I wouldâve laughed so hard if my dad tried to intimidate my husband and my husband just went âboop!â and poked him in the stomach
Same! I thought that was hilarious and adorable at the same time.
It was a brilliant move to flip the situation that way. In one bold, silly, adorable move, he yanked every smidgen of power and control out of their big, meaty hands. What a great way to stand up to a wall of bullies!
"MY DAD WAS A SAILBOAT, HA HAH HA-"
I died laughing!-
That must've been interesting experience for the mom.
I *have* heard sailors say their one true love is their boat, but this is a little... *overboard*, shall we say?
My husband won my parents over before we were even dating. We met in April 2015 and started off as just friends. A few months later I contracted a staph infection and had to spend five days in the hospital. He took the time to come visit me in the hospital even though I was pretty far gone from the morphine. When I got out of the hospital, I spent the next couple days at my parents' house recovering (I was 22 and lived the next town over). He drove out in the middle of nowhere where my parents' house was, took me out for dinner, then took me out for dessert, then meant to drop me off but got caught up getting to know my younger siblings who were still kids at the time. My parents came home from whatever they were doing, he introduced himself and made fast friends with them (he's an extremely charismatic person). They were touched by how he took the time to visit me in the hospital and then take me out to eat on his dime, and how well he clicked with my younger siblings. I fell in love with him that day. We've been together for 7 years now and I couldn't be happier.
Is that a real life relationship or long-distance?
@@kevism a long distance relationship with my husband?
The dog one reminds me of the way I won my girlfriendâs mom. They lived on a farmhouse by that time, and had a huge pitbull named tigger. Now, usually tigger was very aggressive with strangers; Apparently, he even attacked construction workers and even family members like cousins and uncles. Wel⊠the first time I arrived to my girlfriends house, I parked my car and Tigger immediately comes running towards me. My girl was scared as hell, as she thought I might get attacked. Strangely enough, tigger started rubbing his face on my legs, and his tail was moving very fast. Iâve always been very good with animals, so I started petting him. My girlfriends mom comes out of the house to meet me and sees me playing with tigger. She was as surprised as my girlfriend (When I was petting him the first time, I didnât know he was so aggressive). She said to me, âTigger hates everyone, but he seems to trust you, so I trust you as wellâ. My heart shrunk a bit. I was very very happy and loved Tigger ever since.
Nobody reading that lil bro
The one about the dog reminds me of my fiancĂ© and our dog. Her puppy and her have been through a lot. Especially with her last fiancĂ© who was for lack of a more tactful phrase unkind to them both. Roxanne (said puppy) became afraid of men in the few years to follow so she became the litmus test to see if a guy was good enough to be around. Needless to say you know where this story goes. Cue me flying 1000 miles to see her for the first time and walking into the house to her warning me about Roxanne, who she forgot to lock up, as Roxanne checks me at the door. I drop to one knee and grab her cheeks and start petting her and she immediately starts licking my hands and wagging like I was an old friend. My fiancĂ©, then newly girlfriend, immediately takes note of this and remarks âwell if you got Roxanneâs stamp of approval, you have mineâ. We have a son together and I just proposed a few months ago. But the proposal was just a formality as weâve determined the 5 years so far is only the beginning.
Awwwww, that's wholesome! Doggos are usually good judges of character.
â@@s.p.d.magentaranger1822 not cats tho...... my sisters cat ran away after meeting me
i won the support of my then girlfriends single mother because i tried to hide behind her rooms door, when she came home way to early. i failed with that attempt and she found me right away. she completely laughed her ass off and thought it was hilarious. i even miss her more than my ex girlfriend. she was something else, maybe you know how it feels when your girlfriends family feels like actual family. that break up hurted so much more than any other break up.
Iâve got a story. Jamming out to 80âs rock ballads on a road trip with my boyfriendâs stepdad. It. Was. Awesome. My boyfriend watched with absolute horror as the pair of us sang relentlessly the entire drive.
6 foot 7? Congratulations good sir, you win at everything.
