"Looks like a character out of Portal". Isn't one of the co op bots in that game actually called Atlas?
In the near future, boston dynamics bout to rename to aperture science
@@_sukuratchilemon stocks about to fall
damn never put it together lmao. they're called atlas and p-body and atlas is the tall one i think
@@orlagh277names are right, but swap them. Atlas is short/round/blue, and p-body is tall/oval/orange.
I wouldn't be surprised if they named it after the character from portal 2, but it could be a shared root meaning. Atlas was the titan depicted as holding the earth/heavens on his shoulders.
0:42 interesting how in Portal 2, one of the two "humanoid" robots IS called "Atlas" and is ball-like so he can move around very similar to the un-natural ways shown here.
I am starting to think Boston Dynamics is just Aperture Laboratories in disguise.
I bet they are gonna start funding lunar mining sometime soon for "no reason whatsoever".
Do they have a CEO like cave Johnson?
"The design is very human"
putting a battery in every limb is a crazy concept
Honestly genius, that way you can divert power to whichever task is needed. But.. in terms of if a fire occurs 😅
@@robeagleR I spoke to a mechanical engineer about it and they said there's not a lot of incentive to do it, maybe only as a way to use more real estate as power source or there might be a way to use them for a capacitor to provide extra power when doing a burst task like jumping or punching
Am sure the processor is not even in the head ....
@@wayando cursed
People mention I-Robot a lot. That movie takes place in 2035 so it is entirely possible the world will actually be like I-Robot by 2035
And that's pretty much 10yrs away! 🤯
I doubt the capacity of industry to reduce the price of robots like Atlas to be as cheap as the robots in the I-Robot movie by 2035.
@@WellBattle6 once they nail software you'll see cheap mass produced rbots, as with anything, the more you produce, the cheaper it gets
@@neon9165 Software is the least important thing for manufacturing robots. You can literally always make it. The hardware is the issue, silicon prices, battery prices and material prices are all bad and nobody wants to go figure it out.
@@WellBattle6 Once they mass manufacture them they become cheap just like everything else. Teslas optimus will be around 20k in a few years.
That moment in a movie when they think they destroyed the killer robot.
The bonus side effect of the "terrifying" thing Boston Dynamics videos do is that it helps mitigate situations where people trust the hardware and software more than they should. Keep people treating their products with the same sort of caution things like an industrial robot in a factory needs. Since if something bugs out there's a lot of mass and power that can be put behind a flailing robot limb.
I loved how their blooper reel showed a lot of the failures being due to blown hydraulic lines though... Guessing electric wasn't at where it is now
Thats why 1X robots are made to be light with inflatable parts like baymax
I know its a marketing trick to come across more "next-level" than they probably are, but I'm genuinely thankful, that the latest tech-developments like AI, drones, robots etc seem to count on this marketing technique instead of painting it in rosy colors. It might still work in attracting investors but at least it instills an appropriate caution in the general public (or at least the marginally interested general public)
@@JamesTK electric probably still isn't all there. It lacks the explosivity of hydraulics. I doubt the new Atlas can do backflips like the old one could. But maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.
I recall a BD engineer talking about how they needed to constantly shoo people away from Spot when doing demos because they wanted to come up close and pet it and stuff. This all despite being an industrial robot with no stops if you got too close and covered in pinch points that could break a finger in and not realize.
Oh no, Its the supervisor from Budget Cuts!
Oh fuck I didn’t think about that
I think its closer to V1/V2 from ultrakill (minus the wings)
Or Adam from HR
@brain_jar2993 yeah, that's Adam alright
FINALLY SOMEONE SAID IT!
In the basement Boston Dynamics probably has a full battle droid foundry. XD
They're really PAL from "Mitchell's vs the machines", if they ever release a smartphone ai app DONT DONWLOAD IT!!!
cant wait to have a domesticated V1 ultrakill
“Well, good luck humans” 😂
v1 ultrakill
But it's all bullshit and you aren't dying.
judgement
Prepare thyself
Weak
Creepy, I kinda hope for a new Atlas vs. old Atlas
A parkour race.
@@gorzonthechampion6784 Old Atlas would destroy it. Hydraulics have a lot of burst output. We'll have to see if the new Atlas can match.
A dance off
Reminded me instantly of the Security Robots from Thunderbirds '30 Minutes After Noon' - Paint it copper and you'd be basically there!
