LG G8 is PERFECT competition for the Galaxy S10 (Suggesting Otherwise is Silly)

  • LG G8 vs Galaxy S10? It's been said that there's no competition, but that requires someone to completely ignore all the things LG does well. It CAN be OK for a manufacturer to focus on different features than what a more popular manufacturer chooses to include (or exclude). Let's have a quick chat about tech reviewing on CZcams, and compare two awesome smartphones. Because apparently, only popular CZcamsrs can recommend popular phones. That's not very fun...

LG gets shit on so much when really they are some of the best bang for the buck top tier brands. Not to mention they are unfairly picked on.
LG has the first glass back phone in the Nexus 4. Reviewers questioned the design choice and called it a step in the wrong direction. Look at us now.
LG releases the first globally available quad HD display in the LG G3. Reviewers at the time called it gimmicky and/or overkill. Look at us now.
LG releases the first modular phone in the LG G5. It's panned, given nothing but negativity, and crap about only having 3 modular options upon initial release. The next year Motorola releases its modular phone, also with only 3 modules available upon release, and is not given a single ounce of grief over its same number of modules. While the implementation of the modular design eas done way better by Motorola, they were given a free pass on their same number of modules. Not a single reviewer who gave LG shit for only having three gave shit to Motorola. Hypocrites.
LG does the first extra tall display in the LG G6. Reviewers do nothing but complain about the lack of compatibility with most apps upon release. A month later, Samsung unveils the S8, with an even taller aspect ratio, and is given universal praise and not ONR reviewer saying the same things about compatibility that was said about LG.
LG has done more innovation and risk taking than any other phone brand in thw last 6 year's and they are always bashed, made fun of, or "but my bootloops" ad nausea the entire time. Meanwhile other companies follow their lead and are praised for their "risk taking" and "outside the box thinking".
Thank you LG for being the real face of Courage.

Facts, I'm sensing a conspiracy. What LG needs to do is up its marketing game. I'm currently using a v30 and it's got really good reviews just as a phone but for what meant to be, a multimedia driver. if LG had just marketed their devices as a multimedia device while using its QUAD DAC feature as its specialty, even bringing back g7's speakers, audiophiles and anyone who appreciates the headphone jack and sound in general would for sure pick it up and Overlook the small things that it doesn't do better than Samsung or Apple. I don't think LG realizes that they're in a lane of their own, but again it's marketing, they gotta show confidence in their product and what/who its meant for, also they need to stay on top of the software updates, you can't be constantly late to the party and then wonder why consumers aren't choosing your phones

To be honest there's a pretty good reason lg gets shit on... I have owned 3 LG G4's repaired twice then told the third one wouldn't have the same boot loop problem..(It did) then I decided to upgrade to the LG V10 witch after one week it got stuck in the boot loop problem and Lg didn't do shit all to fix this problem for me. Yet I'm still happy as could be with my LG v20 now. its been kicking ass for years now with no complaints from me.. Other then the screen burn-in and the battery that came with it was garbage!

Don't forget that LG also did rear mounted buttons, which has lead to rear mounted fingerprint sensors. They also did slim bezels on the G2, and lastly, the G Flex and G Flex 2. Hardly any press coverage, but they were curved phones that could be flattened out, and wouldn't crack or break. LG pushes the boundaries, and I like them for that.

If you care anything about portable audio playback. of the highest possible quality, there is no comparison. LG's DAC easily rivals some much more expensive DAP's. Plus it records better then anything out there, as far as a phone goes, and I've compared the results to recent portable tascams and a sonys. Neither will play back stereo 24\192. One of the great joys, in my life, is to record live jazz and then listen to it on my home, followed by playing it on my home stereo with a good quality DAC into my Paradigm speakers. Music is Life!

And I'm a self-claimed audiophile rocking the FAD Heaven VI, Pandora VI, HD600s, and thousand dollars worth of speakers.
So I won't be surprised if someone just overlooks the Quad DAC because
      1. they are just not audiophiles
      2. the Quad DAC isn't that spectacular compared to some audiophile players at the price point above $200, it's just convenient to have it

The audio that is produced through 32 bit quad dac along with 32 bit tidal files is the only way I can listen to music these days without cringing. So theres no way I would go iphone or samsung unless i could afford to have both because the headphone experience is that important to me. I'm keeping this phone will not be trading it in even once i get my next upgrade. I will go lg once again, kind of waiting for the notch to dissappear before i buy another phone. I tried the V40 against my S8 Active. Video wise, straight out of pocket I liked the S8 more. I know if I were to tinker with the settings, LG would overwhelm the Galaxy. With an increased battery, better stereo sound, boombox, quad DAC and thicker dimensions, I'm ready to try out the G8. Biggest reason I stick with Android is choice of variety. So yeah, competition is welcomed, I don't have any brand loyalty.
P.S. You've finally nailed the 810G rating's purpose. It doesn't mean the back/front glass won't crack. It means the phone will still be functioning after such damages. So many people including myself before this video think it means the phone will remain undamaged.