Pretty much. All doors open up two men who are 6'2 and above in my experience
My boyfriend won over my mom by showing her respect and kindness. Before it was a problem that he refused to interact with my family because he was scared that they were like his. Eventually I told him to at least talk to my mom for a bit. And he did! They had a really nice long conversation. And ever since then, he's made friends with my siblings and still has chats with my mom. The respect and kindness comes from my boyfriend not trying to argue with her for something they disagree with. And if he acts that way with her, he most definitely acts that way with me. And she's correct!
23:37 the laughter made me laugh too đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
My fiancée won my dad over through many actions. One specific hobby, collector of Rocks. My dad was a collector himself. Once my then boyfriend showed him his collection, my dad loved him even more. He walked me home, he gave me lunches after school, he lectured me over my well-being, of all the things he's done for me, Rocks takes the cake.
Some of these stories are just so wholesome. I think the two real nonnegotiables for any good parent re: their kidsâ partners is whether they are a good person, and if they treat the kid well. In the big and the small stuff.
My Grandma was born and raised in Missouri but moved to Oregon before my Mom was born. My Grandma also hated every single girl I brought home. She always said I should date a good Southern girl. I brought my wife home for easter one year and she made deviled eggs for everyone. Grandma loved deviled eggs and she said they were the best she had ever had. Wife and Grandma got talking about recipes and my wife's accent came out when talking about Pecan Pie. Wife was born and raised in Mississippi. After spending a day with her, My Grandma had decided I need to marry her. We had only been dating a few weeks at that point. Grandma knew she was the right one.
The moment I knew my dad had fully accepted my SO was when we officially moved in together. We were a couple a month after meeting and I unofficially moved in after 3 months, five months after meeting we got an apartment together and moved in together with the help of my family. One of my brothers was in a mood and it ended in an argument that made me walk away to burst into tears in private. So I go into the empty bedroom to cry and my dad follows me trying to talk me down, he doesnât succeed and I start crying, I have always been sensitive and struggled with mental health and dad has always been the one to comfort and calm me, so he takes two steps towards me with his arms out to hug me and stops. Because my SO came running immediately when he heard the dam break and I automatically reach for him. So dad lowers his arms answering watch my SO immediately swoop me up in his arms and start rubbing my back and talking to my hysterical self soothingly and calming me. Out of the corner of my eye I saw it all, it was just seconds but the way my dad stopped lowered his arms and after a second nodded I knew that in that moment he had let me go and fully accepted my SO. It was the moment I truly left my family of origin to build my own with my SO. I was no longer just his little girl but an adult with a partner of my own. They already had a good impression of my SO because we met just as my family moved from our family farm in to the same town SO was from so within the first week he helped us move and installed outlets and lamps at my parents new house, well and mine still lived at home by then. But it was seeing how he handled my fragile emotional state that sealed the deal for my dad, he did care what my SO looked like or how good he looked on paper, Dad only ever cared if I had a partner that understood me and could support and calm me. And he knew I found the one in that moment. Because honestly I was a bit of an emotional wreck, very sensitive and explosive in my emotions and I was severely depressed and suicidal so obviously my parents were scared for me. Later turned out that I suffered from undiagnosed ADHD and autism and had been misdiagnosed with borderline personality disorder. No wonder I was a wreck and couldnât handle my own emotions! I had no idea how to or even how to identify what I was feeling properly and I couldnât cope with well anything really because my coping was seen as signs of borderline instead of autism/adhd. Iâm much better now, am on medication, learning to accept my autistic traits and adapt to my personal circumstances and Iâm stable and no longer neither depressed or suicidal because it turns out that was just symptoms of autistic burnout. And I have been with my SO for almost 14 years and we are married with cats! Yay!
All my sons-in-law made a point of cooking, serving, and cleaning up dinner at least once before marrying my daughters. They are all still together. The guys still cook for me occasionally.
That story about Max the Rottweiler was so wholesome, I started tearing up (happy tears) so kool.
My dad would always cuddle up to my and my sisters boyfriends after theyâd been around for a while (he did this with my husband when we had been dating for about 5ish months; he already liked him because he practically moved us out of our apartment and helped set up the new house, but heâd recently learned weâd become more âintimateâ and was being a jerk lol) so my dad sat down next to my then newish boyfriend, put his arm around his shoulders and just sat there like it was the most normal thing for him to do. Husband was a bit confused, but decided to play into it so he cuddled up into my dad đ long story short, it ended with my husband basically sitting on my dads lap before my dad was the one who got uncomfortable and stopped đđđ he was fully integrated into the family that day
telling your daughter you like her boyfriend is the fastest way to get her to break up with him
My daughter's boyfriend really made me like him when he called me to report my kid hit her head and had a seizure. She did not want to tell me but he insisted, even though they had gotten high. He still looked out. I was grateful.
