Dad is absolutely the issue here. Kid couldn't wait to get away from his dad.
Taking all that away, OP is right. the little one was absolutely used to yelling. I babysit for a living. The kid wakes up sometimes if it's quiet enough to hear my tummy growling when he's asleep on me. It’s not just SAHM’s in trailer parks. DV victims can be doctors, lawyers, teachers, police officers, managers. Abusers aren’t only found among the unemployed drunks. Abusers can be doctors, lawyers, teachers, police officers, managers. All too often it’s silent for way too long. The abuse isn’t always physical either. All too often it’s mental abuse and that’s much, much harder to prove.
The woman in this video is lucky the officers believed her and got him away from her so fast and so calmly. I remember sitting in a dismal, cold office with half my face bruised and swollen beyond recognition, one eye completely shut and trying to report my SO. The officer refused to write anything down or to give me a case number. He advised me to go home, calm down and think about it. Because my SO and me had a kid together “and this type of report has consequences”. I went home because I cottoned on: that officer was one of my SO’s drinking buddies.
It took me seven more years of hell and a giant stroke of luck to finally get my child and myself out of there.

Screaming and yelling saying how I was going to take him home. Then he shoved my friends mom almost knocking her down. My friends mom, his wife, and i had been gone all day for a baby shower thrown about an hr and 45 mins away. After doing that trip there staying 4-5 hrs then coming back i was exhausted. I told him we will sleep here and I'll take you home in the morning. I shouldn't have been dating the guy i was 17-18 he was 24-26. I'd never seen a mean drunk before that day. I broke up with him that night telling him you wanna go home you walk back. I refuse to drive you while acting like this. Then when that story was not adding up and he said she hit him. Unless she is a masochist. I find it hard to believe she would attack her drunk violent husband, while her children were awake and in her clean home. Knowing that if she loses him he will probably make getting any support from him extremely difficult and she is going to have 2 small children to care for and no way to pay her bills. Her life is going to be very hard either way. I know from experience that leaving someone when you are the home maker and they are the bread winner is a very scary perspective. In 2011, my now ex-husband punched my head through a window while I was driving. The resulting crash made my face smash all over the steering wheel. (It was my mother's car and her airbag light had been on for months but because we were dirt poor there was no way to fix it. And also her insurance lapsed and her car was completely destroyed.) when the car crashed there was an ambulance behind us and I believe that was God. When we came to a stop I was still sort of knocked out and he came over and ripped me out of the driver side of the car and threw me down into a ditch on the side of the road. I believe that I would have been dead if it hadn't been for that ambulance. He tried to say we hit something in the road but when I woke up I told them what happened. He ran away from the hospital when he realized that he would be arrested. And then he tried to call the police on ME saying that I hit HIM!
I trapped him after that so that he would think that we would still ne together enough to keep him there when they arrested him.
So the police came over to where he was hiding and my ex said "no thanks, I dont want to press charges on her anymore"
The cop said "we are for YOU"
    AND TOOK HIM AWAY.

I dealt with this growing up and it was not a great childhood. I saw and went through some horrors as a child because my mom would leave and always go back.
She is a nervous wreck, I truly hope she got away from him and stayed away for the kids and for herself.

Whereas I think the cops were decisive and took action quickly, they should not have allowed the two of them interact. It only exacerbates an already volatile situation.
As for him, he's a loathsome, snivelling coward. Think you can beat children and women because you pay the bills? YOU impregnated your wife, they are YOUR children. You are THEIR father. You are supposed to protect YOUR children at all costs.😡

Trust me as a retired police officer. He did the right thing. You would be surprised at how many women try to stop us from arresting their husbands after abuse. This way he gathers information as they’re arguing. The cop saw she was serious. I had one woman jump on my back, swinging at me trying to stop us from arresting him. She even had a black eye.

Growing up I had an alcoholic, violent stepfather. He made life hell every, single night. I wish people realized how terrifying this is to children.

I totally understand how you felt.. my only break from the “physical” side was when my stepfather would go back to prison for his other crimes.. then it was just emotional trauma he inflicted until he was back out then all three kinds of abuse would start again.. 😢 it’s a horrible was to grow up, living in fear and being abused..

Question (as a teacher always wanting to help my students)…how did this impact you as a student…what sort of indicators (if any) could a teacher have seen as a ‘pattern’?

Me too. My dad was an alcoholic from the time I was a toddler until I was 25 years old. You got no clue how many fights I saw between him and my mom and even my sister when she became a teenager. I even saw him strangle them a few times. That stuff stays with you the rest of your life and shapes who you become as an adult.

Oh he pays for the house? Well, she does all the child care. So what’s your point? She isn’t entitled to stay in the house? Then by your logic you’re not entitled to the kids. What a POS
