- Chicken and rice is one of these perfect combinations. Popular in nearly every country with every cuisine adding their own flavor and perspective on the combo. In this video we are going to look at 3 very popular styles of this combination, that are served in Vietnam.

Every time you come to Vietnam, you don't want to go back because there are so many delicious dishes that you can't find anywhere. I love Vietnam
Pretty sure every country has their own type of cuisines that's can't be find else where. Though, many of dishes are being replicated anywhere in the world that does the same result.
@@nexokami same result? you should have tasted Pho or Banh Mi in the US. It won't be the same result like in VN :)
Really love your delivery in these videos. No shouting or sticking cameras in people’s faces like on some other channels trying Vietnamese food. Really professional.
Keep it up!
Thank you, I hate that too. We always ask permission before shooting
Just recently I’ve started to notice how much it annoys me as well. The way they make sure to be the loudest in the restaurant, try to get everyone to interact with their dumb camera and films everyone without any permission at all. Really insufferable and to be completely honest typical of white travellers

I'm a Vietnamese guy that doesn't know how to read or write in Vietnamese. I came to the US when I was 3 yrs old and was pushed to only learn English. But now I have no excuse to not be able to. I will definitely hit up those videos you recommended to learn Viet
Về chơi 3 tháng là nói được tiếng Việt vì có sẵng dòng máu Việt 😅😅😅
I'm surprised by the way you explain about each dish, it's so detailed and exact, like you're a native person in our nation. Nice work !
Awesome thank you
Anh này có vợ Việt Nam và qua lâu rồi
One day you will have your own TV show. A producer is gonna see this and wil sign you up in a heart beat. Mark my words Chad.
😂
seem like he wont
You forgot to mention one thing. Those dishes very healthy just like organic but tasty and flavorful.
For those of you wondering Hải Nam is the Vietnamese translation for Chinese Hainan province. So it's literally Hainan rice chicken.
Also if you want to make that rice, it's super easy. First stir fried the Gao, or uncooked rice (usually in oil). Then, boiled your chicken. Don't rip the chicken up yet, throw the entire Chicken into the boiling pot.
The proceed to use the boiled chicken broth to cook the stir fried uncooked rice. And voila Hainan rice chicken.
The secret to the crunchiness to Vietnamese salad is either young bamboo shoots or banana tree peels.
In Vietnam, banana trees are used in their entirety. The thin white and brown slice that you see in the salad is the banana branch peel.
Youre making my fat ass hungry. Gonna have some mid night Com Tam with some brisket and pickled radish
Banana flower is my favorite part of the banana tree.
@@PandoraBear357 did you try cooked green bananas. It's good too
@manhphuc4335 brother can you tell/show me how to stir fry the gao for this? i'm a complete newbie at cooking, i followed a few recipe on youtube but they all taste bland with a hint of chicken smell, this sounds like the missing step, thanx in advance !!
@@MrQ12elve so normally we put the Gao in a wok, so that the heat is kept within the rice, and you only need to stir fry shortly.
Put the rice in a wok, heat up slowly, after a while, put oil (vegetable oil) at the rim of the wok so sips in the Gao slowly. Stir until slightly gold. Then wait until it cools slightly, then cook in the chicken broth you just cooked.
Remember to use whole chicken to cook the broth. If you chop up the chicken to use as broth, it will get dirty and sifting the water to clear the broth loses essential fat and chicken taste.
Cook the rice and broth in the rice cooker, I vaguely remembers some recipe puting bay leaf along with it, but I'm not sure so put in at your discretion. Just safely cook the rice in chicken broth normally.
Vietnamese food is so healthy and delicious.
Yea, I think that's why big chain fast food are not able to compete due to local foods beibg cheap, quick to prepare, healthy and delicious.
That why fast food chain cannot compete to streetfood
South Vietnam Foods ❤
@@KFC431 in terms of being cheap and quick to prepare, fast food chains can do better in those category compared to street foods that uses quality ingredients to prepare foods. Of course, street food from another country would be more cheaper, however if they made their own stall in US, you will see that prices for those are higher than fast food chains in US. Fast food still delivers food really fast with hundreds of customers each day.
It's always a joy to see foreigners appreciating our cuisine. Please be mindful of where you choose to eat because some ppl will try to charge foreigners more money. I'd say it's best to have a local guide with you. Cheers and have fun!
> charge foreigners more money
is this really happen in HCM city?
@@Khanhj It's pretty normal for tourist hot spots to charge foreingers extra. It's everywhere, Vietnam is no exception. Doesn't matter if you're in Paris, Seattle or Sai Gon.
He just violated our culture, while they criticize our food. How do you criticize a cuisine if you're not eating it right, for millions of years Asians always eat 1:2 meat to rice ratio together in a bite. My grandma always says if you eat the a LOT of meat without/less rice you're terrible to the family and disgrace to the culture
@@jamess1977🤡🤡🤡
@@jamess1977 what the hell are you on about? I can't even tell if this is sarcasm or not. If not eating right is your way of defining culture appropriation then I'm violating my own culture I guess. Who the hell eats the exact same way of other ppl? Get real.
Every time I visited Vietnam, my aunt would get me white rice with a chicken thigh and drumstick. I never found out which cafe she got it from before she passed away but it was the absolute best.