Being handy helps a lot
I fixed my now ex's father phone and he love... me. he also noticed that i still use an old phone and love how i will only throw away stuff when it's no longer fixable. It's been two years since the breakup and i still visit his house for him not for his daughter.
He often introduce me to his family member so that i can at least be his family.
honestly i think i impressed my partners dad by just simply treating them like a human being, the bar was that low but honestly he's a real chill dude anyway and honestly one of my favourite people as well as fantastic parent.
The voice change for story 6 got me XD
i love how he just git more enthusiastic more more the story went on in story #6 đđ
My girlfriends parents invited me over for Christmas day (they'd never met me) and my girlfriend really wanted me to meet them. I really felt it was a bad idea. If they weren't impressed with me it would also spoil Christmas for all of us. But my GF was insistent so I agreed on the condition that I could contribute something. It seems everything was covered (turkey, ham, puddings, etc...) then I came up with the idea of a Black Forest Gateaux. So it was agreed, I'd bring a Black Forest Gateaux with me. Although I'd never baked a cake in my life, I decided to give it a try.
Now it turns out that Black Forest Gateaux uses a liqueur called Kirsch. After much searching I found a supplier and bought a bottle. I poured my heart and soul into that gateaux and a lot more Kirsch than was in the recipe. It was a big hit with my GFs mother who simply couldn't get enough of it. Now it also turns out that she was strictly tea total so became totally inebriated due to the high alcohol content.
NOBODY in her family had ever seen that woman drunk before and she became the life and soul of the party with an absolute genius mind for comedy that was a surprise to everyone present. When the penny dropped that it was all down to my gateaux, I could do no wrong. It then became a tradition every Christmas for me to bring the gateaux, but my (now) wife's mother now always eats it in moderation.
Story #18 -- I had a big smile on my face, too. I had sort of the reverse situation when my parents met my now-husband. Daddy's one of those guys to whom kids and dogs gravitate. There has never been a kid or dog who didn't love the guy. Well, at the time, my sweetie had an old (18), blind, lumbering shepherd/hound mix. Hansel, like the dog in Story #18, liked to be acknowledged. Then, he'd trundle over to his personal cushion and lie down. Not this time. One touch of Daddy's hand, and Hansel was in love. He followed Daddy everywhere, sat at his feet, and even got up to see him to the door -- and Hansel, due to arthritis, generally didn't take a single unnecessary step.
Poor Hansel died about two weeks later. We had taken him to a teaching vet hospital associated with a major Midwestern college of veterinary medicine. When we said good-bye to Hansel, they asked if they could keep Hansel's cadaver, as he could teach a lot of students a great deal about age-related changes and conditions. It's almost 29 years later, and I'm still happy with our decision to let Hansel's remains contribute to vet students' learning experience.
As for Daddy, he's now 90, and still making kids smile and dogs wag.

Also that final blooper weirds me out but i find it funny regardless
That must've been interesting experience for the mom.
When my husband and I first started seeing each other, the first time he came over (I was still living with them at the time) he just went over and picked up their cat. This cat *does not* like strangers. She started purring. Mom has told me that's when she knew my husband was an okay person for me to be with. We've been married 15 years.
I'm not the parent, but the _sister._ So I have a best friend that I've grown up with, and my parents have basically adopted her. She got a really nice boyfriend, but none of us had met him. Then, I was suddenly hospitalized bc my gallbladder tried to stone me to death; not only did her boyfriend drive her to the hospital, but he actually came up and visited me (someone he didn't know, but I was important to his girlfriend, so I was also important to him), too.
We've all (quietly) agreed that he's got all of our approvals.
My current fiancĂ©s mother didnât like any of her past boyfriendsâŠ.I know this because my fiancĂ© told me. When I met her mother I could tell right away that she liked me. I didnât do anything special that I know of. Iâm from the Deep South and Iâm an Army brat. I assume she appreciated my normal respectful mannerisms.
