    Thanks again Brian for yet another masterclass in not only spraying techniques, but preparation and most importantly colour matching. You obviously have a good eye for that too! Willing to take the time to get it right. After all it must be right, because (nearly) everybody notices and criticises mistakes, no matter how small, without commending the perfect hard work. Enough said. Keep up the good work!

    I work at a Toyota dealership as a painter in Finland and I work with these new raw plastic bumpers pretty much every week. I've worked there for about 2-3 months now. I pretty much only do prepwork because I'm a newly graduated car painter from vocational school. We use PPG products so our methods are a bit different. We actually scuff the surface with degreaser and a shop towel. So we use it as a scotch pad in a way. That gets it scuffed enough for the paint products to stick but it isn't too scuffed and we don't have deep scratches. It also removes all the dirt from the surface too. Then it goes to the paint booth were we usually degrease it once again. Then I (not everyone) use DX-103 antistatic liquid and wipe the bumper with that. The antistatic liquid removes all the static electricity. Then we put on D820 adheasion promoter just like you did. And then we put on DP 4000 wet on wet primer that has been thinned with D8740 plastic thinner stuff (don't know what to call it but it's thinner). And then paint. And I guess it's a working technique because I've never heard of any warranty resprays or anything like that. It's very refreshing to see how other people do prep work and painting on cars.

      Ducktapejesus yup. Pretty much the same way. Thats dx103 is strong stuff but works well to remove static. Your methods are proper!

    Video ideas: cutting in jams, sides and things like grills with lots of corners, hard to reach, surfaces. Strategies, prep, sequences. Talk a little about bases, vs effect coats vs clears. How does setup, technique change. What about approaches to different colors. Painting plastics, especially color changes and repairs to textured surfaces. Next, buffing & color sanding. Minor touch ups (chip or scratch). Insulation precautions to avoid chips, scratches etc. Cleaning gun. More on gun choice as one starts to edge past DIY or have money to burn as a weekend warrior. Id also build on home shop painting theme. We experience harsher environments. How to mitigate. As long as you're not pushing unnecessary stuff, products you personally use is great to see. After one video, I bought the IPH 400 and the orange cap. You should get credit.
    I've taken 4 pages of notes from your channel. I think you've got real talent as a painter, but just as much as a personality and instructor. I think your channel will take off. You have what it takes.

    The surface of the plastic becomes what is called tribocharged from the build up if static due to rubbing. One way to remove the static from a surface is to blow ionized air on to the surface. that charge on that bumper could be upwards of 60,000 volts! to put that in perspective a shock in your finger takes about 2000 volts to feel it.

    Do you have any videos that might provide a tip on painting bumpers with narrow deep cone-shaped pockets? For example, fog lights on trucks tend to have them

    • @theberengersniper
      @theberengersniper Před 2 lety +1

      To paint deep pockets you need to be able to gain tight control over where and how much you spray, so you'll want to narrow the fan right down and reduce the amount of fluid. You can always apply more paint but it's very hard to take it back off again! Use the narrow fan to spray in a controlled manner, then build the paint up bit by bit until you achieve full coverage of the entire pocket area.

    can i make a video request? Maybe you could do a separate video, or even include it in a video where you already have a job to spray-- could you do a paint gun run through, or tutorial? Maybe go through the types of spray guns you use, and which one you use for which each step such as a high build primer gun, a sealer gun, a basecoat gun, a clearcoat gun. what size nozzle/needle tips on each. HVLP or LVLP? Your air pressure at the wall and your air pressure at the nozzle for the different materials of paint (primer, base, clear). How to set up your spray pattern with the amount of air and fluid to get ideal atomization. And maybe even a proper gun cleaning walk through. Are you cleaning your guns with a branded or off the shelf solvent based cleaner? or are you running straight solvent through them? or do you have a waterbase cleaner or just water? etc etc.... all the ins and outs of just spray guns.

      @@PaintSociety I have watched your videos and I have notice you use different products depending on the job you are performing. Because of your experience and knowledge I think sometimes you know the process of which one to use as second nature. As a beginner I like simplifying concepts to feel more encourage to do the job. I think it would also be beneficial for the viewers to have a video without you having to paint a car where you talk about different scenarios about when to use different agents/products for the type of job to be used as begginer guide to just start painting.
      Just as a quick example when I was watching the video I saw you were color matching the color but I thought the manufacturer already provides the color code located on the trunk or door jam. I just get confused since I am beginner and I don't have the knowledge or the means to combine different paint colors. I would really appreciate your time if you can create that type of video. I am a really fan of your videos. Never stop filming. Amazing videos! Thank you for the time you put on creating videos!

    What’s going on paint society !? I have this task I want to accomplish at home. I recently got a solvent based primer bumper and I have started prepping it by cleaning it with lacquer thinner (not sure if it was a good idea). My wiping towel seems to be getting black every time I go to wipe. Did I mess up by cleaning with lacquer thinner ?

      Most likely you got a cheap aftermarket bumper with a low grade primer. You shouldn’t use lacquer thinner because it is stripping the primer. You actually could have just washed and cleaned at the same time by using a soapy water and a gray scuff pad. Then hose it all down. You can use a soap called scuff stuff.

      Also keep in mind in this video the bumper was raw plastic with no primer. You bumper has primer already

      What should I do know after I have already wiped off the entire bumper with lacquer thinner ?

      Nzane Photography its not the end of the work. It’s probably good that you got it off. Make sure you get it all off then just scuff it with a gray pad lightly. And you then can follow the steps in the video because the bumper will be raw