Vietnamese version of Com Ga Hai Nam is a bit different than the original dish invented from Hainan Chefs that immigrated to Singapore and altered the original Wenchang Chicken. Singaporean Hainan Chicken and Rice is more complex in favors (tho just still "boiled" chicken and rice) due to the boiling technique they use and the seasoning in the broth. It also usually comes with three different sauces, but Vietnamese tend to like to pair Ginger with poultry. Both variation tastes good and has its own charm that's represented of where it's cooked and eaten. In the US many Vietnamese restaurants that serves Goi Ga will also add a lot of thinly sliced lotus stems for the refreshing crunch factor, Doing it at home you can find Jars of the lotus stem at Vietnamese/Asian markets.
Lovely video, some people may call Vietnam as a poor country without much fancy and advanced fast food joints but the truth is that those joints simply just fail against these authentic, healthy, cheap and absolutely delicious traditional cuisine
@@Dragarsucksatlife oh im vietnamese myself so i know lol, i can definitely confirm that nem is heavenly though! Only thing better is grilled nem in a bowl of bun thit nuong!
LoL
LoL
Well in this case traditional is not the right word to use since Hainanese chicken rice is Chinese in origin. Also the reason comes from the fact that Jolibee, Lotteria, KFC is dominating Vietnamese fast food right now. Heck even Burger King had a nice (but niche) run. McDonalds just can’t compete, not to mention the multiple knockoff chains and places that serve food similar to those from popular fast food chains.
as an vietnamese kid, i can confirm that this food is very good, even one of my favorites!
I hope you enjoy the food!
i wasnt able to eat this because my mom said the oil to make chicken and the rice is expired...

I love the way you describe every detail of the food and I LOVE IT
vietnam getting sooooooo popular to the world im so proud😤😤😤😤
Your pronunciation is great, very audible and recognisable even when you are speaking two languages simultaneously, and your learning strategy is absolutely correct, after all, that's how Vietnamese children learn too. I study German, English and dabble a little in a few other languages and I realised that English is quite one of very few languages that do not sound the way it is spelled according to the alphabet, I actually admire how children from English-speaking countries manage to learn every single word like that without an actual rule.
my gosh, i'm a Vietnamese oversea student. I'm longing for some cơm gà right now, and your video just poped in my suggestion. i love the way you describe how you learn Vietnamese. Can't help but notice the aftermath of trying 3 different dishes at the same time. Glad you enjoyed it.

Yooo the production quality is through the roof! What program are you using if I may ask?
The Vietnamese version of Hainanese Chicken Rice, called Cơm Gà Hải Nam, uses fish sauce with ginger flavor instead of soy sauce.
Additionally, the Vietnamese version of Hainanese Chicken Rice is often served with a side of pickled vegetables, such as carrots, daikon, and onions. This is not typically done in the original version of the dish.
Overall, the Vietnamese version of Hainanese Chicken Rice is a delicious and flavorful dish that is unique to its own culture.

It's interesting how the chicken rice is named after Hai Nan province in China, but the dish is known to be Singapore cuisine. Even more interestingly, I have never seen it served in any Chinese restaurant overseas.
