In the words of Chief Brody: “Thank Christ…”
lolol..i use that phrase a lot myself...people think im bat sht when i go there.
@@jayedwards3122 SameSame,Double True:)Who else y'gonna thank?:)
I was hoping they would cancel the rest of the movies all together. At least that talentless hack is gone though.
Exorcist 3 is the true Exorcist 2 and the only Exorcist sequel that exists.
I totally AGREE, they never learn there lesson but they keep making them. Exorcist 3 is fantastic a masterpiece
🤣 Exorcist: Leave it to Beaver I love it!
The fact that he got the gig even after the atrocity that was Halloween Ends says so much about Hollywood
What is so Horrible about Halloween ends? it's not the best out of the franchise but it's not unwatchable
@@MrBibi86 I could try to explain it to you but if you have to ask, then you won’t get it.
Tell me. I will get it@@Jsizzle6809
I legit miss these type of videos from Dave.....
Agreed. Friedkin directed “The French Connection” before “The Exorcist”. A Horror director is not needed for a proper sequel.
Not surprised, Universal you spend $400 to $500 million just to get the rights to make three films and you have David Gordon Green make it!
I don't understand their logic in Spending half a Billion on the rights. Sure, The Exorcist original was amazing and people seem to like 3... but exorcist isn't really a Horror franchise with a lot of fans and there have been more misses than hits when it comes to this franchise. They should have just paid for the rights to make one film and see where it went from there. they probably didn't even spend half of that to get the rights to make the DGG Halloween trilogy .
@@MrBibi86 I agree, its insane they thought they would make money off this!
They got the merchandising rights too. That’s gonna make them more than the movies ever would.
@@iforgetjustwhyitaste1061 Even if they have some merchandising rights I guarantee it's only related to the new films and that's it!
Probably for the best for everyone
Thank God
I’d consider Ti West. We need directors like him who know mood, atmosphere, suspense for something like Exorcist.
bingo. He's probably affordable and his style would imo be a great match.
Yes!! He would be perfect.
I would go with Mike Flanagan however Ti West would be great
We need directors like him to keep making original authentic masterpieces. He needs to stay as far away as possible from these empty franchise cashgrabs. He has way too much talent to waste as a simple drone for the studio to slap his name on their movie and not alow him any creative control on a franchise that is doomed to fail.
@@Billy_Lenz I hear you, but if someone could actually give credibility to a franchise, it would be him. Imagine NOT fearing news of a franchise movie coming out and being genuinely excited?
i wish david green walked out on hallowen ends instead of what we got , DAVID GEEEN STOP MAKING LEGACY SEQUELS!!!!!!
To be fair Halloween Ends had 4 credited writers so it's not all DGG's fault. Halloween Ends is hardly unwatchable
If you’re signed on as the new director, I will go out on a limb and predict this awesome podcast will go on a short hiatus.
😒😒 “Exits” is an interesting way to spell fired
Thank You,Dave 👍 for keeping us updated.
He exited because he knew he fucked up.
Exorcist Ends 😭
I consider The Ninth Configuration OG Exorcist Canon-Jason Miller's in it.William Friedkin said he would"Go after" DGG in the afterlife.I believe that game's in play:)
Yes, Im open to a sequel. Linda Blair showing up at the end was a nice surprise. Not to undermine Ellen Burstyn but I would've much rather had Blair in the bigger role. Believer had so much potential but a lot of it was left on the cutting room floor and it just wasn't scary.
I am not surprised he left.
The Exorcist: Sigorney Weaver
Good. Maybe this way the last two movies will actually be decent.
Hope Green won't direct new remake of the thing. Great video. 😊
I think Scott Derrickson or Brandon Cronenberg would be a better choice than Mike Flannigan or James Wan. If we're talking about non-horror directors, I think Stephen Soderbergh might be an intresting choice.
Tucked and ran....
I wouldn't be shocked if they went the safe/lazy route of straight up remaking The Exorcist and Legion for the next 2 movies, assuming this option was part of the deal. No writers/directors seem capable of doing anything interesting with the lore introduced in the first movie.
Exorcist: Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver
*James Wan could be a good director for it. I don't mind DGG directing. I love Halloween 2018 and Halloween Kills is OK. I even give Halloween Ends 5/10. I know fans are just pissed off because of the lack of Myers. but he literally had more screentime than in Halloween 1978*
I thought Believer was decent. It’s nowhere near the level of the original Exorcist but I was entertained throughout. It ends in a way where I could see how the title “Deceiver” could come into play, so I would’ve been curious to see what Green would’ve done to continue the story.
