Not gonna lie, I actually love the idea of a Horus redemption arc.
It'd make an awesome book series of him re-birthed into the modern Imperium, having to see what he has wrought, how he went from the beloved and favored son of the Emperor to the Imperium's greatest evil.
Imagine it going like, He awakens on a Hive-world, far from Terra, confused, his memories a mess, wondering where his Son's are? Where his armor went, why is he dressed like this? He processes it slowly, as he wanders in a daze, in a sort of twilight-zone feel, of everything being similar but slightly different, as memories slowly start to fill in. He see a grand procession of citizen moving towards a grand building, a cathedral and he follows them in, hoping to find the leaders here. He struck by a feeling though, that if he enters the building he'll learn something terrible, but pushes forward anyway, entering the building in surprising stealth, watching from the back of the procession, he see a Marine in red armor take the podium, he looks familiar, and he smiles, a feeling of nostalgia takes him looking at the familiar face of the Astartes. He listens to him speak about the importance of this day and the sacrificed that happened for them, for all of the Imperium, and of the foe that was defeated thanks to that sacrifice. Horus wonders if this is some local holiday, perhaps honoring some martyr, unti he hears his name called, nearly preening as he almost steps forward, only stopped as it is called without the warm, reverence that he is used to.
As it's said in a tone of black rage, the Marine snarls the name like it was the most vile curse to exist. A feeling of dread pools in him, he realize hasn't look up yet, he has to force himself to look up, as the Astarte's delivers a speech in the background, of the Emperors greatest son, who allowed the defeat of the Lupercal. Horus stares at the mural on the top of the cathedral, of his beloved brother Sanguinius. The mural is nearly perfect, as his brother lies dead, wings spread behind him, arms crossed over his chest, a halo of light behind him. He looks peaceful, the image nearly perfect, almost a one-to-one recreation of his brothers beauty, only off by a degree only his trans-human eyes and memory can notice.
It's wrong, though, memories play across his eyes, comparing and contrasting the image with the reality of what he had done. Reliving it, as he murders his brother again, beating him like a dog. His hearts feel like as though they were crushed by a thunder-hammer, It's then that he looks toward the Astartes, realizing who's son he's looking at, and by chance does the Astartes make eye-contact with him, just as he says the cursed name again.
The Astartes eyes do not bulge, a son of Sainguinius's eyes do not bulge, they are too fair a specimen to do so, instead the pupil dilates to the maximum, their superhuman eyes absorbing the sight before them, he is not sure why, but as he says the words, looks eyes with the man who even eclipse a space-marine in size, does a rage he's been fighting his whole trans-human existence reemerge, as his finger claw against the marble podium, gouging and crushing, he cries out. "HORUS!"

@@DirtyMardi The first and foremost tenet of christianity is loving god above all else. Forgiveness is just one of the teachings, and the different branches can't even agree how it should be done.
@@DirtyMardiI think its a matter of balance and proper self-reflection. Horus could achieve redemption by a complete acknowledgment of his crime with no excuses, total devotion to the mission of repairing the harm caused to the point of self-sacrifice, and doing something big that could be considered as equivalent to the amount of harm he unleashed, with his life as the extra prize to pay. Only then, total redrmption may be considered. And even with that, i would not blame if many dont forgive him even then. there would be some cool sense of symbolism if Horus came back and had to go about his redemption as a 'lone wolf'
It would be interesting if a reformed Horus were to team up with Valdor, of all people, with the intent to kill the Emperor for good (so that the Emperor has the opportunity to reincarnate as the Star Child and heal)
@@Stormmblade I wonder why so many people want to kill the Emperor. They don't know what would happen to him, and the Imperium would pretty much implode
@@AxolotlInMC Well that's why it would be interesting. The setting of 40k, at least prior to Guilliman's return, is literally characterized as being stagnant. The Imperium is stuck in a stalemate against the forces of Chaos, and the Emperor is a husk of his former self; not appearing to be getting any better even after 10k years of effort in trying to protect his faction.
GW has set up some very interesting possibilities, with the Star Child, or the Dark King. Nobody knows what might happen if the Emperor died for real, it might save the Imperium, or it might doom everything.
I'm not sure they should even get to the end of that. I just thought it would be very interesting to see the internal conflict of Constantin Valdor, Chief Custodian and one of the Emperor's staunchest defenders, to side with the "Archtraitor" Horus against the Imperium. And that reformed, loyalist Horus attempting to redeem himself by finishing the task that made him into the Archtraitor to begin with. And for the possible implications that the Loyalist Primarchs, who are defending the Golden Throne, might actually be perpetuating the problems in the Imperium. Or maybe they are protecting it from a very clever and manipulative scheme. Who knows?