The recent surge of humanoid robotics companies and demos have been wild. BD, Figure, Sanctuary, Unitree, Apptronik, Fourier, 1X, and so many others. This whole field feels like it's on the cusp of a revolution, and as someone that's been following it since the earliest ASIMO and Petman demos, I couldn't be more excited!
That is straight up v1 from ultrakill
"the exorcist" moment
2:55 based luke allready getting tactical
Hyundai wants them to help increase production of their ev cars and stuff, they also saying it can basically replace amazon warehouse workers. I think Hyundai made a solid investment by purchasing Boston dynamics
Way better of a buyer than BD's old owners. Decades of automotive, industrial, and robotics experience compared to Google or Softbank.
"alright, well, good luck humans." - human
I hope they will redo the dancing stuff they did with the old atlas robot with the new one. It would be fun to see. I wonder if the new one can do break-dancing...
Yea I wanna see a comparison
linus closing comments: "good luck humans"
4:52 no, you need audio!
So, we are one step closer to Boston Dynamics creating a T-800.
The king is dead, long live the king!
Imagine 20 years from now, when LTT (with new hosts, as current ones will retire by then) posts videos reviewing the latest home android models.
it's full droid army territory
I recommend watching the video of another new robot named Astribot S1. I am even more amazed by the capabilities of that robot then the new Atlas.
Danger, Will Robinson!
The military: “that’s ours now”
He also sounds so much like Hal from 2001.
It would be awesome if Linus could go and see the new Atlas robot and tell us more about it
I'm waiting for Boston Dynamics to start making miniature versions of their bots to compete with Robosen and show them how it's done. There are batteries made from Aluminum Ion that is very complex but fast to charge and lasts for a very long time while being able to be any shape.
LTT needs an X-Ray machine that’s big enough to look inside of Atlas 2.0. I think everybody wants to see the internals :’)
so is that what my new electrician is going to look like?
I feel like search and rescue/recovery and stuff like that are probably the best place for something like this. It can navigate a building if there’s, say, a chemical leak but no damage to the structure, open doors and stuff, but also be able to contort in ways humans never could to crawl into tight spaces in a collapse or something.
Very glad they didn’t put a human face on it XD I don’t mind humanoid robots, but trying to make them LOOK human is creepy af.
I have to wonder how much battery the new Atlas has - is it enough for like 10-20 minutes of testing? Can it function for hours? We probably are still a ways away from something being that sleek and compact but able to operate all day
I immediately thought of the LOKI mechs from ME2. Also, while I know the way it stands up is supposed to be for the best center of mass distribution during the operation, but I still cannot get past how it looks so unnatural at first, but then halfway through it looks almost human.
Shit’s gonna go crazy when it learns to toss and punch coins
Linus, electric motorbikes can cross the 150 km barrier doing 180 km per hour. A human-shaped robot should have similar amount of storage capacity for batteries I would think.
Am I the only one who sees reference to the T-1000 Terminator, who flipped the body like this in the movie when he was pinned to a wall?
Boston dynamic creating skynet
Something about the movement of the robot with the apple makes it seem like CGI.
Lmao perfect editing at the end of the video
Eyeborgs movie becomes more and more realistic
People: "It's terrifying!"
The mechanical robot: *stumbles away like a goofy Pixar-character*
I seriously can't get with the whole "humanoid robots are creepy", at least not these. That one, forgot "her" name, that has a human face, sure, kinda creepy, but still not that bad. - It's just a robot and unless they actually implement weapons and targeting, I'm not that worried. - But even so, you realize that there are drones flying around that could just kill you in seconds, right?... Mechanical walking robots are probably less efficient.
i found you, the one not annoying crazy person.
Yeah, the recent industrial humanoids from places like BD, 1X, and Figure are all cool to me. The animatronics that try to give them hyperreal faces on the other hand are all deep in the uncanny valley.
Also agreed about the "Bro this is clearly only a military killbot and nothing else!!" sentiment being excessive. Genuinely feel like people are getting their outlook colored too much by Terminator.
Good luck, indeed, Humans...
6:01 lol
even though it is less bulky, its actually about twice as heavy.