Thank god personally think they should cancel the next 2 films no more
If they gonna move forward they should get James Wan to direct the second movie,
That’s what I said above he’d be brilliant.
🎉🎉🎉
My vote is for "Dream Weaver"
If only you could direct, Dave. I have no idea where I'd go following Believer, but I'm sure you could figure something out.
Damien Rugna would be a great director, I love Terrified and quite enjoyed when evil lurks as well
I would like to see Quinton Tarantino direct
Hmm 🤔! Not bad
Green also tried to get out the Halloween franchise after his first film. He wanted to do.....are you ready for this?.....a Star Wars movie.
That’s the issue. They got someone to direct the Halloween movies who isn’t even a huge fan of Michael Myers. That’s crazy!
@@Jsizzle6809 I think he seriously lost interest in doing more films after that first one. The weird thing is, he and Danny McBride originally pitched two films, but the studio would only agree to greenlight one film.
If you're going to get Horror right as a writer, you've got to write what truly scares you and not what you think is going to scare others. Because then you find others who relate and your imagination is on full display rather than you having to heavily rely on nostalgia or just on someone else's tricks they've already used before. Desensitization in the audience highly depends on how you build up your story and characters blended in with the tone and violence. If your heart and soul is in what you're doing, then you will find a majority who are impacted by your craft.
These are what it seems like David Gordon Green lacks as a writer. And Halloween 2018 showed he once had that.
Brandon Cronenberg or TI West should be the new director.
Cronenberg is too good for this crap
Probably the best thing that could've happened for Exorcist fans.. Guy has an off sense of direction for Horror.. Sometimes he gets it, but majority of the time he doesn't. Not saying that he should stick to Comedy but that seems suite him a lot more
I would like to see what Alexandre Aja could do with an exorcist movie. I’m happy we are getting a new director though. Exorcist believer was really boring for me. It was a chore to get through the 3rd act. And it didn’t have any magic from the original and it didn’t even feel like it attempted to be something special.
Yeah . . . “Exits”
JAMES WAN 1,000?
They should just shut it down and take the loss
Blumhouse has to remember there are people like Scott and co that are just as guilty
It’s not all DGG, I hope people understand that. He did great stuff for 2018 and half of kills. Something else was at fault too
Blumhouse should just stop. They can make fluff like night swim and do fine for that crowd
Leave the franchises alone and just make something new
Maybe they can get John Boorman to Direct....🙄 Leave It Alone...LET IT DIE! The Exorcist (1973) is a One Of A Kind Film....Damn it is an ORIGINAL!
One of a kind agree to a point but exorcist 3 was fantastic so not necessarily maybe they just haven’t managed to get the right ingredients and magic and director screenwriter involved get those right who knows but they haven’t up to now not since 1990 with exorcist 3.
@rachaelhogan7850 I totally AGREE! But, technically, that film was not supposed to be an "Exorcist" film, per se, William Peter Blatty wanted to call it "Legion"...like the novels title. But studio heads saw $$ and used "Exorcist III" and added an unnecessary exorcism at the end of the movie, to coinside with the title. With that title, they are acknowledging that "Exorcist II: The Heritic," was connected, but it was not. Wish they would have kept it "LEGION." Don't get me wrong, this movie was still AMAZING, as was the cast performance, especially Brad Dourif! 😈👌🏻
YES, THIS is the TRUE "sequel" to "The Exorcist" (1973).
They should just scrap the whole trilogy. We never needed another Exorcist sequel.
Leave it they already killed
Nah, not for me. After the last one ended it did not leave me wanting any more. The marketing would have to be pretty spectacular to get people interested in seeing another.
It's about time people realized how overrated DGG is. His movies always seem like some half baked mix of some really good elements, brought down by God awful creative decisions and bad writing. 2018 on its own isn't terrible, but the trilogy as a whole is a fucking trainwreck. If they had let him, he was about to do the same to The Exorcist.
Are you taking into account his comedy movies, too? Because the general consensus about his Halloween films is that they are not good at all. To put it politely. So, I don't understand the overrated comment unless you mean his entire filmography.
@leedaley3404 He may not be overrated at this point, but he certainly was heading into 2018. People acted as if we were getting the 2nd coming of Martin Scorsese to breathe new life into the franchise, lol.
@@SomethingThatSCREAMS 👍
Believer wasn't very good, or at least the second half really shit the bed in a way that has to be seen to believed. But on its own it made $136 million on a budget I assume to be less than $30 million. And tbh it wasn't anymore cringe than Halloween Kills or Ends. Maybe Blumhouse figured out too late that DGG just doesn't make very good horror movies, and they sure as shit aren't going to make back their $400 million investment with him at the helm. And two words: Ti West
Surely Ari Asters name has to be floating around any potential sequel.
