I’m starting a petition for Joseph to compile every movie title introduction that Nick does into one video and post it at the end of the year as a Christmas gift. Last night I saw the original "The Exorcist" in the theatre. Believe it or not I had never seen the entire film before. It was truly amazing!
I hope it was the original cut. Anyway, the big screen is the best way to see it😊
I saw it on Sunday in the theater. It was great. Some of the sound is cut/paste but that's what they had to work with in 1973. All-in-all, an excellent film that still holds up in many ways.
Agreed. It has stood the test of time as well. It's a shame that director had to ruin the sequel.

@@Sassyquatch1020 Oh, no. I’m sure it was original it just sounds sometimes a little like it was “pasted” in or doesn’t fit with the rest of the sound.
I saw the trailer where Ellen Burstyn's eyes were bleeding and I thought it was a nightmare Angela's dad had or something, but I'm very disappointed that they decided to go down that route. I don't care how much money they paid her, Chris MacNeil did not need to end up blind! The writers did her character wrong!
Since it's all fiction anyway and Chris was quite elderly, I'm just changing it in my mind to Chris dying peacefully at home earlier this year after a long, fruitful life which included a close relationship with her daughter throughout it. The end.

@@lateramae I sure think so. Of course it's all fiction, but I'd rather have her die my way then live their way. I'm definitely skipping this Exorcist. And probably the next 2, but we'll see.
@@richardherdman2121 I agree. I'd rather have her die peacefully than suffer as a blind old lady. In the new film, they said that Chris and Regan hadn't seen each other in years. Well, even though they reunited in the end, it was practically pointless because Chris literally couldn't even see her in front of her face because, oh yeah, she's freaking blind. I'd rather watch 'The Exorcist 2' than see the new Exorcist films. At least Chris was untouched in that film.
@@lateramae Oh definitely, I'd watch The Heretic instead too - at least it's a comedy. 😆 I distinctly remember seeing that with my whole family in 1977 at a small theater in Montauk Long Island while on summer vacation. There were parts that we thought were so ridiculous that we all started laughing uncontrollably. Then the whole theater started laughing. It was like a contagious thing. Really good memories.
They destroyed Laurie Strode in Halloween and now they've destroyed Chris MacNeil. These guys are sick.

The demon in this movie is Lamashtu. In the original, the demon was Pazuzu. So when Chris McNeil says "We've met before" it makes no sense. Only one of many mistakes that feels like they didn't bother with script rewrites at all.
LOL that demon trick at the end is such a massive fail! At this point everybody knows that demons lie all day every damn day, even by omission, so why would you not tell the demon to be clear on what kid you are choosing and for what?? 😂 Dummies! Awesome review guys as always, thank you!

I read that Green confirmed that the demon was NOT Pazuzu. The article from Cinemablend stated that it is Lamashtu.
Aside from the original Exorcist movie, I think my favorite possession movie is The Rite with Anthony Hopkins.
Talk to Me, Hereditary, The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Possessor, The Taking of Deborah Logan. So many good possession movies.

I'm so disappointed. Chris writes a book and Regan goes into hiding... I was hoping that wouldn't have happened. In my mind, Chris would not have done that. I was hoping Green would have explored what happened to Rolland Doe after his possession.
I agree. I can't fathom Chris would do anything to upset Regan after her (their) horror. Bad writing.
I saw this trailer in imax at an Oppenheimer showing on a Sunday afternoon. There was a lot of elderly people gasping in the audience. It was funny and …wrong. Lol!!

1)who called the ambulance when chris got her eyes gauged out the there were no police
2) how did the dad just take his clearly disturbed daughter out of the hospital 3)why didnt they do the exorcist in a better place
4) who explained to the cops at the end why all these bodies were there
5) how do u just send ur daughter back to the same school to resume like nothing happened

I thought Ann Dowd's character was Sharon in the original, especially when Victor asked her "Have you ever had an experience with this?" She doesn't answer, but stares off into the void

