This was an excellent video. I learned quite a bit. Fortunately my tiller only needs the seals replaced.....for now.

The gearbox on my horse tiller seized up and fortunately i found an older gentleman here in my area with extensive experience in rebuilding these and he has said he will be willing to repair mine. Local Mower shops don't have the time or experience required to handle these sorts of jobs.

Thank you for sharing your video on the Troy-Bilt. I have been enjoying your videos up to now. They have been very informative and I truly enjoy you explaining every step you do. It is like listening to a teacher making all the comments and opinions. You are the best. Could you list the links for all the manuals you have been using? Thank you keep up the good work and the very detailed videos. Please don't make shorter videos. I prefer long videos showing me every step you have taken. Raw videos are better than edited videos.

Thank you very much for your kind words and I am very glad it is of use to you and others. That was my intention when I made them. As to mentioning it to my parts supplier, I am not one to, toot my on horn, so to speak. If you would like to bring it to their attention, you are more than welcome to.
If I can be of any assistance to you during your rebuild please let me know.

Thanks for going to all the trouble of taping and explaining what you are doing! I plan to replace the wheel axle, bushings and seals for my 1980 horse II. Everything looks the same as yours. I just want to replace the old shaft with the new without gutting the transmission. Do you think it would be possible to push out the old axle with a steel rod that is the exact same diameter so all of the gears stay in place? Or possibly with the new shaft? Thanks!

Where did you get the 160 page trans manual at ? I'm trying to figure out how to remove the tine shaft bearing race on the side with no bolt on cover and there is no lip to tap it out ?

could you post the url for the website where you found the 150+ manual to help disassemble the transmission? I am working on a similar model with a oil seal leak.

I noticed something interesting when you were trying to align the shaft/key with the marks on the gear. Since there were not any alignment marks on the clutch, it looks as if the pin holes to attach the tires align with the key on the shaft. If this is the same for all shafts then the pin holes could give a rough estimation on how to align the key with the gear.

I had to go back a watch the video again but it appears that the key is in line with the wheel pin holes. I would guess that most of the others are also but not for sure.

I assumed that the keyway is inline with the pin holes but mine was off by maybe a 1/16". I don't know if they are all in the same position or not. I used a Harbor Freight inspection camera and stuck it in one of the "windows" on the outside of the larger gear after lining up the marks with the pin hole. If you can't see the key, turn the shaft 180 degrees and look again. Saved me a lot of time and frustration since I had to remove the axle with one wheel permanently attached to it. You can also buy an inspection camera attachment for your phone for less than $20 on line.