Honestly I was already impressed with the quality of the shots I got out of this phone, but watching your reviews on this particular phone have REALLY opened my eyes to what the possibilities are when shooting with the G8. I'm starting to use manual mode more often to obtain the PERFECT shots. And now I'm waiting on a gimbal to be delivered so I can start experimenting making cinematic videos. I stopped caring for his reviews long time ago when I realized most of his videos are just pretty shots and b-rolls, then enumerating features then saying "it's good", "it's nice", "I like it", "impressive" etc.
Not really as informative as other "smaller" reviewers.

I really dislike that video, he just straight out says "don't buy the LG g8" I couldn't believe that he would go there, it just seems irresponsible for someone with that much power and that many viewers to bash LG and try to convince people that LG and the g8 are inferior to pretty much every other company.

Excellent presentation of information and great topics to bring up for discussion! I appreciate the fact that you are honest about where you stand and are able to clearly give credit where credit is due. Unfortunately, the echo chamber issue is so far wide spread beyond even just tech. It is frustrating when people make it out that you have to take a side (or brand in this case) and cannot compromise on that or acknowledge that there are differing opinions and benefits that the other side brings. It is either all or nothing. Thanks for your insights and open mindedness (or perhaps actually testing the tech and providing the pros and cons and comparisons and providing that info without strong bias or push to one specific device).

I was literally at work having a comparison talk with a colleague who has a Galaxy S10 and I basically told him the exact points you mentioned after he attempted to "shut me down" with the standard BS these garbage "Tech CZcamsrs" are saying. I'm tired of people trying to tell me what I should and shouldn't buy. I'm a consumer first and I judge products with my wallet based on the features it offers and how they apply to me. First off, thank you. This video is exactly what needed to be said for a long time now. I would consider myself a tech enthusiast and I like to keep up to date on technology and devices. I've noticed in the past few years as Techtubers have become more prominent, the factual information has reduced drastically and the socially popular opinion is smothering actual data. The reason I found your channel previously was because I much prefer a wired audio connection vs bt any day of the week and came across one of your videos where you physically tested each phones audio output and provided real tested data. I would much rather have that than some off the cuff "well it doesn't really matter anyways because you can just use bt". Your content is detailed, colorful, and greatly appreciated in a vanilla world of so called reviews. Keep the great content coming. For the other bandwagon guys hopefully people will realize real eyes see real lies.

Great video Juan with great insight. I've used everything from HTC, Samsung, and lately the LG phones. The LG G2 I got for my daughter a couple years after it came out was a great phone. The LG G4 that my wife and I both owned was a nightmare of bootloops (and almost caused me to quit on LG). Then we got the V20- which was a fantastic all around phone with a replaceable battery that gave you the option to add an extended battery. It's rugged, great aspect ratio, and a flat screen that you can use a glass screen protector with. I purchased 2 LG G5 for my in-laws (they were like 1.5 yr old refurbs) and they have worked great also- no issues at all. The only reason I am upgrading to the LG G8 from my V20, is because my new car with Android auto doesn't work well with the V20, apparently android 8 in general has some issues with android auto and can be flaky. Verizon has a deal for an LG G8 for $20/month x 24 months-that's just a great value that can't be passed up. LG does come up with some gimmicky things, but at least they are trying to innovate. That whole hand vein unlock thing might seem silly at this time, especially when the finger print reader works so well, BUT that is some really cool tech that in the future could provide the basis for other innovative features. The more players in the game, the more competition there is, and the faster innovation comes. I think using the panel as a speaker is a great idea. If i were to change anything regarding that setup, is that for calls I would keep the panel full range response, but when watching media I would have the panel reproduce lows and mid-lows, and I would add another speaker to the other end of the phone, and the speakers at the ends would cover mid-high and highs- this way the stereo imaging would be back and balanced, yet have a fuller sound because they would be using the panel also. Sorry for the rant. Thanks again for the video!

And I'm the type of person that's trying to find the best phone for the best price. I can't really afford to spend $1,000 on a phone with my new kid and I just don't really think that I want to spend that much money. Yeah just like you said there's so many good deals for the LG G8 and the other LG lineup that is just crazy but I do feel like everybody always pushes Samsung and Apple you're awesome dude!

As always a very articulate well presented video. I'm a fan - well done.
I'm not really bothered about camera quality because most mobile companies produce cameras which can do a good job.
I'm a musician and audiophile so this is very important to me. Currently I'm using an S9+ which is quite good but I'm looking to upgrade and tempted with the LG V50. Especially after watching your videos.
From some reports I've read that the NOTE 10+ is not much of an up grade in this respect.
So I'm looking for the best audio reproduction. Another thing. I wish presenters would use classical music when they review rather than techno stuff.
    Keep em coming.