This sounds like a hot mess. The Exorcist is a complete story. Tagging anything on to it was bound to fail.
I’m curious if the arc through the trilogy is going to end up being finding a way to get Katherine back. I can’t imagine what kind of through story they can tell otherwise.
I totally think that's the direction the trilogy is going to go, and I wouldn't be surprised if Linda Blair returns as Regan to somehow connect with Katherine's soul through astral projection or something ala Insidious. Crazier things have happened in a DGG movie!
This was a great review! It's a shame they didn't respect Ellen's character. It almost seems like she and Linda were window dressing. If they appear in the rest of the trilogy, I hope they are given more to do. I do think they picked a great time to release it though. Thanks, Guys! ❤

The first of 3 installments?!!! Please, no. I hope Ellen received a very hefty payday. I'd love you guys to review Exorcist 3 and hear your thoughts on that one. If they made this rooted in hoodoo/voodoo lore, it would have been more interesting. The seance scene you're describing is giving me that Crucible opening in the woods. @l05555 I find that worship & belief system fascinating. We've only received just a few films that dive into it: Angel Heart, The Serpent & The Rainbow, The Skeleton Key, even the og Child's Play. I want to see it done respectfully and get the arthouse treatment.

Love your reviews. Honestly, I was hoping this movie was a spin off the Exorcist series, which I really enjoyed as a follow up to the movies(especially the first season which was directly following Regan). As someone who loves the horror genre and regularly views Exorcist and Exorcist 3, I thought the writers/director of this movie were just working too hard and could have easily followed the recipe already established in the previous movie(s). In the original movie, Father Karras and Father Merrin were both being spiritually drawn to Regan and Chris, sort of like this weird spiritual quest that was leading them to this spiritual battle with the demon Pazuzu possessing Regan, and the demon was also fully aware and preparing itself, waiting and even challenging God/Church. I thought it would have been far more interesting if Chris and ultimately in the end Regan, because of this connection they have to demons via their experience, were similarly being drawn to these girls and their families and they go to the church to ask for permission to perform an exorcism, because the church won't, or something along those lines. It would have also made a lot more sense and wouldn't have felt as forced.

Would you guys consider doing 'movie explained ' videos ever? There are times when I get very curious about ya'lls take/interpretation of good and bad movies.
Hollywood has the urge to shit on classic great movies with these god awful sequels, they really don't get it The Exorcist was so great because it is very realistic it is like a documentary, toss in a cameo and a child doing something crazy which is not shocking anymore and some jump scare don't make a horror movie.

I was excited and was going to bring my daughter until I realized it was a David Green movie.
Before I knew it was an Exorcist film, I thought they’d go in a direction of changelings and it looked so good. Then as the trailer went on I was like…oh, bleh. LOL I still love seeing Leslie Odom Jr.
I pretty much agree but gotta say as a stand-alone movie it was, at least, better than the latest Halloween movie which were utterly horrible and well, it was nice to see Linda Blair again.
I thought it wasn’t too bad, I saw it on Tuesday at a prescreening. I liked the Dual exorcism and that they incorporated the Black witch doctor. Rootwork doesn’t get talked about enough.
I like Leslie’s character too, I was a little sad Katherine didn’t make it. 😮💨

I really wanted to give David Gordon Green the benefit of the doubt even though I felt meh about Halloween Kills and HATED Ends. I wanted this to be good so badly. So disappointing.
Totally agree that it cut a lot of corners, especially in comparison with the original. As soon as I saw it was only 98 minutes, I knew it couldn't touch the original's multiple layers and deliberate storytelling. Rather than a trilogy of short films, one solid 2-hour film would have been a much better choice.
Also, what happens with Ellen Burstyn's character just felt overly cruel and gross. To bring back a beloved character and actor (not to mention 90 year old woman) and have that be her fate feels like a slap in the face.
All that said...I enjoyed the movie well enough. Leslie was really good. I think I was over-hyped with how TERRIBLE it was going to be that in comparison, it was fine. A fine empty-calorie studio horror.
The still was giving me Pennywise but I get the Ricci as well.. Demon: "who TF else is coming to this exorcism?"..the butcher, the baker and the candlestick maker...
I hadn’t planned on seeing it in the theater, but now I know I won’t even waste time if it’s streaming. “The Exorcist” and “Halloween” are two of my favorite movies of all time, and I hated David Gordon Green’s “Halloween” trilogy. It sounds like he ruined yet another iconic series.