I think Green is terrible, I'm glad that he's gone.
Gordon Greene is finished, he's a hack. Hope he never touches anything again.
Not horror anyway
My actual prediction for the sequel title to their final Exorcist film would've been "The Exorcist: Redeemer". Not that I actually care, Exorcist: Believer was absolutely god awful. I really liked Halloween 2018 and I honestly didn't even mind the sequels to that. But Exorcist: Believer is absolutely the worst horror film he's made. If they pull the plug on this whole Exorcist trilogy, I would totally be fine with that. Exorcist 3 is the only Exorcist sequel I need anyway, that one is great and i don't need anything else after that.
I wouldn’t waste a seasoned director on this. Horror or not. I think what they set up with Believer was so lame, generic, and uninspired, that there’s only so much that you can build off of with a sequel. Even if the sequel was incredible, it would seem so inconsistent in quality and tone with the first one. They had their shot with Believer, they had plenty of time to get a good script and Director, and I think they just played everything safe, and blew it.
Didn't see Believer, but after seeing that "damn patriarchy" scene, I'm glad I didn't. Yes, it's one scene, but as Hopper from A Bug's Life said "you let one stand up and they ALL stand up". I get he's a villain, but it's not like any of their dialog is incorrect😂
*Some people are so aggressive and rude when they talk about DGG. a little uncalled for. He made a mediocre film! he didn't kill your dog. lay off a bit*
I think David Gordon Green should hang it up with horror films. The Halloween Trilogy was not good and those movies consecutively got worse.
Exorsist Believer was another miss for him and was just cookie cutter bullshit.
Not sure why people think he's some horror icon.
I don’t want anymore no believer was god awful hideous dreadful mess unless they get a fantastic director and writer forget it
I honestly don't like dgg in horror, he's great in rom com, when they announced he was directing the new Halloween trilogy, I was disappointed
to bad dgg directed the Halloween trilogy cause he made michael and laurie not siblings which ruined the trilogy dgg is a good director but not for the Halloween or exorcist franchises in my opinion
I think it should be scrapped all together
Dave, mike flannigan, while I do like his work, is an outspoken atheist.. I don’t think he would be a good fit
Being an atheist has nothing to do with it. You don't have to believe in the Christian God in order to tell a great story about possession. William Friedkin was agnostic. You just have to understand the story and the material you're working with.
✝️ 🧟♀️🕯Well I'm not all surprised yet i didn't think that Exorcist Believer. Wasn't as bad as people say with a fresh director hopefully can spin new creative respect to the upcoming sequel but we shall see.
you need to check it out again but of course it's gonna have its " cult following "
Woke exorcist
Sooooo you wanna yak yak about these interviews you’re “pretty positive” exist…….but ya can’t do a search on CZcams for them? Mmmk. He made a godawful mess of the 3 Halloween movies…..there does NOT need to be a sequel to the suck azz AWFUL badly written Believer movie 🤡🤮
David is a good director, but The Exorcist: Believer just didn't hit.
Not as far as horror.
Neither did halloween ends
Undertow is an awesome flick.
I have only seen a couple of his movies outside the genre, but I can't imagine liking the others very much. His writing is terrible, and even solid actors tend to give weak performances in his films.
@@SomethingThatSCREAMSthe only good thing I saw from him was Pineapple Express
I guess the whiners got their way….
i think the lack of box office figures did more of the talking...
Yeah, because the movie was so well recieved by critics and fans...
We found the one person who liked the movie!
The movie was fine. The climax was underwhelming. Hopefully someone can improve upon what they’ve established.
Good. He's terrible. Exorcist Believer was awful, as was his BH Trilogy. Dude needs to stick with comedy.
I actually like believer 🤷 but I'd like to see it continue why not and let's be honest DGG shouldn't of signed on for 3 exorcist movies right after doing 3 Halloween movies come in make your movie and fuck the sequel 💯🤘😂
100% damage control. I guess exited is a nice way of saying Universal fired him
After what he did (or really, FAILED to do) with Halloween, and now Believer, I just don’t think he’s cut out for horror. I don’t think he ever was. And I don’t really understand why Blumhouse ever thought he was… 🫤 I wish him success in whatever he moves on to do though.
It’s too bad they didn’t get rid of him after Halloween 2018.. those last 2 Halloween movies were utter garbage. Ends was just awful