They shouldn't necessarily answer those questions. But an actual Loyalist (non-chaos) civil-war might spice things up a little.
@@Stormmblade Well, it could be interesting from the meta perspective, but I'm talking about the people in the story. Why would they want to kill the Emperor, when they must know that he's the only thing keeping the Imperium together
@@AxolotlInMC In the lore, belief has power. That's the reason given for why the Emperor didn't want people to know about Chaos during The Great Crusade. He didn't warn the Primarchs, because that would have strengthened Chaos. Ironically, that was his downfall.
But the power of belief is a two-way street. Now, the Imperial Cult has millions of planets, with trillions of humans, all worshiping the Emperor for the better part of 10,000 years. There's real power there, and occasionally it manifests in the form of Imperial Saints, or the Legion of the Damned.
Most people in the Imperium are ignorant to that, but a handful of individuals are aware to it. Valdor being one of them. If the Imperium has enough belief, they might be able to ascend the Emperor to being on the same level or even greater than the Chaos Gods. Kind of like the way that the Eldar created Slanesh.
In universe, there's some whispers of discussion between whether the 'reincarnated' Warp Emperor would be benevolent (The Star Child) or vengeful (The Dark King). Some people think that the Emperor can't reincarnate yet because he hasn't technically died.
A redeemer Horus returning is something I'd be into, but that's mostly because I'm a sucker for redemption arcs. A broken man putting the pieces of a fresco, that he smashed, back together one piece at a time.

@@patrickdees5256 I'd like to imagine all nearby Astartes feels genuine fear when they hear Guilliman say "Logistics be dammned"
.... You know what, I'm completely sold. This sounds like a pretty fantastic potential storyline. Although if that were to happen, as much I would love to see a "Horus in the throne room talking to the Emperor for the first time in 10,000 years" scene, the one thing that I would REALLY love to see more than anything else would be Horus finding and putting an absolute beat down on Erebus. I mean, come on, we all want to see it. On the one hand, it would be utterly hilarious: Erebus fleeing into a dark room, running for something powerful that he can't quite identify but that he has a sinking feeling and a strong sense of dread about, and Horus just stepping out from the shadows, smiling, and saying something like "Hello Erebus, did you miss me?" before laying down the galaxy's biggest asskicking since the Necrons got told 'no' by the Old Ones and took it WAY too personally. More seriously though, that would be SO cathartic, the story between them coming full circle in a way. That dang Chaos prick finally getting what he's deserves for 10,000 years, that would definitely be worth the price of admission.
Erebus meeting his end to a returned and redeemed Horus Lupercal does sound very fitting…
Don't forget that his fear would attract Corvus and he'd be destroyed the instant his soul enters the Warp
Not to mention the fact that it was Erebus who made the Horus Heresy possible.
'Horus' is reknowned across the Imperium as the satan figure/representation of chaos for the Imperial Cult. If he were ever to actually return, i think a name and wardrobe change would be the only solution to prevent the Custodes or Grey Knights from hammering him into the ground.
He would also have problems with the blood angels
@@tomsmith247 Blood Angels and all their successor chapters.
Well in Custodes case I have doubts. Because Emperor can order them to find Horus and bring him back to Terra. After all he can speak and probably can force visions in Custodes minds.
It would be very interesting to see how the Grey Knights reacted to him. The thing is, as I understand it, they're supposed to be tightly attuned to the machinations of the demons, so I'd suspect they could tell if someone was not warp tainted as well.
I could just as easily see them catching him and determining that he is not warp tainted, and being the only group in the Imperium that is not trying to kill him.

Honestly I would be down for this idea if they dedicated like a whole book to Horus and his souls trials and tribulations in the warp while actually coming up with a good explanation for Him to come back to the physical world in the end. He could meet the souls of his fallen brothers, his fallen sons, deamons he's consorted with. The chaos gods themselves to a degree. It could be something similar to the divine comedy where Horus has to journey through all the realms of chaos in order to reach the other side. I think it would be a very interesting redemption ark that also gives us a look at the maelstrom in a way I don't think we've really seen before?
Obviously it opens a kind of Pandora's box, but the what if factor is really cool to me.

