It's absolutely hilarious that the car company owned by the guy who steals glory is named Tesla, while the car company owned by the small time innovator is named Edison
Didn’t even think of that lmao. The irony
@@kevinhartz5513their tagline is literally “stealing teslas idea”
They did that on purpose :)
another "elon just bought tesla" guy lol when he bought it was literally just a prototype with zero production in place and they dont even use any of the tech in their original car anymore so i dont think elon is "stealing glory".
@@zachmoyer1849yeah, and without Elon there is exactly 0 chance it ever grew to the size it is today.
We need Whistleblowers - unless you're in Australia, where you get arrested for Whistleblowing :(
Not an Australian but heard about David McBride, the guy must be set free.
bruh 😐
I was hoping this would be about Boy Boy's video on the Austrailian whistleblower on military brutality that is now facing life in prison for refusing to lie and cover it up...
And the news channel that refused to air the story selling out the whistleblower to the Australian government.
The part that made me cry was when he returned home from hiding in Spain, knowing he would be unjustly arrested, after he heard his daughter silently crying on the phone because she knew her dad wouldn't come to her father daughter dance. He came, he danced, and now he will almost certainly die in jail because he blew the whistle on war crimes the government would rather keep buried with their victims bodies.
David McBride is a true hero, it's a shame that governments have a tendency of being so evil and that we allow them to do such heinous things.
I'd never heard of this. Thank you, for this post! I've added that video to my queue.
@@MichaelDeHaventhe youtuber/journalist freindlyjordies has done some really good videos on the issues the poor blokes had, as well as his own issues with our fucked up laws (he also fairly recently went to the secret american cia base at pine gap)
It's sad seeing what our military does in the name of our "national interest"
To be clear this wasn't just "whistleblowing classified military information" he exposed literal War Crimes that violate not only innocent human lives but the United Nations International Humanitarian Law.
Whistleblowers in Australia go to jail, and the keys are thrown away
I worked at an NGO providing free healthcare in a developing country. Granted our donor was the UN, and not the Canadian government, but getting grants is difficult. Really really difficult, not even because of corruption, but rather the amount of pointless paperwork required. In the early 2000s, an application was maybe 2-3 pages. Now 30 pages of deeply technical documentation is considered short and even if you make a minor mistake they can throw it out. We had 3 people whose full time job was writing applications. It always starts with someone finding a loophole, abuses the system, then the next application fixes that. Repeat that hundreds of times, and you get gargantuan paperwork. Most importantly, the people coming up with the beurocracy never in their life actually tried filling one out. There is absolutely companies that are set up to do this for you, for a fee.
This is disgusting, but Edison Motors' situation is a bit different.
From what I remember (and I may twist some fact here) they applied for a grant directly and were denied because of "some reason".
What is the problem here, is the fact that the same person who denied the direct grant contacted Edison Motors with an offer through a different email belonging to the company that is the middleman taking the 20% success fee. The whole drama is about people who are employed in these institutions *only* to deny direct contact to then redirect companies to these middlemen to take a cut. It's essentially forced bribery.
@@shapelessed i think the words you were looking for in that last sentence was " GOVERNMENT SANCTIONED EXTORTION" ahem, please excuse the caps lock
That's good ole fashioned corruption! 😊
and it's everywhere and no once can do anything because the roots go all the way up
@@sunbleachedangel and it takes a lot of focus and free time to do anything that is why they can be so blatent about it they know nobody has the time, will, and resources to do anything about it.
we have an organization here in the U.S. thats scooping up people with entrepreneurial start up ideas, or innovations to make an existing idea work better, and offering them "assisstance" in getting them grant money and getting them up and going, for large stakes in the start up and repayment on what is supposed to be grant money. they have also been accused after wringing the idea out of more distrustful people applying, of stealing the idea they pump out quickly through their existing network.
@@briancollins7296 what org is that?
The US is so bad that you can apply for disability with out a lawyer, but the government website says they will skip it until you get a lawyer. The fun bit is many of lawyers are corrupt and it takes years and they get 25% of your initial reward. The same goes for things like once every 2 years rent assistance etc… so yeah this is part of the reason USA has major housing issues.
Edison is also working on retrofit kits to convert existing 1/2-3/4 ton trucks over to diesel electric hybrid very hyped to see them succeed
Luke read that correctly at 0:26.
The company that administer the grant pressed Edison Motors that to succeed in the future, they should consider using their extremely costly service. Governments should administer their own grants for this reason, it is a textbook case collusion opportunity.
Also Barber lives with his parents because of the very high financial requirements of home-loans to small business owners contrarily to a normal wage worker; He mentioned it in a short. On the same thought while they talk about realtors, does BC not have an equivalent to Québec's DuProprio?
The sad thing is, this is what we see. There so much bullshit that just goes unpunished
Y'all really glossed over the fact that the person that reached out from the grant assistance company was officially a part of the government body responsible for approving the grant...
6:30 This goes for very rich people who get almost all the assets while everyone else pays an arm and a leg to barely get ONE of those assets
Who wants whistleblowers?
Who wants to be a whistleblower?
Talking of whistleblowers. What was the result of the investigation of Madison's claims?
If you pay attention you realize that regulations on an industry are often (though not always) promoted by the biggest players in that industry. Because they believe it won't hurt them but that it will squeeze out small disruptors that COULD grow to be genuine rivals. Those who win biggest like to change the rules to ensure no one else can beat them later.
And this is precisely why there needs to be a law requiring the total separation between government and industry. We see it in the US all the time where the regulators are all people from the industry they regulate, creating a clear conflict of interest in how our regulations are written and our grants are serviced to basically have no teeth and only benefit the major companies the people in the agency came from instead of actually regulating them. In the plaintiff’s litigation world we call that phenomenon “The Revolving Door”
If I remember this story correctly, the person asking for 20% for helping them with the grant, was the same person who denied them the grant. The same contact works at both ends, and has basically been running a scheme of denying grants, then sneakily trying to make a buck through basically "legal" embezzlement and fraud....
We contracted MNP to investigate the allegations against MNP...
Boeing doesn't seem a good company to whistleblow about right now. 2 for 2.
"The business of being a middle man should not be this lucrative." Amazon says hi, and so do most other platforms
In real world, whistleblowers are either exiled or put in jail
they absolutely love jailing them here in australia, our mainstream 'journalists' love selling them out to the gov too
…or they suddenly decide to end themselves right before testifying.
Most are suicided
Not to be conspiratorial but I imagine that credits only benefitting large companies is by design since they're the ones with significant lobbying coffers. Why waste time processing paperwork for firms that can't play the big boy lobbying game?
I don't know if this system is the same in Canada but it sounds like it.
Yeah it certainly sounds the same
With how everything in Canada is going economically, the effectively transition to service economy is and always has been stupid.
@6:30 In the US that is how workers' compensation works here. I was out of work for a month and a half before being forced to return before my recovery was completed. I was hurt on the job and there was no question about this. It took another 3 months before I received any compensation for the time I was out of work unpaid. I needed that money for when I was injured and unable to work, not after I had started working again. I returned to work because money had gotten so tight and I had depleted all of my reserve funds during my time away from work.
I hope you guys do a video with Edison Motors, they're one of maybe 2 or 3 small companies working on new electric vehicle stuff that I think have real potential
We need whistleblowers; more importantly we need current whistle blowers to stop "spontaneously" dying to "accidents".
I'd absolutely love a video about Edison motors and what they're doing!