What's a Martian Arts Instructor? A painting teacher specialized on planet Mars?
I honestly think her dad just wanted a gaming buddie, i noticed the Playstation in their living room the first time i came to visit and the case for injustice 2 was proudly sitting on the coffee table. I asked if he played and the man lit up. We talked about the game for awhile and suddenly he got dead serious and asked who was my main, when i said Bane he leaned back and said "thank god if you said the Flash i would have forbid you from steping one foot into this house ever again, lets get nachos then beat the s*** out of each other"
Love your new additional channel! â€ïž Keep up the awesome content on AITJ and now on AITG too! đ
Not sure if this counts, but my first bf in high schoolâs mom loved me the second she met me. She was always so polite and nice to me, his dad or stepdad I donât remember never said a word. That family was a bit odd. Ex bf claimed her did every drug known to humanity and killed a 12 point buck (deer) while constantly yammering on and on about stupid things and fantasising about what our life together would be like. He constantly was horny and wouldnât take no for an answer. One time at school he had me pinned to the wall to give me a good bye kiss which I was not comfortable with him ever doing (he was trying to win me back đ) and his mom yelled out the car window âget your fat sloppy hands off her, you sweaty pig. Get your ass over here now!â Too bad he was such a freak, his mom was super nice.
I'm the BF and not a parent, but I thought to share anyway. We met online through DND and became fast friends, getting into FF14 together and always playing any chance we got. One day, we were supposed to do DND, my now girlfriend tells the group that she just found out her father passed away and that she wouldn't be able to play. We offer to talk to her that night in lieu of DND.
Afterward, I see she's playing FF14 and immediately ask her where she is, one of the capital cities in game. I track her down and give her an in-game hug and tell her "I wish I could give you a real hug but this is the best I can do." Later on, she tells me that she told her mom what I did, and her mom voiced significant approval of me. We have now been dating for about 2 years and I finally got to see both my gf and mom in person, who gave me a big hug and thanked me for helping her daughter through a very dark time in her life.
My dad is a SAILBOAT â”ïž đ€Ł
Pardon me, but I didn't get it, can you explain it to me like I'm 5?
Loved my son-in-law because of how kind he was to me mom.
I instantly won over GF's dad by asking about the Family sword they have.
Someday when I have kids, Iâll test my future son/daughter in lawâs sense of humor: If they can see through an attempt to be intimidating, theyâll win.
ME: NOW LOOK!!! đĄ
THEM: Yes? đ
ME: đ€Ł
Dude, you sound like a good person and your laugh make me laugh. Good morning and day to everyone!
For me I knew my MIL liked me after I came over and saw dishes in the sink I just started doing them. She worked two jobs and my boyfriend (now husband) worked full time while in school. Just thought I would help out because they were both so busy and it was summer so I didn't want them to get bugs.
The new channel seems fun love the content keep at it also here's a suggestion how about amitheidiot
The story about max... I'm not crying your crying.
My dad said that heâd accept any girlfriend I want. Not sure bout the other side, but Iâll see what happens.
My partner lived with their parents at the time of this story. They got covid. I homeaded dish (doesn't really have a name it just chicken, sweet peas, ravioli, and melted Parmesan cheese) brought it over. Their dad was sitting in the living room. I said hi, told him I brought food, and he was free to it. Went in the kitchen heated up to bull of food. Precided to sit and eat and talking with my partner, me outside the door of their room well they're saying in side. All of this not too out of the ordinary or in my world every unique. my partner and I had been dating for a little under two years. I have interacted with their father many times and over all he seemed to like me. I won't say we were particularly close. But after that evening. Their father will ask me to hug good byes, we have more in-depth conversation, and he just over all warmer and more relaxed around me. I think of him and his wife as an extra set of parents for whom I adore, and I think it safe to say they think of me as another daughter
My boyfriend won over my mother (didn't take much) when he asked if we should invite her on a trip we were going on
i won over my bfâs parents by bringing them froyo after every shift at my first job. we were 17 and id show up at 11pm after closing in my little froyo shop uniform with cups of our new flavors.