Horus wearing a wig, sunglasses, a 6 meter long trenchcoat and a top hat: Im...i...Im Borus.....Borus Pupercal
Trazyn would do everything in his power to get Horus in a pokeball
Dude Horus coming back would be the biggest heel turn moment in 40k history. And its just so poetic and grim dark. Its like not only would the gods be fking with him as he sees what he's done live and personal but he also starts the long road of fighting for or fixing the IOM. He won't use his name of course, and if he does him sure the Lion and Robute are going to have words hunting him down. But its a good counter to Abadon who's been on a serious winning streak. The Indom Crusade has done alot to foil some of his plans but he's still at large with further plans falling into place.
I've always thought Horus returning redeemed would be a great story potential. Returned to a strange time, hated by both sides, secretly trying to help the emperor.

Even Lorgar was able to fight off a dozen basic boys. Imperial fists are just the imperial version of the disposable bad guy in these stories. If you need a hoard to kill off, add imperial fists into the story.
I'm convinced porterrabo being a very sensible man despite him having his shortcomings might be able to help out Horus in this great time of need.
.........I want to call heresy but he hated chaos and the imperiam. I can totally see then carving out an independent human section of space.
I dont know I mean the possibility is there but perturabo also held a lot of resentment to horus because he if anything treated him worse than the imperium and played on his emotions more than the emperor, to an extent. I think he might but it would be a longshot that would likely end with perturabo just using him.
I have to chime in on the idea of a redeemed Horus with this. You're right he would be hated by everyone, hence why any redeemed traitor Primarch would need to reinvent themselves. They could never be "Horus" or "Fulgrim" again. If Clone Fulgrim returned redeemed, he would likely be known as the Phoenix or some such in line with the Space Marine chapter, likely fighting a shadow war against chaos, perhaps with some allies. Redeemed Horus would have it even worse, he would be a "lone wolf", and it fits both narratively and with his wolf pelt aesthetic motif. Redeemed Horus would be THE Luna Wolf...the last of his kind still trying to do what is right in his father's name...alone. For such would be his penance for all that he has done.
The Luna Wolf vs Black Legion would be akin to Abaddon vs Clone Horus again, only this time it would be the Black Legion getting bodied. The clash would be quite a comparison metaphorically speaking, because the Black Legion has fallen so far from what the Luna Wolves were that it would only make sense for a redeemed Horus, the exemplar of the Luna Wolves, to just beat them silly. Hell, after all, is to be in the place where you see either where you used to be and no longer are...or what you could have been if only you chose differently.
Yeah you’re right! Honestly it’s so interesting and I’d love to see how they’d deal with it especially with Horus
Completely silly headcanon: he is already back, reincarnated as Ciaphas Cain!
But in all seriousness, I think the old lore still holds as the cult of the emperor’s official narrative while we as the readers and fandom know he’s not as destroyed as we thought
Ciaphas Cain being the reincarnation of Horus would be funny. It would honestly explain why he seems to survive so many life threatening situations like if his dad was the Emperor using his powers to protect him behind the scenes.
not just the guilt of what he did to his father, but add also the guilt of torturing Sanguinius to death and the part he played in Ferrus's death
The two individuals that could be trusted to bring Horus up to speed without their mind being clouded by storms of emotion would be Constantin Valdor and Alpharius/Omegon, interestingly enough. And both of them have plenty of experience operating on the down-low.

I would love if the first chapter he came into contact with was the Lamenters of all people. Just imagine, you have all the hatred and sorrow of all the blood angels turned to 11 and mixed with bad luck. Though they wouldn’t because they aren’t a “main” chapter
Honestly if Horus does return he technically wouldn't need a permanently physical body...
In fact it's possible that Horus is leading the Legion of the Damned...
Leading a legion he has no control over, and that hates him for his actions for eternity as self punishment is a very Horus thing to do
now I want a series of Horus trying to make his way through a galaxy against him
Im trying to imagine the scene where the Blood Angels come upon Horus, they all start screaming his name in bloody murder, and the Commander starts to get real irritated about the noise the death company is making... only to realize that they haven't made landfall yet. A real One Piece facefall moment there, really XD
There is another who would accept him back. Omegon.
