and put in some nonesense called "food". I do like very much the hand gestures and hope they expand on that and also the Palm ID. Though when going on trips or places I still take my G5 with me just to have that option. Which I found odd they would take out such a great video feature. And also "timelapse." I was on a recent work trip and luckily I took both because of the multiview only to find out also that "timelapse" is also gone on the G8 so if I want to do timelapse I have to use the G5. They really should bring those back. I REALLY don't like the AI tagging my photos for me and no way to turn it offf (that I know of yet). But I like the Manual Video and Cine Video options. They should take out the AR Stickers and Food and put back the MultiCam Video/photo option and the Timelapse. these are the only things..otherwise I really love it and get lots of compliments on the photos it takes.

So I did a thing today. I've been rocking my LG G6 for the last 2 years and it's been a really good phone for me especially with the ThinQ updates LG pushed to it in the last year. I've always loved the cameras on this thing with the wide angle shooter that has captured some amazing pictures that certain iPhone loving family members have been kinda jealous of and just can't match. Although I've been tempted by the Google Pixel, Samsung S10 and several other phones I just had a hard time justifying spending the premium price on them.
I've been reading and watching a lot or reviews, mostly mixed about the LG G8 but felt like you that it was a better phone than most people gave it credit for. Especially since most (not all) of the concern could be fixed with software updates as was done on the G6. Then Sprint offered up the G8 for 50% off it's 18 month lease making the total out of pocket cost at just $315 over the course of the lease. That pretty much sealed the deal for me but then they threw in a $150 Visa Gift Card if you bought at least $75 worth of accessories. Thanks for your honest review and blunt opinions. It certainly helped me in my decision process. ~Cheers!

I greatly dislike they took out "Timelapse" and "Multicam" on the G8 and put in "Food" and "AR stickers" bring those back as well and get rid of also the AI Tagging photos or at least let people turn it off. If I want to tag my photos let me do it how I want not an AI do it for me (and often gets it wron)!!!! So I often carry my G5 with me at certain times just to have those options of "Timelapse" and "Multicam"

Great 📹, J! I usually love the LG V series. I don't like that they made G series and V series the same design. When you used the V or G series, you could feel the difference in your hands. I also don't care for the candy bar design. The V series used to be a lot wider and it fit great in my hands. The V40's camera is super dope.

I remember when I used to love LG. I had LG G2, G4 with amazing camera, G5 SE with even great camera and had a brilliant wide angle and when I wanted to upgrade to v30 I realized it had 5megapixel front camera and I was so disappointed. My love for LG died then...

Awhile now. I don't upgrade at all. My 1st was the G3. I still have it. My next is G6 which I'm using now. Works good 4 me. It's time 4 my next one and I don't think it will be this one, because of that damn notch.

JAY, picked up a locked brand new locked version of the KG G8 fior $499 with Speck case. I'm a T-Mobile customer so it's not a big deal, can get a temp unlock for 45 days and then soon there after can get it completely unlocked in black, red was $70 more and I case my phone anyway.'
Today accidentally cracked the screen on the S10+, making arrangements for it's repair and will wait till the LG comes in. I count my self lucky maybe only 3 times since the 90's I broke or lost a phone. I'm excited, maybe night black but OK with it, Maybe I'll like black better since the vast majority of cases get then in black, dark blue or a real dark grey. Thanks for your information.
BTW Samsung also sets it phones at at HD+ to, Also you get a temp unlock for 30 days, through their app.

Some folk care way too much about the design. Sure, its nice to have fresh look but you get to a point where all phones look so similar and there is a reason for it. Even the notch isn't that big of a deal. Minor issues.
Battery life, clarity, connectivity, durability and audio (when it comes to LG), are what matters.
Love my G8 and I still have an S5 for work. Both are perfect.
I like Samsung, but starting to like LG even more.

Nice to see honest well thought out reviews on real user experience rather than someone else just jumping on the 'bash the unpopular kid' band wagon. I was looking for a great deal on a used phone for an MVNO but want flagship features. Sad that LG is out of the phone business now, they were really getting to be a great option and I'm excited to get my hands on this model. Unfortunately couldn't find a red one which I love the looks of, but thanks for the case recommendation. I don't understand all these people with cracked screens acting like having a phone as slippery as a wet bar of soap is the only way to go. Also, if this phone had Apple or Samsung logo on it and was more expensive, the masses would have thought it was the best thing ever.

Based on this review and few others I've seen I think it's a great phone. Only downside is the notch. I also think LG has to go bigger 6.5-6.7inch for LG V50.
I'm a Note series fan and I like bigger screen phones with no notch, no punch holes but if I was forced to choose between this G8 and the S10 I'd probably go for the G8.

How much worse is the speaker on the v40 compared to g7? Mainly focusing on boomboxy feature is of g7 vs the basic speaker output of v40

    • @antx672
      @antx672 Před 5 lety

@@arai6147 The G7 and V40 both had decent speakers but the G7 was noticable louder when you sat it down on certain surfaces. The thing I didn't like about that is my phone is mostly in my hands so I couldn't always take advantage of this feature. All in all I think the G7 was louder when placed on a table or something but the V40 was overall more well rounded.

In Fact I Deviated For A Split Second And Tried The One Plus 7 McLaren Edition . I felt So Naked With That Phone Not Too Mention The Issues I had With The McLaren. I had To Return The First One For Not Being Able To Connect To WiFi. The Second One I Returned For It Getting Extremely Hot That It Felt Like It Was Going To Explode. It Didn't Even Have A 3.5 mm Jack, No IPX 68 Rating At All. I Said Screw This Went Right Back And Said Give The G8. Yeah, like I've said before there's nothing wrong with the LG skin. It's very minimal. I came over from the Nexus 6p when it bootlooped. It never slows the phone down. My V20 has some additional useful features that I actually like. But nothing heavy. Just as fast and as smooth as the day I bought it. And yeah, like you said this whole bootloop thing was like 5 years ago but people still bring that up. How about bendgate with the iPhone? Does your phone still bend when you sit on it? LOL. Or how about Samsung? Does your phone blow up because of the battery still?

I just got this phone last week since i got it for $420 brand new from tmobile for trading in my g6.
Although im really really liking this phone there are a few issues.
    1. This phone is slippery as hell and there aren't that many options for cases as i would like. This will definitely require a case so it won't slip outvyour hands.
    2. The screen as a speaker for an earpiece is not that great, at times there is a weird static noise.
    3. The "boom box" speaker is horrible and I'm still trying to mess with the settings to get it to sound good. But I'm honestly shocked at how bad it sounds.
    4. I notice some people say they don't hear me at times to well. Just have to get used to how i need to hold the phone by my face.
    5. The hand recognition crap is just not going to be used.
    6. Camera is not bad but it isn't too much of a step up from my g6
All other features and specs are phenomenal.