It reminds me of... whats is he(it) called in english... Little helper, the robot that Gyro Gearloose in the DDU (Donald Duck Universe, maybe Disney definite Universe I dont know. )
Cool
AFTER SEEING THE ROBOT it reminded me of a qote form battlestar '' this has all happend b4 and it will all happen agin ''
‘Samus! I am the end and the death. I tell you now, I have seen this before, so many times.'
Going to be honest, It looks like the robots in robo-recall, A vr shooter.
Time to buy more green tip for the AR, brass solids for the shotgun, and black tip for the M1.
To be fair with the whole “masters of viral marketing” it’s a robot! It kind of sells it self 😅
Can we get a boxing match between atlas 1 and 2?
This is what happens when you don't fight back.
robot looks more like something from Binary Domain, rather than "Portal".
There's a lot of amazing progress with AI and robotics recently. But how affordable will it be for the average person? Or will it only be accessible to large companies and the rich?
I doubt it'll be kept artificially high. In the next decade or so, I imagine humanoids slowly proliferating through industrial spaces and approaching the price niche of a car.
F.E.A.R Fully Electric Atlas Robot
This is miles beyond whatever a Teslabot is trying to achieve. It could barely walk on it’s own, let alone stand up by itself in the current stage
Yea the Tesla bot needs a lot of work
the real question is can new Atlas do all those acrobatics without hydraulics?
4:45 Bro simply muted the video player for everyone listening
it shows as muted if there's no audio devices available too, doesn't mean he muted it
"a lot more years away from something this clean and compact" dude ASIMO came out almost 25 years ago.
You want to keep weight away from the limbs. Saves energy and eases coordination to have a simple and manageable center of gravity. This thing probably doesn't last long on a charge.
Blood is fuel
Have we learned if the vid is 1X speed?
Hot Take: Atlas is less scary than the average Taco Bell employee.
ULTRAKILL IS REAL
legit me
At least I'll be in awe when the robots destroy us. 🎉
It looks like a no man’s sky character
I've just realized this somehow reminds me of Tik-Tok from _Return to Oz._
Always thought they would move past hydraulics at some point. Never made sense to me.
Meanwhile Helldiver 2 Players POV:
THE BOTS ARW HERE!!!
Possessed pixar bot
The people who keep saying its a render are not VFX artists and you know it
Imagine this robot doing jiujitso hahahah I bet it don't have wires only wifi no wire conections
so what is stopping us from scaling this things up to 10 meters and having real life mechas?
Why would it's head need to turn. Figure it would have sensors on all sides
each senor adds more wiring and power needed and more complexity. It is probably better to have a fully array of sensors that can turn
could also ask why not
The video is a render, why is no one talking about this..
People freaking out over the robots are being silly. It’s AI you need to worry about, and once you have AGI, the robot part is trivial. Outside of that, this is just a fancy remote controlled toy that is less capable that a human being and runs out of energy after like 30 minutes.
Silent Hill-ass robot
Please buy one a put a lakers jersey on it
Budget cuts robot
how hard would it be to give it a gun and some ai face recognition tools. thats what im afraid of
creepiest sht I've ever seen anything do
Terminator soundtrack 👌
This is only impressive if it's being trained to be autonomous and not tele operated. So far we don't really know what their approach is for Atlas 2, but historically speaking BD tele operates all their bots.
Why they got to make it stand up like that 😂 they know what they doin
But seriously, enough with the chicken little mindset. This technology is cool as all hell!!!
This video shows nothing. We don't know if the battery only lasts like 5 minutes or so...
everyone thought that with AI too, that just means its too late lol
I dont get how anyone can watch this and not believe the extinction of humans will be at the hands of robots and AI
where is the like button 🤨🤔
LMG X Lockheed Martin collab when?
electronic motors are more efficient
Disappointed about the figure ending... I wanted Linus thoughts on the characters speech patterns and reasoning logic. Look at the title of the video... It's literally a video about speech
Biomimmics of the bone struture (exosqueleton) of insects help to opitimize energy saving moviments!!!
those cups and plates were plastic because if it tried it with glass, they would break. and performing logic is not impressive if it is optimized for just a handful of preconfigured scenarios. that was not general intelligence because that does not exist yet
Crazy how Luke didn't realize he had the video on mute, so Dan wouldn't have been able to help Even if he wanted.
Huge L from tech savvy gentlemen lmao
..It is absolutely infuriating that they didn't have the volume on for that Figure video.. There's almost no purpose in watching it without sound, it's like 50% of the point of the video!