GOOD POINT
Horus Lupercal is by far my favorite Primarch of them all. The prodigial son who fell harder than all, such a tragedy. It would be amazing for him to return. I imagine him being surrounded by imperial forces, Guilliman and the Lion, and whoever else is there, all approaching, ready to attack, him trying to reason, to talk, but to no avail. Suddenly, a massive psychic wave of gold comes, and a scream is heard "ENOUGH!". Suddenly, two spectral figures appear behind Horus: the Emperor and Sanguinius. All bow down in respect, even the two brothers, and Horus is taken back to Terra.
This image is ENGRAVED in my mind!
Also, It could be that Horus, upon his death and liquefying of his body, was simply transported elsewhere, maybe by the Emperor himself, into the future, so that he could once more help lead humanity into the future.
I really hope he doesn't tho. I didn't like that change on the end and the death 3, it felt too "standard" of a resolution
Thats fair, I feel like the book tried too hard to be subversive at the end
I put this on that original short but there is actually a fanfiction called the Lupercalian redemption which is pretty self explanatory.
My theory is that Horus will return on the vengeful spirit as a very damaged soul in the last Black Legion book, too damaged to be recovered or used for ressurection and can only have one final chat with Abaddon before fading into non-existence, getting taken from the emperor into the emperor’s realm or just remains and can only just watch everything from the first black crusade all the way up to the recent Lions return.
I've read that too great fic sad that the sequel died

I can relate to Horus. Doing heresy is ****ing rad and gives you POWERS. Screw dad, get them POWERS.
"No way, I can't have been lied to. I asked Erebus for a source and he said 'trust me bro'"
I thought the idea was stupid, but as the video went on, I agree this would be super interesting to see. A primarch with no legion, no allies, nothing but the cloths on his back and the skills he's learned seeing the consiquences of everything wrong that has happened because of him. (mostly because of erebus but no one in the setting knows it's erebus's fault.)
24:45 "Especialy someone wearing a wig, a begle pus and calling himself Boris" this part killed me
Horus Heresy has returned for the Warhammer 40k
You made very good points in the video and I agree that a redemption arc for Horus would be pretty interesting, especially since he would have to deal with the fact that he is the whole reason the Imperium is what it is now, but I personally think that bringing Horus back isn't a really good idea. For me, it takes away the significance of Sanguinius's sacrifice, it makes Abaddon and his journey to succeed where Horus failed even less significant, and I just think his death and the legacy he left behind is far more interesting rather than resurrecting him as part of another one of Big E's notoriously convoluted plans, it just feels cheap to me. Love your channel btw :)
Somehow Horus has returned.
He has a few people he can win over to use, The Average imperial Citizen (mortal), Adeptus Mechanicus, The TRUE First Primarch Legion, Necron, Inqusitor, Renegate Marine (with/without unknown geneseed), etc
Would be funny if Cypher could be Horus in discourse XD
I actually love this and totally agree. Horus was possessed, he was a puppet - if he is reborn I see him stalking the shadows of the galaxy like the Punisher. OR… a straight up pacifist on an agri-world who refused to engage and has been there for thousands of years already.
In Wolfsbane we get a conversation between Horus and the Emperor

Just like Papa Palp. "Somehow...Horus has returned."
I would actually be interested in seeing a story in which Horus returned. Maybe he could link up with a loyalist Alpha Legion warband. They might be one of the few groups that would knowingly work with him.
Dorn did most of the lifting during the siege but sanguinius gets all the attention, sad😢
That fact that all these customers allow these changes is mind blowing to me. STOP PARTICIPATING IN THE MADNESS
If Sanguinius comes back first, could you see him forgiving Horus?
Considering the current "respect" for the lore and the hyper-greedy mindset of GW, then we will almost certainly have Horus return.
They'll just add a few lines in some Codex and hey-presto, Horus lives!
If Horus returns, i hope he returns as just a ghost who will point the way to the loyalists. Not as a functional primarch and with no hope of living again, trapped between life and death. It will be a fitting punishment for Horus after committing so many atrocities. I don't want to see Warhammer turn into like DC and Marvel where popular characters always return after death. It becomes boring.
But he is a mini god
my head canon picture for him if he returns is that, he'd be kinda like the Penitent One from Blasphemous.
On the topic of Primarchs returning I as an iron hands fan personally believe that the best way to bring back ferrus manus would be to have his soul somehow interred into a robotic body something that goes directly against his beliefs leading to a wonderful story of him trying to convince his sons to not disregard flesh and emotion while being the very thing that his sons strive to be and watching him struggle to reconcile his new form with his personal beliefs and struggling with his own humanity
Maybe he should try changing his name when he returns. To something no one would suspect... Like Horace for example
Make a video about what if emperor returns
Oh boy that would be fun
@@livefromtheblacklibrary 40K theories did a video about that years ago.