My work was the first to run a heavy electric truck (Peterbilt 579 EV) on 'real' routes in the lower mainland. It's cool - I got to pick it up new from the dealer. It's still nowhere near as cool or functional as what Edison has created. I get why they're starting with logging given the logistics of creating production from scratch with a tiny (relative) budget but once they roll out a day cab compatible conversion kit I think our whole fleet will be transitioned over.
Glad to finally hear about Edison motors through you guys, I first saw their CZcams shorts a year ago, and only just realized you're both in BC. 😅
Bureaucracy: the enemy of efficiency.
thought this would be about david mcbride :/
another reason why I unironically want the bureaucrats back. We have outsourced jobs the private sectors and non profits. Ti very expensive administrators and we have made things more complicated. America needs a bigger, better bureaucracy. The world needs a bigger, better bureaucracy. No more hiring industry professionals to do a federal job for 4 years until we switch presidents again. We need good public servants
You're not going to get good public servants until humanity fundamentally changes. The bureaucrats are often involved in these companies and getting "campaign donations" from them. I suspect they are intentionally making the application process as difficult as possible so people have to rely on these companies.
@@Fulano5321 Career bureaucrats don't get campaign donations because they're not political positions and are not elected, nor even appointed. They're just working a job, and the people who are directly interacting with the elected politicians are the ones who have slowly been promoted (and have the protection of that long career if a politician instructs them to do something illegal).
Political positions should never be directly involved in the administration of these sorts of things, neither should for-profit entities -- simply too many conflicts of interest there. In other words, political positions (elected or appointed by an elected position) write the policy, but the career bureaucrats are the ones responsible for administering it.
We need less bureaucracy and ironically we might get it if we move it back to government. This quasi government setup is causing more.
Have you seen the size of NYC civil service, it's SO bloated it can't afford to downsize

I agree that whistleblowers are necessary - businesses are not capable of checking themselves, period.
On a related note, what happened to the Madison investigation?
Nobody wants to be a whistleblower when it largely ends in death or prison for said Whistleblower. Stuff going on with Boeing is a perfect example.