I won approval in a (to me surprise way)
I come to their home for the first time, the dad is sitting in the Livingroom cleaning his shotgun (later found out this was coincidental, he had no idea i was coming over) he looks at me and i introduce my self while reaching out my hand to greet, at the end of greeting without pause i say "is that a A.H. Fox?"
Dad: "y-yea? you know guns?" aaand i got a friend i still have today. im 35 and he is in his 60s. only lasted about 2 years with that girl tho...
Thinking about animals, and I should have trusted my cat.
My cat didn't trust my abusive ex, and she was his cat's kitten. He knew my cat before i did
And my ex's cat, she would occasionally go to me instead of him or from him to me, she never did that for anyone.
Been away from him for over 6 months and I'm slowly healing.
A note about that 'Southerner politeness thing' I do that too, it seems rude to just hand over the phone or ask straight away for the person you're looking for. I'm Australian and growing up, everyone I knew did it too. We got something in common Southern U.S. Americans.
Parents, how did your kids SO win you over?
~all stories are about how your SO won over your parents~
Story 12: My dad won my momâs family with his pecan pie!đ
Itâs some good pie, I donât blame them
as a Minnesotan i think i went to a light house in Duluth
#18 made me tear up( 60 yr old man w/5+ dogs)
I won my mil over just by loving to eatđ she is a sightly heavier woman that likes food and my bf's older brother always had gfs that eat like two bites and were done so she was happy when I (a really slim girl) polished my plate and asked for extra
story 7 was great, i feel like crap, and it made me laugh so hard
9:35 bet he cried when camaro was totalled
1:55 you said stopped but i see started
Story 6
THE VOICE IMAO
duuude, your laugh...!đźđ€Ł
Story 15 made me laugh. Boop!
MY DAD WAS A SAILBOAT!!!! XD
6:28 wait, 'our' parents?
7:38 wait what do you mean OUR father? Don't you mean her?
15:07 I'll have to ask my parents, but I think they're friends with this guy!
... bomb shaped grill...?
Bro some of these are such a plot twist. Like yeah mom gave approval he/she was perfect but eh I broke up with them
I absolutely love this guy's voice.
Thank you so much!
My husband won my parents over from the first meeting.
We had gotten back from Iraq in '09. We took our leave first seeing his dad and his dad's wife. That didn't go well because his dad's wife thought I was lying about being a soldier, etc. Found out later... she didn't like me because I'm not her "yes man", and she didn't like redheads.
With my parents, my mom loved him cause his quirky sense of humor....reminds her of her dad.
My dad...he did care for him, but it took 8 yrs of us married to introduce my husband as his son-in-law. Wasn't on purpose....my dad was just that way.
He loves him for being a stand up, protective, no nonsense guy.
THAT GUY WAS 6'7"
Story #6 LOL
Not me but my parents and some other family of mine and also not my grandfather or Grandma but the way my uncle actually gets flush gives approval to one of his siblings boyfriends and or girlfriend is by potentially threatening them since he doesn't want something bad to happen to them if I'm not wrong he even did this to my dad we have known for years nowadays they are married Evan for several years
Random question, is the person telling these stories Nathan Sharp?
Nope, that's me!
Wonderful subject, however, majority (if not all) of the stories do not reflect the point of view of the father or mother which the title suggests (How YOUR son or daughter in law won you over). They are all from the point of view from the son/daughter in law or, even further, from the actual daughter or son :(
Idk if they'll get married, but when her dad dropped her off he opened the door and opened and umbrella for her because it was raining. Hes just such a sweetheart. He's white and my daughter's 1/3 white... my grandkids may be see throughđ
Isn't 70% of Japanese humor puns?
3rd comment, and the new channel is sick!
Hi
I love your videos, but Iâm begging you not to do voices. They are bad, yours is awesome. #lefthandedcompliment - edit - Iâm sorry, that was mean. Your voice is so cheerful and friendly and inviting, though! Iâm a huge fan.
Back in highschool My gf at the time invited me over to meet her family. Her father wa the coach of the boston celtics and every guy chased her to get close to him. So there I am in the entrance to her house and he calmly walks over and says you must know who I am and what I do. I responded with yeah I know but don't really care as I'm dating your daughter not you sir. He liked me immediately and the mother said I was a keeper. I like to think I became part of the family with that. I miss them all.