Unsurprisingly the comments were flooded with TTS references
@@akumaking1Didn't he also work with TTS in a video if the Emperor could be brought back with cyber dongs? Or was that someone else.
@@crocidile90 that was 40k theories iirc
Plot twist. Horus coming back fills the blood angels with forgiveness and not rage
The fact that all the traitor primearchs have their souls in the warp being tormented really highlights to me just how much of an uphill battle dealing with Chaos is
Horus returns, then goes on an epic quest to gather Sanguinius's soul since he destroyed it and fragmented it. Thus, only he knows where to look for it, and alas redeeming himself.
I believe that the only path for Horus to return would be somehow connected to a reborn Sanguinius.
I can see a scenario where Horus finds some of the thrice cursed Chaos Marines that still worship him and having some new power (like how the Lion can forest walk) to cleanse or teach his fallen sons to reject the Dark Gods, having done so himself.
He has returned to claim all 40,000 Warhammers.
Horus was Daddy's favorite by far. He IS the prodigal son, and like any prodigal son he will be welcomed by his father and scorned by his brothers.
😂😂😂 “Boris Lupercal!” 😂😂😂 LMFAOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Hahahahahaahaaaaaaa
Big E and Horus are shown having a conversation when Big E introduces him to Russ in Wolfsbane
Horus: "I've replanted the crops fought off the invading Orcs, Tyranids and Chaos forces and saved all the children on this world."
The Entire Imperium: "That son of a bitch what nefarious schemes could he be plotting!!"
Oh boy, if Horus comes back as a good guy, the Blood Angels are gonna be sooo confused.
Ok but Horus has already returned… as the Sanginor
A Horus returned, having his experience with the Big 4 tugging on his brain, would make a kickass Grey Knight.
@Tigran-Abazyan Hatred may corrupt, Grey Knights do not hate chaos all that much more than your average astartes, remember "Clad in the armor of Contempt"
"All Primarchs will make a return in some form."
all the primarchs shocked and horus himself goes "Yeah honestly I'm as surprised as you guys are."
Meanwhile Vulkan after seeing Horus reborn after 1.5 nanoseconds:
BROTHER ITS YOU! HUGGIES!
A Phantom Primarch would be cool.
His true identity should be left ambiguous so people can assume who it is but we all know the truth.
"A celestan prime is implied to be karl franz in aos kind of deal ."
I believe that the Horus clone story is still canon. Since even if Horus did come back, it would not contradict anything. Fabius Bile might be the clone lord, but when it came to the Primarchs he stated that he could never get them right. The closest he’s ever gotten was Horus and Manus. The Horus clone having a perfect body, but having no soul, and only having a mind built by what Bile knew of him. An excellent comparison to this would be in the DC show Young Justice when Vandal Savage has Ocean Master cloned and builds his mind from the ground up. Sure it’s convincing, but those who knew him were able to see the flaws when they asked him questions he should know. As for Manus, his mind was a perfect copy (despite what Deamon Fulgrim claimed) but him body would rapidly degenerate. No idea about the soul situation there. But alas, even Bile is disappointed by his attempts at recreating the Primarchs, because despite his best attempts they often fail and are destroyed by him. Ironically his one success in recreating a Primarch, that being the clone of Fulgrim was probably a twist of fate outside of his power. After all, Fabius Bile even states when he rediscovers the clone he once thought destroyed not only survived, but did so despite impossible odds, he’s amazed. Honestly wish more was written, cause it sounds like some sort of higher power was at play here.
Great video ! I’m always impressed by how you make seem intuitive some pretty amazing leaps of thought about wh lore, while other channels obviously barely recap things they have read here and there
If Horus ever came back he should only comeback as a regretful soul in the wap trying to reach Abaddon or any of his remaining sons to try and get them to abandon chaos
Great stuff. Love your dramatic presentation. Cheers
Quick little addendum, the black legion does have someone like Bile, Skalagrim Phar, a former member of Bile’s consortium, who were students of Bile and in the end of the Bile trilogy he was delivered to Abaddon having eaten a cloned brain of Bile to gain a lot of his knowledge, if I remember correctly
I actually forgot they can eat brains to gain memories and knowledge
if Horus was to return I would start building a sons of Horus army (I love their paint scheme & and Horus as a loyalist)