Edison motors is probably the best example of innovation still to be found in Canada
Unfortunately, regulators and business men being in bed together (or even the same person) is a tale old as time. It's not only morally wrong, but it holds back human progress so much. But actually "solving" it is such a complicated process that relies more on luck than anything else.
Glad to hear there might be a video in the works! Would also love to see Linus make another investment in a fix-friendly business!
I heard about it before and it's fucking disgusting but not surprising...
My country (sadly) has a widely used veterans health office which requires people to have a lawyer present during the approval hearing while they aren't needed for anything else in the process. So my friend had to pay 2k usd + about 10% of any benefit he received above 50% disability just for the lawyer to read his file for 15 minutes and then sit in the room with him and be silent for another 5 minutes.
Remember when GN blew the whistle on LTT? :)

Im in the USA and i was super into Bio Diesel when i was younger and the rules surrounding it were wild if you wanted to produce it and sell it i dont remember all the details But there was a similar thing if you wanted to get "certified" you had to pay 5000 dollars to a company EVERY YEAR and pay for all their expenses like lodging and food while they were going through the process which could take up to a month. The Government also had a stipulation that any product you sold could not be cheaper then the market price of actual Diesel by more than .30 cents. It was all designed to completely stop any such company from starting out as i just wanted to make the diesel on a small scale but the rules made it financially impossible. Im guessing these grants are not actually set up to help but to find people who are a threat and eliminate them or discourage them from continuing forward.

Not surprised about this at all. Welcome to capitalism. Greed fucks up everything when you allow companies to monopolize any thing involving money
Synthetic Fuel is the future not EV's
I wouldn't call this capitalism. It's more crony capitalism. Collusion of government and business to gain an unfair advantage in the free market.
This is corruption and the cure is transparency and accountability.
@@greengamerguy623 Nah, public transit is the real future. Anyways, the edison trucks are actually more closer to hybrids making them wayyy more efficient than normal trucks which is their main selling point rather than purely emmisions.
@@greengamerguy623they are for airplanes, but certainly not for cars. Firstly the production of synthetic fuels takes an enormous amount of energy that would be better spent to directly power cars. Efficiency of combustion engines is atrocious (~20%) vs EVs (80%). Secondly EVs produce about 78% less emissions over their life cycle compared to combustion cars. I disagree with wasting huge amounts of energy just to not fix the problem, which is greenhouse gas emissions.
Also, the ~50 production facilities for synthetic fuels that are currently in planning worldwide would provide about enough fuel to power 10% of Germany's personal vehicles. Those types of fuels will be relevant mainly for planes because there, battery weight is a big issue. If and only if production reaches a point where there is enough for aviation we can talk about things like cargo ships or industrials purposes, not cars.
This was corruption in a government program crossed with two companies. This is corruption is both company and government. That isn't capatalism. That's company and government corruption in tandem. That's worse than a company scraping the bottom of the barrel for money.

They're whistleblowers because they "blow the whistle" on corruption and such.
Yeah whistleblowers like Madison
I have a question for you, can you provide me some evidence that would suggest that her claims were actually real, instead of just some disgruntled employee making false claims on Twitter because their dream job didn't turn out to be as dreamy as they thought it would be? Among other things, if her accusations were real, there would have been a lawsuit going on by now and it would be public knowledge because that kind of a lawsuit is very hard to cover up unless both sides agree that it should absolutely be done in private.
"we need whistleblowers" is a real fucking funny title for a LMG video when you guys had a whistleblower that shared her experiences being sexually harassed that were silenced, with Linus first patronizing the community then releasing a dumbass video saying he doesn't know what's going on with the new CEO saying there's going to be an investigation with results that are shared with the public. Where are those findings? No one's talking about it any more? Oh so put the PR company away, give em a few hundred thousand dollars, and it's all good. I know this is likely going to be unheard, but I really hope at least one person from LMG sees this comment and considers the people they are working with. @EdisonMotors
Synthetic Fuel is the future not EV's
Edison motors does not make true EVs, they are making hybrids that are objectively superior to any other technology that I am aware of, and their trucks are specifically designed for logging where Plug-In hybrids have very unique advantages that no other technology can capture, in British Columbia pretty much all logging trucks have to go up a mountain to collect the logs and then go down the mountain to deliver them to a sawmill, and an EV can take advantage of the downhill with 100,000 lb of lumber to charge the battery and then use that charged battery to go back up the hill all whilst using basically zero fuel, and several other industries are finding that hybrid service trucks would be phenomenal because it would allow them to work past 10:00 p.m. or whenever noise ordinances in cities prevent you from making loud noises which would increase productivity. Please tell me how synthetic fuels will accomplish either of these tasks
Having infrastructure that doesn't focus on carss should be the future
Synthetic Fuel is the future not EV's
Look up the Edison. Can use synfuel or biodiesel.
